Possessed, a NEW Kechara Comic
It was mid-morning in Kechara Forest Retreat when H.E. Tsem Rinpoche called a few of us into his room. When we were seated before him, Rinpoche began to share some stories from his childhood in New Jersey. One of Rinpoche’s fondest memories from that time was of going out with his adoptive mother to buy comics from the local store, then reading them together afterwards.
In the hours that followed, Rinpoche went on to tell us about a later part of his life when he entered Gaden Monastery in India. While he was there, Rinpoche saw how comics could tell the complex stories of Hindu divinities in a manner that was both easy for young children to understand and also very enjoyable for adults. At this juncture, Rinpoche began handing out many colourful comic books from Amar Chitra Katha, his favourite Indian comics publisher, to show us what he meant.
As those who were fortunate enough to spend some time with Rinpoche will know, Rinpoche was passionate about many things – from Star Trek and Bigfoot to feeding the hungry and helping the less fortunate, and even creative architecture and landscaping. But most of all, Rinpoche was passionate about the Buddhadharma. In his all-too-short life, Rinpoche brought the Buddha’s teachings to places where it had yet to bloom, and made it accessible to millions more by pioneering the use of the Internet to propagate the Dharma.
The secret to Rinpoche’s success was the Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden, and Rinpoche’s faith and reliance on this enlightened guardian deity was nothing short of legendary.
This brings us back to that wonderful morning in Rinpoche’s room, now filled with dozens of Amar Chitra Katha comics being passed around. Rinpoche also shared many stories of how Dorje Shugden had helped people to overcome their challenges in life. These amazing stories were the inspiration for Kechara Comics’ Karuna Finds A Way, The Great Escape and Into The Light.
Possessed is the latest title from Kechara Comics, as told to us by Rinpoche that morning, nearly a year ago in his room. It is a riveting tale of black magic as experienced by the Krishna family, set in the old tin mining capital of Ipoh in the state of Perak, Malaysia.
The use of black magic as a weapon has become increasingly popular as the world becomes more competitive and the stakes become higher. In fact, many of our members in Kechara reach out to us for help and protection from dark sorcery, usually sent by rivals wanting to get ahead, or as an instrument of revenge.
Black magic spells can be cast remotely without any indication of who it came from, or why. These supernatural attacks have been known to wreak havoc on people’s careers and destroy their lives, both materially and emotionally.
Possessed shows the devastating effect of black magic use, not only on the victim but also on the entire family and household. Fortunately, unlike many who did not survive such attacks, the Krishnas discover the powerful deity Dorje Shugden just in time.
Dorje Shugden is an avatar of Manjushri — the Buddha of Wisdom — who resides in the godly realm of the Devas. As the world of the gods is close to the human realm, Dorje Shugden in the form of a worldly god can come to us and dispense aid in the swiftest way imaginable. In Indian culture, Dorje Shugden is Vajra Rudra — the son of enlightened Ganesha. He is a powerful Bhagavan who removes all obstructions and grants all wishes.
So, how did Dorje Shugden save the Krishnas? The answer is found in Possessed. Read the full comic book below or download the PDF to read at your leisure.
