Octopus Eats A Shark
Whenever we think about the octopus, we don’t feel very threatened. We are fascinated by how exotic they are… by their flexibility and their intelligence. If we see them swimming in the ocean, we would probably watch from a distance.
Whenever we think about a shark, our first reaction is usually fear. We fear for our lives…we fear for ourselves. We may be fascinated but we feel sheer fear. If we were to see them swimming in the ocean, we would watch from a distance BUT unlike looking at an octopus, we fear that the shark may find and attack us.
Can an soft spineless octopus really kill an aggressive shark?

So powerful, octopus could actually attacked and eat an aggressive shark. One that might surprise us is such an soft spineless octopus could be killed shark. The incredible footage as shown in the video that a octopus successfully attacking and killing an unsuspecting spiny dogfish shark. The octopus use their strength to overpower the shark…amazingly where we do not expected it. Never judge anything by the look or size till the end result. In nature, nothing is perfect and everything is perfect.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.
Bigger sea animals are not as powerful as what we predict after all. Could you imagined a octopus eats a shark. Well it happens. Never underestimate smaller animals or something small. They are more powerful and fierce too. Amazing …seeing how , the octopus attacked and killed the shark just a moment. So powerful. If I did not watched this video ,i never had thought that octopus could actually eat a shark.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing . Anything is possible if we think positive and think what we can do it.
It’s a holocaust ….killing millions of dogs. Such a horrible scene looking at the pictures of those dead bodies of our dear friend. Could not have imagine there is a death squad roaming in the streets of Baghdad, hunting for dogs either shooting them or poisoned them. To those team culling stray dogs was a nightly routine for them as they expect to get the number down. The huge number of dogs in the capital that has cause a nuisance ,health problems and unhealthy environment .
They are in an attempt to wipe out the estimated one million stray dogs that roam the capital. That’s the reason given but really feeling sad for the lives of stray dogs in war-ravaged Baghdad. Hope the authority concerned can do some thing to help those strayed dogs instead killing them. May those killed had a good rebirth.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing the video footage. The power of nature, never under estimate the creatures living in deep sea 🙂 They could be small in size, but powerful by nature. I always love mother nature. When we see one thing is big (animals and plants), there’re actually bigger and more powerful animals or plants than the other. Most of the time, even small size creatures like frog and spider, it has their own natural born power or ability to survive in the wild. And, out of surprise, they may be able to eat other animals which are double of their size. This is really amazing. _/\_
There’s a lot of things that are unpredictable and sometimes it gets out of control. Our earth is a very beautiful thing, it gives us a lot of surprises that will just blow our minds away. I’m pretty sure that most of us here wouldn’t have imagined an octopus eating a shark but this I think that our nature will always finds it’s balance.
Dear Rinpoche, I’m not really surprised about it because there are even squids that are able to kill whales which are called Colossal Squid. I heard that the biggest Colossal Squid size is about 55ft and that is huge. It is almost about a 5 story a building. It would be very cool if Krakens were real (maybe it is real) but many ships would have been sink by the Krakens.
For the 21st century, anything is possible, the world we are living in right now has changed a lot after so many centuries. We’ll never know what the world has to offer, this is my second time watching the video but it still is very shocking to me because octopuses are so much more fragile than sharks and its rare to see them eating sharks…
Dear Rinpoche, I didn’t expect the octopus this small could kill a shark and swallow it whole without stopping for a moment. I know that octopus can devour sharks it is just that I didn’t expect the octopus to be this small. I used to think that octopus are bigger than squid until I found out about Giant Squids. Giant squids can grow up to 50ft to 60ft. Now that is scary. What will make it more scary is when scientists found out that Kraken is not a myth or some old stories.
It is a very interesting video. Octopi are like how people should be. Octopi adapt to whatever surroundings. An analogy applicable to the video would be that we are like the octopus and the shark is samsara and we consume and stop it.
Wow, i never knew that an octopus could be so fierce and eat a shark. I always taught that this animals was a gentle animals, but after seeing this video, it has really changed my look of view towards octopuses. I still think they are cool and all, but im just saying i never thought that it could actually eat a shark, And i really enjoyed watching this video, i found it pretty interesting.
Isn’t this like human? we all the same, for those people who looks dangerous, from far, their appearance already told you they are dangerous, so we know how to avoid them. But for those who treat you well, who always smiles, you will never know what’s on their mind.
They can be your best friend, but when situation arises, they might be the first one who run and stab your back before running away.
I think this is what it means by not judging a book by it’s cover. Things may not end up like how we expected it to be.
There are a lot of things out there awaiting to be explored. Our mother earth is just simply wonderful..
Thank You for sharing Rinpoche.

It is quite amazing that something that seems to be so soft on the outside could actually very cruel on the inside. Same goes for a lot of people in life. Some people look like really nice people but they are actually going to go and kill you. That is how children are tricked by pedophiles. Thus, some people are like the shark, they look like they are threatening but they are actually really gentle and they get taken advantage of.
well, different viewpoint here… to me the octopus looked sinister and scary and the shark looked kinda cute….
I fully agree with those who have commented on this blog that appearance can be deceiving. The Shark can be a killer and looks fierce. Whereas the Octopus looks soft and harmless. If you look more into the video and study the sharks body and the Octopus body you may end up with a different view and conclusion. And to me the shark has a smooth and straight body which he cannot use to attack or grab at his opponent except to attack with his mouth. And the Octopus is soft and boneless but with 8 tentacles with suckers that can attack and hold on to objects easily during an attack. Thats the reason why the Octopus can eat a Shark.
Outer appearance is what we impute upon them. What seem to be harmless when given a necessary condition can do shocking opposite action. But when our mental state is trained to be always on the wholesome side, when the condition arises it could also bring huge result that benefit other and oneself. The shark must have thought that octopus is only food that it can eat at any given time and didn’t think that the reverse could happen. The same goes when we let ours alertness down and constantly involved in unwholesome actions because we don’t think that one day the result could ripen upon us.
Looks are so deceiving. Never knew that a soft spineless octopus can be so deadly.
We always think that sharks are aggressive but on the contrary they are not. They may look huge and ever ready to attack, yet they are always caught for their fins to end up in the kitchen as sharks fin soup
Guess we shouldn’t assume that those who look fierce are dangerous and those who look soft are nice :p
Erm…it’s hard to comment on a video when all your brain does is utter thoughts of, “Huh…would you look at tha…no…seriously? Oh my God – that just can’t be…hmm, I guess it can…poor shark.”
That’s about all the analysis I could come up with. It’s an interesting video. I’ll bet the Octopus is one of those annoying ones that tells its friends: “I am mostly vegetarian – I only eat fish.”
Kind regards,
Sandy
