This video shows a piglet and a tiger cub in captivity, playing and enjoying each other’s company. You would think that such a scene would only be seen in cartoons – for entertainment and to paint a picture of a perfect world for our children. After all, tigers (predator) and pigs (prey) don’t get along. If they did, it would be unnatural.
This would never happen in the wild, but if such behavior is completely unnatural, then we should not be able to cultivate it even in captivity. However, after watching the video, it seems that behaviour is a learnt and habituated process. Behaviour can be changed, for the better. And animals can show us what it means to get along. What a beautiful sight it is to see them playing together!
It’s time to think and realise that deep down, we all can and should get along. Looking back at our lives, how many things have we rejected thinking they are not the norm? How many people have we rejected in life because they didn’t match up to our expectations? There is more to life than how things appear to be.
So, how do you feel after watching this video?

It is funny how animals can be friends even though they are separate species while humans are unable to cooperate with people of different race or even gender. Tigers and Pigs are supposed to have a prey-predator thing going on but they go against the odds. I really enjoyed watching the video….they are so cute!!!😍….Thank you Rinpoche and blog team for this lovely sharing😍😘
What a beautiful sight with 2 different species a piglet and a tiger cub, hugging, playing and enjoying each other together. No one would imagine that yet they did having a good time . Very unusual to see such a case and that behaviour is a learnt and habituated process.
We can change our behaviour for the better. I do enjoyed watching the video…..so cute both of them.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing,
Dear Rinpoche, I have seen animal relationships something like this before. About 7 years ago, when I went to Bangkok’s Zoo for the first time with my family, they had piglets and tiger cubs switched places, which mean the mother tiger was taking care of the piglets and the mother pig was of the tiger cubs. I was really shocked when I saw that. I don’t understand how did it work out between the mother tiger and the piglets? To me, the zoo keeper might put something like a perfume that smells like the tiger and of course they have to put clothes on the piglets as well.
Haha the video is so cute! The piglet can just fall asleep in seconds, I love the part where the baby tiger yawns, so cute so innocent. This video really proves that friendship has no barriers, no matter who or what you are, you can always make friends if you just treat your friends with your heart.
Dear Rinpoche, I think if they try to train the carnivores to become vegetarian by letting them eat vegetarian food since when they are young then maybe it might work but the thing is, if the whole world’s animal becomes vegetarian then the plants will decrease faster. But I do wish that there is a place where all sentient beings won’t harm each other and live like this forever.
Every living being is part of one living planet. It is funny how animals can be friends even though theiy are separate species while humans are unable to cooperate with people of different race or even gender. Tigers and Pigs are supposed to have a prey-predator thing going on but they go against the odds.
What about humans? We are meant be mutualistic in attitude, benefiting each other, we are not meant to be parasitic to our own race. It would be foolish to do that and that will lead to our extinction.
We always see how two different animals get along very well with each other when they are young like babies. And my father used to tell me that people usually put them(two different animals)together to cultivate the closeness. Everything starts since young. And I remember Rinpoche always say when we are young, our mind is clearer, less ‘polluted’.
When we are young, our mind is like a new sponge that absorbs things very well. Even this tiger and pig can become friend and ‘break’ the food chain in the wild. It is very encouraging that animals too can unlearn and relearn. Therefore we must grab the chance when our kids are still young and teach. For adults, we should bear in mind we can always change, unlearn and relearn since nothing is permanence.
see this is an example that we can all get along no matter our species it could be a shark and a seal you will never know but this is a truly beautiful sight. i hope these two will have a good life and always stay friends.
This is so cool! I never thought that a pig and a tiger could be best friends. Thats amazing, their not even the same type of animal. I find that cool. More people should be like this towards all animals. People should treat them with love and care, just like this. Not kill them for their meat and trap them for zoo’s.
Loves this video. First thought which came to mind is, “let’s proof our own demons wrong”
Just like how this tiger did not act on its instinct to kill,…why can’t we, endowed with so much more potential NOT give in to our negative habits.
OMB! They look so cute together. I guess they have a Karmic connection in pasts lives as even in this form, the tiger would be friends with his food.
Go beyond concepts and open myself for the impossibilities.
We all belong to friends of the Earth. There should not be a discriminating mind. Habituation can be overcome if we work towards the direction we want to achieve. How beautiful this is …. then our destination, our goal, peace and happiness are all achievable.
