Creativity Never Goes Out of Style
Creativity is not something that everyone is blessed with. But if we try hard and stay committed, there are so many things that we can achieve in a creative sense… we may not even be aware of our own talents and capacity for creativity!
I recently came across a website showcasing cabins that were conceptualized and constructed very creatively. I like these concepts very much because they are environmentally friendly and don’t take up a lot of space. Dukkar Apartments in Kechara Forest Retreat is also inspired by container-style living, which I have previously blogged about here. I conceptualized of the idea and my students built it with lots of hard work and dedication. It is now a beautiful and spacious living quarters built out of cabins/shipping containers.
Please enjoy these pictures.

This Cabin in the Woods is Built Out of Three Shipping Containers. Wait Till You See Inside
Deep in a very secluded area in Southern Ontario, three side-by-side shipping containers lay. The contents of the shipping containers might just blow your mind.
At a glance from the outside they look like your average shipping containers.
Once you open the doors the magic happens…
Not impressed yet? Let’s look inside
We have what seems like tons of space, which includes a fireplace, kitchen, and a shower.
Sorry, no toilet but there’s an outhouse in the back.

I love these beautiful architecture and interesting designs of houses. It is amazing how an architect can turn a shipping container into a home.
Many people choose luxurious lifestyle. I am impressed with the ideas to reuse natural resources to build a dream house. This concept saves the environment in many ways that we don’t destroy the nature and spend unnecessarily.

How amazing that the cozy cabin is so well hidden behind the three containers. Containers living had certainly been pretty popular, especially in countries where four seasons bestow cool temperature. Combine three containers provide for huge space that can make up to a hall. It can be a nice place for gathering and community services. Thank you, Rinpoche, for this sharing.
Love this simple, spacious and creative beautiful house. And can’t believe its built from containers like the ones in KFR. Simply amazing! Thank you very much Rinpoche for sharing this article.
The first scene of the cabin is just comfortable and peaceful. I love the combination of metals and woods, it’s raw, solid, and great appearance at all time.
With full efforts and determination, nothing is impossible. Once, we obtain the results from the hard works we have done, all sufferings and sacrificings will be worthy and valuable. However, great results only come to our way when we do it consistently and with full force.
Wow, that is a simplistic and lovely cabin hidden within containers. So creative and would be so nice for retreat house. Hmm only missing item is the toilet for convenience. Building using containers are also be very mobile and can be dismantled to be moved when needed. Setting it within the beautiful scenery as we wish.
Thank you for sharing this creative home, Rinpoche and I do love Dukkar Apartment with the container rooms. Very unique!
An amazing Cabin in the Woods. Elegant simplicity.
This is amazing! The house made from containers actually blew me away! So much thought put into something to simple to create a cozy little settlement, i love it!
The title of this post is stating that Creativity Never Goes Out of Style. All i can say is i agree 100%! When i saw the container house for the first time I couldn’t keep my eyes off it. The simplicity of it really is amazing. And i love how it is in the middle of the woods, that is what makes is special and what makes it stand out from other cabins in the woods.
To be honest, a caption wasn’t even needed for the pictures above. I think that the pictures speak for themselves. The creativity spouts out from the images. The moment you see it, you are amazed. i would love to like in that cabin.
It is amazing how creative the small spaces are being used. I believe that when space and resources are limited, the mind is challenged to create and go outside its comfort zone.
Thank you Rinpoche for this post to help expand our view and thinking
Dear Rinpoche,
I can hardly believe that this room is from the 3 containers above. It looks super and cosy.
The cabins in Dukkar Apartments are very nice to live in and the whole structure is built in a way that everything is at hand and with a roof to protect from the rain.
With thinking out of the box and looking for different solutions something creative and useful can arise.
Thank You for sharing,
Pastor Antoinette
Using containers for buildings somehow have an evergreen look. It never runs out of style. It’s modern, rustic and cosy. Creativity to me reflects the person’s commitment and dedication towards the project. How much creativity the person puts into the project is shown in the end result. The key to creativity is whether the person balances the aesthetics with the user’s needs and lifestyle.
I have seen many designs that are out of this world but not practical to the user. So it defeats the purpose. It only shows the self centric trait of the person creating it.
This cabin is modern, spacious and has everything one needs to live comfortably. It is probably quite inexpensive to build and would be suitable for people who do not have a lot of money. All one needs is creativity!
The cabin is the ideal house for many others I believe, including myself. It’s truly amazing what people are capable of doing when they are creative and determined. I’m pretty sure that building this cabin was not easy at all because there were many factors and safety precautions that had to be taken into consideration. I personally do not like big houses, this little cabin here is simple and the size of it is just nice, not too big nor small. It may look very plain from the outside but with a touch of creativity, the house looks very elegant and clean, it looks very welcoming.
If not showing the outside, one probably would not think this is a container home and it looks spacious and so cozy. Yes, if we try hard and committed we might get something out that we might not think could do it initially. I started to look at container homes and interested in this concept and accepted it when my Guru H.E. Tsem Rinpoche starting building Dukkar Apartment and I have experience to stay in the apartment in the green forest in Bentong. My Guru opens up my view about this type of living style and the possibility of having a “steel” home and living away from the city…
