Dear Thierry,
What your doing is very good. You can also get consecrated holy water with HH Dalai Lama’s mani pills in it and pour alittle over these animals when you come across them. You can of course give it to living animals also to drink or bath.
For the future:
You can keep a piece of their hair or bone and do a ritual on it called Vajra Yogini Ruchok which is very powerful to purify their karma to help them take rebirth. After the ruchok is done, their hair or bone may even be inserted into a stupa for the sake of them collecting merits. As long at the stupa exists, these beings will collet merit. You will have to have the Vajra Yogini empowerment to perform this ritual. Not only animals, but human hair and nails can be used also.
I thank you for your sincere concern for animals. It would be nice to have a huge animal sanctuary and on it have a huge stupa for all the animals to circumambulate around.

Sad to see sometimes dead animals on the road. Now i can do more to help them even they are dead after reading this article. Sometimes back Rinpoche did advice us we can recite to those living beings too.
Rinpoche idea of having a huge animal sanctuary and on it have a huge stupa for all the animals will be materialize one day.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this article and teachings as well.
感謝仁波切的共享,明確的信息教授我们如何處理逝去或活著的動物,這將有利於它们得到更好的來世。
We see road kills very often on the roads. Due to their karma, these animals had to undergo this suffering. There’s not much we can do except recite mantras for them or if we are able to, we can blow mantras on them. It’s good, as Rinpoche advised, to pour consecrated holy water on them if possible. For this, we must remember to have holy water and mani pills with us in case these are needed.
Thank you for asking the question Thierry many people will be benefitted from it.
As reflected in Rinpoche’s mind, “It would be nice to have a huge animal sanctuary with a nice huge stupa on it for all rescued animals to circumbulate around”. The sancuary will also give rescued animals and those that are sick to live out the natural course of their lives in peace and harmony, and a chance to gain a higher rebirth. In the sanctuary, the rescued animals will have a chance to regularly hear mantras being chanted and be led around the stupa to create merits. Thank you Rinpoche for your kind and compassionate ideal suggestions.
Thank you Rinpoche, for teaching us how to help these poor defenceless animals, dead or alive.
I usually do Medicine Buddha’s mantra. Now I know to do more.
Thank you.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this article with us. It enables us to know those methods to deal with those dead animals.
As commented by Julien, I had always wondered of we can do more and now that we have been taught by Rinpoche, let us do more for these poor animals killed suddenly by motorists and not caring for them.
We shall be having stupa at KFR, let us make concentrated efforts for these poor things.
Dear Rinpoche,
I admire the love and compassion on animals in Thierry. I do one or two prayers for dead animals to help them take rebirth. But I don’t feel that compassion in my heart. I think something is missing from my heart… Is it normal ?
Dear Rinpoche, what Thierry said is very true. I do come across dead animals on the road quite often but not as many times as Thierry has come across. And I also dedicate the merits that I collected in the prayers so that the animals are able to have a better chance to become a human being and learn the dharma.
Thank you Rinpoche for teaching us the method to helping dead and living animals. I always recited mantras(Om Mani Padme Hum) blow to the dead body on the road and wish them can rebirth to good place and able to learn dharma.Later I learned from Rinpoche ,we can get consecrated holy water with mani pills to pour over these dead animals, and also give it to living animals to drink or bath. Also can keep a piece of their hair or bone and do Vajra Yogini Ruchok which is very powerful to purify their karma to help them take rebirth. Definitely will sharing this information to our friends & members,we can do the better way to benefit the dead and living animals when we encounter this situation in the future.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing on the Vajra Yogini Ruchok for the benefit of many people. We need to pray for the animals so that more sentient beings can take good rebirth and able to practise Dharma.
It’s really good of what Thierry is doing, seldom people do what he does. He is truly a very kind person! I’m very happy to know that there are still people who care about other sentient beings.
I am very happy that this question was actually asked. I too recite mantras whenever i see dead animals on the road, and i too have wondered it that was enough. But now thanks to Rinpoche well explained answer, i have no more doubts 🙂 i now know the better thing to do when i encounter this situation in the future. Thank you Rinpoche for sharing and thank you Thierry for asking the question.
Thanks Rinpoche for the sharing, we sholud always have mani pills and holy water with us…
Hence thanks for Rinpoche kindness to have a first ever Vajra Yogini stupa in Kechara Forest Retreat and able to let us submit our or deceased person or pets hair, nails and photo to bless with Vajra Yogini Ruchok then after the ruchok is done, all will be inserted into a stupa for the sake of them collecting merits. As long at the stupa exists, these beings will collet merit.
Thank you, Rinpoche, for sharing a more effective way to help animals who have been killed mercilessly by careless drivers. It is wonderful to help animals, even if they are deceased.
That is very sweet action to take when coming across live or dead animals. I have always just recited Manjushri mantra and just blow it onto them whilst visualising Manjushri entering into their minds. Later I learnt from Rinpoche that we should recite Medicine Buddha mantra and visual and pray that may their future lives be reborn close to the dharma and become dharma practitioners or teachers. Which can also be done when pouring food for animals into bowls.
Thank you Tsem Rinpoche Sharing , I have learned some method to handle dead and living animal when I cross with them , it will benefit to them , mean while , We are so fortunately to have KFR and going to have Varja Yogini stupa soon , we are so fortune to have Tsem Rinpoche to created the caused for us which we can put our nails and hairs in to the stupa and collecting merits , Thank you Tsem Tulku Rinpoche .Rejoice !
Thank you for Rinpoche’s sharing, it give us a clear information how to help the animals especially it is true quite frequent we saw dead body of animals. We need to show our care to animals also.
