Feeling hungry? You may want to read the rest of this article before you head to your favorite fast food restaurant and order your usual chemical and prescription drug-ridden meal. Did you know you’re likely eating crushed beetles and or duck feathers with your fast food burger? Here are some of the most disgusting additives you’re eating when you hit the drive-thru:
Please share this for every one who is still fast asleep!
1. Ammonium Sulfate
Nothing helps mass-produce bread like ammonium sulfate. Unfortunately, nothing fertilizers soil or kills bugs like it either. Read more about ammonium sulfate and other nasty bread additives here.
2. Silicone Oil
Chicken McNuggets are full of dimethylpolysiloxane, a silicone oil that is often used for making contact lenses and other medical items. Learn more about your beloved McNuggets here.
3. Cysteine-L
Fast food restaurants use Cysteine-L, an amino acid synthesized from human hair or duck feathers, to flavor their meat and soften their breads and pastries.
4. TBHQ
This additive can be found in 18 McDonald’s menu items. It’s potentially lethal, but don’t worry, the FDA says it’s generally regarded as safe (GRAS). Learn more about TBHQ here.
5. Propylene Glycol
Propylene glycol is a chemical compound that can be found in anti-freeze, e-cigarettes, and that’s right! Fast food!
6. Prescription Drugs
By testing feathers, researchers from Johns Hopkins University found some very interesting characteristics of factory-farm-raised poultry. And you thought the pink slime scandal was bad? Anti-depressants as well as other prescription drugs are added to chicken feed for fast food “poultry” items. That’s right, those McChicken sandwiches and McNuggets come from chickens that were raised on a steady diet of prescription, over-the-counter, and even banned drugs. Learn more about it here.
7. Dimethylpolysiloxane
You’ll find this in almost any fried fast food menu item and also in silly putty, contact lenses, caulking, shampoo and conditioners, cosmetics, polishes, heat resistant tiles, and the list goes on… Click here to learn more about Dimethylpolysiloxane.
8. Carminic Acid
Synthesized by Cochineal beetles, Carminic acid is used to dye foods, especially meats, red. You can learn more about the beetles in your food here.
9. Cellulose
You’ll find this organic compound, which is produced from wood pulp, in nearly every fast food menu item. Click here to learn more about cellulose.
10. Silicon Dioxide
This industrial sand is used in things like Wendy’s chili to keep it from clumping together. Mmm… industrial sand. Learn more about silicon dioxide here.

It’s shocking yet unbelievable of Mc D product. How many of them who eats this food actually know what is really in the food or how it was made?
Fast food is popular because it’s convenient to get especially in this hustle lifestyle, we as a society need to stop eating fast food because it causes many health issues in long run. These facts are great to explore that fast food is a silent killer.
Just pick to be vegetarian and stay healthy by maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Thank you for the sharing.
Yes after reading this article you will not want to eat McDonald’s ever again! Go vegetarian or vegan, it is a better choice and you will be healthier.
Being a vegetarian one looks for many sources of food, and becomes adept and have more resources to find sustenance. So I am happy to say that when I am hungry I do not need to resort to eating MacD. What a lot of these fast food chains serves out, do remind me a lot about some of the food scandals coming out of China, like people making eggs out of chemicals, milk powder that wasn’t milk powder. So always good to read the ingredients of what we wish to put into our mouths.
Such information on the questionable and even harmful ingredients that go into processed food especially fast food are not new discoveries and have been widely circulated to the public at large. Yet, the extent that people continue to consume fast food despite such awareness is actually quite alarming. In fact, fast food has been one of the recession proof industries during the economic downturn.
Recalled having watched a documentary in which a guy took on an experiment himself whereby for 30 straight days, he ate nothing but food from McDonald’s for all his 3 meals. Apparently he even only drank beverages from McDonalds’s including bottled water. His documentary, “Super Size Me” went on to win a prize in the Sundance Film Festival and whilst it created quite a buzz then as the film actually shows how the guy’s physical condition suffer day by day and also how health complications crept up so quickly on him as a result of such diet. People were generally shocked and even horrified that the detrimental effects were so obvious. It was said that sales were slightly affected after it came out but that only lasted for a short while as McDonald’s sales not only went back to normal thereafter, but continues to reflect healthy profitability growth to date.
Interestingly, based on many surveys, people who thought fast food was unhealthy ate as much of it as those who didn’t think this. This really goes to show that draw of convenience outweighs health considerations. Perhaps then the focus should not only be more of telling people about the unhealthiness of fast food but also to emphasize on the convenience and quick or efficient preparation of nutritious alternatives to fast food.
It is inevitable to find unnatural or inedible items inside processed food, especially meat. This is not new as many articles had been circulating on both mainstream and non-mainstream media educating consumers on the how unhygienic and unhealthy processed food can be. Unfortunately mankind being the forgetful species that we are, tend to selective ignore these messages as processed food like McDonalds are convenience to obtain and come at a reasonable price. The whole point that stood out when I read this article is that: we have a choice, we all do. But many of us choose the easy way out and continue to consume what is unhealthy or dirty – oh my goodness, look at the items found meshed up in your fast food! So, be prepared to face the music – obesity, cancer, heart disease, etc etc, without complaints. Thank you admin for posting this article to remind us.
These reports are preposterous to say the least these fast food is actually slowly and surely poisoning us unknowingly. By ingesting these chemicals which our body cannot assimilate which over time burdens the liver, kidneys because it is very difficult to process and get rid of it.
These chemicals are mainly petroleum by products which also hurts many other organs. Foods that we consume particularly meat take a lot time for digestion because our digestive system and colon lengths are approximately thirty feet. It takes a while and before it could goes to the colon it will go through fermentation, putrefaction and if there is insufficient water it stays lodge in our intestines and if it is not discharged it will turns into gas whereby it is reabsorb into our blood system which may lead to blood poisoning.
It is very sad affair that young children are turning to fast food constantly and daily without realizing its consequences, take for instance the chicken are fed with hormones and injected with anti-biotics. Kids these days grows much bigger and taller which unsuspectingly comes from hormones of these farmed chickens, there are insufficient regulatory government agency to monitor them. I have heard of anti-biotics meant for human which were used on the chickens resulting in causing a cross contamination which is also a suspecting cause of bird flu.
Beta agonist are being used on cows , pigs and many farmed animals because these chemicals would somehow help produce more lean meat, the side effect needless to say is that it is detrimental particularly to older people which can cause heart palpitation.
The effects on health from these fast food is very alarming yet it is not highlight enough from the government there are many more worrisome damaging reports on fast food but list is too long to be included here. My advice is stay away from fast food or if you want to indulge eat it do it once in a while.
Dear Sonny,
I agree, nowadays we are consuming too many chemicals in our food that poison us. That is why many people are turning to organic food as it promotes a less toxic for our bodies and the environment. The food also tastes better! Here are 2 more relevant articles that may interest you.
1. BEWARE! Too dangerous for you!!

2. I Love Coke, Fries and Spinach!

It is constantly evident that fast food is not good for our bodies and we know that we should not be putting these things into our bodies. However, what we fail to see is the kind of substance that is indeed in these food or should I say ‘food’. These are all chemically modified food that has zero nutrients, and only does harm to our body.
It is really funny that as humans we come out with sayings like YOLO and say that we should live life to our fullest eating what we want to eat. Yet, when we are sick and dying, we are fearful towards death. If that is the case, then why did we even put nonsense like this into our bodies?
The fast food chains are growing and expanding in numbers, our weight because of these chains have been increasing and it has not helped us at all. Instead, with these chains, it has done more harm than good for us.
It is so scary to know that McDonald’s food has so much chemicals. Previously I read some articles and watched videos about the fries and nuggets, but this articles has more. I guess that is one of the reason why in this years of age more people are prompt to sickness and cancers.
We are feeding chemicals to our body. Why wouldn’t government stop all this harmful food and continue to support the growth of such business?
I hope more people will be aware of such unscrupulous entrepreneurs and STOP eating chemicals.
Everybody knows that the food from McDonalds is not good and healthy, but many people still go there. If you are used to healthy food you will taste the difference and I think the taste of this food is not good. It is better to prepare it at home with fresh vegetables or to go to a restaurant with healthy food. There should be more restaurants outside with healthy organic food for people who are working very much.
It is really shocking to know that the fast food that we eat can contain a huge amount of harmful chemicals. It is not like no one knows that there are harmful chemicals inside. Most of us know that as a fact and it has even been proven, it is just that none of us really care. Besides pretending not to know about the harmful chemicals, advertisements and low prices tend to lure us there, why? Because for some it is relatively cheap and convenient.
Even if the government bans certain chemicals from being added into your fast foods, Meat in itself is also a cause for various ailments ranging from high blood pressure to cancer, that means that we can never be safe until we stop eating meat completely.
I really hope that one day soon everyone will put an end to the practice of eating meat.
It is indeed quite shocking the amount of chemicals that go into the fast food, just to make the food look and taste good. I mean, now that you talk about it, it wouldn’t surprise me because fast food’s production starts in factory which is weeks if not months away. They need to make sure the food look nice even after months the food have been prepared. And to make the food taste good, chemicals need to be added to make sure the taste is preserved.
I think most of us like fast food since young. May be it is due to advertisements or something, I am not sure. But as I age, nothing beats a freshly cooked veggie. Though it is simple, it is nice and most likely, a lot less chemicals (I won’t say there is none, but a lot less).
I can see that more and more government are putting more restriction onto fast food industry. I think it is a good thing. Although the progress is slow, but we still need to start somewhere.
My goodness, all those chemicals, drugs and whatsnot in there, even anti-depressant. Helping the chickens to be happy or to keep them from thinking when they get killed? Nowadays in the industrialised society where money is the only concern, most corporation do not see their products as food for human but only look to achieve their profit and sales target. Thus ethics are sacrificed for cheap substitutes regardless the harm it may cost the people. FDA certifies the safety based on the quantity in the product but I guess they don’t look at long term consumption by the consumer which these poisons could accumulate in the body to cause harm, especially in form of cancer, diabetes, hypertension, etc.
Thanks Admin. for sharing this article and to create the awareness of the possible health dangers.
Thank you admin for posting this article about syntactic ingredients being used in process food. Usually people will know about process food is no good to consume and may have side effects in human body but yet will consume it.
Would like to thank you Rinpoche that inspired me to become vegetarian and no longer take meat and process food. Hope more people are aware of their food from this post.
Thank you.

These days, search anything and you’ll find it on the internet. Fact or fiction, it’s your guess. It would do us good to take everything with a pinch of salt. Too many believe, if it’s on the internet, it must be true. Then we spread it, and perpetuate the fact or fiction without having checked the basis. Are we spreading truths, half-truths or lies? The internet and social media are such powerful tools that can educate as well as indoctrinate or decimate, and it is borderless. It can bring down governments, it can destroy brands, it can tarnish reputations, list goes on. We can’t stop this onslaught of online propaganda but we can choose how we react. If the article floating on social media targets a particular brand, it smells malicious. Why not any other brand? Why not the particular topic in general, which in this case is fast food? We already know, fresh food is much better than processed food. So if we look at this article that we found on the internet, we should sift through all the sales pitch and take home that particular nugget of truth. Avoid processed or “fast” “convenient” food. Select your own ingredients and cook your own well-balanced organic meals all the time. Er, if we always have the time or money. Hey, fresh organic produce is expensive and is a luxury not everyone can afford. Then “non-organic” vegetables might be laden with pesticides, and almost everything on the supermarket shelf is processed, by the way. Otherwise, it might still be maybe ok to drive down the drive-in and grab that packet of unhealthy fries, oh just not too often ok? Either extreme is not sensible or practicable. It’s stressful. Relax. You take your health to where you want to take it.
It was shocking that so much industrial chemicals were added in processing the food every where, i believes that this has something to do with the increasing amount of people getting serious illness like cancer nowadays. Large organisation has the responsibility in taking care people’s benefit and welfare in the process of generating profits. The best is if we could go vegetarian, in preserving our environment and promoting non-killing. Eventually, we have to be mindful what we put inside our mouth.
