Special Pig
Recently, I was sent this forwarded email of a very special pig. The pig is a two-legged pig called Zhu Jianqiang (朱堅強), meaning “Strong-willed Pig” in Mandarin Chinese! As the only pig out of the 9 piglets born, Zhu Jianqiang was the only one born with only 2 front legs.
Now at 10 months old, the wife of the owner (Wang Xihai) advised her husband to kill the pig… but he refused saying that he deserved a chance to live, especially since Zhu Jianqiang was considered healthy. So, the training started hehe
Several days after Zhu’s birth, Wang trained his pig daily by lifting her tail up for 30 days until he could agilely walk upside down. Wang told reporters in Chinese, ‘She proved to us that no matter what form life takes it should continue to live on.’
He has been offering money for the pig… but Wang refuses to sell him. Do take a look at the images below… who’s inspired??

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this article. This is really a special pig. Everyone deserves a chance to live. Why kill an animal when they have done no harm to us or did nothing wrong? The owner really made the right choice to give the pig a chance to live. By looking at the photos, I can see that the pig is big and healthy. Thanks to the love and care of the owner.
With folded palms,
Vivian
Mr Wang was very compassionate to kill the pig but instead was very patient to train cute Zhu to walk with its front legs. Very addorable and intelligent pig. Thank you very much Rinpoche for this inspiring story.
Dear Rinpoche, I realize that people who are quadriplegic are more hardworking maybe it’s because they appreciate what they have and don’t want to let their lives become a waste. And people who have everything like me doesn’t know how to appreciate it. Well, I’m gonna do something about it.
Dear Rinpoche,
What a special pig Zhu JianQiang is.
Though it is sad news that she had to be born like that I am very glad to know that she at the very least was born to a kind owner such as Mr Wang who no matter how handicapped Zhu JianQiang was he still did not want to put it to sleep and instead decided to give Zhu JianQiang a chance to live.
That is really how Loving, kind and compassionate to save Zhu JianQiang.
Zhu JianQiang is really a special pig!
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing about Zhu JianQiang!
Love
Jutika
This is so inspiring! It must have been a very tough time for Zhu Jian Qiang, but she did not give up. I think that this is the spirit that all of us should practise, even a two-legged pig is working hard to live on and why can’t we do that when we have everything we need?
Thank You for sharing Rinpoche.
Love, beatrix.
Isn’t this inspiring? Tells us that even though we may be born without the full perfect sense of limbs, we must never give up.
Thanks to Mr. Wang this pig was not slaughtered.
This is very inspiring. A two legged pig that was saved because of the kindness of his owner, Mr. Wang, who patiently trained him to walk with two legs. The pig has the will to live and did not give up. Everything is possible if we set our mind to doing it.
This two legs pig really special and strong .Very fortunate the owner is compassion , patient and never give up to train it , so happy when see this pig can walk with 2 legs only . This story truly inspire me that to be kind to all animals , they are need care, love and have right to live , do not kill and eat them . Thank you Rinpoche sharing this touching story.
i have heard of this happening to a dog, but i would have never thought that this would happen to a pig. So sad that this pig has to go through this. I really wished that this never happened.
But since it has already happened and there is nothing anybody can do about it. The this pig is really, a special pig. I am surprised that it could even stand up. Amazing. I hope that this pig will never loose faith in itself.
If this pig was abandoned at birth, his life would have been so much different.
I am glad to see this case happening in China, for in a poverty-striken country financial is usually the main consideration.
Yet, Mr Wang was so patient to teach the pig to learn special skills. And truly, NOW WHO IS INSPIRED?
Many things are possible, only if we do our best!
Hi Mr. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche. you have a really special blog
Zhu is a very strong peg. she teaches us a great lession
compassion for animals is intimately connected with goodness of character and it maybe confidently asserted that he who is cruel to animals cannot be a good man. Thank you very much Mr. Wang.
Thank you very much Mr.Wang.
Very inspiring & enlightening…. It’s amazing how this particular pig beats the odds…. I think God has make this pig as good example for the reason to live.
A strong-willed pig has become a celebrity through deformity in Henan province, China, benefiting its owner with fame, recognition and admiration! Since birth of this unique pig, a high price was said to have been offered to it, but turned down by owner. Both now karmically drifted into a very cordial relationship evidenced by owner’s words:-“She proved to us that even what form of life it takes she continues to live on, I wont sell her no matter how much the offer is”. Moreover, the pig’s response and human-like devotion to the owner seemed very deep, as Wang(owner) himself said, “Zhu(the pig) took only 30days the art of walking upsidedown taught to it, which attracted a lot of fame, popularity and admiration for both master and studentpig. How great karma really is, to have brought them together to help each other positively, which could have been generated by their pastlives love, compassion and patience. May they continue to receive good blessings of happiness to carry on for the rest of their harmonious livetime. OM MANI PADMI HUM.
Dearest Rinpoche,
Thank You for sharing with us. It’s inspired because of the
kindness and compassion of the owner, Zhu Jianqiang get to survive
and have been trained up…thanks to the owner Wang…!
Zhu the special pig walking on 2 legs is not ordinary. I feel it may be a manifestation of some spiritual being who has come to get human being in their compassion and kindness. It so happen out of the litter of piglets born there is only one that walk on 2 legs. After training by the farmer called Yang over 30 days she can walk upright. Zhu is a very intelligent pig, otherwise she will not learn so fast to walk with 2 legs. When the pigs was born the farmer’s wife ask the husband to dump the piglet away, But through the kindness of the farmer has kept this special pig. Now even the farmer’s wife refuse to part with the pig when people wants to buy her.
Yes, I also feel this pig is special. It is really loved and loving and shows such acceptance and courage, its highly acrobatic – you never know what’s behind. This farmer – this pig is a thrill, something extraordinary in his life – amazing and beautiful.
It does stir up my imperfect compassion; but honestly, it does more in making me feel the preciousness of human birth. i am much humbled, and reminded to be “ever conscientious to abandon even the slightest harm, and practise every possible virtue”; “knowing that this life of freedom, found but once, is difficult to gain and greatly meaningful…” Thank you Rinpochela, for another precious lesson.
This is a very inspiring story as it shows that even pigs have a great will to live. Then why are we still not appreciating that we have a complete form in this life and we even have the chance to learn the Dharma. Even though there was so much fame that came out from all the things that the pig can do but no one really actually took notice about the compassion that the man had to still keep the pig even when told to dump it. We should all be taking the man as an example on being compassionate to all animals and to not just give up on them and also be responsible for them too. I hope that in their future lives they would be able to learn the Dharma or at least, for the pig, have to karma to be a complete human and treat others kindly just like the owner of the pig has.
Keeping that pig alive has brought him a limited amount of fame… interesting low level result of his compassion.
Its not that the fame he accrued … instead its the humanity that he showed towards an animal which cant express its feelings or the pain she is going through….
How inspiring. Even a pig has such a will to live.
A question to ponder on,why are we humans always so unhappy with our lives even though we are in complete form?
Look at the pig and look at ourselves, WHO is the more fortunate one? =)
