‘The Promise’ launch on national TV
July 26, 2012 was the official launch of my biography, The Promise. Various people from the media came, including Malaysia’s national television station, NTV7, and one of Malaysia’s top high society magazine, Malaysian Tatler. I didn’t plan to attend the launch initially, as I thought of just letting my liaisons and Kechara staff handle the event. However, an hour before the event, I thought “Who better to explain about me either than… me?” So I decided to go for the launch at Kechara House to briefly explain how and why the biography book came to be.
At the launch, I expressed how I didn’t want to make a biography about my life. I have never felt that I have led an interesting life… But one of my teachers advised me several times to get my biography done as it would benefit many people who read it. I don’t think I’m inspiring, but I trust my teacher and he said it would benefit many others… so I can only humbly accept and go all the way with it. I procrastinated getting the project started till 2010, where a handful of my students went to Taiwan and USA to research about my background.
I have lived in beautiful Malaysia for over 20 years. As an official permanent resident of Malaysia and having so many of my close friends here, Malaysia is a place that I can call home. This country has been good to me in so many ways. I hope that together with my Malaysian friends, we can contribute back to society on a larger scale than what we have done so far. That is my true wish, to bring peace and harmony to our country… by building holistic centres, animal sanctuaries, orphanages and also large Buddha statues to dedicate it to our wonderful government for stability and prosperity. I do not wish to convert people into Buddhism, I have never believed in converting because I find all religions to be beautiful and respect their traditions and beliefs.
I have big plans and big dreams but alone I can’t achieve it, therefore it is my wish to have other like-minded people to walk this journey with me to create a better place for us to live in. I feel that Malaysia is the right place to do so with our rich culture, diverse heritage and religious freedom. If all goes well, Malaysia will be my home till my very last breath.
I thank all of those who came, both media and guests… and especially to NTV 7 who aired the event during a prime time slot! A few other media representatives that I would also like to express my thanks and appreciation for featuring the biography are:
- Malaysian Tatler, where ‘The Promise’ book launch will be featured in their August issue under ‘Events’.
- Reviews by New Straits Time, The Sun and Prestige.
- Reviews and press release by China Press, Oriental Daily, and Sin Chew.
- Bernama TV, which will be interviewing Liaison Li Kim in two weeks time on our books from Kechara Media Publications and Tsem Rinpoche’s Paranormal Zone.
I would also like to thank someone who just recently joined Kechara, Nadia Gideon. I know that both Nadia and Liaison Sharon Saw (together with many others) have worked hard to make this event happen.

A poem inspired by seeing a picture of my teacher, Kyabje Zong Rinpoche…
In the sport of correct views,
all that is correct is just a view,
without permanence or substance.
As long as we hold onto views,
our sufferings are gathered
to be experienced without end.
Without the strong methods of emptiness
and compassion, bereft of merit,
we sink deeper without respite.
To arise from this samsara is but
a dreamscape on the deluded mind.
Therefore seek the guru, who confers the yidam,
hold your vows and fixate on liberation
free of new creations. Free of new experiences as
there are none.

I was walking past a second hand shop on Western Ave selling old things. They had a Japanese-style clay Buddha which was beige in colour on the floor, holding the door open. I thought the shopkeeper would collect a lot of negative karma without knowing if he kept such a holy item on the floor as a doorstop. So I went in to talk to him, but he didn’t look like he wanted to talk or that he even cared. So I asked him the price and he said US$5. I purchased it so he did not collect more negative karma. I was 17 years old and that was in 1982.
I escorted my new Buddha home and washed it lightly and wiped it. I placed it on my altar and was happy with the Buddha. I would do my meditations, prayers, sadhanas, mantras and prostrations in front of this shrine daily. When I left for India in 1987, I could not bring this Buddha along and gave it to a friend. It was a nice size and I made offerings to this Buddha for many years in Los Angeles. In front of the Buddha I placed His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s photo. I remember I was so relieved that the price was affordable. But US$5 that time was still expensive for me but worth it I thought. But I was happy to have brought the Buddha home. Tsem Rinpoche

So happy to see that Rinpoche on national TV. This helps to promote Rinpoche so that more people can be benefited from his teaching!
This video is played on the KO Charity Buffet Dinner yesterday. A friend of mine saw this and get interested into Rinpoche’s life story. She has also brought a copy of “The Promise” home! Rejoice that a connection has been created between her & Rinpoche.
May more people able to get to know Rinpoche and benefited from his teachings.
Thank you NTV7, Sharon, Nadia & all that made this happened!
It is really time for Malaysia to know about Kechara and this TV interview would have reached out to more people and perhaps plant the seeds of Buddhism in their minds. They may not come to Kechara but it would inspire them to be Buddhist or to learn more about Buddhism. Rinpoche gracing the launching ceremony would have planted much imprints in the minds of many who view them.
Of course by comtemplating on how lucky we are to have Buddha’s teachings daily, is of the greatest good fortune of all than any other meaningless attachments. Because, at the time of death, all these attachments are meaningless and they bring no benefit, no matter how much meanings we may pretend they have. We should put our full attention to our Dharma practice and work absolutely hard at it. Its time now to be aware and walk the path of Dharma. Of course undoubtedly, walking up the path of Dharma is hard and requires extreme efforts, but when we reach the top and look back, we will have no regrets, as said by our Guru. The harder we keep at walking on upwards, it gets easier. Nothing comes easy without effort and hardwork!
Because of The Promise, more people get to know Rinpoche’s story, and from this, people believe how much determination Rinpoche has to accomplish something great to benefit others. This also a prove that what Rinpoche wants to do in the future is not only empty words.
What Rinpoche has gone through inspired people from all walks of life. For people who are already succeed in their life,Rinpoche’s story inspired them to use their skill, resources or whatever they have to help and benefits more people, and this is what define our life. For people who are still struggling, Rinpoche’s story motivate them to be stronger and tough.
I am happy to see Rinpoche on that day. Thank you Rinpoche for everything!
When I watched the video, my heart was smiling with great joys. It is such a wonderful thing to have Rinpoche to be on the prime time slot on TV. I feel that through this event Rinpoche’s presence and works can be made known to more people and all Rinpoche’s visions can arrive more easily.
Rinpoche’s article here while short but it is filled with so much things that warm my heart – Guru devotion, Respect to all religions, Humility and Kindness to all. How fortunate is Malaysia to have Rinpoche here and how fortunate are we to have Rinpoche here to be our Guru.
This event is definately helpful and meaningful. Thank you Sharon, Nadia and the team who altogether made this a success!
Love it Love it Love it! It was a surprise visit from Rinpoche. The launch was smooth and interesting especially when Rinpoche gave His short speech in front of the camera. We rushed home to watch the news later at night. Even recorded it with my mobile phone. Rinpoche look so good on television with His beautiful speech!

I am very very glad to see Rinpoche attended the event. Rinpoche’s presence definitely is the best for the media to know about Rinpoche.
With more people know about Rinpoche and Rinpoche’s plans, it helps them to know about Dharma, and it also have chance for them to help Rinpoche and Kechara. This is so beneficial in all angle, that’s why we need to do more to let people know about Rinpoche and Kechara.
Beside, everyone should read The Promise. It’s a book that will definitely blow your mind. Thanks to KMP and the bio team. You guys did a fantastic job! ^^
We were very happy when Rinpoche was featured in NTV7 prime news. It is hope that through NTV7 and The Promise book, many people will get to know Rinpoche better, his very moving life story and where we will be in the future. Hopefully more like-minded people will come on board and get to know us and to be part of Kechara organization.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this with us.
I wish TR will b here in Singapore too…
As a long time student of Rinpoche, I am so happy that Rinpoche finally agreed for us to travel to USA and Taiwan to do research of his past and publish this book. His story is so inspiring. We are talking about ‘a man living in our time’ not a story that happened 100 years ago! I am sure everyone who reads it can relate to it.
Rinpoche’s Facebook Fanpage has 151K ‘Like’ to date and the number of ‘Like’ on the post of The Promise has 2,469 ‘Like’ to date. That is the number of people whose lives he may have touched from this book. May The Promise benefit all those who read it as it did for me and so many others.
Rinpoche was already benefiting many people in Malaysia and across the globe. now that he is a permanent resident Rinpoche’s potential to benefit using Malaysia as a launchpad is exponentially increased. Rinpoche please stay long to turn the wheel of dharma.
Awesome! So happy to see Rinpoche, The Promise and Kechara news broadcasted on local television.
May this attract more and more like-minded people get together to make many many plans to bring peace and eternal happiness to all, not only Malaysians but to people in this region and beyond manifest.
It was a historical day for Kecharians.May all of Rinpoche’s wishes be fulfilled to bring harmony and peace to all.We must work together to achieve this dream and for Rinpoche to be with us till his last breath.
Rest well and may Rinpoche always be healthy.
Rinpoche’s motivation is to live to benefit others, mainly Malaysians and people in the region. Friends and Kecharians – do come and lend your support (financial, skills, time, effort) towards projects mentioned ie. Kechara Forest Retreat, whether you are near or far.
Rinpoche is nothing but interesting and inspiring. Everyone would not view their own troubles in the same way after reading what Rinpoche had to suffer to bring Dharma to us. How fortunate for us to have met with him and to receive such precious teachings. May Rinpooche live a very long and healthy life to continue benefitting others with “the way of life”, with finding happiness for oneself and others.
It was a great day! More, more of this!
Super Super awesome!!! I really wish more people join us for all Kechara Projects so that all of us can benefit more people and make our Dharma work flourish. I am sure RInpoche’s teaching will speard all over the world and benefit many. We love you RInpoche 🙂
