This Won’t End Well – U.S. Just Sent an Entire Carrier Strike Group to Confront China
On Thursday, the US Navy announced they dispatched a small armada to the South China Sea. Consisting of the John C. Stennis aircraft carrier, two cruisers, two destroyers, and the 7th Fleet flagship, the US is making their mission clear — we are not scared of kicking off World War III.
Confirmed by the Navy Times, the stand-off has been heating up on both sides. After news in February that the Chinese deployed an advanced surface-to-air missile battery to the Paracel Islands, U.S. Pacific Command head Adm. Harry Harris told lawmakers that China was militarizing the South China Sea.
“In my opinion, China is clearly militarizing the South China Sea,” Harris testified on Feb. 24. “You’d have to believe in a flat Earth to believe otherwise.”
However, China is not the nation sending warships halfway across the globe in a clear attempt to provoke a fight.
While China is no saint, they are not the country with nearly 700 military bases in dozens of countries across the globe who’ve been responsible for the total destruction of multiple nation-states in just the past decade.
The reason the Chinese have shown a military presence in the region is due to the nature of the dispute over who lays claim to the Paracel Islands chain.
The Paracel Islands, also known as Xisha in Chinese and Hoàng Sa in Vietnamese, is a group of islands, reefs, banks and other maritime features in the South China Sea. It is controlled (and occupied) by the People’s Republic of China and also claimed by Taiwan and Vietnam.
This dispute over who lays claim to the region dates back decades, and physical violence has erupted between the disputing parties on multiple occasions as recently as 1974. However, since then, the dispute has remained peaceful — until now.
The US is attempting to claim that the Chinese presence in the region is some new conflict and are touting strawmen such as closed trade routes as a reason for flexing their military sway. But there is no evidence that trade will be affected at all.
No country in their right mind would hinder its ability to export, and China shows no signs of halting exports any time soon.
Stating the obvious, Fu Ying, a spokeswoman for China’s National People’s Congress said,
“The accusation [that China is militarizing the region] can lead to a miscalculation of the situation. If you take a look at the matter closely, it’s the US sending the most advanced aircraft and military vessels to the South China Sea.”
Defense Secretary Ash Carter seems hell bent on escalating the situation. On Tuesday, Carter, in an evident failure of logic and confirming Ying’s statement, warned China to halt their militarization of the region, or the US will further militarize the region.
Backing up Ying’s claims about US militarization, Carter noted that the US is unafraid of increasing military deployments to the Asia-Pacific region and would spend nearly $425 million to pay for more joint military exercise with countries that feel threatened by Beijing.
“China must not pursue militarization in the South China Sea,” Carter said in a speech in San Francisco. “Specific actions will have specific consequences.”
As the global economy teeters on the edge of collapse, the U.S. has ramped up its saber rattling, not only with China but with the Russians as well. While America spends more on war than anyone else in the world, the idea that they can take on China and Russia simultaneously is deadly insane.

China and US have been heard lock for years on and off for unnecessary . Conflicts arise when two parties do not agree in certain things. In long run it might ending in misunderstandings and even war. It can result in massive civilian and other non-combatant suffering . Lack of common understanding, poor communication skills, unfair expectations, power plays and manipulations. All these can be avoided provided they seek common ground. The most serious trouble in recent decades has flared between US and China claiming territory in the resource-rich South China Sea, which is also an important shipping route. The US Navy had dispatched a small armada to the area. Paracel Islands chain is controlled by the China and also claimed by Taiwan and Vietnam. The US claimed that the trade routes will be affected with the Chinese presence in the region. I do hope this conflict is resolved for the sake of the regions around those chain of Paracel islands.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.
China will be an enemy like no other that the Americans has faced before.
It will not be a clean and pretty war at all, and worst case scenario it can escalate into a full scale nuclear engagement.
If America wants to retain ‘Big Brother’ role in the world that should not be achieved with more conflict. America rose to its prominence and pinnacle of its strength from the ashes of world War 2. It has since meddled in the affairs of countless nations, leading to so much strife and suffering. There will be a day of reckoning for the Americans, I do think the Americans should not push their luck so far.
It is so funny to see that we are one race and yet we separate ourselves with imaginary borders called race, religion, countries. Why do we have to be against each other. We are the race that dominates this earth and yet we will never be harmonious with ourselves.
I really hope that this conflict is resolved without any suffering and that we can not fight with each other. It is just so unnecessary.
Sigh. More conflict in the world.
If there is one thing I’ve learned in the last few years, it is that the escalation of conflict always lies in my hands. Regardless of whether I am wrong or right, if I don’t want the conflict to be prolonged and escalate, just shut up and let the other person win. Then everyone can get on with whatever it is they are supposed to be doing, and everyone can get along.
Of course it doesn’t mean being a pushover, but it also means not having to be combative all of the time.
I get it that countries have to protect their own and ensure the welfare of their citizens, and that if you give an inch people will take a mile but I really do hate all of this political and military posturing, and the grandoise statements and assertions of power and might. I’m so glad Rinpoche and Dorje Shugden stopped me so many years ago from studying politics and going into politics as I planned to do, but now I realise I would’ve become disillusioned very quickly.
Violence begets violence. Many innocent people die as a result of wars. The Americans seem to use any excuse to create wars with no hesitation. And the sad thing is that they always portray themselves as saving the world with their military might.
When we read from other sources outside of the US, they have a very different point of view.
Regardless, I don’t agree that war is always the solution. Peaceful dialogues should always come first. Human civilization has fought countless wars. It is always the civilians who suffer the most. In my opinion, we should learn from our past mistakes and not create more sufferings for others.
The U.S. Navy with such frightful and hostile display of militaty deployments, consisting of an Amarda of warships and weapons, look more like they are preparing for a third World war, instead of just to pacify a stand-off in peace with China over the Paracel Islands claimed by Taiwan and Vientiane, occupied and controlled by China in the south china sea. The waters of south china sea in recent years have been a stage for tussles of dominance between the World’s two largest powers, ie the U.S. and China. In today’s modern and civilised World,it is believed that any legitimate political issues between member countries of UN such as the aforesaid mentioned, should deserve peaceful, diplomatic, sincere and lawful negotiations between the aggrieved parties, without the show of powerful and deadly warlike threats to each other! Thereafter, you still have the UN international Tribunal based in Hague to takecare of, whatsoever thereafter. We deeply pray and hope that all aggrieved parties will exercise all sincerity to work towards a peaceful, happy and successful end for the sake of all beings. Om Mani Padme Hung.
