Kechara Tea House on Beautiful Popular Food
I have always encouraged people to become vegetarian. The reason is simple: I can’t bear to let animals suffer or to be killed just to suit our taste buds. There are many misconceptions about vegetarian food… “the food is bland, it’s all just tofu, there’s so much mock meat involved“… However, our very own Kechara Oasis (KO) proved us otherwise.
With two existing branches, Jaya One and Viva Home, they offer the finest vegetarian cuisine and have even won awards for it. KO has also recently become a “hit” for hosting wedding dinners… with bookings constantly back-to-back. I am very happy to see more and more people concerned about living a healthy lifestyle and in making the right choice.
Kechara now has another culinary achievement which also proves those who believe the misconceptions about vegetarian food wrong.
If you’ve read my recent blog post, we opened Kechara Tea House (KTH) in Shanghai mid last year. KTH is a contemporary cafe which offers vegan and vegetarian dishes… and creative tea beverages with a spiritual touch! Since the opening, I have heard a lot from my students about how delicious the food and drinks are… and I am not surprised! Phng Li Kheng and Christine Wang are the “brain child” behind the tea house and I know that they make sure that everything is up to perfection. They really want people to have the best.
One of China’s major TV programs called, “Beautiful Popular Food” did an show on Kechara Tea House. Hosted by Yang Zhi, she interviewed various customers who happened to be at KTH during the shoot. I have been told that the lasagna in Kechara Tea House is very good… and I can see why now. A few who were interviewed stated that they did not even realize that it was vegetarian! One of the men (who is a vegetarian), said that he had been looking for good vegetarian food in Shanghai and has finally came across one that made his day!
I am so happy that Kechara Tea House touches so many people. The good review from “Beautiful Popular Food” shows the effort, quality and care that Li Kheng and Christine have put into KTH. I congratulate all the Kecharians over in Shanghai who have worked tirelessly to make KTH a success.
Although the video is in Mandarin Chinese… everyone can enjoy the video!

Aunty Li Kheng has put a lot of hardwork into Kechara Tea House, the vegetarian cafe in Shanghai, to promote vegetarianism and all the hardwork is now being recognized. I rejoice.
I have been to KTH before when i went to shanghai. I had the vegetarian pasta. It was so good. I hope that Kechara Tea House will continue to grow and touch even more lives of people all around the worlds. And i think my auntie and Christine did an excellent job on getting KTH to grow. And hopefully in the future, it will help to make more people vegetarian. For the animals that are being hurt and killed for their meat. THIS HAS TO STOP.

I could just make out that one of the ladies being interviewed said that going vegetarian is good for one’s health and also the environment so happy to know that the Chinese urban folks are well aware of the benefits of eating vegetarian. Would love to go to KTS to try out their food : ). Good work KTH.
Congratulations Li Kheng and Christine! Your hard work will surely pay off.
Due to the hard work and effort Li kheng and Christine have put in, our first Kechara Tea House in Shanghai has manifested. As i can see they are not only promoting vegetarianism and healthy life to the public, they also have good motivation to promote Tsem Rinpoche’s teachings and visions to the people in China at the same time.
Haha, one of the person that being interviewed mentioned that he can’t live without meat for a single meal. He didn’t even notice that there is no meat in his meal. He just discovered it later after he had it but he is ok with it and commented it’s so nice. This is great!!!
Who said no meat you can’t survive? It’s just our perception and habituation.
No more torturing animal for our selfish attachment. They are so many vegetarian foods that able to replace our hunger and it’s good for health too.
Congratulation to Kechara Tea House for bringing vegetarianism another success in Shanghai.
Love animals and love yourself.
LiKheng and her team has put a lot of hardwork into Kechara Tea House, the vegetarian food in Shanghai, to promote vegetarianism and all the hardwork is now being recognized.
Please support vegetarianism and stand for less animal suffering!
KTH has bring us the new era of vegetarian food. Hopefully this can attract more people to become vegetarian. Great job, KTH.
What a good video and although I do not fully understand Mandarin, the satisfied faces in the show says it all. It is rare to find good vegetarian food in nice surroundings and Kechara has managed yet another. Such places makes it easier for meat eaters to go vegetarian even if it is for a meal.
Congratulations to Li Kheng and Christine! It is really such a cool thing you have done. I hope to see lots of KTH franchise outlets coming up all over China.
