A Daily Request for Wealth1, Peace2 and Protection3

Composed by H.E. Tsem Rinpoche

In the heavens4 there are myriad manifestations of the divine. All those manifestations specifically show us different aspects of divinity5 in order to be of benefit to all living beings. All the rupakaya6 forms of the divine have compassion, skillful means and wisdom. We invoke upon them whether we are happy, sad, down, lost, fulfilled, confused, empty, and during the whole range of emotions we constantly experience due to an untrained mind.

Understanding our nature, Great Wisdom Being Dorje Shugden, therefore all the more so, please hold us close to your bosom as an only child to a parent.

Though the manifestations of the divine need no offerings and gifts from us, we offer you supreme Manjushri7 Dorje Shugden a libation of tea, incense and mantras, in order to ask you to bless us, to be a part of our lives, to abide in our dwellings and to give us signs, omens and portents of both good and bad. When the negative arises, quell them immediately. Please increase the positive for my weary and worn mind as I lay my hopes in you.

When difficulties, problems and confusion arise, we ask you, who is but the culmination of all that is powerful, holy and omniscient to bless myself, family, loved ones, environment and even my pets. May I see wisdom, find hope, and be at peace.

I request you, O Divine Bhagavān8 Dorje Shugden, who wears a round dome hat and the three robes of a saffroned bhikshu9, who wields a sword of liberty, justice and wisdom and clutches a wish-fulfilling jewel, who rides on a supreme lion of subjugation of all that is negative, to fulfill my wishes. I understand my wishes may not be the best, so I surrender to your wisdom for the outcome though it may not be what I have in mind. Please bless myself and everyone that we may enter into the supreme city of liberation.

Great Bhagavān Dorje Shugden, I request you sincerely from my heart to be a part of my life, bless my home, and grant me wisdom, solace and comfort, that I might be of service to others without agenda, and that I may focus out onto others and not be fixated on myself, creating more problems for all that I hold dear.

Bless me to become kinder, wiser, more compassionate, tolerant and very forgiving to all those who hurt and love me. In order to become close to you, Dorje Shugden, we must surrender the banal. We must abandon fixed views, projections and rigidity. Lastly, in my final moment when I leave this plane of existence, only the positive actions I have done will matter as everything and everyone will be left behind. Let me realise this and act upon this now! At this crucial moment, please may I have a vision of yourself, the powerful and merciful Dorje Shugden, to take me to where I may course in the sky10 to continue my journey of spiritual waxing.

I offer you saffron-coloured tea and my faith to fulfill my prayers and gain siddhis11. By reciting your mantra, may healing, peace, love, long life, protection and perfect view of sunyata12 arise.

Mantra of fulfillment, peace and wisdom: OM BENZA WIKI BITANA SOHA

(It is good to recite this mantra one rosary or more per day. Occasionally, engage in retreats where you recite the mantra 100,000 times or more per year, every year. Consistency brings results!)

I dedicate this supreme heartfelt prayer to the all-knowing Celestial and Supreme Protector Dorje Shugden, that I may quickly become a being of light, compassion, love and enlightenment.

This daily prayer to Dorje Shugden was composed by H.E. Tsem Rinpoche on Thursday, 26 February 2015 at 2:03am for Datin MJ. There are many rituals, texts, prayers and rites on Dorje Shugden. But for a person who has many responsibilities and may not have the time, this might suit them better. I have composed this with the motivation to make it simple for Datin. This prayer can be used by anyone at any time. After all, words are just an expression of the universal hopes and wishes we all have. It is needless to be focused on words, but we do need them as they verbalise our aspirations. May this short and concise prayer be of benefit to Datin, and I will have this available for many. Anyone may engage in this prayer without specific permission, regardless of faith. Dorje Shugden helps all beings without labels of religion, race, creed or background. Datin was my inspiration for composing this. The many people who will use this to ‘contact’ World Peace Buddha and Protector Dorje Shugden have Datin to thank. I offer my best wishes. Sarva Mangalam!

    Dear friends,

Tibet has produced many powerful meditations, rituals and guidelines to help us gain spiritual protection, gain wisdom and higher states of consciousness. In general Tibet has produced many powerful methods for the growth of our spiritual evolution. Dorje Shugden is an angel, a saint, a powerful spiritual protector-warrior who originated 350 years ago when a highly awakened Tibetan Lama fulfilled his vows to become a special being to grant protection, wisdom, material needs, safety when travelling (normal and astral travel) and spiritual awakening. Both the Great 5th Dalai Lama and the current His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama composed short yet effective prayers to invoke upon the power and blessings of this special saint and protector. One can recite either one of the prayers that you feel suits you, anytime or even daily. When you feel a special need for help, you can recite either prayer anytime. When you are feeling down, afraid or just need a blessing, you can recite them. After reciting either invocation, it is good to chant the mantra of Dorje Shugden: Om Benza Wiki Bitana Soha.

You do not have to be a Buddhist or practitioner of any religion to invoke upon the blessings and protection of this special enlightened and awakened angel Dorje Shugden. He helps all without discrimination or bias as he is filled with compassion and love. Divinity has no boundaries, they help all who call upon them.

Enclosed are the prayers in English, Chinese and Tibetan.

May you be safe, protected and blessed.

Divination (‘mo’) Text by Dorje Shugden

This is an important divination (‘mo’) text composed by Dorje Shugden himself. Dorje Shugden took trance of the Choyang Dulzin oracle lama, the senior oracle of Gaden Shartse Monastery, and instantly on the spot composed this text within two hours.

The divination text contains information on how to use dice to do divination for the future and is known to be highly accurate. When practitioners use this text, they will be in direct contact with Dorje Shugden to get answers to questions about the future. It is for those who have good samaya with Dorje Shugden and are free of the eight worldly dharmas to be of benefit to others in divining the future.

Dorje Shugden is an emanation of Manjushri, so he is a fully enlightened dharma protector who we can rely on. Many high lamas also relied on him. For examples, Trijang Rinpoche, Zong Rinpoche, Panchen Lama, etc. Not only many lamas rely on Dorje Shugden, but many high lamas also have written prayers to Dorje Shugden.

However, the Tibetan leadership claims that Dorje Shugden is a demon and we should not propitiate him. They said Dorje Shugden will shorten the life of the Dalai Lama, he will harm people who practice other Buddhist traditions. They also said Dorje Shugden practitioners are Chinese paid spies to jeopardise the Free Tibet cause.

All these claims are not true at all. If Dorje Shugden is a demon, why all the high lamas don’t come together to subdue him or send him to the light? Dorje Shugden cannot be subdued because he is a Buddha. The Dalai Lama is 83 years old this year, how is his life being shortened? Until today, no one can provide any proof to the claim that Dorje Shugden practitioners are paid by the Chinese government.

Dorje Shugden is a scapegoat to cover up the failure and incompetent of the Tibetan leadership. They have fought for 60 years for the freedom of Tibet but until today, there is no progress.

His Holiness the 10th Panchen Lama

Tibetans commonly refer to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and His Holiness 10th Panchen Lama as the “sun and moon” of Tibetan Buddhism. They are the center of Tibetan Buddhist civilization, which draws to its sphere of influence millions of non-Tibetan practitioners. The Panchen Lama’s incarnation line began with the 16th abbot of Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, Lobsang Chokyi Gyeltsen (1570 – 1662). He was bestowed the title of Panchen Lama by His Holiness the 5th Dalai Lama after being declared as an emanation of Amitabha.

After being given the title, his three previous incarnations were posthumously also bestowed the title, making Lobsang Chokyi Gyeltsen the 4th Panchen Lama. He became a teacher to many Tibetans, Bhutanese and Mongolian religious figures, including His Holiness the 4th and 5th Dalai Lamas, and the 1st Jetsun Dampa of Mongolia. A prolific author, Chokyi Gyeltsen is credited with over a hundred compositions, including a number of commentaries and ritual texts that remain central in the Gelukpa tradition today. Along with his role as a teacher of the Dharma, the Panchen Lamas are usually responsible for the recognition of the rebirths of the Dalai Lamas, and vice versa.

The 10th Panchen Lama, Lobsang Trinley Lhundrub Chokyi Gyeltsen (19 February 1938 – 28 January 1989) continued both the spiritual and political roles of his predecessors. His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, his contemporary, was even heard to say and echo the Panchen Lama’s own words that the Dalai Lama would safeguard Tibet from the outside while the Panchen Lama would safeguard Tibet from the inside, as he never left Tibet after the political troubles of 1959. He was truly loved by the Tibetans, all the way until his passing. When he taught, thousands of people would attend, not only from his own Gelug lineage, but masters and practitioners from all traditions of Tibetan Buddhism.

At his sprawling monastery of Tashi Lhunpo, he has a special chapel specifically dedicated to Dorje Shugden, where prayers and rituals are performed on a daily basis. In his great omniscience the Panchen Lama held Dorje Shugden as the principal Dharma protector of the monastery. He also personally propitiated Dorje Shugden among other Dharma protectors, and even wrote extensive prayers and rituals to Dorje Shugden. These rituals and prayers are contained within his ‘sung bum’ or collected works, which are provided here. As such a great lama, with an erudite and clear understanding of the Buddhist scriptures, a teacher to millions in both Tibet and China, from an established incarnation line and an emanation of the Buddha Amitabha, he could not be mistaken about his practice of Dorje Shugden.

His Holiness 10th Panchen Lama is known for his composition of commentaries and practice texts that are still in use by contemporary Buddhist practitioners both in Tibet and across the world. One of these is a powerful ritual composition propitiating the compassionate Dorje Shugden.

Upon the request by Acharya Lobsang Jangchub to compose a shorter version of the prayer (sadhana) for the exhortation of activities of Dorje Shugden, Panchen Lama immediately composed an abbreviate form of Dorje Shugden’s Kangsol. This text is entitled “Manjunatha’s (Tsongkapa) Lineage protector Dorje Shugden and five forms wrathful propitiations and confessional prayers and fulfilment of activities rites” or “Melodious sound of Accomplishment of the Four Activities” for short. Once the prayers were completed, he had signs and strong feelings that Dorje Shugden has been working hard to protect the Buddhadharma in general and the lineage of Lama Tsongkhapa specifically.

Mirroring the abilities of one of his earlier incarnations, Khedrub Je, a disciple of Lama Tsongkhapa and master of both sutra and tantra, the Panchen Lama used his compositional skill and poetic prowess to create a masterful sadhana. Worthy of note is a praise in which the first letter of each verse is a Tibetan vowel. Such compositions are rarely seen, and have historically only been used when propitiating senior Dharma protectors such as Palden Lhamo and Kalarupa.

The Panchen Lama also stated that while composing the Dorje Shugden sadhana (prayers) he was filled with a sense of happiness and bliss. He ends the composition with not only his official title but his ordination name, Tenzin Trinley Jigme Choje Wangchuk, endorsing the validity of his work. He composed the sadhana in his own Tashi Lhunpo monastery while in the Hall of Clear Light and Bliss.

For the first time available, Dorje Shugden and his entourage of 32 asssistants of his mandala.

Dorje Shugden is a powerful protector deity who is also an emanation of Manjushri, a wisdom bestowing Buddha. Therefore, he has great ability to help us to progress further on the spiritual path. He does this by helping us to overcome obstacles and problems for the modern individual.

Due to his enlightened nature, Dorje Shugden is able to manifest 32 deities and within the same abode resides Setrap and Kache Marpo:-

    1. 5 Dorje Shugden families or emanations. They consists of the following:-

    – Dulzin Dorje Shugden, which performs activities to eliminate inner and outer obstacles.
    – Shize, which performs activities to pacify all illnesses and disease.
    – Gyenze, which performs activities to increase all desirable material and spiritual wealth.
    – Wangze, which performs activities to control difficult people and circumstances.
    – Trakze, which performs activities to wrathfully eliminate all insurmountable obstacles and life-threatening situations.

    2. 9 Mothers. They represent protection of the five senses and developing control of the four elements. These are all attributes that signify their ability to assist tantric practitioners with their higher meditations.

    3. 8 Guiding Monks. They represent the Eight Great Bodhisattvas (Avalokitesvara, Manjushri, Vajrapani, Samantabhadra, Maitreya, Kshitigarbha, Akashagarbha, Sarva-nivarana-viskambini) and they bring about the growth of the Dharma, through the Sangha, Dharma practitioners and Dharma establishments.

    4. 10 Youthful & Wrathful Attendants. They represent the ten wrathful attendants to avert inner and outer obstacles. They are beings who are from Mongolia, China, Kashmir, India, Bengali, etc.

    5. Setrap. He is a senior Dharma Protector from India and an emanation of Amitabha Buddha. He had enthroned Dorje Shugden as an authentic Dharma Protector. Therefore, he also resides within the same mandala of Dorje Shugden.

    6. Kache Marpo. He is not an emanation of Dorje Shugden but he is still an enlightened Dharma Protector in his own right. He was originally known as Tsiu Marpo of Samye Monastery. However, he has placed himself under the service of Dorje Shugden as his chief minister, performing many activities in order to protect and benefit practitioners. Therefore, he stands guard at the main entrance of Dorje Shugden’s mandala. He often takes trance of qualified mediums to speak.

    7. Namkar Barzin. He is the reincarnation of an old Mongolian monk and when he passed away in Phari area of Tibet, his spirit was placed as a powerful assistant of Dorje Shugden. He guards and protects buildings and great institutions especially those that benefit others. He rides on a mythical Gyaling animal that resembles a goat but with scales.

These sacred images are available on *Vajrasecrets. They are made of high quality alloy and are one of a kind. They are based on the lineage of His Holiness Panchen Rinpoche’s monastery, Tashilhunpo in Shigatse, Tibet. In fact, the iconography of these statues are based on detailed photographs taken by H. E. Tsem Rinpoche during a trip to Tashilhunpo’s protector chapel. These are based exactly as the 10th Panchen Lama’s personal collection.

Referring to this part of the prayer:

May I know at the Om Benza Wiki Bitana Soha, do we start to recite it or just read the mantra out once and then continue reading the part “I dedicate this supreme heartfelt prayer…”?

This is a powerful picture of Geshe Tsultrim Gyeltsen, Kensur Kyabje Lati Rinpoche and the current incarnation of Trijang Rinpoche meeting together in the year 2000 when Trijang Rinpoche was 18. All three lamas are Dorje Shugden practitioners. In fact Geshe Tsultrim Gyeltsen was the one that first encouraged my practice of Dorje Shugden when I was 16 years old when I joined his beautiful Thubten Dhargye Ling centre in Los Angeles. I lived with Geshe Tsultrim Gyeltsen for 8 years before proceeding to Gaden Monastery in South India. Later Kyabje Zong Rinpoche came to our Los Angeles centre and granted sogtae (permission ceremony) to practice Dorje Shugden for life as requested by Geshe Tsultrim Gyeltsen. Geshe Tsultrim Gyeltsen had tremendous faith in Trijang Rinpoche. Kyabje Lati Rinpoche was innovative, dedicated and very much focused on bringing dharma to many. He had tremendous faith in Dorje Shugden as I had the honour to meet him many times. He would seek advice from Dorje Shugden many times via the oracle of Gaden Monastery. Geshe Tsultrim Gyeltsen and Kensur Kyabje Lati Rinpoche have since passed away while the current Trijang Rinpoche is a perfect lineage holder and practitioner of Dharma while he keeps Dorje Shugden as his personal protector as he has done so for many lifetimes. This is a powerful and beautiful picture of three great lamas of Buddha’s lineage and also of Gaden Monastery.

This is such a wonderful change. People who take the time to research and think logically about the Dorje Shugden issue can easily see past the prejudice. I am seeing more and more of this shift away from blind hatred of an ancient and holy practice that has been maligned. Very happy for Suzy.

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this powerful short prayer to Dorje Shugden.

Some of the people said Dorje Shugden is a demon/devil and therefore if we practice Dorje Shugden, it is equivalent to the worship of demon. Nevertheless, if Dorje Shugden is really a demon, this short prayer to Dorje Shugden may not has the phrases to bless everyone to enter into the supreme city of liberation and ask for the blessing to become kinder, wiser, more compassionate and many more other good qualities.

May Manjushri and Dorje Shugden bless everyone to illuminate their ignorance and increase wisdom to see the truth.

    Hello Rinpoche

This link will take you to a thangka of Dorje Shugden and Vajrapani.

  24. Harold Musetescu on Jan 13, 2017 at 6:57 pm

    Hello Rinpoche

If we can now see Dorje Shugden as Buddha Vajrapani as per the Sera Monastery tradition what does that mean?

It appears to mean that we can now see the wrathful emanation of “Trakze” in a new and different light. Trakze is seen as wrathful Dorje Shugden riding on a “Garuda”. Can Trakze now be seen as “Buddha Vajrapani Dorje Shugden” riding of “Buddha Vajrapani Black Garuda”?

You have given teachings on Lama Zopa’s ” Fire Sword of Black Garuda” practice.
Please google “PDF Black Garuda FPMT” to see the actual practice. It starts with “NAMO GURU VAJRAPANIYI” which is “Homage to Guru Vajrapani”. It states in this practice “(Look at Black Garuda with the understanding and devotion that this is actually Buddha)……”. This indicates that this practice is to be seen as a “Buddha Vajrapani” practice.

If you wish to see Dorje Shugden as “Buddha Manjushri” that is perfectly fine. You can also now see Dorje Shugden as “Buddha Vajrapani” as per the 18th century Sera Monastery tradition that was followed by the 2nd Reting Rinpoche, Serkong Dorje Chang and the monks of Sera Monastery.

With that in mind you can now practice “Trakze” as “Buddha Vajrapani Dorje Shugden” riding on “Buddha Vajrapani Black Garuda”. You can now see “Trakze” as two “Buddha Vajrapani’s” in one.

What do you think of all of this Tsem Tulku?

Can “Trakze” now be seen as two “Buddha Vajrapani’s” combined into one?

  25. Harold Musetescu on Jan 13, 2017 at 6:25 am

    Hello Rinpoche

This is further to my reply about Dorje Shugden is an emanation Buddha Vajrapani.

Please google “PDF His Holiness Trijang Rinpoche – Dorje Shugden”.

On page 3 below the wrathful photo of Dorje Shugden you will read,”Part of a praise written by Serkong Dorje Chang says:….YOU ARE VAJRAPANI, DORJE SHUGDEN I CONSECRATE YOU, THE POWERFUL ONE LIKE VAJRAPANI,THE PROTECTOR OF TSONGKAHAPS’S TEACHINGS”.

This is further proof of the Sera Monastery tradition of the 18th century the holds that Dorje Shugden is Vajrapani.

I hope you find this interesting.

  26. Pastor Han Nee on Jan 9, 2017 at 4:59 pm

This beautiful prayer is simple at first glance but is full of depth and profundity. We invoke the wisdom, compassion and skillful means of Dorje Shugden to help us whose minds are untrained and full of confusion. We request his blessings for wealth, peace and protection.
As we pray for his blessings and help, we also surrender to his wisdom “for the outcome though it may not be what we have in mind”.

We ask that we may “see wisdom, find hope and be at peace”, and that we may “become kinder, wiser, more compassionate, tolerant and very forgiving to all those who hurt and love us”. We ask most importantly that in our final moments that the powerful and merciful Dorje Shugden will take us to where we may continue our spiritual journey toward peace and enlightenment.

Reciting the sacred and powerful Mantra of Dorje Shugden -Om Benza Wiki Bitana Soha – will bring us ultimate fulfilment, peace and healing, love, long life, protection and wisdom.

Thank you Rinpoche for this beautiful and powerful prayer.

  27. Echeah on Jan 8, 2017 at 10:17 pm

Thank you Rinpoche for this lovely prayer to Dorje Shugden. We remind ourselves that the range of emotions we feel everyday is due to our untrained mind. Our praises and offerings to Dorje Shugden is not that he needs them but out of compassion, he allows us to create merit. We usually present a list of requirements and wishes for things that we think will make us happy, but we remind ourselves that we should instead have a higher purpose as those things will have no use for us when we eventually pass. It would be more worthwhile to request help to cultivate our minds and develop attainments. May this be our daily prayer. _/\_

  28. Harold Musetescu on Jan 6, 2017 at 2:45 am

    Hello Rinpoche

Were you aware that His Holiness Serkong Dorje Chang, Sera Monastery and the 2nd Reting Rinpoche (1759-1815) considered Dorje Shugden and emanation of the Buddha Vajrapani?

Yes that’s correct, starting in the 18th century Dorje Shugden was worshipped as an emanation of Vajrapani. Long, long, before our contemporary times were he is considered an emanation of Manjushri.

To find out more please google “Varjapani and Dorje Shugden” or go to http://www.dorjeshugdenhistory.com/among-shugden-texts-summary.html or http://www.dorjeshugdenhistory.com/among-shugden-texts-1759.html.

Or you also can check with the 7th Panglung Kuten whom you have so kindly given a permanent home to. While he is in trance Kache Marpo can tell you if H.H. Serkong Dorje Chang, the 2nd Reting Rinpoche and Sera Monastery believed Dorje Shugden to be an emanation of Buddha Vajrapani.

Here are some quotes from dorjeshugdenhistory.com. “Reting Rinpoche asked Dragri Gyatso Thaye to write the FIRST Gelug Long Ritual (Kangso) for Dorje Shugden….The Sera (Monastery) tradition of recognizing Dorje Shugden as Vajrapani continued through the Rituals of the Sera Tantric College….Finally Serkong Dorje Chang of Ganden Monastery seems to have written his Kangso in view of the tradition recognizing him as Vajrapani…..Not only was Dorje Shugden recognized as Avalokiteshvara and Vajrapani but he was recognized as Manjushri as well. This tradition is the most popular in contemporary times….”.

Why does the 14th Dalai Lama and the CTA continue with their lies that Dorje Shugden is and “Unenlightened Being”? Since the 18th century there is documented evidence to show that Dorje Shugden was considered the recognized emanation of Buddha Vajrapani.

For over 400 years Dorje Shugden has been seen by great Buddhist Tulku’s as being either the emanation of Avalokiteshvara, Vajrapani and most recently as Manjushri. All are Buddhas from whom Dorje Shugden is an emanation except in the eyes of the Dalai Lama and the CTA who continue to deny what their own history books show.

Dalai Lama STOP LYING. CTA STOP LYING.

I think your world wide readership would find this a excellent full article from you and you staff.

    Have a happy 2017 Rinpoche.

From Harold and the Tengyeling Oracle

** I understand my wishes may not be the best, so I surrender to your wisdom for the outcome though it may not be what I have in mind **

This is so true. The mind plays tricks and coupled with all the perceptions it’s almost impossible to know what is “right ” for us. Having faith and propitiating Dorje Shugden”s guidance and help will lead us to a higher goal, something our current state of mind may not sense regularly.

Thank you Rinpoche for your wisdom and compassion. With folded hands .

Thank you Rinpoche for composing this powerful short prayer that suit the modern people who may not understand the wrathful visualization of tantric imagery and offerings in other prayers.

Although this prayer is short, it contains the Three Principle Paths and completion of the path which are put in modern terms and language so that it is easier for us, especially the new practitioners, to understand, visualize and set our motivation properly.

I am extremely happy that the Chinese version is also available! This would be very good for those who does not understand English!

Thank you so much Rinpoche for finding all ways for many people to be connected with Lord Shugden, the emanation of Buddha of Wisdom. Thank you to Datin MJ too.

Trode Khangsar Chapel in Lhasa, Tibet

Over 400 years ago a great and learned lama Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen was famed in Mongolia, Tibet, Nepal and China for being very saintly and compassionate. He resided in his residence (Zimkhang Gongma Ladrang) in Drepung Monastery. His root guru was H.H. the Omniscient 4th Panchen Lama and his close dharma brother was the 5th Dalai Lama.

The 5th Dalai Lama and Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen had a very close and dharmic relationship and often went to receive teachings together from the 4th Panchen Lama. They were close in age. They both became very learned and well known. During this time, the Dalai Lama was enthroned as a Dharma King of Tibet. But more people went to see Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen for teachings, initiations and divinations. This made the attendants of the 5th Dalai Lama feel threatened that Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s fame might usurp the power of the 5th Dalai Lama. So they had a khata forced down his throat. At that moment, Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen dissolved his psychic winds and generated the wish to be a great guardian of Buddha and Tsongkapa’s teachings. As his consciousness dissolved, he entered ‘bardo’ as a dharma protector of the highest order (jikten depey sungma). Many signs were seen throughout Lhasa at this time and the earth was said to have shaken in Lhasa. This event was already predicted to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s previous incarnation when he was one of the 8 main disciples of Lord Tsongkapa the Supreme Master and he served Tsongkapa directly by building Gaden Monastery.

When the 5th Dalai Lama heard what his scheming and power-hungry attendants had done, he was very distressed. He was very sorry Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen was murdered and dishonored as he was a great dharma master. The 5th Dalai Lama composed an apology to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen. In Lhasa, tens of thousands gathered for the cremation of Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s holy body. During the cremation, the 5th Dalai Lama’s apology was read out at which flames spontaneously arose from the body of Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen commencing the cremation. From the body, during cremation, a powerful whirlwind of smoke tunneled into the sky for all to see as this was an indication Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s consciousness has arisen as the Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden. The Dharma Protector Setrap immediately recognized this new protector Dorje Shugden and ‘enthroned’ him as a powerful Dharma Protector in the realm of the Buddhas. From this, Setrap and Dorje Shugden are closely connected and very close working hand in hand always. After the cremation, the great 5th Dalai Lama built a Dorje Shugden chapel on the spot the cremation took place and named it Trode Khangsar. The 5th Dalai Lama commissioned the statue of Dorje Shugden in this chapel and had monks installed in the chapel to do continuous propitiations to Dorje Shugden. Trode Khangsar Chapel was a commemoration to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen who was wronged and also a celebration of his consciousness arising as the World Peace Peace Protector Dorje Shugden.

This Trode Khangsar Chapel still exists now in Lhasa where many make pilgrimages there. It is in good condition and was recently renovated. It is over 400 years old and a testimony to the respect the Great 5th Dalai Lama had to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen who arose as Dorje Shugden.

I have visited this holy chapel in Lhasa years back. I’ve never heard of it till I was in Lhasa and by chance, I was told about it which I was happy to visit. I could not find the place but strangely a bunch of pilgrims from Amdo told me they would show me how to get there in Lhasa.

This short video is a short clip of this holy Trode Khangsar Chapel in Lhasa today commemorating Dorje Shugden, built by the great 5th Dalai Lama. The great 5th Dalai Lama even composed a prayer to Dorje Shugden which is still available today and we can recite to invoke the blessings, protection, and assistance of World Peace Protector Dorje Shugden.

The 5th Dalai Lama’s Prayer to Dorje Shugden

    HUM
Though unmoving from the sphere of primordial spontaneity,
With wrathful turbulent power, swifter than lightning,
Endowed with heroic courage to judge good and bad,
I invite you with faith, please come to this place!

Robes of a monk, crown adorned with rhinoceros leather hat,
Right hand holds ornate club, left holds a human heart,
Riding various mounts such as nagas and garudas,
Who subdues the mamos of the charnel grounds, praise to you!

Samaya substances, offerings and torma, outer, inner and secret,
Favourite visual offerings and various objects are arranged.
Although, previously, my wishes were a bit dense,
Do not stop your powerful apparitions, I reveal and confess!

Now respectfully praising with body, speech, and mind,
For us, the masters, disciples, benefactors and entourages,
Provide the good and avert the bad!
Bring increase like the waxing moon in spiritual and temporal realms!

    Moreover, swiftly accomplishing all wishes,
According to our prayers, bestow the supreme effortlessly!
And like the jewel that bestows all wishes,
Always protect us with the Three Jewels!

This is such a beautiful prayer, which is a manifestation of the kindness and patience of our Guru who “personalizes” the practice to our daily life and routine. Although the prayer has been condensed, it is still complete and potent with all the blessings of the 3 Jewels. This reiterates the great importance of a Guru because only he has the wisdom and skill to adapt the teachings of Lord Buddha to the 21st century needs.

I hope the busy spiritual seekers of this era would grab this opportunity and begin their practice with this concise prayer and experience the vast benefits of Dorje Shugden’s practice both on a secular and spiritual level.

Dear Rinpoche, thank you for this lovely and short and perfect prayer to Dorje Shugden. There is such depth behind each word of prayer, request and aspiration here. It trains us to focus outward, to surrender all our wishes and our problems to the wisdom of Manjushri Dorje Shugden, and to abide in faith in the Three Jewels and in love , kindness and care for all.

I have downloaded and started to recite this prayer and have urged others to do likewise.

  62. Lourdes Metz on Mar 9, 2015 at 9:49 pm

In reference the practice of Dorje Shugden, would I need a direct transmission and/or initiation?

I feel the need to cleanse my home from negative energies and misfortunes that we’ve been having lately.

We have neighbors who I may call energy vampires. They take away everything we do in our home to keep it cleansed from impurities and negativity, however, these neighbors are very negative, noise makers, and always fighting with each other causing loudness around and close to us. We can’t move because our lease will not expire until August of this year.

I have received initiation and transmission directly from HH Sakya Trizin on Vajrayogini and my question is, whom from them, Dorje Shugden and Vajrayogini, would be more powerful in guiding me and removing all these obstacles that we have at the moment?

    Please advise.

    In the Dharma,
    Lourdes Metz

    Dear Rinpoche,

The prayers is so beautiful. As Rinpoche mentioned, it does not have the graphic imagery of wrathful offerings or visualisation..so this prayers makes it easier to understanding without explanations.

Rinpoche’s love to Dorje Shugden and to Datin MJ can be seen in this wonderful short prayers.

Thank you for sharing with us.

Thank you Rinpoche! Such an inspiring prayer! In the NKT we are taught that Dorje Shugden is The Wisdom Buddha. Can you substitute Wisdom Buddha for unfamiliar terms like ‘Bhagavan’ when you recite this prayer?

    • tsemtulku on Mar 9, 2015 at 5:59 am

      Dear Mark O’Neil,

What you are taught in NKT is absolutely correct. Dorje Shugden is a Wisdom Buddha for sure.

All the great lamas of the past including Nyingma, Sakya and Gelug Lamas have all said Dorje Shugden is emanation of Avalokitesvara or Vajrapani and Manjushri. The point is he is all as he is enlightened. But all these great masters conclude he is one Buddha or another Buddha, which one does not matter in the end.

Many of our mantras, prayers, sadhanas are from the Sanskrit language directly or indirectly. The names of the Buddhas are also in Sanskrit for example Vajra Yogini. In this ancient Indian script Bhagawan would mean something supreme or supremely divine beings (An epithet for God, In Buddhism’s Pali scriptures, the term is used with Gautama Buddha, referring to him as Bhagavān Buddha (translated with the phrase ‘Lord Buddha’ or ‘The Blessed One’) The term Bhagavān is also found in other Theravadin, Mahayana and Tantric Buddhist texts. Bhagavān is generally translated as Lord or God. But not in a Judeo-Christian sense of God). Addressing Dorje Shugden as Bhagawan would mean he is a supremely high being (Buddha) and the highest of the high. It is honorific. Therefore it is an honorific title to Dorje Shugden from deep respect.

If you wish to substitute it with Wisdom Buddha, of course you may. Prayers are from the sincere heart and Dorje Shugden listens to sincerity more than words. 🙂

I wish you well. Tsem Rinpoche

  73. Christine Shanghai on Mar 6, 2015 at 4:15 pm

    Dear Rinpoche,

Thank you for sharing the short prayer to DS. I have saved it in my Kindle and printed out one copy for my office. Will pray daily.

I have a DS tsa tsa in office besides the Green Tara statue which was one of Rinpoche’s personal collection I invited a few years ago in KL. Everyday in office, I prepare a cup of black tea for DS and recite the mantra of DS and Green Tara. Many colleagues said my office is very cosy and comfortable. I believe it’s the positive energy DS and Tara brought in.

In daily work, we all have to face all kinds of situations, problem, good and bad. It doesn’t mean as long as I have put these Buddha statues in the office, there won’t be any trouble but only good news. That’s not true. But, whenever challenging situation comes, I pray that I can make the decision for the benefit for more people and for the long term. Even a current “bad” news could be the beginning of a good path in the near future. And so far all things worked out pretty good. I believe as long as we hold the right faith, DS and other Buddha will guide us and protect us and bring us the success that we need to benefit more people.

All these years we pray DS at home, things are only getting better. We have changed a lot and we are becoming better person every day. How can DS be evil? I believe my Guru and my Guru’s Guru…all these great masters. Isn’t that quite naive / silly to deny their practise / belief? Let’s be logical.

Thank you Rinpoche as always. Manjushri is a must for me I figure. It is like what you have said before that, Manjushri is more important than food. I will incorporate this prayer in my prayers.

  82. tsemtulku on Mar 6, 2015 at 5:28 am

    Dear sincere practitioners,

This is a recent composition I have done which is a daily short prayer to Dorje Shugden. It contains the Three Principle Paths and completion of the path but in modern terms and language. This prayer will not have the graphic imagery of wrathful offerings, wrathful sensory offerings and wrathful visualization as many new people may not understand. Tantric imagery and offerings require explanation. This prayer is necessary for today’s time and mode of thinking.

I hope we can get this into Chinese language very soon as there are many Chinese speaking people here in our region.

This prayer is something you can offer all new comers to recite daily combined with Black Tea (serkym) and mantra. Just this prayer and mantra would be effective too.

I hope this will benefit many. My motivation is to plant the seeds of Manjushri for now and the future to as many beings karmically ready as I can.

    Tsem Rinpoche

The concept of rebirth has a long association with Buddhism. Rebirth in Buddhism refers to the teaching that the actions of a sentient being lead to a new existence after death, in an endless cycle called saṃsāra. One will begins a new life in a new body that may be human, animal or spiritual depending on the moral quality of the previous life’s actions. What they are reborn as depends on their actions in their previous life rather kamma. As a Buddhist we should believe in rebirth but still many people don’t . Buddha taught us that choices of rebirth make a difference and can shape many lifetimes. Buddhists believe that nothing that exists is permanent and everything will ultimately cease to be. Against the odds two inspiring nuns fought all the way to become ordained, fighting for their rights to practice Buddhism . Interesting read of how they went through , bringing equality for women in Thailand. Buddhism is the predominant religion in Thailand. Officially, only men can become monks and novices in Thailand under a Buddhist order. The country does not recognize female monks or novices. In recent years, more Thai Buddhist women seeking to become full-fledged female monks, have been defying the tradition getting ordained overseas, in Sri Lanka or India. Buddhist women have been fighting for years for equality and social acceptance in Thailand. They just can’t be ordained by Thai monks. Ven. Dhammananda, 68 year old former university lecturer and activist became Thailand’s first Theravadin bhikkhuni after going the odds. Inspiring read biography on Ven. Dhammananda and Ven. Dr. Lee. They had gone through great hardships, discrimination and against the many odds in bringing equality to women in Buddhism in Thailand.

The unseen things are spiritual realities that are eternal and invisible to our physical eye. There are many forces and phenomena that are not visible to the naked eye. There are many things that humans cannot see yet there are some could see. For what is can be seen is only. Things do exist even we can’t see, believing their existence is our choice. Things that we can’t see in the world opens up a curiosity and exploration by some. Whether through scientific inquiry, or spiritual exploration, the pursuit of knowledge about the unseen can lead to profound insights about ourselves and the universe.
Malacca City is the historic capital of the coastal state of Malacca, in Malaysia serving as a link between east and west for over 500 years. Famous for breath-taking sights with rich heritage, ancient dark culture and history with many old centuries buildings with an interesting past and a colourful ghost story. For that reason alone it is worth visiting as is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site owing to its well-preserved historical center. There’s many historical mansions been passed down generation to generations and with many ghostly sighting by the locals and visitors. There’s the reason many unseen beings loitering and attached to these places. Such an interesting and incredibly creepy watching the video in this blog host by Li Kim. Li Kim had done a great work all along with her team to share with readers about our historic Malacca .

Vajrayogini symbolizes the wisdom of all enlightened beings and embodies the impulse of inspiration that drives the Buddhas to attain the perfect enlightenment. Vajrayogini is one of the most effective practices for people today. We can make offerings such as gold or jewel offerings and so on. The offering of gold helps us to collect merits, spiritual attainments, gain a deeper connection to Vajrayogini. It also creates the causes to attain a Buddha’s body.
Make Offerings to Vajrayogini in Kechara Forest Retreat at Bentong is such an meritorious way for us to collect merits. All thanks to our Guru having conceptualised the idea of having a statue of Vajrayogini for everyone . Recitation of Vajrayogini mantra can be a powerful tool for self-transformation, healing and liberation from samsara.

Thank you, Rinpoche for sharing this insightful article. Life is short, and if we enjoy every moment of every day, then we will be happy no matter what happens or what changes along the way. What ever matter to us at the time of death is nothing. In the end, it’s not the years in our life that count it’s what you leave behind that matters. A great soul never dies. It brings us together again and again.Death is the golden key that opens the palace of eternity. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time. Learning Dharma and practicing dharma is the our choice that’s matter. Some of the key points to take notes, read, study the Lam Rim and apply it, engage in Sadhana daily and consistently. No one will help us at the moment of death but ourselves. Spiritual practicing is the best choice.

Well the size of Buddha statues in Tibetan Buddhism is important because it represents the Buddha’s immense ability and vast knowledge. Hence the Buddha statues hold the symbol of satisfaction within, peace and happiness. They are a symbol of inspiration for every human being. When we focus on the Buddha statues, it gives us inner peace that our mind, our heart and our soul gets enlightened.
We have are so fortunate seeing and circumambulating where the 9-foot Dorje Shugden statue and with 500 mantra stones engraved with Dorje Shugden’s sacred mantra. As Rinpoche had said before the bigger and more Buddha statues helps in planting seeds of enlightenment in people’s mind-streams. It also help us to generate as much merit and purify as much karma as possible. Merely by seeing all those big statues at Kechara Forest Retreat is a blessing.
    Thank you Rinpoche.

The 4th Tagpu Pemavajra Jampel Tenpai Ngodrub, most commonly known as Tagpu Dorje Chang, was a highly accomplished yogi Highly attained lama who had many authentic visions of the Buddhas and even travel astrally to receive direct teachings from them. His recognised line of incarnations stem all the way back to the 14th Century. He is generally regarded as such amongst Gelug lineage holders. He spent most of his time in a hermitage located above Sera Monastery, gave teachings and transmitted many vital practices and lineages to his foremost student Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche. Besides receiving the complete instructions of Dorje Shugden’s practice, Tagpu Dorje Chang had many other mystical experiences throughout his lifetime. n Tibetan culture, it is a popular and customary practice for families to invite monks to perform spiritual ceremonies such as Trusol rituals. The monks have had the opportunity to offer such ceremonies for individuals or their families. Such ceremonies purify the elements of the environment which helps those living or visiting there to experience good health, success and well-being. The sacred ritual of ‘bathing’ the Buddhas and consecration through which negativities, sicknesses and obstacles will be cleared. Where by filling those areas with positive energies and good vibes through this Trusol consecration puja. Water is an essential part of this puja and symbolises the cleansing of all negativities and impurities. Through this puja it also pacifies local deities and other unseen beings in the surrounding areas. We are indeed fortunate that Tsem Rinpoche has taught Kecharians this practice and it has benefited many.

Reading this post had me gain some knowledge of Shifter Werewolves. Any article regarding rare creatures or paranormal articles are of my interest since young. In European folklore, a werewolf is a man who turns into a wolf at night and devours animals, people, or corpses but returns to human form by day. They have the ability to transform from an ordinary human appearance to a partially-lupine form with pointed ears, mutton chops, claws and fangs, and a ridged brow . Wow… werewolf tends to be vicious and unable to control his blood thirst. Their underlying common origin can be traced back to Proto-Indo-European mythology. In many depictions, these bloodthirsty beasts are evil where they kill animals and innocent people. They are humans who transition into wolf-like creatures, after being placed under a curse. In folklore, most werewolves originate from being cursed or bitten by another werewolf. That’s what they do believe. According many enthusiasts, there’s many different type of werewolves such as Alpha wolves, Beta wolves , Deltas, Elders, some survive as loners while others move in packs. How true it is no one knows. I do believe their existing . Many interesting stories related to these wolves in the past history.

Beautiful Dorje Shugden at Malacca. One should pay a visit there, located at a busy tourist place. It was such an auspicious occasion that a grand Puja was held there. Dedicated students and volunteers were there getting the place ready for the grand puja. Well the Grand Dorje Shugden puja was conducted by very own Kechara puja team to commemorate the chapel’s 3rd anniversary. Many people attended the Puja that’s wonderful to receive the powerful Protector Dorje Shugden blessings. More people will make a connection and get to know Manjushri, the Buddha of Wisdom, in the form of a Dharma Protector. May Dorje Shugden’s practice flourish to benefit those tourists and locals.

Venerable Geshe Rabten Rinpoche is a highly realised meditation master known as a debater, scholar, and meditation master, was the first Tibetan Buddhist master to introduce the complete Vinaya-tradition. He had also introduce the study of the five major topics of Buddhism to the West. He became the ‘path breaker’ of the complete and complex teachings of Buddhism in the West. Many masters, who are famous in the West today, were Geshe’s students. enerable Geshe Rabten. Geshe Rabten wrote the beautiful and Manjushri’s prayer called Gangloma and gave a profound explanation. We are so fortunate to learn about this Manjushri’s sacred prayer. May all be blessed by the practice of Lord Manjushri and Geshe Rabten’s explanation.

The begging bowl or alms bowl is one of the simplest but most important objects in the daily lives of Theravada Buddhist monks. The alms bowl still stands as an emblem of how all Buddhas, as numerous as grains of sand in the Ganges, practiced to end their desire. All those who receive the alms bowl should focus their mind to act with self-control and self-respect. Almsgiving is a tradition of Theravada Buddhists, majority in Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Laos. In those early days of Buddhism, monks would take their bowls and go out begging for food. As today in Thailand one could see monks woke up before dawn every morning and carried his bowl through the roads or paths wherever he was staying. Local people would place food in the bowl as a donation, through the generosity of lay people. They accept whatever food is offered for them and eat whatever been given, serve as a blessing for the giver.
One bowl has held the food of a thousand families. A solitary monastic travels on his journey of a hundred thousand miles seeking liberation from the cycle of birth and death.
Thank you H.E. Tsem Rinpoche for explaining the meaning of begging and gave us more reasons to be vegetarian . Create a awareness among us not killing animals to be one.

Ajahn Siripanyo, the son of billionaire Ananda Krishnan, chose to abandon his inheritance and become a Buddhist monk in pursuit of spirituality. A Thai-Malaysian monk born in London and educated in UK. He was ordained in Thailand and lived there, leaving behind a life of immense wealth and privilege. He did surprised many and his choice was unexpected. Initially as a temporary measure, but somehow later evolved into a permanent way of life. Ven. Ajahn Siripanyo is now the Abbot of hermitage Dtao Dam on the Thai-Burmese border in Saiyok National Park, Thailand.
He was in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia years back giving an enthralling Dhamma talk on the timeless teachings of Ajahn Chah.
Thank you Rinpoche for this inspiring sharing.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.
~Tsem Rinpoche

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
