14th-Dalai-Lama-Domo-TIBET-1951
(By Tsem Rinpoche)

His Holiness the Dalai Lama is considered the incarnation of the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara and therefore he is an enlightened being. The mindstream of an enlightened being remains the same regardless of whether he is 10 years old or 70 years old. His spiritual attainments and state of enlightenment cannot degenerate at any age, over time or indeed over lifetimes (incarnations). Therefore, it is common for a special being like His Holiness the Dalai Lama to demonstrate close affinity to what his past incarnations liked and did.

For example, His Holiness the Dalai Lama composed a very powerful prayer to Dorje Shugden many years ago. It reflects the close relationship his past incarnation as the 5th Dalai Lama had with his Dharma brother, Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen who arose as the Protector Dorje Shugden after his murder. His Holiness the Dalai Lama worshipped Dorje Shugden for decades, consulted the oracles of Dorje Shugden and as we have seen, even composed a very powerful liturgy to Dorje Shugden, showcasing their closeness.

As a highly realised being His Holiness the Dalai Lama can easily see through anyone including Dorje Shugden, and he can discern whether the Protector is a superior being or negative being from the very first time they ‘met’. This ability is common in highly attained beings and inherent in enlightened beings such as His Holiness the Dalai Lama. And what the Dalai Lama saw in Dorje Shugden was reflected in the way he regarded the deity as a superior being. To say otherwise would undermine His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s enlightened state. This power however, is not exclusive to the Dalai Lama; any highly realised being can immediately see the true nature of the formless beings they encounter and this ability is not mutable.

In 1951, before His Holiness the Dalai Lama entered into exile in India, he visited Dungkar Monastery, the seat of Domo Geshe Rinpoche, in the Chumbi Valley. This valley is located near the southern Tibetan border with Sikkim and Bhutan. It was there that he encountered the oracle of Dorje Shugden, who was trained and authorised by Domo Geshe Rinpoche who was a highly attained lama himself. In fact His Holiness the 13th Dalai Lama regarded Domo Geshe Rinpoche as an emanation of Lama Tsongkhapa. It was this holy being who trained the oracle, allowing Dorje Shugden to communicate with practitioners.

From historical records of the previous Domo Geshe Rinpoches, it is clear that he had been worshipping Dorje Shugden throughout many incarnations. The fact that Domo Geshe Rinpoche’s incarnations never went wrong and did not lose their attainments and fall to the three lower realms but instead remained very powerful lamas who benefited countless sentient beings is a testament to his Protector, Dorje Shugden.

This clearly demonstrates that Dorje Shugden has been worshipped and has had close relationships with highly attained and enlightened beings, any one of whom could easily have seen though Dorje Shugden if he had been anything but an enlightened Protector. Following his experience with Dorje Shugden via Domo Geshe Rinpoche’s oracle, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama was moved to compose a praise to Dorje Shugden while at Dungkar Monastery. He did so because he was impressed with the answers that Dorje Shugden gave during the trance and the Protector’s level of clairvoyance. This prayer also came about due to the requests and offerings made by the monks and scholars at the monastery.

This prayer is excellent to recite daily or when one is in need of divine help. You can see in the prayer that His Holiness the Dalai Lama enthrones Dorje Shugden as the “supreme collected nature of all Gurus and Protective Deities” and requests to grant siddhis (attainments). Ordinary spirits cannot grant siddhis so therefore in this prayer, His Holiness recognises Dorje Shugden as a superior being, embodying the gurus and protective deities, who can grant the two types of siddhis – ordinary and extra-ordinary siddhis. In the ultimate analysis His Holiness the Dalai Lama is without doubt an enlightened being that surely cannot be tricked by a spirit.

A Propitiation of Mighty Gyalchen Dorje Shugden, Protector of Conqueror Manjusri Tsongkhapa’s Teachings

By the Supreme Victor, the Great 14th Dalai Lama

HUM
Glory of the wisdom, compassion and power of infinite Buddhas
Miraculously powerful protector of Manjusri Tsongkhapa’s Teachings
Arisen as a lord of all wrathful worldly hosts
Come from the abodes of Tushita, Kechara (Paradise or pure land), and so forth!

Prostrating with devotion of body, speech, and mind
I confess all mistakes and faults in which
Out of delusion, I have contradicted your holy mind:
Accept with forbearance and show your smiling face!

Arising from the sport of non-dual bliss and void
Are offerings and torma of flesh and blood heaped like a mountain
First portions of milk, yogurt, beer and tea swirling like the ocean
Auspicious signs and substances and various animals
Peaceful and wrathful ornaments, enemy-destroying weapons and armor
Amassed samaya substances, outer, inner, and secret, without exception!

Having fulfilled your heart commitment and purified degeneration
By making these actually arranged and visualized offerings
Increase Lozang the Victorious One’s Teachings
And the life span and activities of the Teachings’ upholders!
Further the happiness of beings in the Gaden [Podrang] dominion!

Especially pacify all harm to us, the yogis and entourages
That arises because of previous karma and immediate conditions
And spontaneously accomplish, just as we wish
All good things, both spiritual and temporal!

Grind to dust without remainder
Enemy hordes that think and act perversely
Towards the teachings and lay and ordained people
With potent, accurate, powerful great vajra fire!

Especially, cause the saffron-clad community of Dungkar Monastery
Brightly beautiful in bonds of pure morality
To soar the path of immortal liberation
On unified wings of Sutra and Tantra!

In brief, we enthrone you, O Deity, as the supreme
Collected nature of all Gurus and Protective Deities!
From densely gathered clouds of the four activities
Pour down a cool rain of the two siddhis!

This, A Propitiation of Mighty Gyalchen Dorje Shugden, Protector of Conqueror Manjusri Tsongkhapa’s Teachings, entitled Melody of the Unceasing Vajra ’s composition was urged, not only by the vajra prophecy of the great emanated Dharmapala himself, but also on behalf of the general community by the master of the Dungkar Dratsang and all of its officers, with offerings. Accordingly, the one called Holder Of The White Lotus, Bearer of the Buddhadharma, Ngawang Losang Tenzin Gyatso Sisum Wangyur Tsungpa Mepa De (14th Dalai Lama) composed it at Dungkar Monastery with spontaneous auspiciousness.

All benefit and bliss! Siddhi Rastu

Domo Geshe Rinpoche, at whose Dungkar Monastery His Holiness composed these inspiring verses, was one of the greatest Mahasiddhas in Tibetan history. A greater example of saintliness with an all-encompassing compassion would be hard to find. Kyabje Trijang Dorje Chang said of him, “We are exactly the same”, and Domo Geshe placed his Monasteries in Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche’s care before he passed on. The 13th Dalai Lama praised Domo Geshe Rinpoche as Je Tsongkhapa incarnate. Both the 13th and the 14th Dalai Lama praised Dungkar Monastery’s oracle, through which they obtained very valuable advice in difficult times.

This prayer shows beyond the shadow of a doubt the enlightened origin and the “holy mind” of the King Protector as seen by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. No “ghost” can come from Tushita and Kechara, Maitreya and Vajrayogini’s pureland. No “ghost” can cause you to “soar the path of immortal liberation on unified wings of Sutra and Tantra”!

This is the last picture of the His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama taken in Tibet prior to the cultural revolution. The year was 1951, His Holiness Dalai Lama was at Dungkar Gonpa (Dungkar Monastery), in the Chumbi Valley near the southern Tibetan border with Sikkim and Bhutan, poised for a possible flight to India.

Surrounded by many of his entourage and the Kalon who fled with him, His Holiness blesses a golden urn containing sacred relics of Gautama Buddha, which the Maha Bodhi Society of Sri Lanka has brought for him to sanctify. It was here at Dungkar Monastery of Domo Geshe Rinpoche that, His Holiness the Dalai Lama composed the prayer to Dorje Shugden.

After Domo Geshe Rinpoche the founder passed away in 1936, the Dungkar Monastery’s administration requested the central Tibetan government for permission to embalm his body. Although only the bodies of the Dalai Lamas and the Panchen Lamas were customarily embalmed and sealed in large stupas, the request was granted. The Regent Reting Rinpoche’s decree read, “In Southern Tibet, including Sikkim, etc., Domo Geshe Rinpoche’s activities were exactly like those of Je Tsong Khapa. In accordance, we will allow Rinpoche’s body to be preserved.” The holy stupa was consecrated in 1938 by Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche Dorje Chang and remained an object of veneration until it, along with the entire Dungkar Monastery, was destroyed in the Cultural Revolution.

Under the direction of Domo Geshe Rinpoche, Dungkar Monastery became the seat of the famous and respected Dorje Shugden oracle who was consulted by people from all over Tibet. At the crossroads between India and Tibet, Dungkar Monastery also became known as a stopping place for most Tibetan and foreign dignitaries who were on their way to and from Lhasa. Thus, Dungkar Monastery was open to international contact in a way that was unusual for Tibet at that time.

When His Holiness the 13th Dalai Lama returned from India in 1912 he stopped in the Domo area, and a meeting took place between His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Domo Geshe Rinpoche at Kangyur Lhakang in Galingkang. One morning His Holiness mentioned to his attendants that he expected a very special visitor that afternoon. That day Domo Geshe Rinpoche, who always looked like a simple monk, brought special delicacies to offer to His Holiness and spent a long time in private talks with him. In the evening, His Holiness asked his attendants if they had seen the very special person who had visited him in the afternoon. They said that they had only seen a monk in tattered robes. His Holiness replied, “That is too bad. I saw Je Tsong Khapa himself.”

Many years later, in the 1950s, the Dungkar Monastery twice hosted His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and his government for extended periods of time. It was during these visits, the prayer to Dorje Shugden was composed by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.

This is the famous oracle of Dorje Shugden in Dungkar Monastery in full trance of the wrathful form of Dorje Shugden. Due to the blessings of Domo Geshe Rinpoche, this oracle was famous for his clear prophecies. People from all over Tibet, Mongolia and North India would travel to Dungkar Monastery to consult Dorje Shugden. Domo Geshe Rinpoche was a very devoted practitioner of Dorje Shugden, Tsongkapa, Vajra Yogini and Guru Rinpoche Padmasambhava. There were no conflicts. His Holiness the Dalai Lama consulted this famous oracle of Dorje Shugden while staying in Dungkar Monastery. Because the words from Dorje Shugden were clear and concise and accurate, the Dalai Lama developed great respect for Dorje Shugden and composed the special prayer.

This is the same oracle monk taking trance of the peaceful Dorje Shugden in Dungkar Monastery. When Dorje Shugden took trance in peaceful form, he can remain in the body of the oracle longer and speak more. In the wrathful form, the stay will not be long. Dulzin Dorje Shugden in peaceful form always wears the robes of a monk and pandit’s hat. Dorje Shugden’s previous lives as Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen, Dulzin Drakpa Gyeltsen etc. were great scholar-monks hence in peaceful form he dones the robes of a monk and the pandit’s hat of a scholar.

In this form of trance, Dorje Shugden can give extensive Dharma talks lasting many hours quoting from scriptures without looking at any texts, do extensive rituals and even confer initiation. Even if the oracle monk out of trance was not learned, in trance of Shugden, he will be different and display the persona and knowledge of a high scholar. The oracular prophecies of Dorje Shugden were highly sought after whether in the wrathful or peaceful forms. This oracle was specially blessed and created by Domo Geshe Rinpoche in Dungkar Monastery.

How Dorje Shugden helped His Holiness escape Tibet

Thousands of people gathered in front of the Potala Palace in 1959, shortly before the invasion of Lhasa.

Thousands of people gathered in front of the Potala Palace in 1959, shortly before the invasion of Lhasa.

The close relationship between His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Dorje Shugden is again evident in the events leading up to His Holiness’ escaping Tibet in 1959. In fact Dorje Shugden assisted His Holiness’ escape by providing safe journey, supernatural protection and clearing obstacles that could have endangered his life.

This is made clear in handwritten documents by Lobsang Yeshe, a changtso from Sera Mey Monastery’s Pomra Khangtsen or fraternity. A changtso is a lama’s main attendant and someone that handles the lama’s administrative matters. He served Kensur Ngawang Dakpa Rinpoche, his biological brother and the then-Abbot of Sera Mey Monastery.

Kensur Ngawang Dakpa Rinpoche was authorised by Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche to be in charge of a team of lamas and monks who were to consult with Dorje Shugden regarding the safety of the Dalai Lama during the rising tensions with Chinese forces in Tibet. His Holiness had in fact asked Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche to consult with Dorje Shugden on this issue, as Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche mentions in his text ‘The Illusory Play’. However, Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche himself was closely monitored by the Chinese as a high-ranking lama and junior tutor to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.

To make matters worse, Kensur Ngawang Dakpa Rinpoche was also closely monitored, so he chose Changtso Lobsang Yeshe as the main contact who would consult Dorje Shugden, via the 6th Panglung Oracle, regarding this issue.

On March 10, 1959 Changtso Lobsang Yeshe had an audience with Dorje Shugden who advised that it was imperative that His Holiness leave Tibet as soon as possible. At the time a plot had been uncovered that the Chinese military forces in Tibet were planning to arrest and imprison His Holiness and other high lamas. It was Dorje Shugden who provided the means for His Holiness’ escape, and with that the Buddhadharma and the hopes of the Tibetan people.

During the same trance session, Dorje Shugden gave Changtso Lobsang Yeshe some blessed protector rice. He also gave instructions that if they faced danger during His Holiness’ escape, they should burn the protector rice and Dorje Shugden would help them overcome the obstacle. Dorje Shugden bestowed a pudri which was to be given to Kensur Ngawang Dakpa Rinpoche. A pudri is a sort of bracelet worn by the oracles. It has a specific design of three eyes on it. This was to ensure that His Holiness and his retinue were kept safe during their escape. Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche personally selected the monks from Pomra Khangtsen of Sera Monastery who were to accompany and protect His Holiness in his journey.

In another document, Changtso Lobsang Yeshe recounts another incident in which Dorje Shugden helped His Holiness escape Tibet by selecting the route that he should take. Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche had authorised Ratoe Chowar Rinpoche to seek Dorje Shugden’s advice on this same matter. During the trance Dorje Shugden shot three arrows to the south, which indicated that His Holiness should take the southern route out of Tibet. Dorje Shugden also bestowed a ceremonial sword to Ratoe Chowar Rinpoche with the instruction that the sword was to be waved in the direction of the escape route three times by a man named Dorjee, and if done then the escape would be successful. Dorjee was also to hold up the sword riding at the front of the party during their escape. This would ensure that the escape to India was successful.

Following the advice and protection offered by Dorje Shugden via the 6th Panglung Oracle, His Holiness the Dalai Lama and his retinue began their secret journey out of Tibet on March 16, 1959. After a gruelling 15-day journey from Lhasa, they finally crossed over the Indian border into exile on March 31. It was due to Dorje Shugden prophecies, advice and protection that His Holiness was safely able to enter exile and from there spread the Buddhist teachings all over the world, benefiting so many sentient beings. We can clearly see that His Holiness and Dorje Shugden have a very strong connection with each other and that is spans across many lifetimes.

Addendum

On June 21, 2015 the Kechara organisation had the privilege and tremendous merit to witness the auspicious trance of Dorje Shugden in Wisdom Hall, Kechara Forest Retreat. Kechara was fortunate to host the 7th Panglung Oracle for this event, who took trance of both Dorje Shugden and Kache Marpo, bestowing blessings and giving advice to all those gathered. The 7th Panglung Oracle, affectionately known as Chojela, is the son and spiritual heir of the famous 6th Panglung oracle.

6thPanglungOracle

This is a picture of the previous (6th) Panglung Oracle. Just like the current Panglung Oracle, he was able to take trance of Dorje Shugden, Setrap, Kache Marpo and various other high level Protectors. The 6th Panglung Oracle was very famous in Tibet for giving extremely clear prophecies that were highly accurate and sought by many. In fact, Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche consulted Dorje Shugden through the 6th Panglung Oracle in 1959 on whether the Dalai Lama should flee Tibet or remain behind. Dorje Shugden rose from his throne and performed a vajra dance to clear the obstacles of the Dalai Lama. He then handed over his sword and instructed that the Dalai Lama should leave Tibet immediately and that the escape party should carry the sword at the head of the party for a safe and successful escape.

It was also the 6th Panglung Oracle in trance of Dorje Shugden who instructed a band of Khampa warriors to form the Chushi Gangdruk guerrilla army and identified the exact location for their headquarters. This transpired a few years prior to the Dalai Lama’s escape from Tibet. It was part of Dorje Shugden’s master plan to have these ferocious warriors trained and gathered, ready to escort the Dalai Lama safely out of Tibet. Furthermore, the Chushi Gangdruk’s headquarters was located along the Dalai Lama’s eventual escape route, the only safe route out of Tibet at the time. In other words, Dorje Shugden literally saved the life of the Dalai Lama via the 6th Panglung Oracle and had set into motion plans for this long before Tibet’s political troubles really begun.

Divination (‘mo’) Text by Dorje Shugden

This is an important divination (‘mo’) text composed by Dorje Shugden himself. Dorje Shugden took trance of the Choyang Dulzin oracle lama, the senior oracle of Gaden Shartse Monastery, and instantly on the spot composed this text within two hours.

The divination text contains information on how to use dice to do divination for the future and is known to be highly accurate. When practitioners use this text, they will be in direct contact with Dorje Shugden to get answers to questions about the future. It is for those who have good samaya with Dorje Shugden and are free of the eight worldly dharmas to be of benefit to others in divining the future.

Thank you so much for this article. This article is mainly about the fourteenth Dalai Lama and Dorje Shugden. By reading this article, i get to know that His Holiness, Dalai Lama, is considered the incarnation of the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara, so he is an enlightened being.

So spiritual attainments and state of enlightenment cannot degenerate at any age, over time or indeed over lifetimes. Therefore, it is common for a special being like the Dalai Lama to demonstrate close affinity to what his past incarnations liked and did.

  2. Samfoonheei on Jun 30, 2019 at 12:16 pm

HH the Dalai Lama is considered to be the incarnation of the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara and he is an enlightened being . H H the Dalai Lama also wrote a prayer to Dorje Shugden long before the ban on Dorje Shugden. If Dorje Shugden is an evil spirit, HH Dalai Lama will surely know.
It has proven that centuries ago , many high lamas and H.H Dalai Lama has propitiated and relied on Dorje Shugden . They cannot be wrong after all. The 5th Dalai Lama wrote a prayer texts to Dorje Shugden and established Trode Khangsar for Dorje Shugden, after realising Dorje Shugden was an enlightened Dharma protector.
In fact Dorje Shugden has assisted HH Dalai Lama in his escape during the Chinese invasion in 1959. Here again it has proven HH Dalai Lama has a strong connection with Dorje Shugden and has relied on him for a safe journey out Tibet. Interesting read.
May the ban on Dorje Shugden be lifted soon and Dorje Shugden’s practice spread to all corners across the globe.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama wrote a prayer to Dorje Shugden way before he banned the practice. The reason that was given is that he did not realize the true nature of Dorje Shugden. That is not logical at all.

His Holiness is the emanation of Buddha of Compassion, Chenrezig and everyone know it. How can a Buddha be fooled by a spirit and the Buddha actually wrote a prayer to the spirit? Those who actually believed this reason is belittling His Holiness’s attainments.

There is no way for His Holiness to be fooled by Dorje Shugden and that is why this move by His Holiness is not logical at all. If a spirit can fool a Buddha, why are we taking refuge in the Buddha? His Holiness must have his own reason for this and we should have faith in His Holiness especially during this time.

The Dalai Lama is said to be the emanation of Chenrezig, the Buddha of Compassion. As a Buddha he has only one mission in his life, i.e. to liberate all sentient beings from sufferings. The Dalai Lama is full of wisdom, therefore he has attracted many followers.

The 14th Dalai Lama who is against the Dorje Shugden practice wrote a praise to Dorje Shugden before, this is very nice to know. The Dalai Lama propitiated Dorje Shugden in his early days. It was until 20 years ago, he announced that he has made a mistake to pray to Dorje Shugden and that Dorje Shugden is actually an evil spirit. The question is, how can a highly attained being make a mistake when he has the power to see the true nature of all sentient beings?

In fact, when a highly attained being makes a mistake, it is done deliberately for a higher purpose. His Holiness Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche said before when the Dalai Lama and Dorje Shugden seem to be against each other, we should not lose faith in either of them. Because Dorje Shugden followers are ‘outcast’ by the Dalai Lama, the Chinese government feels very safe to allow Dorje Shugden Lamas to spread Buddhist teachings. This is how the Dalai Lama helps to revive Buddhism in China even when he is not in China. If the Dalai Lama can manifest a mistake for propitiating Dorje Shugden, he can also later say he makes a mistake for saying Dorje Shugden is an evil spirit.

  8. Peter on Mar 26, 2019 at 1:59 am

Dalai Lama cannot be harmed by any spirits, no matter how powerful the spirit is, Dalai Lama won’t be harmed because he is the emanation of Chenrezig, a Buddha cannot be harmed, same goes to Dorje Shugden, no matter how powerful the High Lama is, no one Lama in this world can subdue Dorje Shugden, because he is the emanation of Manjushri, a Buddha cannot be subdued.

The unique relationship between Dalai Lama and Dorje Shugden has started since many lifetimes ago, they are studying under the same guru, they practice the same Dharma, and they have been assisting each other to spread the Dharma lifetime after lifetime.

During the most important moment in Dalai Lama’s life, Dorje Shugden gave him advice and Dalai Lama successfully flee from Tibet to India, if without Dorje Shugden help, Dalai Lama could not have spread the Dharma like what he has done today. And After Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen was mudered, when everyone thought he was killed and became a spirit, Dalai Lama wrote a praise to Dorje Shugden to confirmed he is a great protector. So to say they are harming each other, that is not possible.

    Dear friends,

Tibet has produced many powerful meditations, rituals and guidelines to help us gain spiritual protection, gain wisdom and higher states of consciousness. In general Tibet has produced many powerful methods for the growth of our spiritual evolution. Dorje Shugden is an angel, a saint, a powerful spiritual protector-warrior who originated 350 years ago when a highly awakened Tibetan Lama fulfilled his vows to become a special being to grant protection, wisdom, material needs, safety when travelling (normal and astral travel) and spiritual awakening. Both the Great 5th Dalai Lama and the current His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama composed short yet effective prayers to invoke upon the power and blessings of this special saint and protector. One can recite either one of the prayers that you feel suits you, anytime or even daily. When you feel a special need for help, you can recite either prayer anytime. When you are feeling down, afraid or just need a blessing, you can recite them. After reciting either invocation, it is good to chant the mantra of Dorje Shugden: Om Benza Wiki Bitana Soha.

You do not have to be a Buddhist or practitioner of any religion to invoke upon the blessings and protection of this special enlightened and awakened angel Dorje Shugden. He helps all without discrimination or bias as he is filled with compassion and love. Divinity has no boundaries, they help all who call upon them.

Enclosed are the prayers in English, Chinese and Tibetan.

May you be safe, protected and blessed.

A Daily Request for Wealth, Peace and Protection

    Composed by H.E. Tsem Rinpoche

In the heavens there are myriad manifestations of the divine. All those manifestations specifically show us different aspects of divinity in order to be of benefit to all living beings. All the rupakaya forms of the divine have compassion, skillful means and wisdom. We invoke upon them whether we are happy, sad, down, lost, fulfilled, confused, empty, and during the whole range of emotions we constantly experience due to an untrained mind.

Understanding our nature, Great Wisdom Being Dorje Shugden, therefore all the more so, please hold us close to your bosom as an only child to a parent.

Though the manifestations of the divine need no offerings and gifts from us, we offer you supreme Manjushri Dorje Shugden a libation of tea, incense and mantras, in order to ask you to bless us, to be a part of our lives, to abide in our dwellings and to give us signs, omens and portents of both good and bad. When the negative arises, quell them immediately. Please increase the positive for my weary and worn mind as I lay my hopes in you.

When difficulties, problems and confusion arise, we ask you, who is but the culmination of all that is powerful, holy and omniscient to bless myself, family, loved ones, environment and even my pets. May I see wisdom, find hope, and be at peace.

I request you, O Divine Bhagavān Dorje Shugden, who wears a round dome hat and the three robes of a saffroned bhikshu, who wields a sword of liberty, justice and wisdom and clutches a wish-fulfilling jewel, who rides on a supreme lion of subjugation of all that is negative, to fulfill my wishes. I understand my wishes may not be the best, so I surrender to your wisdom for the outcome though it may not be what I have in mind. Please bless myself and everyone that we may enter into the supreme city of liberation.

Great Bhagavān Dorje Shugden, I request you sincerely from my heart to be a part of my life, bless my home, and grant me wisdom, solace and comfort, that I might be of service to others without agenda, and that I may focus out onto others and not be fixated on myself, creating more problems for all that I hold dear.

Bless me to become kinder, wiser, more compassionate, tolerant and very forgiving to all those who hurt and love me. In order to become close to you, Dorje Shugden, we must surrender the banal. We must abandon fixed views, projections and rigidity. Lastly, in my final moment when I leave this plane of existence, only the positive actions I have done will matter as everything and everyone will be left behind. Let me realise this and act upon this now! At this crucial moment, please may I have a vision of yourself, the powerful and merciful Dorje Shugden, to take me to where I may course in the sky to continue my journey of spiritual waxing.

I offer you saffron-coloured tea and my faith to fulfill my prayers and gain siddhis. By reciting your mantra, may healing, peace, love, long life, protection and perfect view of sunyata arise.

Mantra of fulfillment, peace and wisdom:

    OM BENZA WIKI BITANA SOHA

(It is good to recite this mantra daily as much as you like or your timing allows.)

I dedicate this supreme heartfelt prayer to the all-knowing Celestial and Supreme Protector Dorje Shugden, that I may quickly become a being of light, compassion, love and enlightenment.

Please play the audio included here to follow along with the prayer.

His Holiness the 10th Panchen Lama

Tibetans commonly refer to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and His Holiness 10th Panchen Lama as the “sun and moon” of Tibetan Buddhism. They are the center of Tibetan Buddhist civilization, which draws to its sphere of influence millions of non-Tibetan practitioners. The Panchen Lama’s incarnation line began with the 16th abbot of Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, Lobsang Chokyi Gyeltsen (1570 – 1662). He was bestowed the title of Panchen Lama by His Holiness the 5th Dalai Lama after being declared as an emanation of Amitabha.

After being given the title, his three previous incarnations were posthumously also bestowed the title, making Lobsang Chokyi Gyeltsen the 4th Panchen Lama. He became a teacher to many Tibetans, Bhutanese and Mongolian religious figures, including His Holiness the 4th and 5th Dalai Lamas, and the 1st Jetsun Dampa of Mongolia. A prolific author, Chokyi Gyeltsen is credited with over a hundred compositions, including a number of commentaries and ritual texts that remain central in the Gelukpa tradition today. Along with his role as a teacher of the Dharma, the Panchen Lamas are usually responsible for the recognition of the rebirths of the Dalai Lamas, and vice versa.

The 10th Panchen Lama, Lobsang Trinley Lhundrub Chokyi Gyeltsen (19 February 1938 – 28 January 1989) continued both the spiritual and political roles of his predecessors. His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, his contemporary, was even heard to say and echo the Panchen Lama’s own words that the Dalai Lama would safeguard Tibet from the outside while the Panchen Lama would safeguard Tibet from the inside, as he never left Tibet after the political troubles of 1959. He was truly loved by the Tibetans, all the way until his passing. When he taught, thousands of people would attend, not only from his own Gelug lineage, but masters and practitioners from all traditions of Tibetan Buddhism.

At his sprawling monastery of Tashi Lhunpo, he has a special chapel specifically dedicated to Dorje Shugden, where prayers and rituals are performed on a daily basis. In his great omniscience the Panchen Lama held Dorje Shugden as the principal Dharma protector of the monastery. He also personally propitiated Dorje Shugden among other Dharma protectors, and even wrote extensive prayers and rituals to Dorje Shugden. These rituals and prayers are contained within his ‘sung bum’ or collected works, which are provided here. As such a great lama, with an erudite and clear understanding of the Buddhist scriptures, a teacher to millions in both Tibet and China, from an established incarnation line and an emanation of the Buddha Amitabha, he could not be mistaken about his practice of Dorje Shugden.

His Holiness 10th Panchen Lama is known for his composition of commentaries and practice texts that are still in use by contemporary Buddhist practitioners both in Tibet and across the world. One of these is a powerful ritual composition propitiating the compassionate Dorje Shugden.

Upon the request by Acharya Lobsang Jangchub to compose a shorter version of the prayer (sadhana) for the exhortation of activities of Dorje Shugden, Panchen Lama immediately composed an abbreviate form of Dorje Shugden’s Kangsol. This text is entitled “Manjunatha’s (Tsongkapa) Lineage protector Dorje Shugden and five forms wrathful propitiations and confessional prayers and fulfilment of activities rites” or “Melodious sound of Accomplishment of the Four Activities” for short. Once the prayers were completed, he had signs and strong feelings that Dorje Shugden has been working hard to protect the Buddhadharma in general and the lineage of Lama Tsongkhapa specifically.

Mirroring the abilities of one of his earlier incarnations, Khedrub Je, a disciple of Lama Tsongkhapa and master of both sutra and tantra, the Panchen Lama used his compositional skill and poetic prowess to create a masterful sadhana. Worthy of note is a praise in which the first letter of each verse is a Tibetan vowel. Such compositions are rarely seen, and have historically only been used when propitiating senior Dharma protectors such as Palden Lhamo and Kalarupa.

The Panchen Lama also stated that while composing the Dorje Shugden sadhana (prayers) he was filled with a sense of happiness and bliss. He ends the composition with not only his official title but his ordination name, Tenzin Trinley Jigme Choje Wangchuk, endorsing the validity of his work. He composed the sadhana in his own Tashi Lhunpo monastery while in the Hall of Clear Light and Bliss.

For the first time available, Dorje Shugden and his entourage of 32 asssistants of his mandala.

Dorje Shugden is a powerful protector deity who is also an emanation of Manjushri, a wisdom bestowing Buddha. Therefore, he has great ability to help us to progress further on the spiritual path. He does this by helping us to overcome obstacles and problems for the modern individual.

Due to his enlightened nature, Dorje Shugden is able to manifest 32 deities and within the same abode resides Setrap and Kache Marpo:-

    1. 5 Dorje Shugden families or emanations. They consists of the following:-

    – Dulzin Dorje Shugden, which performs activities to eliminate inner and outer obstacles.
    – Shize, which performs activities to pacify all illnesses and disease.
    – Gyenze, which performs activities to increase all desirable material and spiritual wealth.
    – Wangze, which performs activities to control difficult people and circumstances.
    – Trakze, which performs activities to wrathfully eliminate all insurmountable obstacles and life-threatening situations.

    2. 9 Mothers. They represent protection of the five senses and developing control of the four elements. These are all attributes that signify their ability to assist tantric practitioners with their higher meditations.

    3. 8 Guiding Monks. They represent the Eight Great Bodhisattvas (Avalokitesvara, Manjushri, Vajrapani, Samantabhadra, Maitreya, Kshitigarbha, Akashagarbha, Sarva-nivarana-viskambini) and they bring about the growth of the Dharma, through the Sangha, Dharma practitioners and Dharma establishments.

    4. 10 Youthful & Wrathful Attendants. They represent the ten wrathful attendants to avert inner and outer obstacles. They are beings who are from Mongolia, China, Kashmir, India, Bengali, etc.

    5. Setrap. He is a senior Dharma Protector from India and an emanation of Amitabha Buddha. He had enthroned Dorje Shugden as an authentic Dharma Protector. Therefore, he also resides within the same mandala of Dorje Shugden.

    6. Kache Marpo. He is not an emanation of Dorje Shugden but he is still an enlightened Dharma Protector in his own right. He was originally known as Tsiu Marpo of Samye Monastery. However, he has placed himself under the service of Dorje Shugden as his chief minister, performing many activities in order to protect and benefit practitioners. Therefore, he stands guard at the main entrance of Dorje Shugden’s mandala. He often takes trance of qualified mediums to speak.

    7. Namkar Barzin. He is the reincarnation of an old Mongolian monk and when he passed away in Phari area of Tibet, his spirit was placed as a powerful assistant of Dorje Shugden. He guards and protects buildings and great institutions especially those that benefit others. He rides on a mythical Gyaling animal that resembles a goat but with scales.

These sacred images are available on *Vajrasecrets. They are made of high quality alloy and are one of a kind. They are based on the lineage of His Holiness Panchen Rinpoche’s monastery, Tashilhunpo in Shigatse, Tibet. In fact, the iconography of these statues are based on detailed photographs taken by H. E. Tsem Rinpoche during a trip to Tashilhunpo’s protector chapel. These are based exactly as the 10th Panchen Lama’s personal collection.

Recently Beng Kooi and Martin on behalf of myself and Kechara was lucky to have audience with His Holiness Gaden Trisur Rinpoche Jetsun Lungrik Namgyal of Gaden Shartse Monastery. He lives in around Paris, France. His Holiness is 91 years old and very healthy and alert. He was the 101st throne holder for Tsongkapa and was the head of the Gelugpa school of Buddhism and was very successful during his tenure. He is a strong practitioner of both Sutra and Tantra of Je Tsongkapa’s tradition and a master of all Buddhist knowledge. He holds steadfast to his protector Dorje Shugden very strongly. So we can see even the highest throneholders who are masters of Sutra and Tantra also practices Dorje Shugden knowing the benefits.

Beng Kooi and Martin brought photo albums of Kechara Forest Retreat/Kechara and updates on Kechara and our works. His Holiness was very pleased to listen and offered some gifts back.

This is a beautiful picture and the great blessings bestowed on us from His Holiness Gaden Trisur Rinpoche Jetsun Lungrik Namgyal.

A buddha like Chenrezig is infallible, one cannot at one moment is a buddha and the next a being with an ignorant mind. It does not make any sense at all.

Furthermore a buddha cannot regress back to samsara it goes against logic.

Interesting facts about the 14th Dalai Lama & Dorje Shugden. His Holiness the Dalai Lama is the incarnation of the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara and he is an enlightened being. There is a strong evidence that H.H Dalai Lama practice Dorje Shugden much earlier. While stayng in Dungkar monastery the Dalai Lama consulted the oracle of Dorje Shugden and have great respect for Dorje Shugden and even composed the special prayer. This show that the Dalai Lama has close relationships and later
the Dalai Lama was advice to leave Tibet in 1959.After the escape the Trode Khangsar chapel was built for Dorje Shugden after realising Dorje Shugden was an enlightened protector.
The Dalai Lama couldn’t be wrong and hoping that the ban of Dorje Shugden will be lifted soon.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this interesting post.

The way I see it, HH The Dalai Lama, Dorje Shugden, Rinpoche are all in collaboration to spread the dharma for the sake of all sentient beings. How can there ever be any conflict amongst enlightened beings? On the side of the buddhas there is no conflict but in our unenlightened minds, we see everything as conflict because we take only the short-term, narrow and mundane view of things.

The 14th Dalai Lama and the 5th Dalai Lama are the same mindstream. Dorje Shugden and Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen are the same mindstream. The 5th Dalai Lama and Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen were close dharma brothers during their day and were already accomplished masters, enlightened beings, Chenresig and Manjushri. We cannot deny that the Dalai Lama (14th or 5th, same mindstream) is closely associated with Dorje Shugden (Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen). They cannot be working against each other.

It is just that they act for a greater purpose that in our mundane view of things, may not make sense or may seem in conflict. But there is no conflict.

    • Pastor Shin Tan on Oct 31, 2016 at 10:48 pm

      Dear Echeah,
Thank you for sharing your opinion and highlighting that the 5th Dalai Lama and Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen were close Dharma brothers and that both were accomplished masters.

If we look at the previous incarnation of Dorje Shugden or Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen, we see an illustrious line of important lineage holders and accomplished masters. This is evident from the ‘Reincarnation Lineage Prayer’ written by great masters of the past, like the 4th Panchen Lama’s for example, as well as extracts of the biographies (rnam thar) of Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen and his reincarnation lineage from this post “Who is Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen?” (https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/buddhas-dharma/who-is-tulku-drakpa-gyeltsen.html).

Hence, I agree with you that His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the incarnation of Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen in the form of Dorje Shugden are all working together to spread the Dharma for the sake of all sentient beings.

  24. Joy Kam on Oct 28, 2016 at 3:14 am

I only have one question… why on would the 14th Dalai Lama who is emanation of Chenrezig compose a praise to Dorje Shugden if he was just an evil spirit?

Isn’t He Chenrezig hence clairvoyant? Is he or is he not a holy living Buddha?

And why did he say in the praise that Dorje Shugden is Manushri?
“Glory of the wisdom, compassion and power of infinite Buddhas
Miraculously powerful protector of Manjusri Tsongkhapa’s Teachings
Arisen as a lord of all wrathful worldly hosts
Come from the abodes of Tushita, Kechara”

And a few years later decides to turn the whole thing around like this never even happened. There has got to be something divine at play, otherwise, it just makes no sense and stripes us all off our logic, beliefs, and faith in the Buddhas. It would literally hamper everyone’s trust in Gurus and Buddhism if it was merely just a “mistake”. Basically, it would make everything we’ve learnt a mistake as well since it is all coming from the same source, same lineage masters, same teachings.

I think Your Holiness it is time to please turn the tables around again… you did it before, you can do it again, after all you are Chenrezig. Too many have suffered this chaos, confusion and disharmony, it is time to encourage family, friends and most importantly teachers and their students to unite. Definitely #StrongTogether… take Hillary’s advice lol.

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this information. It is indeed a very useful information and strong evidence that H.H Dalai Lama practice Dorje Shugden. In the beginning of the article, Rinpoche mentioned that Dalai Lama is Avalokitesvara, if Dorje Shugden was a spirit, as the reincarnation of Avalokitesvara is able to identify and he wouldn’t have listened to the oracle and composed a prayer for Dorje Shugden. Again, there are so many highly attained Lama practicing Dorje Shugden, like the tutor of H.H 14th Dalai Lama, Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche, H.E Domo Geshe Rinpoche, 13th Dalai Lama, and 14th Dalai Lama himself, this is strongly proven that Dorje Shugden is the mighty Dharmapala. Highly Attained Lamas couldn’t be wrong. We have strong faith in Dorje Shugden, and we have strong faith that the ban of Dorje Shugden will be lifted soon.
Again, thank you Rinpoche for the article. With folded hands _/\_

“The mindstream of an enlightened being remains the same regardless of whether he is 10 years old or 70 years old.”

Perfect description of the 14th Dalai Lama’s mindstream by HE the 25th Tsem Rinpoche, as Rinpoche had always and always will regard and respect the Dalai Lama as the incarnation of Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara, the Buddha of Great Compassion.

Reading the prayer of praise to Dorje Shugden by the Dalai Lama in 1951, it is illogical to even think that the mindstream of the Dalai Lama can change so much (in a space of twenty over years) as to impose the Ban and disparage Dorje Shugden.

This proves the ultimate truth that Dorje Shugden is the Mighty Buddha Protector and nothing else.

Remember that the mind of the enlightened never changes, that is why they reincarnate life after life.

Dorje Shugden arose due to a promise made by Duldzin Drakpa Gyeltsen to Nechung (Protector of Samye and the Dalai Lama’s state oracle). While Lama Tsongkhapa was giving his perfect teachings, a white dove circled above. Duldzin Drakpa Gyeltsen stayed back after the teachings were completed, and the white dove transformed into a young boy who requested Duldzin Drakpa Gyeltsen to be the Protector of the uncommon Gaden lineage, to protect Nagarjuna’s Middle Way view which was elucidated by His Guru, Lama Tsongkhapa so well. Duldzin promised, and therefore at the right conditions and time during his incarnation as Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen, Nechung created the conditions that manifested for Dorje Shugden to arise. So even Dalai Lama’s state oracle orchestrated the becoming of Dorje Shugden..Dorje Shugden and the Dalai Lama do indeed share a close bond.

All that Rinpoche has stated above is irrefutable, as to how Dorje Shugden can be a spirit, and its’ practice, bad. There is no way, Dorje Shugden, cannot fool so many highly attained lamas, including Dalai Lama’s own senior and junior tutors, so Dorje Shugden must be an enlightened protector that helps us in our practice too.

If the 14th Dalai Lama’s praise to Dorje Shugden was written out of mistake, (which cannot be), then all that His Holiness teaches, which he would have learnt from his teachers who are Dorje Shugden practitioners, would be faulty too! It just cannot be.

With true great sorrow we must look honestly at the facts in 2016. The true story of the 14th Dalai Lama and the 4th Domo Geshe Rinpoche.

The 14th Dalai Lama has personally chosen an ANTI DORJE SHUGDEN incarnation as the 4th H.E. Domo Geshe Rinpoche. His Holiness has allowed a FALSE INCARNATION of Domo Geshe Rinpoche to now exist. This false Domo Geshe is leading the followers of the true Domo Geshe down a false path into black karma. They are being taught the Dorje Shugden is EVIL and a DEMON. They are being taught that the followers of Dorje Shugden are EVIL AND WORSHIP A DEMON. The Dalai Lama now see’s Domo Geshe Rinpoche’s , Dungkar Oracle as EVIL AND POSSESSED IN TRANCE BY A DEMON. He has allowed Dungkar Monastery to be attacked on numerous occasions by HIS anti Dorje Shugden followers causing the TRUE incarnation of Domo Geshe Rinpoche to live in FEAR FOR HIS LIFE.

There are now two emanations of the 4th Domo Geshe Rinpoche one pro Dorje Shugden and one anti Dorje Shugden. This Dalai Lama has destroyed his samaya with the 3rd Domo Geshe Rinpoche. He has done this on purpose and does not care about what he is doing to the followers of the Domo Geshe Rinpoche lineage. The Dalai Lama WANTS TO DESTROY THE SAMAYA of the followers of the true Domo Geshe Rinpoche lineage. THE DALAI LAMA WHAT’S AND HAS DESTROYED THE DOMO GESHE LINEAGE.

This is the true story in 2016 of the 14th Dalai Lama and Domo Geshe Rinpoche.

    • Pastor Shin on Sep 29, 2016 at 8:52 am

      Dear Harold,
Thank you for the important information above as not many, especially outside the Tibetan circle may know about the 2 Domo Geshe Rinpoches.

As much as I would like to comment on the Dalai Lama, I’m reminded of Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche’s advice, that it is difficult for the common view of beings to understand the appearances of holy great Aryas and their inconceivable three secrets at the definitive level.

      Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche also said,
“But some who are narrow minded, not understanding this point, consider this Dharmapala to be like an ordinary worldly being and, with supposed faith in the Dalai Lama and the Panchen Lama, disparage him; or else they indeed admire this great Dharmapala but criticize the Dalai Lama or Panchen Lama. Using either one as a reason not to admire the other and speaking badly about either in any way is the conduct of an ordinary being who, under the influence of attachment and hatred, just tries to help friends and hurt enemies; it obscures the increase of these great holy Aryas’ deeds and creates the karmic cause to experience unbearable suffering in the future.”

Just like the 5th Dalai Lama who was able to summon Dorje Shugden to be burned with intense samadhi (although Dorje Shugden could not be burned), this goes to show that both are the enlightening activities of the great Avalokiteshvara and Manjushri. Perhaps it is us projecting faults upon the realised qualities of these great beings, and that they were merely playing the roles in bring more benefits to sentient being.

I appreciate your sharing and see you around on the blog.

      • Harold Musetescu on Sep 29, 2016 at 9:29 am

        Dearest Pastor Shin:

I could not disagree with you and your statement more strongly.

I believe in RIGHT SPEECH and RIGHT ACTION. The SPEECH and ACTIONS of the 14th Dalai Lama are EVIL,CRUEL AND MURDEROUS.

I believe in the motto “DEEDS SPEAK” and the DEEDS of this DEMON called the Dalai Lama SPEAK VOLUMES.

These “DEEDS”, “SPEAK ” of an EVIL DICTATOR who only cares about himself and POWER. The Dalai Lama lineage is one of BLOOD AND MURDER.

The Dalai Lama came into power with the help of Kushri Khan and his Mongol Army. They SLAUGHTERED and OVERTHREW the Sakya Sect and then Sakya Trizin. They MURDERED monks, nuns and lay people who came to the defence of the then national Tibetan leader Sakya Trinzin. The Dalai Lama and his Mongolian Army DESTROYED Sakya monasteries and nunneries. THE DALAI LAMA TOOK OVER TIBET BY VIOLENCE AND MURDER NOT BY SHOWING TIBETANS HE WAS AN EMANATION OF THE BUDDHA OF COMPASSSION.

Let us not forget what was done by this so called “Buddha of Compassion” to the Jonang Sect.

If this 14th Dalai Lama was back in full power in Tibet in 2016 there would be only three options for the followers of Dorje Shugden.
        1) Stop practicing Dorje Shugden FOREVER.
        2) Leave Tibet FOREVER.
        3) If you don’t do either 1 or 2 you will be EXECUTED BY “THE BUDDHA OF COMPASSION”.

I am truly sick and tired of hearing this nonsense that we are JUST TO STUPID to understand THE ACTIONS OF SO CALLED ENLIGHTENED BEINGS.

By the way who gave the Dalai Lama’s lineage the title of “Buddha of Compassion”? If you can’t guess I’ll tell you, it was Kushri Khan and his MONGOLIAN ARMY.

JUST GUESS WHAT THE MONGOLIANS WOULD DO TO YOU IF YOU DISAGREED WITH THEM?

I believe in RIGHT SPEECH AND RIGHT ACTION.

        DO YOU!!!!!

        • Rosalyn on Sep 29, 2016 at 3:40 pm

“Dearest Pastor Shin”? How condescending. You scream a lot and you are very angry. What you write becomes so unpleasant to read. You would probably find more people agreeing with your opinions if you didn’t shout at them half as much. Don’t like Dalai Lama? That’s your opinion but maybe stop trying to force everyone else to believe in the same thing as you then getting upset when they don’t? People are entitled to their own opinions and it doesn’t give you the right to be so rude. So please practise right speech too. Otherwise you will just be shouting in an empty room.

          • Harold Musetescu on Sep 29, 2016 at 8:06 pm

How very rude of you Rosalyn.

“People are entitled to their own opinions”, except me, Rosalyn?

“What you write becomes so unpleasant to read”. I wrote from the stand point of history. What the Dalai Lama lineage has done for hundreds of years to the Tibetan people is “unpleasant to read”.

“That’s your opinion but maybe stop trying to force everyone else to believe in the same thing as you”. I’m giving my opinions on a public forum blog for a discussion. How do I “try to force”, tell me Rosalyn? Its the Dalai Lama who is doing the forcing of his opinion and only his, just like you are trying to do with me.

“So please practise right speech too”. Who’s version of “Right Speech” Rosalyn, yours”? Who’s “Right speech”, the Dalai Lama’s “right speech?

I am PASSIONATE NOT ANGRY, but you some how can read my true MIND?

“How condescending”? I was “condescending” and again you can read my MIND? I used it as a term of endearment. But your OPINION must be correct!

“You scream a lot”. Interesting how words on a blog have that effect on you Rosalyn.

It’s sad that you would attack the “MESSANGER” and not the “MESSAGE”.

TO DENY ANYONE THE RIGHT TO THEIR OPINIONS IS WRONG SPEECH, ROSALYN.

IF YOU DISAGREE WITH MY OPINIONS “WONDERFUL” LETS DEDATE THEM AND NOT TRY TO SILENCE THEM.

            Harold Musetescu,
I know you are passionate about what you are discussing here but Rosalyn has a point. Please bear in mind when you write your comments in capital letters, it means that you are shouting your message. This is the standard these days and many people would find that a tad too forceful and aggressive. Try to understand and it would be easier to communicate your point if you were less aggressive as people generally preferred the message delivered in a pleasant tone. This is just my opinion and I think you shouldn’t be offended by Rosalyn but try to understand what she is saying.

Sometimes due to our karmas and for the benefits of all sentient beings, high lamas demonstrate strange behaviour for a bigger picture.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama is a highly attained master, the 14th Dalai Lama has contributed tremendously in spreading Dharma. His predecessor the 5th Dalai Lama was also a great lama during his time, many people would often come to his teachings.

The 5th Dalai Lama wrote a praise to Dorje Shugden and established a chapel called Trode Khangsar for Dorje Shugden after realising Dorje Shugden was an enlightened protector not some spirit. A high master like the 5th Dalai Lama cannot be wrong.

The 13th and 14th Dalai Lama respected Domo Geshe Rinpoche a lot, they have high regards on Dome Geshe Rinpoche. Domo Geshe Rinpoche propitiate Dorje Shugden and rely on Dorje Shugden. As a highly attained master, Domo Geshe Rinpoche would be able to identify if Dorje Shugden is a spirit or enlightened being.

If Dorje Shugden is a spirit, it is impossible that high lamas like Domo Geshe Rinpoche, Trijang Rinpoche, Zong Rinpoche, The 5th Dalai Lama would continue to propitiate him and not falling to the 3 lower realm.

  31. William Chua on Sep 26, 2016 at 7:10 pm

The close connection between His Holiness Dalai Lama and Dorje Shugden goes back a long time during the reigns of the 5th Dalai Lama. Ever since, Dorje Shugden has helped the Dalai lama in many occasion when Dorje Shugden took trance to give advice or prophecies as described in the article above. It is the clairvoyance of DS that the Dalai Lama is not prisoner of the Chinese Government when the Tibet invasion occurred in 1959.

The 5th Dalai Lama in commemoration of Dorje Shugden has built a chapel for him called Trode Khangsar and also composed prayers to Dorje Shugden. This shows that the Dalai Lama who is enlightened is appreciative of another enlightened being.

  32. Pastor Han Nee on Sep 26, 2016 at 3:33 pm

It is undoubtedly the case that from the very start both the 5th and the 14th Dalai Lama, from their omniscient minds, had known that Dorje Shugden was a supramundane enlightened Dharma Protector. He had arisen to protect the teachings of Lama Tsongkhapa, especially his unequalled teachings of Nagarjuna’s Middle View.

Like the 5th Dalai Lama, the 14th Dalai Lama shows very close affinity to Dorje Shugden. The greatest testimonies to this affinity are that the 14th Dalai Lama practised Dorje Shugden for decades, consulting the oracles, and that he composed a prayer to Dorje Shugden called “Melody of the Unceasing Vajra.” He was so moved by the Oracle of Shugden during a visit to Dungkar Monastery that he wrote this praise and prayer. He was deeply impressed with the answers that Dorje Shugden gave during the trance and the Protector’s level of clairvoyance. This prayer was also the result of requests and offerings made by the monks and scholars at the monastery.

In this prayer, Dorje Shugden is praised by the 14th Dalai Lama as the:
“Glory of the wisdom, compassion and power of infinite Buddhas
Miraculously powerful protector of Manjusri Tsongkhapa’s Teachings.!”
This is undoubtedly a praise to an enlightened Protector who arose to protect the supreme teachings of Je Tsongkhapa!

Furthermore, in this prayer, His Holiness recognises Dorje Shugden as a superior being, embodying the gurus and protective deities, who can grant the two types of siddhis – ordinary and extra-ordinary siddhis:

“In brief, we enthrone you, O Deity, as the supreme
Collected nature of all Gurus and Protective Deities!
From densely gathered clouds of the four activities
Pour down a cool rain of the two siddhis!”

Only an enlightened Protector can grant the two types of attainments, definitely not a spirit! Hence this is clear recognition of Dorje Shugden as a supramundane enlightened Protector!

Hence this prayer to and praise of Dorje Shugden shows , without the shadow of a doubt, that the 14th Dalai Lama recognized and revered Dorje Shugden. Whether it was written at an earlier stage of the 14th Dalai Lama’s life or at a later stage, the fact remains that it is the same enlightened mind that saw Dorje Shugden as a supramundane Protector and that mind of Enlightenment cannot degenerate!

All the evidences points to the Dalai Lama’s closeness with Protector Dorje Shugden – 5th Dalai Lama (he built Trode Khangsar Protector Chapel, handmade the Dorje Shugden statue within and wrote a praise to Dorje Shugden of his enlightened actitivities),
    – 11th Dalai Lama (held the grand ceremony at Trode Khangsar Chapel to recognised Dorje Shugde as a powerful Dharma Protector, not only Gelug but the whole Buddhadharma),
    – 13th Dalai Lama’s reliance on Dorje Shugden through the Dungkar Oracle trained by Domo Geshe and
    – 14th Dalai Lama’s composition of praise to Lord Dorje Shugden and later his reliance on Lord Dorje Shugden’s instructions through the 6th Panglung Kuten Oracle for his own successful escape from Tibet.

With such strong connections through the life times, how could there be wrongness in the practice and propitiation of enlightened Dorje Shugden? He had known even years before the escape for the fierce Khampa warriors to form the Chushi Gangdruk guerrilla army and to be located on the route that the 14th Dalai Lama will take few years later and to protect him. Could the 14th Dalai Lama who is of the same enlightened mindstream of the 5th and 11th Dalai Lamas really not know of loyalty that Dorje Shugden had towards the Dharma? Towards the Dalai Lamas who are the upholders of the Dharma? May His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama’s recent statements be a new beginning to unify of Tibetan Buddhist practitioners and acceptance of Shugden practitioners. May Lord Dorje Shugden’s practice spread to benefit everyone in all directions of the world.

  35. Pastor Antoinette on Sep 25, 2016 at 8:54 am

The Dalai Lama composing a prayer to Dorje Shugden cannot be a mistake. H.H. stayed at Dungkar monastery and composed this prayer to Dorje Shugden. As the Dalai Lama is the emanation of Chenrezig, Buddha of Compassion, his mindstream is that of an enlightened being.

H.H. the Dalai Lama was saved in 1959 during the Chinese invasion in Tibet. It was Dorje Shugden who told them which route to take and Dorje Shugden guided them safely all them way.

The tradition of oracles is long, well known and powerful in Tibetan Buddhism. When the oracle takes trance of Kache Marpo, the minister of Dorje Shugden, he can even give Dharma talks and initiations. We were very fortunate to have the famous Panglung Kuten oracle taking trance in Kechara Forest Retreat, Wisdom Hall in 2015 and giving us advice. https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/dorje-shugden/700-meet-a-buddha.html

Here is a video of H.E. the 25th Tsem Rinpoche who has a very close connection and clean Samaya with Dorje Shugden, who is an emanation of Manjushri, the Buddha of Wisdom. https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/dorje-shugden/never-seen-before-footage-of-dorje-shugden-oracles.html

According to the blog-script, it showed that “It was Changzo Yeshe who went to receive advice from Dorje Shugden via Panglung Kuten that H.H. The Dalai Lama should leave Tibet.” As said in the Blog-script, following the advice and protection offered by Dorje Shugden via the 6th Panglung oracle, H.H. The Dalai Lama and his retine began their secret journey out of Tibet on March 16th, 1959. It was due to Dorje Shugden prophecies, advices and protection that His Holiness was safely able to enter into excile to spread the Buddhist Teachings all over the World, benefitting many sentient beings! This can be seen that His Holiness The Dalai Lama and Dorje Shugden may have very strong and unigue Link and connection with each other, which span across continents and many lifetimes! Om Benza Wiki Bitana Zoha.

  37. Fong on Sep 24, 2016 at 1:58 pm

Dalai Lama visited Dungkar Monastery in 1951 and also consulted Dorje Shugden oracle while he was there with Domo Geshe Rinpoche. Following that experience he composed a liturgy, “Melody of the Unceasing Vajra” in praise of Dorje Shugden.
Domo Geshe Rinpoche is highly attained though have outward looks of a simple monk. Even the 13th Dalai Lama see Domo Geshe Rinpoche as Je Tsongkhapa himself. And, it was an oracle trained by this illustrious master who told the 14th Dalai Lama of the plot to imprison him and other high lamas and to leave Tibet.
The oracle even went as far as to give details as to the route and manner of the escape. As the Dorje Shugden is enlightened He could foresee the dangers and obstacles, a special troop of guerrilla army, the Chushi Gangdruk was formed and trained many years prior to this event. This further ensure that the escape was swift and smooth.
So, in nutshell, with the advice of Dorje Shugden via the 6th Panglung Oracle, the 14th Dalai Lama made good his escape to India and is able to spread the Dharma to the West.
The relationship between the 14th Dalai Lama and Dorje Shugden started many incarnations ago, from the time of the 5th Dalai Lama and Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen, where they were like brothers studying under the 4th Panchen Lama.
These and many more incidents tells us that the Dalai Lama and Dorje Shugden were very close.

  38. Anne Ong on Sep 23, 2016 at 2:21 pm

This proves that His Holiness the Dalai Lama have always had faith and trust in Protector Dorje Shugden until now and has never changed his mind about Dorje Shugden. And His Holiness the Dalai Lama also said that Dorje Shugden is harmless and we can practice Dorje Shugden. 🙂

The concept of rebirth has a long association with Buddhism. Rebirth in Buddhism refers to the teaching that the actions of a sentient being lead to a new existence after death, in an endless cycle called saṃsāra. One will begins a new life in a new body that may be human, animal or spiritual depending on the moral quality of the previous life’s actions. What they are reborn as depends on their actions in their previous life rather kamma. As a Buddhist we should believe in rebirth but still many people don’t . Buddha taught us that choices of rebirth make a difference and can shape many lifetimes. Buddhists believe that nothing that exists is permanent and everything will ultimately cease to be. Against the odds two inspiring nuns fought all the way to become ordained, fighting for their rights to practice Buddhism . Interesting read of how they went through , bringing equality for women in Thailand. Buddhism is the predominant religion in Thailand. Officially, only men can become monks and novices in Thailand under a Buddhist order. The country does not recognize female monks or novices. In recent years, more Thai Buddhist women seeking to become full-fledged female monks, have been defying the tradition getting ordained overseas, in Sri Lanka or India. Buddhist women have been fighting for years for equality and social acceptance in Thailand. They just can’t be ordained by Thai monks. Ven. Dhammananda, 68 year old former university lecturer and activist became Thailand’s first Theravadin bhikkhuni after going the odds. Inspiring read biography on Ven. Dhammananda and Ven. Dr. Lee. They had gone through great hardships, discrimination and against the many odds in bringing equality to women in Buddhism in Thailand.
Thank you Rinpoche for this great inspiration post.

The unseen things are spiritual realities that are eternal and invisible to our physical eye. There are many forces and phenomena that are not visible to the naked eye. There are many things that humans cannot see yet there are some could see. For what is can be seen is only. Things do exist even we can’t see, believing their existence is our choice. Things that we can’t see in the world opens up a curiosity and exploration by some. Whether through scientific inquiry, or spiritual exploration, the pursuit of knowledge about the unseen can lead to profound insights about ourselves and the universe.
Malacca City is the historic capital of the coastal state of Malacca, in Malaysia serving as a link between east and west for over 500 years. Famous for breath-taking sights with rich heritage, ancient dark culture and history with many old centuries buildings with an interesting past and a colourful ghost story. For that reason alone it is worth visiting as is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site owing to its well-preserved historical center. There’s many historical mansions been passed down generation to generations and with many ghostly sighting by the locals and visitors. There’s the reason many unseen beings loitering and attached to these places. Such an interesting and incredibly creepy watching the video in this blog host by Li Kim. Li Kim had done a great work all along with her team to share with readers about our historic Malacca .
Thank you Rinpoche and Li Kim for this sharing.

There is a belief in rebirth

Vajrayogini symbolizes the wisdom of all enlightened beings and embodies the impulse of inspiration that drives the Buddhas to attain the perfect enlightenment. Vajrayogini is one of the most effective practices for people today. We can make offerings such as gold or jewel offerings and so on. The offering of gold helps us to collect merits, spiritual attainments, gain a deeper connection to Vajrayogini. It also creates the causes to attain a Buddha’s body.
Make Offerings to Vajrayogini in Kechara Forest Retreat at Bentong is such an meritorious way for us to collect merits. All thanks to our Guru having conceptualised the idea of having a statue of Vajrayogini for everyone . Recitation of Vajrayogini mantra can be a powerful tool for self-transformation, healing and liberation from samsara.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing with details explanation .

Thank you, Rinpoche for sharing this insightful article. Life is short, and if we enjoy every moment of every day, then we will be happy no matter what happens or what changes along the way. What ever matter to us at the time of death is nothing. In the end, it’s not the years in our life that count it’s what you leave behind that matters. A great soul never dies. It brings us together again and again.Death is the golden key that opens the palace of eternity. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time. Learning Dharma and practicing dharma is the our choice that’s matter. Some of the key points to take notes, read, study the Lam Rim and apply it, engage in Sadhana daily and consistently. No one will help us at the moment of death but ourselves. Spiritual practicing is the best choice.

Well the size of Buddha statues in Tibetan Buddhism is important because it represents the Buddha’s immense ability and vast knowledge. Hence the Buddha statues hold the symbol of satisfaction within, peace and happiness. They are a symbol of inspiration for every human being. When we focus on the Buddha statues, it gives us inner peace that our mind, our heart and our soul gets enlightened.
We have are so fortunate seeing and circumambulating where the 9-foot Dorje Shugden statue and with 500 mantra stones engraved with Dorje Shugden’s sacred mantra. As Rinpoche had said before the bigger and more Buddha statues helps in planting seeds of enlightenment in people’s mind-streams. It also help us to generate as much merit and purify as much karma as possible. Merely by seeing all those big statues at Kechara Forest Retreat is a blessing.
    Thank you Rinpoche.

The 4th Tagpu Pemavajra Jampel Tenpai Ngodrub, most commonly known as Tagpu Dorje Chang, was a highly accomplished yogi Highly attained lama who had many authentic visions of the Buddhas and even travel astrally to receive direct teachings from them. His recognised line of incarnations stem all the way back to the 14th Century. He is generally regarded as such amongst Gelug lineage holders. He spent most of his time in a hermitage located above Sera Monastery, gave teachings and transmitted many vital practices and lineages to his foremost student Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche. Besides receiving the complete instructions of Dorje Shugden’s practice, Tagpu Dorje Chang had many other mystical experiences throughout his lifetime. Interesting read biography of a highly accomplished mahasiddha lama.

n Tibetan culture, it is a popular and customary practice for families to invite monks to perform spiritual ceremonies such as Trusol rituals. The monks have had the opportunity to offer such ceremonies for individuals or their families. Such ceremonies purify the elements of the environment which helps those living or visiting there to experience good health, success and well-being. The sacred ritual of ‘bathing’ the Buddhas and consecration through which negativities, sicknesses and obstacles will be cleared. Where by filling those areas with positive energies and good vibes through this Trusol consecration puja. Water is an essential part of this puja and symbolises the cleansing of all negativities and impurities. Through this puja it also pacifies local deities and other unseen beings in the surrounding areas. We are indeed fortunate that Tsem Rinpoche has taught Kecharians this practice and it has benefited many.

Reading this post had me gain some knowledge of Shifter Werewolves. Any article regarding rare creatures or paranormal articles are of my interest since young. In European folklore, a werewolf is a man who turns into a wolf at night and devours animals, people, or corpses but returns to human form by day. They have the ability to transform from an ordinary human appearance to a partially-lupine form with pointed ears, mutton chops, claws and fangs, and a ridged brow . Wow… werewolf tends to be vicious and unable to control his blood thirst. Their underlying common origin can be traced back to Proto-Indo-European mythology. In many depictions, these bloodthirsty beasts are evil where they kill animals and innocent people. They are humans who transition into wolf-like creatures, after being placed under a curse. In folklore, most werewolves originate from being cursed or bitten by another werewolf. That’s what they do believe. According many enthusiasts, there’s many different type of werewolves such as Alpha wolves, Beta wolves , Deltas, Elders, some survive as loners while others move in packs. How true it is no one knows. I do believe their existing . Many interesting stories related to these wolves in the past history.

Beautiful Dorje Shugden at Malacca. One should pay a visit there, located at a busy tourist place. It was such an auspicious occasion that a grand Puja was held there. Dedicated students and volunteers were there getting the place ready for the grand puja. Well the Grand Dorje Shugden puja was conducted by very own Kechara puja team to commemorate the chapel’s 3rd anniversary. Many people attended the Puja that’s wonderful to receive the powerful Protector Dorje Shugden blessings. More people will make a connection and get to know Manjushri, the Buddha of Wisdom, in the form of a Dharma Protector. May Dorje Shugden’s practice flourish to benefit those tourists and locals.

Venerable Geshe Rabten Rinpoche is a highly realised meditation master known as a debater, scholar, and meditation master, was the first Tibetan Buddhist master to introduce the complete Vinaya-tradition. He had also introduce the study of the five major topics of Buddhism to the West. He became the ‘path breaker’ of the complete and complex teachings of Buddhism in the West. Many masters, who are famous in the West today, were Geshe’s students. enerable Geshe Rabten. Geshe Rabten wrote the beautiful and Manjushri’s prayer called Gangloma and gave a profound explanation. We are so fortunate to learn about this Manjushri’s sacred prayer. May all be blessed by the practice of Lord Manjushri and Geshe Rabten’s explanation.

The begging bowl or alms bowl is one of the simplest but most important objects in the daily lives of Theravada Buddhist monks. The alms bowl still stands as an emblem of how all Buddhas, as numerous as grains of sand in the Ganges, practiced to end their desire. All those who receive the alms bowl should focus their mind to act with self-control and self-respect. Almsgiving is a tradition of Theravada Buddhists, majority in Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Laos. In those early days of Buddhism, monks would take their bowls and go out begging for food. As today in Thailand one could see monks woke up before dawn every morning and carried his bowl through the roads or paths wherever he was staying. Local people would place food in the bowl as a donation, through the generosity of lay people. They accept whatever food is offered for them and eat whatever been given, serve as a blessing for the giver.
One bowl has held the food of a thousand families. A solitary monastic travels on his journey of a hundred thousand miles seeking liberation from the cycle of birth and death.
Thank you H.E. Tsem Rinpoche for explaining the meaning of begging and gave us more reasons to be vegetarian . Create a awareness among us not killing animals to be one.

Ajahn Siripanyo, the son of billionaire Ananda Krishnan, chose to abandon his inheritance and become a Buddhist monk in pursuit of spirituality. A Thai-Malaysian monk born in London and educated in UK. He was ordained in Thailand and lived there, leaving behind a life of immense wealth and privilege. He did surprised many and his choice was unexpected. Initially as a temporary measure, but somehow later evolved into a permanent way of life. Ven. Ajahn Siripanyo is now the Abbot of hermitage Dtao Dam on the Thai-Burmese border in Saiyok National Park, Thailand.
He was in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia years back giving an enthralling Dhamma talk on the timeless teachings of Ajahn Chah.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.

Find one of the most beautiful temples in the world in Nara, Japan. It is the 1,267 year old Todai-ji temple that houses a 15 meter Buddha Vairocana statue who is a cosmic and timeless Buddha. Emperor Shomu who sponsored this beautiful temple eventually abdicated and ordained as a Buddhist monk. Very interesting history and story. One of the places everyone should visit- https://bit.ly/2VgsHhK

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
