Amazing Spirit – Dog with Two Broken Legs Survives Tornado
This is a must watch video about Mason, a little dog that survived a TORNADO!!
On April 28th 2011, a tornado hit Alabama and other Northern and Southern states of America. Alabama is a tornado hotspot, and this tornado was the worst U.S. natural disaster since Hurricane Katrina in 2005 (which killed up to 1,800 people).
Hundreds were injured and many were killed that day. In certain townships, houses were flattened, cars flipped over, trees and power lines fell… leaving a wreckage of a destruction.
Amidst all that chaos was Mason. This little doggy had his 2 legs broken… Even so, he made his way all the way back home after 2 1/2 weeks! He had slowly crawled his way home and patiently waited for his family! What great love, devotion and persevering spirit a tiny dog like Mason showed… amazing!
I have added the article and video below for all of you…

Dog with Two Broken Legs Survives Tornado, Crawls Home to Find Family
By: ERIN SKARDA
Amid the destruction and devastation that has followed the severe tornadoes sweeping across the country, there’s one touching survivor tail worth celebrating — and it wags. (See what we did there?)
Three weeks after a series of tornadoes blew through Alabama, leveling everything in their path, a family in North Smithfield returned to their damaged home to sift through debris. Miraculously, they found their missing dog Mason waiting for them on the porch.
With both of his front legs broken and his fur matted and dirty, Mason had obviously been through a terrible ordeal. According to MyFox Alabama, the terrier mix was hiding in his garage when the storm picked him up and blew him away. For weeks, his family searched but found no sign of their scrappy pup.
“This is probably the most dramatic we’ve seen as far as an injury in an animal that’s survived this long,” Phil Doster of the Birmingham-Jefferson County Animal Control Shelter told MyFox Alabama. “For an animal just to show up on someone’s porch after this time was pretty remarkable, especially with the condition he’s in.”
With severe breaks on both his front paws, Mason literally had to crawl through the tornado’s wreckage to get back to his family home, but that hasn’t crushed this survivor’s spirits.
“For an animal to go through what he’s gone through and not to be ugly, to be happy for any companionship is remarkable. We’re honored to be part of his recovery,” Doster said.
Because of the generosity of Vulcan Park Animal Care in Birmingham, a center that volunteered their services to help the ailing pup, Mason is now on the mend — and needless to say, being showered with affection. Last Friday, Mason underwent surgery to fix metal plates to both his broken limbs, which will keep them stabilized as they heal. Mason will remain at Vulcan Park for about six more weeks, as his family works to restore some sense of order to their shattered home.
As the areas that have been hit with tornadoes continue to rebuild, NewsFeed hopes we’ll be able to share many more heartwarming stories like Mason’s — a truly tough pup.

Miracles do happened at times after all. Mason a dog survived a series of tornadoes that blew through Alabama. With both injuries with two front broken legs and went through the pain and suffering , he managed to crawl get back to where his family home. Mason was really a strong and brave dog surviving that long in such a condition. It’s a heart warming story .
Thank you for this sharing.
This is a wonderful story of an amazing dog! Mason, had apparently been hiding in the garage of the home he was living in, when a tornado hit and he was carried away . Hurt as he was , with his two front legs broken up quite badly, he crawled in pain all the way home amidst the wreckage of the series of tornadoes that had hit Alabama. How plucky Mason was , and with such an amazing spirit, to make his way determinedly home, despite the great pain. What an ordeal and he survived it
Later, Mason was most resilient , and quickly recovered his joyous spirits , when he was placed in a new home until his family had sorted out their home that that had been devastated by the tornadoes. However, his new carers were the people in the Vulcan Park Animal Care center in Birmingham and they cared for him with love. He is on the mend and should recover from his injuries soon.
Dear Rinpoche, to me for a dog to survived a tornado is already a miracle and even crawl back to the family using 2 and a half weeks of time is a double or triple miracle. I’m just glad that Manson is alright. And I wish that the people who got killed by the tornado will have a better kharma to learn the Dharma in their future lifetimes.
Mason is such an incredible dog. He had to endure so much pain and fear and practically had to drag himself to go back home. I can’t understand why the owner is so cruel as not to want him back when he showed so much loyalty to them. I am happy that he has found a new home with people who really care and love him.
good job Mason, but still how he went though all that pain to get to his owner is incredible loyalty. i hope mason lives long and has a happy life from that day on. please be as loyal as you are Mason and you will always be with your owner
This is so cool. This dog has survived a massive storm. But its sad that he has broken his legs. He doesn’t deserve this. I wish that he is fully recovered soon an that his owners will take good care of him and treat him with love. Thank you for sharing Rinpoche.
It’s sad that Mason had to go through all these. I couldn’t imagine how much pain he has been through. Even though he struggled a lot on his way back home, he still didn’t give up.
I am glad that he is living happily with his new family now.
Thank You for sharing Rinpoche.
Love, beatrix.
Animals can show us what it is like to endure.
There are so many real-life examples in this world that show us the unquestionable quality that dogs have – loyalty towards their owners.
How faithful is Mazon that she dragged herself back all the way from afar for 2 ½ week just to get back home.
Amazing spirit of loyalty, although only to find that his family does not want him.
Cannot comprehend why human can be so cruel. I hope Mazon can forget about this and is lead a great life in his new family.
it is amazing how after literally having his world turned upside down in a tornado, Mason could find it in him to go home with 2 broken legs, and despite being given away by the very people whom he could only think of at that time (how heartbreaking), he didn’t turn bitter but went on to love the new family that adopted him. Mason embodies the saying “love and let go”.
I was in tears by the time I finished watching the video.
Imagine the agonising pain it was in during the entire time it made its way back home! But its love for its owners was what that had made it persevered. To go HOME.
Thank you for sharing such heartwarming story.
It is really sad that Mason wasn’t received with open arms by the family for whom he suffered so much pain in a gallant effort to be home with them.
But such an indomitable spirit shown by this little dog is most inspiring. In the end, all’s well that ends well. He found loving people who adopted him.May he be looked after, from now on, with love and great care.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing yet another amazing and inspirational story about animals. Mason’s natural and pure instincts may surpass even many of us, considering his conditions with two broken front legs. He endured all the pain by crawling, just hope to be re-united with his family…. it is sad and I am actually feeling upset that his family could not take him back and rebuild their home together, after what Mason has gone through, a time when Mason needs all the love and care to heal….
Glad that a new family adopted Mason, I hope they will take good care of this truely amazing and loyal companion!
Mason the dog is amazing. He should be an inspiration to us all. The love and devotion he had for his owners was so strong that it overcame an animal’s natural instincts to care and protect for itself above all else. Instead Mason was driven by his love for his family to withstand the pain from his two broken front legs (ouch!) and crawled all the way back home without much food and water to wait patiently for his family to return. He should get a medal for bravery and loyalty.
What an amazing dog. Such loyalty. I am glad he will be a mascot to future tornado survivors.
I feel sad his previous owners don’t want him.
Am so glad his story has a happy ending with a new family.
It’s sad after the struggle of this poor doggie, his family didn’t take him back. I would have welcomed him back and rebuild our family together with the doggie. The little guy has a life he has to build up again too and he needs his family. Why not build it together…with the dog..
However, I am glad that a new family has adopted him..I am very happy about that. TR
