Life on Wheels
Dear friends,
People who do kind work for others are timeless and we never tire of reading about them. They add humanity and compassion into our world and give us hope and inspire us to know we can be more. I want to share this story with you and I request you share with others. Kindness and acts of kindness should go viral.
I recently found out about this kind, young Malaysian man who makes wheelchairs for paralyzed dogs. He realized that it was not possible for people to buy dog wheelchairs in Malaysia, and that the only way to get one was to order them online. Those would usually cost around RM1,000… not an expenditure most people could afford, so he decided to take matters into his own hands…
Danny Goh Teck Chuan is a 29 year old businessman who runs a drapery business. He made his first doggie wheelchair when he started rescuing dogs a year ago. He says that each wheelchair or walker costs him about RM15 to RM20. I am deeply touched to see this Malaysian hero, come up with such creative ideas so that paralyzed or disabled dogs can walk again. For each individual dog (and sometimes cats!), he will take their respective measurements and custom make a wheelchair out of PVC pipes!! He does so without even expecting anything in return… How kind…
The beauty of this young man is that he is not out to make money from producing wheelchairs, but he makes it sincerely with the only motivation to benefit the dog.
Would you have gone this far to care for a paralyzed dog? Would you have stopped for a moment to think about how to help these dogs regain their confidence by walking again? When I got to know about Danny, I immediately thought that I must blog about this kind man so that everyone can see how sincere some people are towards animals.
Do read the two articles below where Danny was featured in The Star newspaper… I am very glad that the Malaysian press picked up on his good work. Please leave your comments below to encourage and show your support to this young man for his effort!
Please do visit Danny and give him your support. Heroes like this must be known so it will inspire many more to do good for the general society.
Do you have a message for Danny please…leave it below and I hope he will read it soon.
Thank you Danny for being a compassionate, kind and caring human being.

Lucky being fitted with the wheelchair
6 November 2012
PETALING JAYA: Businessman Danny Goh Teck Chuan’s heart broke when he came across a few paralysed dogs after he started rescuing animals about a year ago.
Getting help for these dogs was hard, he said.
For instance, wheelchairs and walkers for the paralysed dogs had to be ordered from abroad.
The contraptions were also expensive, easily costing RM1,000 each.
So, he decided to design his own wheelchairs and walkers for dogs based on patterns obtained from the Internet but unlike the ones there, which used aluminium, Goh decided to use polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipes.
He also uses simple materials to fix wheels and stretchable material obtained from his shop to make the wheelchairs.
Goh, 29, who owns and runs a drapery business, said each wheelchair or walker cost him about RM15 to RM20.
So far he has made four wheelchairs and a walker for dogs that suffer from spinal cord injury and charges nothing for his creations.
“I’m willing to provide wheelchairs and walkers to anyone with dogs and cats that cannot walk,” he said
One of the dogs Goh built a wheelchair for is a one-year-old male named Lucky that suffers from spinal cord injury as well as severe nerve damage to one of its back limbs.
It was difficult to fit Lucky with wheels as the dog was unresponsive and uncooperative.
“Lucky barks at his back legs as if he hates them. He is a very unhappy dog and we hope this will change once he learns how to move around with the wheels,” said his rescuer and fosterer Leslie Chan.
Lucky and his siblings were rescued from Cyberjaya earlier this year. It is believed Lucky might have hurt himself crawling in the drainage system.
Goh can be contacted through Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better’s Facebook page.

Paw-wheel drive: Goh fitting Ng’s dog KC into its new ‘walker’ in Penang.
28 December 2012
GEORGE TOWN: Administrative clerk Rainee Goh’s face lit up the moment she saw her dog Yang Yang standing on its own legs again.
The seven-year-old dog had lost its left hind leg in a road accident last week.
Thanks to the ingenuity of drapery business owner Danny Goh Teck Chuan, the dog is able to walk on all “fours” again with a custom-made wheelchair designed and assembled from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipes, wheels and thick cloth.
Rainee, 32, was close to tears when Yang Yang tried out the new contraption with Teck Chuan’s help at the carpark in New World Park here.
“I am very happy to see Yang Yang up on all four legs again.
“I work in Petaling Jaya and flew in to meet Danny (Teck Chuan) for this.
“I am glad everything went well,” she said, adding that Yang Yang stays with her family in Island Glades.
Teck Chuan, 29, is well-known for his custom-made wheelchairs and walkers for paralysed and disabled dogs and cats. He designs them based on patterns obtained from the Internet.
Teck Chuan uses affordable materials for his creation.
“My wheelchair or walker only cost between RM15 and RM20 but the devices made overseas cost a bomb,” he said.
Teck Chuan came all the way from Kepong, Kuala Lumpur to make five wheelchairs and walkers for four dogs and a cat during the two-hour session organised by Save Our Strays (SOS) Penang.
Another dog owner S.H. Ng, 59, said she hoped the walker would help her dog KC, which fractured its hind pelvic bones in an accident a month ago.
“I am giving it a try. Hopefully this improvisation can help my dog,” she said.
SOS Penang spokesman April Sham said with the wheelchairs and walkers, pet owners and animal rescuers do not need to consider euthanasia when dealing with disabled animals.
For more details on the wheelchairs and walkers, contact Ellen 016-4021781 or visit SOS’s Facebook Save Our Strays (SOS) Penang.

Inspiring businessman Danny Goh Teck Chuan, how he has helped paralysed dogs and even cats to able to walk freely again with his invention of wheelchairs and walkers. For wheelchairs and walkers for the paralysed dogs had to be ordered from abroad and is expensive. He is heartbroken looking at injured or paralysed dogs not able to walk again. He decided to invent his own wheelchairs and walkers for dogs from the Internet, using polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipes and so on. So kind of him, he has since helped dogs and cats to walk again. Happy that his good work of coming up with this wheelchair and walker been appreciated by many. Even got the attention from local newspapers and pet lovers magazine.
Thank you Rinpoche for this wonderful sharing.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing such a beautiful and inspiring article.Mr Danny is another good example to all of us.He is so kind and compassionate to help those disabled dogs and cats. Many of them was able to walk again with walker specially designed by him.
i love dogs, and i am happy that this guy is helping them. these dogs are hurt and disabled, and he wants to do something about that which is really good. i am happy that these dogs are more mobile now, thank you for sharing Rinpoche
With simple material and customised design according to needs, Danny helps many dogs and cats to have their second life, mobile life even after they lost their leg/s. Behind the wheelchair is the heart and wishes to help and empathy those who lost their mobility, including animals. Thank you Danny.
Mr.Danny Goh actions proves that there is still love and kindness in our society for the forgotten one. Danny is such an inspiration to many others out there, including myself.
Danny proves that if we are motivated by kindness and compassion to others, no matter the obstacles, we will find a way if we truly want to help others, and this is shown in his action by using PVC pipe and making it into a wonderful creation of doggy wheelchair for the disable puppies. Such determination and kindness from him.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing such a inspiring article. 🙂
It doesn’t take much at all to make a HUGE difference in another being’s life as proven by Danny. All it takes is a big heart which doesn’t cost anything much at all. It makes me very happy to know there are people like Danny in Malaysia and there should be many more. Start by doing our part in our own neighborhoods.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this.
There are so many dogs or cats that are paralyzed and abandoned by their owners. However, Danny is so kind hearted that he cares so much for the animals to the extend to look for ways to makes them wheelchairs so that they can ‘walk’ again. Thank you Danny, you are truly inspiring and set as an example for all of us to follow.
Human are given the power not for us to kill animal or abuse animal, but it is for us to help the disabled… Many animals suffers today due to our selfishness and ignorant, we never bother to care about their feelings, what we care most is our own feeling only, that is only me… and always me, me, me…
You don’t need to grow older to have compassion, compassion does not come with age. Danny Goh is young and yet, he is heart is filled with compassion and passion enough to carry out his sympathy. He never claimed that it is too troublesm or material are too expensive to give up, in fact, he find other ways to get more affordable way to help the animals, he managed to reduce the cost from RM1k to RM15, what more is impossible?
Thanks Danny for your constant care and effort, now the dogs and cats are seeing lights in their life, you painted their life with colours again.
When someone who is kind and only think of benefiting others, they will come our with ideas to help the needy. In this case, Danny’s heart is with disabled animals. He is so kind that he will go all the way to Penang to help 5 dogs.
The materials he used are all so affordable that many many animals will be happier. After all, they are also living beings who have feelings.
how kind, please let Danny live long so he can help dogs for a long time. this is a man that takes matters in his own hands and that is a very good feature of a person in a matter like this. yay! Thank you Danny.
This is so nice of people to do for dogs and cats, i wish that all animals out there that were paralized would be saved and that they would be taken care of good and given lots of love. This is cool how this man could not afford to buy things for the dogs online, but he did not stop there, he still put in so much effort onto researching and making his own things do that the dogs could recover and be ably to move again. This is so touching, how this man did not have enough money but he still did these kind thing to these animals. So cool. Thank you for sharing Rinpoche, i had a good time reading how people help animals around the world.
How kind for Mr.Danny design such the helpful tool for animal has already paralyzed. His care and compassion toward help out animal without making any profit make me more respect his compassion act. i ready hope more people like Mr. Danny can think like him and keep saving animal life.
Mr Danny Goh, your love and compassion for the animals especially the paralyzed dogs and cats is so incredible, many people will be inspired by your good work and effort and will put in effort to provide help for the helpless animals one way or another, thank you.
Thank you for the sharing Rinpoche. Words could not describe his compassion and generosity toward those pets, he have helped directly or indirectly through his ingenuity. Most of us will just sympathise with the poor animal but would not take ownership of the situation to change it.Mr Danny showed his sincerity and made it happened.
Thank you Danny for being the light of hope in the dark! Your great kindness and great deed is definitely worth being acknowledged and praised for! You are the hero for all these poor animals and they do deserve to live their lives to the fullest even though their are paralyzed! You are an inspiration and have set such a wonderful example for all! Please continue with your great work and we wish to see you soon! If you have noticed, whatever I have to say about you has to end with exclamation mark!!!
The passionate love for animals can really spur a person to design and create ingenious ways and methods to provide for a quality life for animals.
In Danny’s case, he provides his services and contraptions for free. I admire your compassionate deeds, Danny.
So many furry friends have benefited from Danny’s kindness. What a huge difference this has made to the lives of all those animals that he had helped. His creativity and compassion has gone a long way to change the lives of the animals.
Danny Goh is very caring and compassionate. It really make a huge difference in the lives of these dogs and cats who were not able to walk or couldn’t walk properly. They couldn’t express it but we can appreciate the gratitude these dogs and cats will have for Danny! Thank You Danny. Keep up the good work!
Danny’s story will inspire many, thank you for sharing this Rinpoche. His kindness and amazing creation that make wheelchairs for disabled animals really help a lot of the animals. He has given dog or cat a another chance to walk and run again. 🙂
Danny is such a good-hearted person. His care to the dogs is completely unconditional, it is purely out of his compassion for these helpless creatures. While there are many who abuse animals, there are also kind hearted people like Danny. Keep up with the good job!
Thank you Rinpoche for this wonderful post! I believe many people out there are facing the same problem. They have pets who are paralysed and they unable to afford to buy wheelchairs and walkers for their pets. This is such a good news to them.
Danny uses his creativity and passion and they translated into action to help. He is very very kind to do all this. This does not make him earn to be wealthy, this is pure kindness. What Danny does gives hope to the dogs/pets and the owner, especially those who are not rich. This indirectly encourage people to save/take care stray dogs as it doesn’t cost much to take care injured dogs/cats.
Thank you Mr.Danny Goh!
It takes someone like Danny to be able to empathize with the poor dogs and cats, with spinal chord and similar problems, who are immobile and in deep pain and suffering. It was his great love and compassion that moved this rare being to do something about it. And so he did. He created wheel chairs for them out of inexpensive PVC material, so that owners of animals who need these wheel chairs would have easy access to them.
Since these wheel chairs are customized and have to be individually built, it will be great if more people learn how to make them so that the supply of these wheel-chairs would always meet the demand.
Thank you Danny. May there be more like you.
Thank you Danny for your kind and caring ways towards the dogs and cats. You went the extra mile to help them and this has given new hope to the disabled animals and their owners. And you generously offer to sponsor some of these walkers too.
By putting on our thinking cap and with compassion towards other suffering beings, many things can be achieved. In time, we hope that walkers for other 4-legged animals can be designed and assembled also.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing the articles and photos on Danny Goh and his compassion to animals.
Thank you Danny for having a heart of gold!!It is so rare to find such kind hearted people nowadays. Your ingenious creations have not only provided a new lease of life to these poor paralyzed animals, it has also given the owners of these pets such happiness. For you to take time and effort to make these customized wheelchairs for the doggies and cats, shows how kind and compassionate you are.
As an ardent animal lover, i can fully feel the distress and sufferings that these poor animals have to go through when they become immobilized. There are owners who could not either bear the sufferings of their injured pet, or just couldn’t be bothered, would have just put the poor pet to sleep.
Due to your kindness, so many lives of these pets will be saved. Thank you so much, Danny, for giving these animals a good quality and new lease of life.
Thanks Rinpoche for sharing such a wonderful and touching article. I am so proud and respect with what Danny is doing to the animals. He is such a good hearted person and I wish happiness always be with him..
Regards,
venix
Really touching when see the dog can stand and walk again with wheelchair . Mr Danny put a lot of love and care to help this dogs and cats . Without others financial support, just use simple and low cost material to make a wheelchair to help them stand again . Thank you Rinpoche sharing this touching story.
Dear Danny, thank you for being such a compassionate soul by doing these acts. The pets can’t even say thank you yet you’re doing this without expecting anything in return.. You’re an inspiration to us all!!! Keep up the good work! =)
Thank you for sharing,Rinpoche!
Danny Goh Teck Chuan is really kind and what he did to help out the animals inspired me very much. Getting help for these animals is not an easy job. His kindness and his amazing creation that make wheelchairs for disabled animals really help a lot of the animals. Thank you for Rinpoche for sharing this heart-touching story with us.
Danny has a strong sense of compassion but instead of just feeling sorry for the poor animals, he was motivated enough to follow through and have not stopped helping paralyzed dogs and cats. It is the extra mile we go to that often makes all the difference.
I doesn’t that much to know that being mobile with the help of Danny’s walkers, these animals enjoy a different quality of life and one where they are not so helpless. This itself is something to celebrate and can only come from someone who has deep empathy for all beings.
Danny is indeed very inspiring and we can all learn a lot from him and his efforts. To hear that people travel to seek his help is amazing both on the part of the animal owner and Danny’s fame. Also incredible is that fact that he doesn’t do all this for commercial reasons but out of his kindness. That makes this story especially beautiful.
I am so happy to read of what Danny Goh is doing. It is not common to find people like him, who will go the extra mile for animals. He provides a much needed service at minimal cost and the result is huge – the alleviation of suffering for animals who would otherwise have no other options. So many people don’t care about animals because they see them as inferior to humans but they are all sentient beings. In fact, we should be kinder to animals because they cannot help themselves. I hope KAS will manifest soon – but it will only manifest if people support with funds and effort. Everything good is a result of someone doing something. Without action, Danny Goh’s wheelchairs would not have manifested. Rinpoche says that if we want to have results, we must put thoughts into action.
I think this is great news for the awareness of animal welfare in Malaysia and I do think it is unusual for a young man to have such care especially in today’s world of materialism and self-absorption. I must say that he is inspirational and very caring towards beings that basically cannot say thank you.
I would say that this is a good milestone for the awareness of animals in our society today. Hopefully, this would have a domino-effect on other Malaysians to have greater care towards animals. Todays is world of Internet awareness and small victories like this could be highly influential towards shaping society’s awareness of such issues.
Such a kind person… Very rare quality to find in people in these materialistic world nowadays. He not only think how to benefit these paralyzed dogs, but even come up with a plan and carry it through! This shows how dedicated he is in helping all these animals, and on top of that, he’s not looking for profit or fame.
From what I heard, for every single dog he helps, Danny will have to work on these dog on a case to case basis, because they all have different sizes. So he will have to take measurements, and create these custom made wheelchairs for the paralyzed dogs. He also take into consideration that many people may not afford very expensive materials and therefore even come up with a solution to use pvc pipes as they are cheap, and yet serve the purpose. Only people with great passion can think in multiple angles to make things work.
He truly is a hero for our Malaysian dogs, and for the owners that never gave up on their paralyzed dogs.
Danny, thank you for what you are doing and for relieving the pain of so many animals (and their owners, for whom it must be totally distressing to see their beloved pets in this way).
The first time I had met a paraplegic dog was in a center in Nepal, where they don’t have any resources like what you are providing. She was a beautiful, lively, stalwart little street dog who had become the mascot of that animal rescue center in Kathmandu, who would drag herself around on her bottom. But the next time I saw her, she had become much older and it was becoming very difficult for her, such that her bottom become increasingly scraped and sore. I was just a visitor to that center and already my heart broke to see her condition worsening as she aged; I can’t imagine how much more painful it would be for someone who owned a dog like this.
So this isn’t just about creating wheelchairs, but about giving dogs a whole new lease of life, relieving so much pain for them and allowing them to gain back their confidence and strength Thank you Danny. And may there be many more people like you.
I’m also heartened to see that people are willing to invest time and money into finding solutions to help their dogs and that more and more Malaysians are caring for their pets’ welfare. This marks some improvement, from a time when people may well have just put their animals to sleep for something like this, or worse, put them out on the street. Malaysia may still have quite a long way to go in terms of understanding animal welfare better, but with people like Danny and more responsible pet owners, I do believe there is hope 🙂

Wow so many dogs and cats have benefitted from the affordable, practical creation of Danny. It is so heartwarming to see Danny took the initiative to come up with walkers and wheelchairs to help these animals.
Thank you, Danny, for being such an inspiration and thank you, Rinpoche, for sharing this.
he is using his creative in a meaningful way.Even though I have be a vegetarian for a long time ago,I still feel that I am not compassionate enough like him.Our social neeed more peoples like him, then maybe one day world peace will achieved!I want to become a monk in future is because inspire from Buddha’s teaching.Like Rinpoche always said “serving others bring great happiness, serving myself only bring suffering.”when I finished reading this wonderful article,I feel that it is time for me to check myself on New year eve.I must be a monk that only serve public in anyways I can in future.I am happy will be at Haven soon. How fortunate I am to be able to be the servant of virtuous friend, learning from Rinpoche and to develop good heart and good deeds.Thank you!
Danny surely has creativity on top of his compassion towards animals. At such a young age Danny has already got involved with saving the lives of dogs and cats that are abandoned and hurt.
It is really a suffering if we put ourselves in their shoes. As a simple example, on rainy days these animals have no roof over their heads, and from time to time they have to be aware of those foreign people and animals. Meals come to them inconsistenly, and they have to eat scraps. If on top of all these, they lose their mobility due to whatever reasons, that will really be a very sad case for them. If left in the open, mostly they will not survive and in many cases they need to be euthanized as most people usually lose hope in disabled animals.
Danny is truly very kind, for he asks for nothing in return. His compassion for those suffered are priceless.
awww thats so kind x
WOW… This really touches me to the core. Our eldest dog Nanu has a nerve problem in her spine. She loss the use of her left hind leg a month ago and is now cushion bound and needs to be helped to ease herself.
What Danny Goh Teck Chuan has done is amazing and I will be contacting him to get Nanu her very own wheelchair. We need to give her back some dignity and mobility till the end of her natural life.
Thank you Danny for being such an inspiration and for helping those who cannot ask for themselves
Mr.Danny is so kind that he uses his own money to built wheelchairs for dogs and cats, because there is many dogs and cats that can’t walk in four legs and besides he is using his own money. Is good to have pupils like Danny who loves and cares lot about animals in this world. I myself love animals very much, I would never want to see animals getting hurt and become stray dogs. If I have the power to control everything, I will use my power to bring peace to all setient beings. Thank you for reading
Wow!!! I am just so happy and shocked at the same time because there are such people in Malaysia that cares so much about animals that he even kindly made these wheelchairs for injured dogs and cats.
I am just so touched by his act of kindness to let injured animals have a second chance. My heart is so warm to learn that not everyone in the world has a cruel heart.
It is just so cute to see these pets move around in their wheelchairs. I was surprised that it could also be used as a bed!
May the people that have given the animals a second chance to walk and have fun!
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this touching article!
Love

It is very rare to hear people in Malaysia doing good deeds for animals, especially dogs. It is indeed a happy occasion and I hope to see more people caring for animals. Seeing so many dogs benefitted from this wheel chair or walker is really heart warming. It is even more meaningful that Danny is also featured in pet magazine.
I do hope someone who has design knowledge can help to make something that can be easily customised for different animal size 🙂
Please help to blog or share about this so that people know more about Danny’s good work!!
Danny is such a smart, kind and talented young man! He did it for the love of the dogs and cats. Yes Rinpoche, I agree, he is a hero! It is true. How many of us would actually stop and help injured animals? Danny is really doing something beneficial for the animals.
The dogs and cat look so cute with the wheelchair. Its sad to know the that owners and vets consider euthanasia. Now with this cost effective wheelchair, it will be much convenient for the owners and animals.
This is really amazing! I really rejoice that people would go so far as to make wheelchairs for disabled animals. This man must really be a Bodhisattva in disguise. Normally, people would just abandon the animals if they were incapable of being the “companion” that they wish for. Those kinds of people are scum (I am saying this as a person who hates insulting people). People should take this man as an example and show more love and care to animals.
Mr Danny really inspiring me a lot, we should help out all the animals, hope KAS will manifest, and i want to give a hand to all the animals. Sincerely to pray for KAS project to manifest and without any obstacles to build. Poor animals won’t suffer much. 🙂
Thank You for sharing this Rinpoche.
( What Mr Danny did, it’s really touched my heart deeply )
Best Regards : Erickksiow
Danny is truly an inspiring young man. It broke his heart to see the suffering of a pet unable to be mobile. He just went ahead to help these poor helpless pets without anyone telling him to do so out of compassion for them. Such a selfless man who is hard hard to find in this modern day and age.
At 29 years old, he could have chosen to live life according to his pleasures but he did the opposite. He went out on his own initiative to help, do research, bought the alternative materials needed, spent time and effort re-designing these mobile help units to help pets. This story inspires me, dear Rinpoche. Thank you for sharing a lovely heart-touching story with us.
Danny is a shining example of compassion in action. What an inspiration to other young people. Thank you, Danny for making it possible to help those animals that others would consider putting down because of their disability.
Oh my gawd… so kind of Danny to do something for the poor mumus who cannot walk and cannot ask for help! And he is only 29 years old! Yes I am inspired and impressed to know young people with a kind do exist and in our very country.
Danny could be drinking and partying and self-indulging like most of us did or is doing still at that age but instead he felt not only sorry for the poor doggies, he decided to do something about it without expecting anything back in return. I am sure when he was doing this, he did not even think he would be featured in the news. I hope Danny gets support for his creative initiation and at least now we know there is always hope for these poor mumus who cannot walk.
Thank you Danny for your kindness!
how kind people i realy like animal care taker people.thank you rinpoche for shering.
