This is wonderful
Pastor Shin during a puja session
Pastor Shin on Sin Chew Newspaper!
Just recently, Pastor Shin Tan appeared in a local Chinese newspaper called Sin Chew Daily. I have known Pastor Shin since 2006, when she first attended a teaching I gave in Kechara House. She was very new to Buddhism at that time, but she was very interested. Not long after that, she left her lecturing job and joined our publishing house. 8 years later, Pastor Shin have grew so much spiritually and will be ordained as a nun in the near future to be one of Kechara’s first batch of nuns.
I thought I’d share this newspaper column to encourage Pastor Shin to practice Dharma with great determination and continue her dedicated actions to benefit society. I am very glad and proud of who Pastor Shin have became after so many years of Dharma practice and learning. Pastor Shin is an honest, direct and very simple person. She is not after anything material and when she applies herself to something, she will go all the way with it. She is not so stiff either as she enjoys good jokes and quite humorous. If you ask Pastor Shin for help, rarely will she say no depending on her schedule. She is genuinely helpful, sincere and very much puts her heart into the dharma. I enjoy working with her very much as she is not only spiritual but very sincere. I respect and care about her and her welfare very much. She has a special place in my prayers to Almighty Buddha always.
I wish her the best from the deepest part of my heart and I wish her spiritual journey to reach full fruition.
Sincerely,
Tsem Rinpoche
[English translation of the news column]
My name is Shin Tan, I am a Pastor.
The improvements in material well-being didn’t bring about the increase of happiness. In this era where materialism is in power, we always think that money can buy anything, including “joy” and “experience”.
If money can indeed begets happiness, the more new things and new experiences we own, shouldn’t we be happier?
Why is it that after the pursuit of a new designer handbag, an overseas trip, a new mobile phone, a new relationship we still feel depressed and perplexed?
Knowing how to let go is knowing how to live. What should we let go of? Let go of the unnecessary things in life – the inner greed, distracting thoughts, being negative, complaining and inferiority complex, as well as being overconcern about ourselves and others.

I’ve known Pastor Shin for about 8 years or so. She’s come a long way, and one thing I remember that always is very strong in her is her passion for Dharma. I met her when we were doing prostrations in Kechara House 1. She had the tenacity to do prostrations at 12am even though she was NEW to Kechara and what we were doing. I thought that was quite ambitious of her but I also notice that this person was passionate about Dharma, different from others her age.
I really rejoice in seeing her flourish in to a Pastor and giving teachings to many. Her tireless selflessness in serving others is admirable as she is always patient and ever ready to help anyone. She is truly inspiring, and I am certain she will grow further to benefit more beings and many others will be touched and inspired to do good because of she walking the talk. REJOICE AND CONGRATULATIONS Pastor Shin!

Rejoice on Pastor Shin news on Sin Chew.
We had a wonderful opportunity to hear of her Dharma teaching for Year 1 Dharma class. She was very inspiring, lively, relates very much to our current generation and certainly reflecting the qualities of our Guru, Tsem Rinpoche. I rejoice for her and may she is continually protected by the Three Jewels on her way to become a nun.
Indeed true…. ‘if money can begets happiness, the more new things and new experiences we own, shouldn’t we be happier?’. We even have the latest technologies where distance is no longer a barrier and yet the ‘warmth’ of relationship is slowly dissipating.
I believe Pastor Shin is a very knowledgeable and helpful person as her name being mentioned numerous time in this blog. On top of that, she has courageously chosen to become a nun too, a path that is difficult to most of us. May she becomes a lineage holder and may all her obstacles be cleared in her journey towards enlightenment.
I have recently got the chance to taste Pastor Shin’s mock meat in soy sauce. It’s delicious. She cooks still when she is busy with her schedule. She might not that type of person who spoke softly but direct, however she is with a soft heart and caring.
I like her smile, the picture she smiles gently with Pastor Moh Mei in Dukkar Apartments while serving food to other is a proof! Hihi.
I wish Pastor Shin always in good health and happy. Thank you Rinpoche for sharing, wish Rinpoche and US Team all in good health as well.
Pastor Shin always makes sure we are well fed! She take cares of little details and is very good at dharma courses and programmes planning. She is someone you can trust to get the work done to the meticulous point. I’ve enjoyed working with Pastor Shin and is very proud to have her on the spiritual path.
Pastor Shin is very helpful and caring. When she has time, she will cook up a storm. She also have very deep knowledge of Dharma and she reads and research a lot. She can be funny at times. She is indeed a friend. Thank you for your contribution.
Pastor Shin has always been very kind and sweet person. She treats everyone and every being that she meet along her way with great care, love, and respect. I remember when I was in the ladrang for a period of time, she always care for me, making sure that I am okay. Even now, when I am not near her, she would just send cute little pictures to me just to make my day even better. She expects nothing in return for doing all these things for the people around her.
I truly respect her for who she is, and also for all the different kind of care and concern she shows to all walks of life she come across.
Pastor Shin is nice and sincere. Although I do not interact much with her, I can hear many positive things about her personality and attitude. She is a gem to be around with.
I am happy that Kechara is nurturing so many Pastors that brings up the good name of Kechara, and in future, the sangha community to uphold the good name.
Pastor Shin has come a long way. I truly rejoice for what she has achieved, she sees the value in Dharma and not only she learn but she shares it too by letting go of her secular life. Pastor Shin is very knowledgeable and helpful, anytime you need, she will be there. She takes good care of the Dharma brothers and sisters too, she will often cooks or makes some Chinese Herbal drinks for their wellbeings.
I am really looking forward to the day when Pastor Shin will wear the robes.
I had the great fortune to be able to sit in one of Pastor Shin’s recent classes on the 8 Verses of Thoughts Transformation.
