My Dream House
This is really my dream house. Wow….look at the mountains in the background…the trees, the grass, open space…this house in the middle of the forests of Colorado, USA is really what I like alot. I always wanted to live in the forest, mountains and have lots of trees. I guess this picture was taken in the fall, imagine in the spring and summers, how green everything would be???? Spectacular. If I could have a house, I would have it just like this…lots of floor to ceiling window to see nature…
How conducive for spiritual awakening this kind of place would be… I wouldn’t be bored there at all. From this house in the forest I would blog, answer people’s questions sometimes, do my practices, read tons of dharma books, have a big shrine and do lots of offerings. And friends would come up maybe every two weeks to bring supplies…how nice and ideal. I really have a longing for this. I’ve longed for a place and life like this since I was a very young kid…
Well I posted this up to share my ultimate dream retreat place in the mountains with all of you.
How many of you can live in such a place and under the conditions I described? Let me know in the comments section. Could you live there?? Why or why not?
Much care,
Tsem Rinpoche
Closeup of the house. Notice the floor to ceiling windows that makes you feel like you are just living outside? I love that feeling. In the tantric texts it says, when we do retreats, in between sessions it is good to look at broad expansive open spaces so the internal winds do not get stuck and our mind becomes tight. We have to look out at vast expanses in between sessions and go for fresh air as a remedy during intensive or long retreats….. It helps very much to do this during retreats.
I would have a large stupa built outside the house very nearby also. Inside I would house at least 100,000 tsatsas, images, etc of just Vajra Yogini..so the whole area will be pervaded by Her energy. Maybe alot of thumbdrives with millions of images of Vajra Yogini to be placed in the stupa with hair I have of His Holiness Kyabje Zong Rinpoche.
This Vajra Yogini stupa would bless the land, nagas, animals, environment and water of that area. Whoever comes to that area would have the sacred enlightened imprints of Vajra Yogini in their mindstream…
I would have a connected butterlamp house also where I would have a 8 foot statue of Vajra Yogini inside and offer hundreds of butterlamps to Her daily. I like butterlamp retreats also. I’ve already arranged to have 100,00 butterlamps offered to Vajra Yogini in Nepal Ladrang last year where I have a butterlamp house. It takes around 5-7 months to complete depending… After me, I have some students also sponsoring 100,000 butterlamps again and again to Vajra Yogini in the Nepal Ladrang…
I would also happily feed the animals like birds, deers, small mammals also in the area. I love feeding animals….. Be neat if Sasquatch visited too..hehehe..Maybe not as he would scare my doggies…
Connected to the house, I would have a cozy huge dog pen with indoor and outdoor resting area and have lots of doggies there. It would be gated in so the doggies will be safe, yet have plenty of grass to run on and fresh air.
I would have a nice kitchen cooking vegan food too…And big thangkas hanging throughout the house. I would definitely have a powerful Manjushri thangka in the house…
If I have time, maybe I would have a organic vegetable garden and rose/marigold garden. The flower garden is good for plucking the flowers to offer on my shrine…
I would plant tomatoes, onions, potatoes, lettuce, cucumbers most likely… how nice to have these fresh daily…

Everyone dreams of having their own house, people imagine what their future houses will be like, spacious environment, big land, what they are made of or how beautiful and adventurous they are. Having an idea about a dream house is very important as it gives individual to work towards their goal to achieve.
I really love and always admire beautiful house built in the middle of the forest. A peaceful surrounding one can feel, looking at the serene landscape designed with amazing architectural. Living in such a green environment will definitely, calm our mind and will remind us of the importance of our natural environment.
Thanks for the wonderful sharing and I too had an idea from it.

Every one of us have a dream house and it differ from individual. To where we want to live in a peaceful , quiet surrounding or living in cities. To me I much prefer to live not so hectic place such like near a beach site where I could hear daily the sound waves hitting against the rocks.
Rinpoche’s dream house looks good too. A good place for meditation and retreats a place in nature away from a busy life.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing Rinpoche’s dream house with is.
Beautiful place and a great one to getaway from noise and people for the weekend for relaxation and meditation. Thank you Rinpoche for a nice house and place to daydream about..Lol ????
Dear Rinpoche, it looks like a wonderful place for living – if you have the good karma to live in a normal way there. I would add a library room and artificial fur carpets(I like artificial fur a lot). Also the aircon system must be really good as much as the heat system. I agree about the things you would change – it would be better. Thank you for this dream travel !
it’s really a dream house! perfect combination – wonderful nature and surroundings and classical architecture – bauhaus style.the picture could be made in my homeland – austria. we’re in a deep connection to nature and we love design/architecture – great designers/architects are from austria – in the past and in current days too. i wish i could realize such a project for the right person/owner who knows about the value.
i’m myself a designer – special field indoor design – and i’m hungry about such informations – thank you so much! fogo – somchai – an austrian living and working as teacher in thailand/samut prakan
my dream house is there is a pool, there are one bathoom, there are six clocets, there are five bedrooms, there are two kitchens, there are seven office, there are seven balconys, there are one garage and there are the third floor. thank you
Dear Rinpoche,
I could stay at a wonderful place in the nature and in a similar house like this for retreats but not permanent as I both like company but also very much now and than like to be on my own.
To not have much things, furnitures and people around makes the mind peaceful and focused. Other and more things, seen and unseen get a chance to be noticed. I´ve been for several retreats during similar conditions about 10 days at the time, the longest for a month sofar, without talking, writing or reading (no phone or computer). It´s absolutely wonderful!
I like these iterior http://blog.tsemtulku.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/2010/07/i-like-these-types-of-rooms.html more than them above as it looks softer. Maybe more details of wood would make it eaven more softer.
One thing I would like very much is ability to make a fire when it´s cold and dark. The fireplace could be made of stone to keep the heat in the room longer. It´s calming to sit and look at fire and listen to the sounds from the fire burning.
I fully understand your whishes for a home like this!
With Love & Respect
Helen
Hi Rinpoche,
I would like to live out in the country, where my dogs could run free away from traffic, our horses would be happy there too and i prefer to be outside rather than stuck in an office environment. It would be nice to see the changing of the seasons as well.
I would have a workshop where i could make things and fix things. I like to fix things and knowing how things work. I like to be useful. If it was near a river i would try and set up a water wheel to make electricity, i like the idea of being energy efficient and making a good use of our resources.
I could get quite used to being on my own, i am wary of other people, i fear they will be unkind to me or that i will be a disapointment to them in some way. For this reason i think that living a life too isolated would not be good for me as it would not make me face up to my insecurities and push myself to improve.
I hope you get your home in the hills one day!
Jon 🙂
Dear Jon,
What a nice honest comment. I like what you wrote and I thank you for your good wishes.

Dear Rinpoche,
Thank you…your website and writings are beautiful and honest. I’ve been researching ‘sustainable’ homes…a different, simpler way of living…there are so many possibilities! This looks a lot like Crestone Colorado! This is a very high-tech home…an excellent example of passive solar heating and cooling. I’m curious about those tiles…interesting! I do live in a place like this…in Alaska. Mountains, and vast spaces are important to me. I am a natural forager, and gardener…would love to not have to rely on my car so much. Yes…I could live with all these conditions…though the architectural style I’d prefer is not so stark. I love the rich, earthy qualities of adobe…I’m weary of living in squares…a dwelling more like a hogan is preferable…with a soaring reciprocal roof! May you realize your dream!

my sanctuary by utada hikaru.
here are the lyrics if you can’t read it:
wonk uoy naht noitceffa erom deen i (i need more affection than you know)
in you and i, there’s a new land
angels in flight

my sanctuary, my sanctuary, yeah
where fears and lies melt away
music in time
wonk uoy naht noitceffa erom deen i (i need more affection than you know)
what’s left of me, what’s left of me, now
i watched you fast asleep
all i fear means nothing
in you and i, there’s a new land
angels in flight
wonk uoy naht noitceffa erom deen i (i need more affection than you know)
my sanctuary, my sanctuary, yeah
where fears and lies melt away
music in time
wonk uoy naht noitceffa erom deen i (i need more affection than you know)
what’s left of me, what’s left of me

Dearest Rinpoche,
I could most definitely live there!!! Without a question!!! I too like when its green around… I love open spaces too especially where our doggies can run around and play fetch. I love to forage too. Pick, flowers, herbs, mushrooms maybe, wood for the fireplace, etc… Would love to be able to plant some fruit trees too… Nice! I love seasonal changes so long as the house is comfortable and warm during the winters (especially our poor mumus who may not be too used to the cold)
Overall, I love to be in the wilderness… much love… Andrew
