Water: The Free Cure!
Personally, I don’t enjoy drinking water… but have always been told by people that drinking water is good for our health. As there are increasingly tastier substitutes, it’s easier to go for days without drinking a single glass of water!
I came across an article below that influences their readers to view water as medicine. Apparently, using water as a treatment is commonly done in many alternative medical therapies. Although there may not be any solid proof of curing diseases, the benefit of cleansing and hydrating the body is itself a good daily practice. Of course if you do have serious medical conditions, you should definitely visit your local doctor!
Benefits such as increasing energy, reducing fatigue, improving skin complexion, maintaining body regularity… are just some of the benefits from drinking lots of water. Do read up on the routine below that you can easily apply into your daily life. I wish for everyone to have great health so that you can continue to practice the Dharma and be of benefit to others.

USING WATER AS A MEDICINE : DRINKING WATER ON EMPTY STOMACH
A current trend in Japan today is drinking water immediately after getting out of bed. Scientific tests have confirmed the medical value of this practice. This water treatment has been confirmed by Japanese medical authorities to completely cure certain diseases, whether they are more serious or simply mild afflictions. A list of these diseases follows:
Headaches, Body aches, Arthritis, Heart problems, Epilepsy, Obesity, Tuberculosis, Meningitis, Kidney diseases, Vomiting, Gastritis, Diabetes, Constipation, Uterine diseases, Ear and throat diseases.
The Method
- When you wake up, before doing anything, drink four 6 ounce glasses of water, or 160 milliliters. (If for any reason you cannot drink this much water at one time, you may start with as much water as you can drink, then gradually increase the amount.)
- Brush your teeth and perform basic oral hygiene, then wait 45 minutes before eating or drinking anything.
- After the 45 minute waiting period you may eat and drink normally.
- Once a meal is completed, do not eat or drink anything for 2 hours.
Specific Diseases
Using the above method, the research indicates the number of days the regimen must be followed to cure each disease.
- High blood pressure – 30 days
- Gastric problems – 10 days
- Diabetes – 30 days
- Constipation – 10 days
- Cancer – 180 days
- Tuberculosis – 90 days
- Arthritis – use the method for only 3 days the first week, then return to the regular daily regimen
Using this treatment method has no side effects other than increased urination at the beginning of the program. Drinking water and staying healthy and active are ways that will better out lives. Including this water drinking regimen will also help you to stay healthy.
Both the Chinese and Japanese drink hot tea with their meals instead of cold water. Cold water slows down the digestive process and solidifies the oily foods you have just eaten. Once these solidified oils react with the stomach acid, it is absorbed more quickly by the intestine and lines the intestinal wall. The long term accumulation of these digested oils can lead to cancer. Perhaps Western cultures should adopt this practice, as there is everything to gain and nothing to lose.
About Heart Attacks
Women should be aware that pain in the left arm is not the only a sign of a heart attack.
A heart attack may occur even without a chest pain.
Other symptoms of a heart attack are nausea and intense sweating.
About 60 percent of people who have a heart attack while sleeping do not wake up.
Be aware of any pain that is in the jaw. You may be awaken from a sound sleep by this type of pain. It could be a sign of a heart attack.
Let us be careful and notice the possible symptoms of a heart attack. One cardiologist says that if we are willing to send this to everyone we know, and they do the same, at least one life will be saved.

Water is the best liquid to keep the body well hydrated and healthy, contributing to the well-being of the blood vessels. However, drinking plenty of water is a great and cheap way to improve blood circulation naturally. I found this is a surprising health benefits that water could prevent, relieve and cure many painful, degenerative diseases.
Thank you for the discovering and sharing. Hope to start to practice them soon.
Drinking water has so much benefits to our body, especially hot water. A friend of mine always has good complextion, he said the first thing he does everyday is drink one litre hot water, and this method could cure high blood pressure too. Many of his friends practice this everyday and they are very healthy.
Thank you Rinpoche for explaining to us how cold water bring effects to our body. It slows down our digestive process and solidifies the oily foods we have just eaten. “Once these solidified oils react with the stomach acid, it is absorbed more quickly by the intestine and lines the intestinal wall. The long term accumulation of these digested oils can lead to cancer.”
I hope more people take less western medicines, to find natural ways to heal their body. Taking western medicines is a vicious cycle to our kidney. Everyone should be aware of it and practice from daily life to let the body get back to heal itself.
Interesting to know that drinking water alone can cure diseases. Generally I think drinking more water is good for us a it will detox our body. 70% of our body is made of water and therefore we need to drink a lot to maintain a good health. We can don’t eat but a person cannot survive without water. And that shows how important is water to us. Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this article.
Thank you very much Rinpoche for sharing this information for water free cure. It’s quite an eye opener for treating so many types of ailments.
Water or H2O is another element of nature we have taken for granted. How much do we even know about water? In physics, one of the thing that has always amazed me since young about water is what I considered the “Trinity” – solid, liquid, gas. Water is all around us. It’s in the air, it’s in the ground, it’s even inside us. It is said the human body is 50-60% water.
Water is “free” in that it comes from nature through rain, river, snow, melted ice, sea, etc. Most of us in developed countries pay for clean water facilities but if we know how to harvest nature, water is “free”.
If we are to study about water, it could probably be an entire academic faculty to itself. My most recent discovery about water is from attending the Inner Peace program at Kechara Forest Retreat. It brought my attention to the comparison between water and our mind. Like the famous Japanese phrase mizu no kokoro.
I have my doubts whether water can really cure those specific diseases but drinking water can definitely do more good than harm. It is just that there are too many other factors contributing to our human bodily diseases these days that applying one specific method would probably not be 100% effective in curing. It may help slow down some effects of diseases or keep some at bay and that in itself is good enough. It’s a hassle free, low cost and convenient habit to have to stay healthy.
Thx Rinpoche for sharing. I did hear about how this long time ago but seldom practice it.Water is most cheaper and easier to access to be a detoxification .if we need water to be absorb optimally then. We must drink water often buy small volume.anyway, please don’t waste water and save the world.
Thank you Rinpoche for this good sharing. I love drinking water, and I used to drink a lot daily. The highest record I have is 6 liter, my ex roomate told me you drink water like nobody does..lol..but after that as this job is too busy, I even do not have time to drink water, probably is only 2 liter a day. Drinking more water is a habit and it can be trained, that is no harm but benefit. Starting from today, I will use this method to get healthier body, and I hope everybody does the same.
Indeed water does help heal some sickness.
Even though it is hard to believe drinking water before you sleep can prevent you from getting heart attacks.
Together with quenching your thirst , drinking water also helps you to flush out bacteria and harmful substances stuck in your system by coming out with your urine.
What’s more all living things can make use of it!!
Water also helps plants and other things grow. And that’s what makes it so important.
Nowadays we don’t think of drinking water to hydrate ourselves as there are so much more other ways to hydrate yourself.
Nevertheless it is still and important part of life in all living things.
Thank you Rinpoche for your kind sharing and reminder on the importance to keep our body hydrated to avoid sickness and suffering. We always know that Rinpoche always concern about our well being in mind where ever he is. Thank you Rinpoche.
