Improve Your Vision
We live in a multi-screen world and screens have become the overwhelmingly ubiquitous way through which we interact with the world. And with the convenience of this technology comes the problem of maintaining healthy eyes and good vision.
As most of us are fortunate enough to have a functional human body to practice the Dharma, it is important that we continue to take care and maintain our physical bodies so that we can make the most of this precious human rebirth. Do read this article and share it with your friends so that more may benefit from it.
I wish everyone well.

Throw Away Your Glasses! Thousands Of People Improved Their Vision With This Method!
Not using some muscles for quite a time it’s known that they will weaken.
A perfect example is a leg injury like a broken bone (fibula) and you’re supposed to relax and use the wheelchair for some time in order to let the bone heal. In the meantime, your muscles won’t be active and thus become weaker. This is the same with the muscles surrounding your eye lens.
If it happens that you are wearing glasses as many do and you don’t practice exercises for your eyes, your vision will slowly weaken. Your eye muscles need practice just like every other muscle in your body.
During the time spent rebuilding your vision, you should take after a few guidelines:
- Avoid hard pressure on your eyes. It is recommended to close your eyes for several minutes every 2-3 hours.
- Implement gymnastics for the eyes, which contains 16 exercises (follow these lines with your eyes) [SEE PICTURE]
- Get rid of your glasses.
- Implement everyday massage on the specific points: [SEE PICTURE]
- Apply light pressure on your eyeballs with the tips of your index and middle finger. Press the eyeball lightly so you don’t feel any pain. Then press these points with your index finger twice.
- It is necessary to look into the distance while walking outside.
- Consume carrot juice with a few drops of olive oil continuously.
- Wash your eyes with lukewarm water.
- Avoid PCs or laptops for at least 2 hours before bedtime.
- Put into practice the Indian exercise “Trataka” in order to establish your vision:
A directed, centered look is a type of reflection which coordinates the fixation at a specific point (small object, flame light, dark spot) for creating focus, reinforcing of the visual perception and bracing the third eye. This activity is called Trataka.
In the first period of the activity, you should concentrate on an image or some item and gaze at it for some time, keeping in mind the end goal to have your brain focused on the image with clear thoughts.
When tears well from your eyes, shut them and give them a rest. The point of this exercise is to endure as much as you can before tears start to flow from your eyes.

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this short article about how we can take care of our eyes. I notice more and more people especially the young kids at very young age having eye problem. It is good to know some of the tips that can help us maintain and have a healthy in the long run.

I found this article very useful 🙂 especially for people who have to do lots of computer works or who spend long hours on their phone.
I have tried to press the points around our eyes method and it’s effective to release tension around our eyes. Eyes gymnastics is helping to relax as well. Hope many can better take care of their eyes to read more good articles, do more positive works, bringing benefits to ourselves and others.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this post on how to strengthen our eye muscles and improve our vision. I think it’s time i try this article to improve my eye vision. My eyes always feels tight and blur after too long staring at the computer screen.
Thanks Rinpoche for sharing this article. Its good to know we can strengthen our eyes muscles by doing a few exercises as advice by Rinpoche. My eyesight have been not so good quite lately ,hence hopefully with eye exercises do help me at least improve my vision. .
I am sharing this knowledge with my friends ,to help them too.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this post on how to strengthen our eye muscles and improve our vision. We should give our eyes to rest and practice exercises as per advised.
I came across this interesting article on Rinpoche’s blog also which is relating to the eyes ~ Blessing Eye Problems at https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/buddhas-dharma/blessing-eye-problems.html.
If we truly follow the prayer coupled with the eye exercises, I believed that our eye vision can be improved an no longer need for the glasses.
Thanks for this sharing. My eyesight have been deteriorating recently. Both near and far becomes a challenge for me sometimes.
I would definitely try out this eyes exercise and hope my eyesight will be better. I really don’t like wearing glasses. Too uncomfortable and troublesome.
Recently I am having eyesight trouble. I have to put on reading glasses in order to have a clearer vision of words on the handphone or books. Fine prints are a challenge to me. Some said it is due to old(er) age that I am having such trouble, but I am more incline to believe that it is due to my bad habit of reading from my handphone in the dark.
I am very thankful to have come across this blogpost by Rinpoche that gives me instruction to strengthen muscles around my eye lens. I am very lucky to be born with the 10 endowments, hence will strive to take good care of what I have so that I can use them to the best of my ability for the benefit of learning and spreading dharma.
Thank you so much, Rinpoche.
Humbly, bowing down,

Our eyes are very important and we usually take them for granted. Exercising the eyes are often the last thing on my mind. I am short sighted and have astigmatism since 15 years old. Since 2 years ago, I have problems reading things near. Yes it’s time for reading glasses.
I massaged the eye areas as shown above and noticed that these areas are particularly sore. After massaging all 7 areas, the eyes felt much lighter and less tired.
I found other eye exercises online we can do that are also simple and effective.

5 Exercises to strengthen your eye muscles and improve your vision
1. Blinking
Blinking is an often overlooked yet simple way to keep your eyes fresh and being able to focus longer. Computer users and television watchers tend to blink less, especially when they are intently focused on something. Try it just now as a simple exercise. For the next two minutes blink every 3 – 4 seconds. After you have done this for two minutes, mentally take note of how your eyes feel, are they strained, relaxed, tired. Now try and not blink for 30 seconds at a time for two minutes. Do you feel any difference?
Whenever you blink your eyes are going into a brief period of darkness which helps to keep your eyes fresh and discharges previous information ready for new information, this helps to reduce eye strain.
Your blink rate can also help with your communication skills. Think about someone who looked at you intently and you possibly felt threatened by them. What you may have missed is the fact that they had stopped blinking. When someone stops blinking and stares at you when you are talking it’s a sign of aggression. However whenever you are talking to someone and they are blinking at a 3 -4 second interval it’s a sign of a relaxed and friendly listener. Check out people’s blink rates the next time you are talking. Check out this article for more info Dramatically improve your eye contact skills
2. Palming
This is done to relieve stress around the eyes and as a way to relax your eyes whilst taking a computer break.
Instructions for palming
1. Take a few deep breathes before you begin.
2. Make yourself comfortable whilst leaning forward on a desk or with your elbows resting on your knees. Close your eyes.
3. Place your two hands over your eyes with the cup of your palm covering your eyes, your fingers on your forehead and the heel of your hand will rest on your cheekbone. Make sure you can blink freely and you are not putting too much pressure on your eyes.
That’s it. Palming gives you the opportunity to rest your mind and your eyes for a few minutes at a time. It may not sound much of an exercise but it can make a big difference in your working day if you stop for a few minutes and do this exercise.
3.Figure of eight
This is to exercise your eye muscles and increase their flexibility. This is quite a simple exercise but a good one.
Imagine a giant figure of eight in front of you about 10 feet in front of you. Now turn the 8 on it’s side. Now trace the figure of eight with your eyes, slowly. Do it one way for a few minutes and then do it the other way for a few minutes. It may seem very alien at first but it’s worth persevering with it.
4.Near and far focusing
This is one of my favourite exercises as you can do it almost anywhere, I say almost as I couldn’t imagine doing it on the underground without getting strange looks from those around me.
Instructions for Near and far focusing.
Sit in a comfortable position, or stand, this will only take 2-3 minutes at a time.
Put your thumb about 10 inches in front of you and focus on it. Now focus on something else about 10 – 20 feet in front of you. On each deep breath switch between focusing on your thumb and the 10-20 feet object in front of you.
This will strengthen the muscles in your eyes over time and improve your vision overall.
5.Zooming
This is another one of my favourites as it is very easy and quick to do.
Instructions for zooming
Sit in a comfortable position
Stretch out your arm with your thumb in the hitchhike position
Focus on your thumb as your arm is outstretched.
Now bring your thumb closer to you, focussing all the time, until your thumb is about 3 inches in front of your face.
Now move your thumb away again until your arm is fully outstretched.
Do this for a few minutes at a time throughout the day.
Thank you Rinpoche. Those eye gymnastics really do good. I must remember to do them more often.
Dear Rinpoche,
This post was very handy. 8D Thank you for this post.
Your humble student,
Keng Hwa.
I just did the eye gymnastics recommended in the first diagram and it brought immediate relief. Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this information!
When you stare at the computer (or any screen) for a long time, it puts a strain on your eye muscles that over time, you become accustomed to. But just because you become accustomed to it, does not mean it’s the right thing. It’s only when exercises like these call attention to the muscles, do you remember they’re there and you’re using them wrong!
Beatrix and I are also restarting our daily walks today, as those really help to loosen our muscles, lift the strain from our eyes and get us off our seats, and improve our attention spans. I guess that takes care of Point #6 😀
