UN Denies Naming ‘Point of Contact’ For Aliens
The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs on Tuesday dismissed as “nonsense” a newspaper report which said it had appointed a new ambassador as a point of contact for extra-terrestrials.
“The article in the Sunday Times is nonsense,” UNOOSA said in a statement, referring to a report this weekend which said the UN was to appoint Malaysian astrophysicist, Mazlan Othman, to be the first contact for any aliens.
Othman heads UNOOSA, a little-known department of the UN based in Vienna with a staff of 27.
Under a mandate defined by the UN General Assembly, UNOOSA’s task is to promote international cooperation in the peaceful uses of outer space and strengthen the use of space science and technology applications.
“There are no plans to change the current mandate,” the statement said.
According to the Sunday Times article, Othman was set to describe her potential new role as chief alien ambassador next week at a scientific conference at the Royal Society’s Kavli conference centre in Buckinghamshire, England.
But UNOOSA also rejected this.
Othman would use the conference to “raise awareness” about topics such as space debris, asteroids, “as well as the annual World Space Week celebrations from October 4-10.”
In an interview with AFP a year ago, Othman had joked that the UN Secretary General would be the one to “represent mankind … if we do make contact with aliens.”

This news albeit out-dated turns out to be an interesting read. I do not recall of a Malaysian, Mazlan Othman being appointed as the chief of UNOOSA. Well, unless we google her. The reported new mandate of UNOOSA i.e. “the first point of contact with aliens,” was also set to stir our interest. It is logical to imagine that we must have been in touch with aliens hence the need to appoint a “first point of contact.” So is it safe to say that we shall be seeing or reading more of the communication with aliens, despite in the pretext of space debris, asteroids? 🙂
I wikipedia-searched Mazlan Othman and it is stated that she is indeed appointed. – Here is what is says – Mazlan Binti Othman (born December 11, 1951) is a Malaysian astrophysicist who has served in several roles within her country, and as Director of the “United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs” in Vienna. This is very interesting and I wonder what does she know of the UN’s dealings with ETs. Maybe the name of her department is totally unrelated to UFOs and ETs but it sure sounds like it does.
The truth shall prevail – “Paper cannot contain fire”. Buddha would probably smile at all that, KNOWINGLY. We should smile, CONFIDENTLY.
Lol It’s not like a newspaper to make a mistake like that. It’s a cover up!
I was referring to pilots that spotted alien ships that stood perfectly still in mid air and hovered over nuclear missile plants as if they were monitoring them. No question about it here in U.S.A. Don’t know about other parts of world like Iran, maybe they would not tell anyway!!!
