My plea to His Holiness the Dalai Lama
Some people would like to say that there is no ban. Some people would like to say there is a ban. And some people are not even sure what the ban is about. There are some people who said that the ban is not such a big deal because you have all the freedom to practice. Well, back in the 1960s and 1970s in USA America, and I like to use this example because I’m from the US and I experienced this when I was growing up… not directly and not as harshly, but there was desegregation in the 1960s, the desegregation of black people going to school with white people. This is because during that time, black people and white people could not go to school together. That would also include brown people, yellow people, red people; people of any colour that were not white were segregated to different schools.
So when desegregation came and they had to integrate, all blacks and whites went to the same school. And although federally everybody was allowed to go to school together and there was integration, still the old prejudices, the old thoughts, the people who thought that people who were not white were inferior, or that they didn’t deserve to be with whites, were still there. So although the law was enacted in 1964 that everyone goes to the same school, there’s no more segregation based on colour, yet when people went to all-white schools, they had rocks thrown at them. They had people threaten them, they had people beat them up, they had people called them names, and it was a long road to integration. It took another 10, 15, 20 years where a lot of black people and people of colour were not scorned or hurt or abused in schools that were predominantly white. People said, “Well, what are black people complaining about? They get to go to the schools, they are going to the schools, and the law says they can go to the schools.” But you see, the law is one thing; people’s prejudice is another thing. People’s prejudice came from a law that said “blacks can’t go to school with whites. People of colour couldn’t go to school with whites.”
So that law was in place for many decades in the United States. When I went to school in the early 70s in America, I didn’t suffer as much as the black people did back in the 40s, 50s and 60s but there was prejudice in the schools. I did suffer a lot of racial discrimination while I was in school, being called names (racial slurs), and being cornered, and being abused, that did happened. It wasn’t as intense and as bad as what black people had to suffer in the “heyday” of segregation. I’m perhaps oversimplifying what happened, and I don’t mean any disrespect to the sufferings of the black people, and even the good white people who thought that this was wrong, because not all white people thought that this was right either. So I am not trying to disrespect what happened to the black people and the good white people, but these days in America if you say segregation of schools, of people of colour, people will be surprised. The generation now will be like, “Huh?! What are you talking about?” Nobody will stand for it. But back in the 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s in America, that’s how it was for people of colour, especially the beautiful black people and white people.
Similarly, a lot of people now say, “Well, there’s no ban against Dorje Shugden. You have your own monasteries, you have your own properties, you have your own places, just don’t come to our place.” Well that doesn’t make sense to me because, why is there our own place? Why are there our own monasteries, our own properties when these did not exist prior to 1996? Prior to 1996, all Dorje Shugden practitioners and non-Dorje Shugden practitioners were in the same monasteries, the same hospitals, the same schools, the same government positions, the same kind of meetings/gatherings. They all went to the same Lamas but after 1996, when the ban was introduced and heavily enforced, then suddenly there were Dorje Shugden monasteries and non-Dorje Shugden monasteries. Dorje Shugden people cannot go to the hospitals, cannot go to the schools, cannot have the equal educational opportunities and jobs within the Tibetan community that non-Dorje Shugden people have.
To say that there is no ban BUT if you wish to practice, you can’t be with us – that may not be a ban in name but that is the ban in action, in spirit, and in real life. And I myself am a Dorje Shugden practitioner, and I have suffered taunts, threats, negative reactions, degradation, bias, prejudice. I have suffered all that only because I am a Dorje Shugden practitioner. Here’s the link to an article that I have put in – Will the Dalai Lama Agree With This? You can see the amount of hatred that I experienced simply because I am a Dorje Shugden practitioner. I don’t steal, I don’t lie, I don’t kill. I hold my monk vows, I do my meditation, I do my practice, I teach Dharma, I help people as much as I can, I help animals, I help the homeless, and I do the best I can as an ordinary human being can do. Yet I’m not allowed to go to a Tibetan hospital, I can’t join the monastery that I come from, I cannot go to any of the Dalai Lama’s teachings. And it’s not that I need to go the Dalai Lama’s teachings, but why is it that only this group of people cannot go to the Dalai Lama’s teachings? That doesn’t make sense.
So if you say there’s the freedom to practice, yet you put people down all the time and you are violent towards them, and you are saying negative things against them, and you’re always prejudiced against them and keep everything separate, I don’t think that’s the freedom to practice. I think that in name it looks like the freedom to practice but in actual life, there’s a heavy prejudice against Dorje Shugden practitioners and they had to suffer quite a lot.
This all came from the Tibetan leadership, I’m sorry. This can only be eliminated by the Tibetan leadership because there was no such thing prior to 1996. None. There was no such thing prior to 1996. I went to Gaden Monastery and when I entered Gaden Monastery in January 1988, everything was fine. But in 1996, Gaden Monastery had to split into two and physically split in two in 2009. It had to split into Gaden Monastery and Shar Gaden Monastery. The properties had to be split in two, the monks cannot meet. The monks who chose to pray to Dorje Shugden cannot talk and meet with monks who do not practice Dorje Shugden; that did not exist prior to 1996/2009. Therefore, whether we want to call it a ban, whether we want to call it not a ban, there is prejudice against Dorje Shugden people and by me putting up these placards, I’m sending a message to the Tibetan leadership in a very respectful manner that this ban should be removed. It is undemocratic, it is unethical, it is not spiritual and we are biasing a group of people from the fundamental rights of religious practice and also the right to practice in peace without being scorned, feared, abused, or berated. I’m not fighting for this fundamental right; I deserve it, I’m born with it and I’m asking for everyone not to take it away. So I’m not asking for the right because I’m born with it; I’m asking for people not to take away what I am born to.
Secondly, when I made these placards and I send the message to the leadership and people who don’t like Dorje Shugden practitioners, I don’t mean any disrespect to His Holiness the Dalai Lama. I don’t mean any disrespect to the leadership or anyone, but I’m expressing my pain, my sorrow, my disappointment and all the sufferings that I and many of us – thousands of us – have endured because of this prejudice against Dorje Shugden practitioners. I think that when we are speaking up against something that is wrong, I do not think that we should insult, put down, be harsh, use negative words or point at faults, mimic, or hurt the person that we are trying to get to change what is happening. You see, because when they do that to us and they hurt us, we don’t have to hurt them back.
My practice of Buddhism and my commitment to Buddha’s teachings, to karma and cause and effect, tells me that even though the ban has caused me so much problems – for us and for myself – it doesn’t give me the right to be rude, to berate, to degrade and to fight back in a way that is disrespectful, that is not polite, that is not right. Because when we use impolite messages, and we start to point at people’s personal so-called downfalls that we perceive – whether existing or not – and when we start calling people negative names all the time, what happens is that people start to not see what you are standing up for. They start focusing on your negative speech, your negative representation, and your negative method of bringing the message across. What happens then is that instead of them focusing on the message, they are focusing on the messenger. So if I am always going to put the Dalai Lama down, which I dare not and I would not do… and we shouldn’t do that to any sentient being because if even we are in the right, we are not excluded or divorced from karma and its effects.
So therefore, if I am bringing this message to His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and I am bringing it to his ministers and people in power, the Tibetan leadership. I am asking them respectfully as a human, as a Tibetan, as a person that still respects them, that you do other things that are good. But this one thing can you please look into it? Can you please do something about it because it is hurting a lot of people and it is not right? When we approach people and we want to create a change, the change we wish to create we should not precipitate with vulgarities, rudeness, threats, bad language, pointing out their negative points, calling them negative labels. Why? Because we are not divorced from karma. Whatever they say to us has karma; whatever we say to them has karma. When we start using methods which are rude and impolite, we send the message to the world that we are what they say we are. “We are rude; Dorje Shugden practice does make us bad. Dorje Shugden’s practice does make us angry and violent” – that’s not true so since that is not true, we cannot use violent, rude, negative, degrading types of language against the people or person whom we’re requesting for a change. The reason is we want everyone to please focus on the message and what we’re trying to achieve and not so much the messenger. We have to be polite, respectful and stick to the laws of cause and effect in person and even on social media. We must send the right message out of reconciliation. If They cannot think in this manner, we must think in this manner because we have taken refuge in Dharma. We must refrain from rude words, sarcasm or attacking them on a personal level. None of us are perfect. To speak, write and act in polite dharmic ways is the best way to approach people we wish to create changes, to bring the ban down. We have been wronged, but we must forgive.
Therefore my method of doing this is the peaceful way, the respectful way. The way to achieve equality, non-segregation and removal of the ban is by doing it this way, by addressing the people with a respectful, polite and good manner. And I feel that if we pursue in this type of way, it will have much more effect, it will be more effective, and it will be more humanly. We must treat others the way we want to be treated. Even if they are not treating us well, we still must attempt and treat them back well. Because this will send a good message to everyone out there that yes, we are working towards removing the ban against Dorje Shugden and all the pain it has caused, but we do not want to create pain back to the people who has caused us pain. We want to set a good example to onlookers and bystanders also. We do not want to create unhappiness or problems for them. We would like them to look at the problem, sit down and discuss, and come to a mutual agreement where both parties will win. I repeat: I would like both parties, the Dorje Shugden practitioners and the non-Dorje Shugden practitioners, to gather together and speak and talk politely, drink tea, human to human, intelligent being to another intelligent being. One Dharma practitioner to another, one practitioner who believes in the law of cause and effect, speaking to another practitioner who believes in the law of cause and effect. And to respect the law of cause and effect by exercising politeness, kindness, intelligence, wisdom, debate, and to learn and not to win. Debate is to learn and not to win. Even if they are not practicing or abiding by the law of cause and effect we must do so and take them as our practice. Be courteous when speak out or even when ‘protesting’. Use messages and placards that are polite and respectful. This will bring us further and also spiritually it is correct. We do honor to our gurus and protector when we are kind in the face of unkindness because we take the situation onto the path. Especially if we are sangha or taken vows or are dharma teachers or students.
Therefore I have come out with these placards along with my team. What is written on the placards is some by myself, some is by my team; not everything is from me although my name is on it in order to send a message to everyone who is interested or is involved in this ban in one way or another, or have some ramifications from this ban to please request the Tibetan leadership politely, again and again, without scourging them, without saying negative things against them, to come to the table and talk. I myself do not wish to go to the table and talk, I am a nobody. I have not much knowledge. But I would like the learned people of the Dorje Shugden practitioners and the learned people of the non-Dorje Shugden practitioners to get together and discuss, and come to a good conclusion so that the sufferings of the people who are enduring this ban may end. Hence I have come out with this bunch of placards to be shared on social media to create awareness, and I have spoken up and I have shared.
I request His Holiness the Dalai Lama to please look at the sufferings of all beings, not just non-Dorje Shugden practitioners, and for His Holiness the Dalai Lama to please look at the sufferings of all beings, not just non-Dorje Shugden practitioners. We love you, we respect you, we miss you, we would like to request you to please send representatives down to talk and resolve this. Because if it continues this way, it will not be good all around. Forgive me Your Holiness the Dalai Lama for me to request so directly of you to remove the ban. I bow to you always.
Thank you, Most humbly, and with apologies,
Tsem Rinpoche

Dear friends,
Tibet has produced many powerful meditations, rituals and guidelines to help us gain spiritual protection, gain wisdom and higher states of consciousness. In general Tibet has produced many powerful methods for the growth of our spiritual evolution. Dorje Shugden is an angel, a saint, a powerful spiritual protector-warrior who originated 350 years ago when a highly awakened Tibetan Lama fulfilled his vows to become a special being to grant protection, wisdom, material needs, safety when travelling (normal and astral travel) and spiritual awakening. Both the Great 5th Dalai Lama and the current His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama composed short yet effective prayers to invoke upon the power and blessings of this special saint and protector. One can recite either one of the prayers that you feel suits you, anytime or even daily. When you feel a special need for help, you can recite either prayer anytime. When you are feeling down, afraid or just need a blessing, you can recite them. After reciting either invocation, it is good to chant the mantra of Dorje Shugden: Om Benza Wiki Bitana Soha.
You do not have to be a Buddhist or practitioner of any religion to invoke upon the blessings and protection of this special enlightened and awakened angel Dorje Shugden. He helps all without discrimination or bias as he is filled with compassion and love. Divinity has no boundaries, they help all who call upon them.
Enclosed are the prayers in English, Chinese and Tibetan.
May you be safe, protected and blessed.

Divination (‘mo’) Text by Dorje Shugden
This is an important divination (‘mo’) text composed by Dorje Shugden himself. Dorje Shugden took trance of the Choyang Dulzin oracle lama, the senior oracle of Gaden Shartse Monastery, and instantly on the spot composed this text within two hours.
The divination text contains information on how to use dice to do divination for the future and is known to be highly accurate. When practitioners use this text, they will be in direct contact with Dorje Shugden to get answers to questions about the future. It is for those who have good samaya with Dorje Shugden and are free of the eight worldly dharmas to be of benefit to others in divining the future.

For the first time available, Dorje Shugden and his entourage of 32 asssistants of his mandala.
Dorje Shugden is a powerful protector deity who is also an emanation of Manjushri, a wisdom bestowing Buddha. Therefore, he has great ability to help us to progress further on the spiritual path. He does this by helping us to overcome obstacles and problems for the modern individual.
Due to his enlightened nature, Dorje Shugden is able to manifest 32 deities and within the same abode resides Setrap and Kache Marpo:-
1. 5 Dorje Shugden families or emanations. They consists of the following:-
– Dulzin Dorje Shugden, which performs activities to eliminate inner and outer obstacles.
– Shize, which performs activities to pacify all illnesses and disease.
– Gyenze, which performs activities to increase all desirable material and spiritual wealth.
– Wangze, which performs activities to control difficult people and circumstances.
– Trakze, which performs activities to wrathfully eliminate all insurmountable obstacles and life-threatening situations.
2. 9 Mothers. They represent protection of the five senses and developing control of the four elements. These are all attributes that signify their ability to assist tantric practitioners with their higher meditations.
3. 8 Guiding Monks. They represent the Eight Great Bodhisattvas (Avalokitesvara, Manjushri, Vajrapani, Samantabhadra, Maitreya, Kshitigarbha, Akashagarbha, Sarva-nivarana-viskambini) and they bring about the growth of the Dharma, through the Sangha, Dharma practitioners and Dharma establishments.
4. 10 Youthful & Wrathful Attendants. They represent the ten wrathful attendants to avert inner and outer obstacles. They are beings who are from Mongolia, China, Kashmir, India, Bengali, etc.
5. Setrap. He is a senior Dharma Protector from India and an emanation of Amitabha Buddha. He had enthroned Dorje Shugden as an authentic Dharma Protector. Therefore, he also resides within the same mandala of Dorje Shugden.
6. Kache Marpo. He is not an emanation of Dorje Shugden but he is still an enlightened Dharma Protector in his own right. He was originally known as Tsiu Marpo of Samye Monastery. However, he has placed himself under the service of Dorje Shugden as his chief minister, performing many activities in order to protect and benefit practitioners. Therefore, he stands guard at the main entrance of Dorje Shugden’s mandala. He often takes trance of qualified mediums to speak.
7. Namkar Barzin. He is the reincarnation of an old Mongolian monk and when he passed away in Phari area of Tibet, his spirit was placed as a powerful assistant of Dorje Shugden. He guards and protects buildings and great institutions especially those that benefit others. He rides on a mythical Gyaling animal that resembles a goat but with scales.
These sacred images are available on *Vajrasecrets. They are made of high quality alloy and are one of a kind. His Holiness the 10th Panchen Lama
Tibetans commonly refer to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and His Holiness 10th Panchen Lama as the “sun and moon” of Tibetan Buddhism. They are the center of Tibetan Buddhist civilization, which draws to its sphere of influence millions of non-Tibetan practitioners. The Panchen Lama’s incarnation line began with the 16th abbot of Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, Lobsang Chokyi Gyeltsen (1570 – 1662). He was bestowed the title of Panchen Lama by His Holiness the 5th Dalai Lama after being declared as an emanation of Amitabha.
After being given the title, his three previous incarnations were posthumously also bestowed the title, making Lobsang Chokyi Gyeltsen the 4th Panchen Lama. He became a teacher to many Tibetans, Bhutanese and Mongolian religious figures, including His Holiness the 4th and 5th Dalai Lamas, and the 1st Jetsun Dampa of Mongolia. A prolific author, Chokyi Gyeltsen is credited with over a hundred compositions, including a number of commentaries and ritual texts that remain central in the Gelukpa tradition today. Along with his role as a teacher of the Dharma, the Panchen Lamas are usually responsible for the recognition of the rebirths of the Dalai Lamas, and vice versa.
The 10th Panchen Lama, Lobsang Trinley Lhundrub Chokyi Gyeltsen (19 February 1938 – 28 January 1989) continued both the spiritual and political roles of his predecessors. His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, his contemporary, was even heard to say and echo the Panchen Lama’s own words that the Dalai Lama would safeguard Tibet from the outside while the Panchen Lama would safeguard Tibet from the inside, as he never left Tibet after the political troubles of 1959. He was truly loved by the Tibetans, all the way until his passing. When he taught, thousands of people would attend, not only from his own Gelug lineage, but masters and practitioners from all traditions of Tibetan Buddhism.
At his sprawling monastery of Tashi Lhunpo, he has a special chapel specifically dedicated to Dorje Shugden, where prayers and rituals are performed on a daily basis. In his great omniscience the Panchen Lama held Dorje Shugden as the principal Dharma protector of the monastery. He also personally propitiated Dorje Shugden among other Dharma protectors, and even wrote extensive prayers and rituals to Dorje Shugden. These rituals and prayers are contained within his ‘sung bum’ or collected works, which are provided here. As such a great lama, with an erudite and clear understanding of the Buddhist scriptures, a teacher to millions in both Tibet and China, from an established incarnation line and an emanation of the Buddha Amitabha, he could not be mistaken about his practice of Dorje Shugden.
His Holiness 10th Panchen Lama is known for his composition of commentaries and practice texts that are still in use by contemporary Buddhist practitioners both in Tibet and across the world. One of these is a powerful ritual composition propitiating the compassionate Dorje Shugden.
Upon the request by Acharya Lobsang Jangchub to compose a shorter version of the prayer (sadhana) for the exhortation of activities of Dorje Shugden, Panchen Lama immediately composed an abbreviate form of Dorje Shugden’s Kangsol. This text is entitled “Manjunatha’s (Tsongkapa) Lineage protector Dorje Shugden and five forms wrathful propitiations and confessional prayers and fulfilment of activities rites” or “Melodious sound of Accomplishment of the Four Activities” for short. Once the prayers were completed, he had signs and strong feelings that Dorje Shugden has been working hard to protect the Buddhadharma in general and the lineage of Lama Tsongkhapa specifically.
Mirroring the abilities of one of his earlier incarnations, Khedrub Je, a disciple of Lama Tsongkhapa and master of both sutra and tantra, the Panchen Lama used his compositional skill and poetic prowess to create a masterful sadhana. Worthy of note is a praise in which the first letter of each verse is a Tibetan vowel. Such compositions are rarely seen, and have historically only been used when propitiating senior Dharma protectors such as Palden Lhamo and Kalarupa.
The Panchen Lama also stated that while composing the Dorje Shugden sadhana (prayers) he was filled with a sense of happiness and bliss. He ends the composition with not only his official title but his ordination name, Tenzin Trinley Jigme Choje Wangchuk, endorsing the validity of his work. He composed the sadhana in his own Tashi Lhunpo monastery while in the Hall of Clear Light and Bliss.

“If the Dalai Lama, if His Holiness the Dalai Lama can be harmed by Dorje Shugden, then we might as well not practice Buddhism anymore. If His Holiness the Dalai Lama can have his life shortened by a so-called evil spirit, any evil spirit, then can he be Avalokiteshvara? So on one hand you say, we say, I say, everybody says, he is Avalokiteshvara; on the other hand you’re saying that he can be harmed by an evil spirit… Which one is it? Can he be harmed by an evil spirit or is he Avalokiteshvara? Do you think Avalokiteshvara, Manjushri, Vajrapani, Tara all take refuge in something else to protect themselves from Dorje Shugden? How illogical is that? How illogical of people to say His Holiness the Dalai Lama can be harmed by an evil spirit, any evil spirit or “Dorje Shugden” evil spirit. How is that possible?” – Tsem Tulku Rinpoche

Sakya tradition’s thangka of Dorje Shugden sitting on a throne within his palace with his four emanations and high Sakya Lamas nearby. Tsem Rinpoche
Amazing post!!!!!
Dear friends, For months we have been working on this BEAUTIFUL and meaningful mural in Kathmandu, Nepal. Please click here to enjoy the many stunning pictures of this mural: https://bit.ly/2LgOj8J
Tsem Rinpoche
Antique Pelden Lhamo thangka with sacred Dorje Shugden at the bottom right. Can see Tsongkapa and Guru Rinpoche on the top also. Beautiful and holy.
From the posts and articles from Rinpoche’s blog and other relevant blogs, it is clear that Dorje Shugden people hold on to the practice because it was passed down by their teachers from authentic lineage. There is no malice or harmful intent in Dorje Shugden practice to harm His Holiness’s life or Tibet, as claimed by His Holiness’ followers. There is no evidence to this accusation. In fact, Rinpoche and his students had provided many facts to prove the other way round, i.e. Dorje Shugden practice does not harm.
On the other hand, His Holiness banned this practice and applied heavy handed treatments on people who continue the practice; i.e. dispel monks from monastery, withhold medical facilities, stop schooling opportunities and disallow Shugdenpas from holding public office positions.
So, it is no wonder the conclusion came to this:
(1) the Tibetan community is lawless because it needs no evidence nor facts to convict a religious practice as wrong
(2) it is merciless as the leaderships not only impose this baseless policy, it also enforce it by discriminating and ostracising Shugdenpas.
(3) truly shocking to realise a Buddhist community that has been revered by the world for authentic Buddhist teachings, had been so despicable.
This video condensed and made simple the history of the Dorje Shugden ban and the sufferings Dorje Shugden people experienced and continue to experience for 20 years. The video also laid out and reveal the truth and facts that Dorje Shugden was the Protector who advised His Holiness the Dalai Lama to flee to India and hence His Holiness’ life is saved. There is no religious freedom for the Dorje Shugden people worldwide because of the Dorje Shugden ban executed by the Central Tibetan Administration. We are, until today being discriminated and persecuted for simply practising our choice of religion and this is the truth.

Reality vs. Begging,
Dear Rinpoche, From the understanding of leadership perspective, a leader has influence over his own group. BUT not any other groups except his own group. From what i see is that the Dalai Lama being a so called leader of the Tibetan religious group does not like to see anybody threatening his power, topping over his position etc.Especially Dorje Shugden does have tremendous power. You may keep on begging Dalai Lama for the rest of your life to accept Dorje Shugden, my question is that will it change the reality that this is the “number ” game ? The majority will win ? Ask the Dalai Lama to go against China and impose his Tibetan will to cajole China to accept his status quo and agenda, do you think the Dalai Lama will likely to win? Has anybody ever taught of a better solution to resolve the problem instead of putting oneself at a secondary position to forever begging the king to accept him because “he ” is right ? A BETTER way to live one’s life as a victim, beggar or as a successful survivor ?
One way to prove Dorje Shugden is excellent and always protecting those who worship him in a correct protocols is to prove to the Dalai lama :- despite of your rejection, we live beautifullly and successfully through our great deeds , here we are, our newly built hotels, hospitals and monastery, schools are larger than the Dalai Lama and cta ‘s buildings, directly opposite their premises, India has lots of cheap land. One can have 1 million below average intelligence quotient worshippers, most of them can be rude, rough, untamed, whatever negative labels you can put on them, or one can have 10000 millionaire worshippers, which one do you choose ? JACK MA was ridiculed and rejected by so many mediocre people before he becomes famous and wealthy. Should one would not waste his time begging for the Dalai Lama ‘s approval, instead one should spend his time focusing on building his empire, recruiting better people, qualified people. By the way, will racial discrimination ever end in this world ? I JUST DO NOT want to waste my time to convince non qualified candidates to accept my point of view.
We should fulfil the will of His Holiness the Dalai Lama for an autonomous Tibetan state.
Dear friends,
This meme is powerful. Who you hang around with and the types of attitude they have is who you will be influenced by many times and who you will become in the future. Look at your friends and the people that always surround you to know who you will become.

Recently Beng Kooi and Martin on behalf of myself and Kechara was lucky to have audience with His Holiness Gaden Trisur Rinpoche Jetsun Lungrik Namgyal of Gaden Shartse Monastery. He lives in around Paris, France. His Holiness is 91 years old and very healthy and alert. He was the 101st throne holder for Tsongkapa and was the head of the Gelugpa school of Buddhism and was very successful during his tenure. He is a strong practitioner of both Sutra and Tantra of Je Tsongkapa’s tradition and a master of all Buddhist knowledge. He holds steadfast to his protector Dorje Shugden very strongly. So we can see even the highest throneholders who are masters of Sutra and Tantra also practices Dorje Shugden knowing the benefits.
Beng Kooi and Martin brought photo albums of Kechara Forest Retreat/Kechara and updates on Kechara and our works. His Holiness was very pleased to listen and offered some gifts back.
This is a beautiful picture and the great blessings bestowed on us from His Holiness Gaden Trisur Rinpoche Jetsun Lungrik Namgyal.
Humbly,
Tsem Rinpoche
The Dorje Shugden ban, is not beneficial to anyone or anything.
Hope the Dalai Lama, CTA will take the cue, His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche is requesting for dialogue to happen between the leaders of the Shugden community and with parties representing the Dalai Lama. The CTA should not be afraid to have a dialogue to resolve the Dorje Shugden issue, especially this issue that has attracted much bad publicity for the Tibetans and Tibetan spiritual community.
Beautiful placards tells us a thousand words ,appealing to H.H Dalai Lama to lift the ban on Dorje Shugden practice. H.H Dalai Lama is concerned of the need to create a more peaceful world and once describes why world peace is necessary and fundamental. But on the issue of Dorje Shugden ,nothing much is done for the people of Tibet. Practitioners of Dorje Shugden has suffered ,religious discrimination ,segregation and so forth.
May the issue be solved soon, May all practitioners and non practitioners of Dorje Shugden lives harmoniously as one peaceful state.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing these meaningful placards to bring across to many more people around the world . A word of thanks to those involved in producing all these beautiful placards too
Great message every Tibetan especially must read!
I like the approach of amicable understanding through dialogues and getting all sides to understand the situation and reach an understanding.
The placards are nicely designed.
Thank you Rinpoche. I have a photo of the earlier placards… hehe.. uploaded for sharing as well 🙂
I still love and miss His Holiness the Dalai Lama. I am hoping he will unite all of us no matter what our religion is. I know he will. His Holiness has done so much good in the world. I’ve admired him since I was a very young boy and when I met him for the first time in 1979. He came to Howell, New Jersey where I grew up. It was magical to see him. I pray one day he will accept all Dorje Shugden practitioners as was his root guru was a Dorje Shugden practitioner and invite us into his presence again with love and acceptance. I pray for his long life and continued presence in this world. I never lost hope in His Holiness the Dalai Lama to accept all of us regardless of race, religion, sect and background once again.
I place my unworthy head to his feet, Humbly, Tsem Rinpoche https://www.tsemrinpoche.com
As Dorje Shugden practitioners who believe in karma, the law of cause and effect, we will remain respectful to all who have hurt us. “Even if they are not practicing or abiding by the law of cause and effect we must do so and take them as our practice. Be courteous when we speak out or even when ‘protesting’”.
The thing about religious discrimination is ,once you have imposed a ban on Shugden practice, you have set in train a whole gamut of negative emotions -prejudice and hatred – against a group of people, who had been living in peace and harmony together with others, just before the ban was officially enforced. Overnight, friends became enemies. These prejudices would take generations to remove.
Then officialdom insists there is no ban, but if there were no ban , why are Shugden practitioners barred from attending the Dalai Lama’s teachings, barred from hospitals and schools? Why is there segregation and ostracising of Shugden people.
Hence, H H Dalai Lama, with all due respect, can start the process towards reconciliation of Shugden practitioners and others through peaceful negotiations. This would be a definite step towards peace and unity of all and an end to suffering of Dorje Shugden practitioners.
With the blessings of Dalai Lama, may all Dorje Shugden practitioners and non- Shugden practitioners get together and talk and discuss all issues together in a n atmosphere of friendship. May this happen soon, your Holiness.
The Dorje Shugden ban has caused much suffering for the past 20 years. This issue can be solved easily when both Dorje Shugden people and non Dorje Shugden people come together communicate with each other to achieve a good conclusion. We plea to H.H. the Dalai Lama sends his representative to talk to Dorje Shugden people and bring the ban to the end. No one should be hurt , in pain, divided, discriminated, and segregated because they value their religious choices. Peace and harmony is very much needed. _/\_
Every living being includes Dorje Shugden’s practitioners and non-Dorje Shugden’s practitioners deserve to have happiness, protection, respect and equanimity. However, many Dorje Shugden’s practitioners who are normal people like everyone, have received continuous discriminations, abuse, attacks, segregation, unfair treatments and insults for the past 20 years since the ban of Dorje Shugden’s practice was officially started in 1996 by the Tibetan leaders in exile.
All Buddhists whether they are coming from Tibet, India, China, US or Asia regions should practice purely according to the 84,000 teachings given by Buddha Shakyamuni which consists of the 6 Paramitas (giving, moral discipline, patience, effort, concentration and wisdom), the Ten Refuge Vows in order to refrain us from the ten non-virtuous actions such as killing, stealing, sexual misconduct, divisive speech, harsh words, idle chatter, lying, envy, hatred/ malice and wrong views, and other positive qualities that can lead all humans to ultimate happiness and free from sufferings. Buddha never teach us to insult, attack, discriminate, segregate, abuse and put down on others because they practice their religions differently.
I sincerely pray and wish that sooner, all Buddhists will unite as one big happy family without any fear, segregation and discrimination. May H.H. the 14th Dalai Lama lift the ban of Dorje Shugden’s practice and restore the harmony within all Buddhist lineages to end the sufferings endure by many Dorje Shugden’s practitioners. We love and respect H.H. the 14th Dalai Lama, who is the living Buddha of Compassion.
Humbly with folded hands,
so kin hoe
May the dialogue happen very soon and may the atmosphere by calm, compassionate, friendly, and open. The needless suffering since 1996 till now have been going on for far too long and it is time to bring this to a conclusion. Only this way, can peace and harmony be achieved. Once the learned people of the Dorje Shugden practitioners and the learned people of the non-Dorje Shugden practitioners to get together and have a dialogue and hopefully will arrive at a a good conclusion so that the sufferings of the people who are enduring this ban may end.
May Your Holiness be in good & stable health always.
Humbly yours,
Lum Kok Luen
Your Holiness the Dalai Lama, we beg you to end this conflict and allow religious freedom to Dorje Shugden practitioners. Please heal this conflict so there may be peace, unity and harmony. Dorje Shugden practitioners have suffered for over 20 years because of this ban. We love the Dalai Lama and we love Dorje Shugden.
Dorje Shugden has been maligned and demonized by the Tibetan leaderships’s smear campaigns for 20 years. However, when some one actually looks into the allegations against the Protector and examine what the practice is all about, they see the goodness of Dorje Shugden clearly. This comment by ‘Suzy in Hawaii’ is yet another indication that despite all efforts, the anti-Shugden offensive has failed. . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vl-4lIwxph4&t=11s
We are waiting so long for peace and harmony. The ban on Dorje Shugden is creating pain for so many people on a daily basis.
Dorje Shugden practitioners are literally cast-out from the community and nobody will talk to them, expect for putting pressure on them to give up their practice.
We wish so much that H.H. the Dalai Lama, the Buddha of Compassion, will end the ban and suffering of so many people. This ban is wrong as it does not respect basic human rights like religious freedom but more so the right for children to attend school, the right to shop at the shop around the corner, the right for medical assistance and more.
Dorje Shugden practitioners life is put to a harsh test for such a long time already. We beg H.H. to release to ban and bring harmony and peace to millions of people.

Trode Khangsar Chapel in Lhasa, Tibet
Over 400 years ago a great and learned lama Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen was famed in Mongolia, Tibet, Nepal and China for being very saintly and compassionate. He resided in his residence (Zimkhang Gongma Ladrang) in Drepung Monastery. His root guru was H.H. the Omniscient 4th Panchen Lama and his close dharma brother was the 5th Dalai Lama.
The 5th Dalai Lama and Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen had a very close and dharmic relationship and often went to receive teachings together from the 4th Panchen Lama. They were close in age. They both became very learned and well known. During this time, the Dalai Lama was enthroned as a Dharma King of Tibet. But more people went to see Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen for teachings, initiations and divinations. This made the attendants of the 5th Dalai Lama feel threatened that Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s fame might usurp the power of the 5th Dalai Lama. So they had a khata forced down his throat. At that moment, Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen dissolved his psychic winds and generated the wish to be a great guardian of Buddha and Tsongkapa’s teachings. As his consciousness dissolved, he entered ‘bardo’ as a dharma protector of the highest order (jikten depey sungma). Many signs were seen throughout Lhasa at this time and the earth was said to have shaken in Lhasa. This event was already predicted to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s previous incarnation when he was one of the 8 main disciples of Lord Tsongkapa the Supreme Master and he served Tsongkapa directly by building Gaden Monastery.
When the 5th Dalai Lama heard what his scheming and power-hungry attendants had done, he was very distressed. He was very sorry Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen was murdered and dishonored as he was a great dharma master. The 5th Dalai Lama composed an apology to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen. In Lhasa, tens of thousands gathered for the cremation of Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s holy body. During the cremation, the 5th Dalai Lama’s apology was read out at which flames spontaneously arose from the body of Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen commencing the cremation. From the body, during cremation, a powerful whirlwind of smoke tunneled into the sky for all to see as this was an indication Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s consciousness has arisen as the Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden. The Dharma Protector Setrap immediately recognized this new protector Dorje Shugden and ‘enthroned’ him as a powerful Dharma Protector in the realm of the Buddhas. From this, Setrap and Dorje Shugden are closely connected and very close working hand in hand always. After the cremation, the great 5th Dalai Lama built a Dorje Shugden chapel on the spot the cremation took place and named it Trode Khangsar. The 5th Dalai Lama commissioned the statue of Dorje Shugden in this chapel and had monks installed in the chapel to do continuous propitiations to Dorje Shugden. Trode Khangsar Chapel was a commemoration to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen who was wronged and also a celebration of his consciousness arising as the World Peace Peace Protector Dorje Shugden.
This Trode Khangsar Chapel still exists now in Lhasa where many make pilgrimages there. It is in good condition and was recently renovated. It is over 400 years old and a testimony to the respect the Great 5th Dalai Lama had to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen who arose as Dorje Shugden.
I have visited this holy chapel in Lhasa years back. I’ve never heard of it till I was in Lhasa and by chance, I was told about it which I was happy to visit. I could not find the place but strangely a bunch of pilgrims from Amdo told me they would show me how to get there in Lhasa.
This short video is a short clip of this holy Trode Khangsar Chapel in Lhasa today commemorating Dorje Shugden, built by the great 5th Dalai Lama. The great 5th Dalai Lama even composed a prayer to Dorje Shugden which is still available today and we can recite to invoke the blessings, protection, and assistance of World Peace Protector Dorje Shugden.

The 5th Dalai Lama’s Prayer to Dorje Shugden
HUM
Though unmoving from the sphere of primordial spontaneity,
With wrathful turbulent power, swifter than lightning,
Endowed with heroic courage to judge good and bad,
I invite you with faith, please come to this place!
Robes of a monk, crown adorned with rhinoceros leather hat,
Right hand holds ornate club, left holds a human heart,
Riding various mounts such as nagas and garudas,
Who subdues the mamos of the charnel grounds, praise to you!
Samaya substances, offerings and torma, outer, inner and secret,
Favourite visual offerings and various objects are arranged.
Although, previously, my wishes were a bit dense,
Do not stop your powerful apparitions, I reveal and confess!
Now respectfully praising with body, speech, and mind,
For us, the masters, disciples, benefactors and entourages,
Provide the good and avert the bad!
Bring increase like the waxing moon in spiritual and temporal realms!
Moreover, swiftly accomplishing all wishes,
According to our prayers, bestow the supreme effortlessly!
And like the jewel that bestows all wishes,
Always protect us with the Three Jewels!

Rinpoche you and the rest of the kecharians look very cute and cool with the DS ban caption banners 🙂 I pray that the DS ban may be lifted as soon as possible so that all DS practitioners can practice Dorje Shugden in peace, harmony and happiness… _/\_
I do wish the discrimination on Dorje Shudgen and the practitioners may end swiftly, to the benefit of all. Tibetans in exile deserve peace and reconciliation ASAP.
Thank you for having the strength, courage and genuine care to stand up and speak peacefully for what you believe in. No one should ever suffer, be segregated, assaulted, hurt, degraded, belittled, cursed, hated and biased for their religious beliefs. No one should advise anyone against any religious belief. If we want to find people who hate a certain religion, we can find plenty. If we want to find people who like a certain religion or form of spirituality, there will be plenty. In the end who is right and wrong? Which religion is right or wrong. All or some or none? Therefore it is more logical to respect all religions, all faiths and all forms of spirituality. In history many have exploited religion for selfish purposes and many have not. As long as I have not, that is all that matters. I cannot and will not speak for others of my faith and what their motive is, but I know my motive. No one and no leader and no religious leader should ever hurt, segregate or speak against another religion. Time for peace. Time for harmony. Time for respect. Time to look beyond mine/your religion and be kind. Be kind to everyone. Never put anyone down because of their religion.
Humbly,
Tsem Rinpoche.
P.S. I wish very much the people from His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s views/side and people from the side of Dorje Shugden practitioners meet very soon. May they meet in peace, with kindness in the hearts and good motivation to solve this issue once and for all. We have to solve this through peaceful dialogue. I never protested against His Holiness Dalai Lama nor spoke harshly against his views ever. I have always respected his and everyone’s views. We all have to live on this earth together. You will not accept my way of spirituality and I will not accept your’s and that is okay. But we must respect each other’s spiritual faith and NEVER criticize or advise against it. We must respect also what we don’t accept. Everyone has their way. Advising against another’s religion/faith/spirituality creates so much disharmony. No more disharmony. It’s been 19 years since the ban against Dorje Shugden started. It must end please. We have so many things to argue about in this world, let’s make one less conflict. I wish this conflict to end peacefully soon. I wish His Holiness the Dalai Lama and supporters can open channels of communication and solve this issue soon. Peaceful dialogue please and soon. Thank you.
Its is very much good to see how Rinpoche works and put effort to remove ban and bring peace to this problem that we all facing. May the peace and happiness coming to each of us life.
We are considered the most intelligent creatures among all the beings with form that walk the Earth today. Yet our ignorance, avarice, anger, jealousy seem to get the better of us. We call ourselves modern day people but the thinking and actions do not correspond to what we label ourselves. And for those of us who label ourselves as Buddhists do not practice what Lord Buddha teaches.
The pain and humiliation suffered by pro and anti Shugden people is real yet unnecessary. There are already so much suffering caused by hunger, poverty, racial segregation, disparity, displacement, nature abuse, and we continue by adding religious and spiritual war into the boiling pot.
Let’s stop all these disparity, religious arguments, names calling, abuse hurling, suffering. Let’s live in peace and harmony with our short lives. Let’s make this place we call Earth a home.
May the Dalai Lama and Dorje Shugden practitioners resolve this ban. _/|\_
its only a debate no body needs to die when we are just posturing and making arguements i did not even see any hand slapping yet , heard lots of noisy press re false holiness. you are both just men , very special men but you are men , and even enlightened ones have emotions that make a mark somewhere even if it is not on the mind nor the body of the man it makes a mark on students and other teachers , be happy , do not worry all will be well.
One thing for sure is that we didn’t practise Dorje Shugden to go against His Holiness the Dalai Lama. H.E Tsem Rinpoche was introduced to the practice by His Gurus way before the ban took place, and H.E Tsem Rinpoche’s Guru devotion has known to be very strong and firm, there’s no way He could abandon the practice just like that. I completely understand why H.E Tsem Rinpoche had to stay quiet about this Dorje Shugden practice, do go on and google an d see it for yourselves, how Dorje Shugden practitioners have been treated for all these while, how they are cursed at and beaten up.
Every single living being including animals should be treated with equality, if we can’t even be kind towards our own kind (humans), let’s not talk about saving the world/ Buddhism and all that. There are BUDDHISTS out there who harm and hurt Dorje Shugden practitioners. How do you call yourselves spiritual when you discriminate, segregate and put down others? Please don’t call yourselves Buddhists or activists who fight for freedom and equalism when you can’t even apply it into your daily lives. that’s baloney.
I would like to request His Holiness the Dalai Lama to please send His representatives to solve the Dorje Shugden issue and cease the sufferings of Dorje Shugden practitioners, we are too humans and we all deserve the freedom of belief and religion. Why is practising witch crafts and all that are allowed while Dorje Shugden is not? We all love and respect His Holiness the Dalai Lama and we love Dorje Shugden, please don’t force us to choose sides.
It is good to see that we are making efforts to end the ban as soon as possible. Everything was different when I first came to Kechara. At that time no one spoke a single thing abou Dorje Shugden, because if they did something bad could have happened.
At that time we had not the slightest idea that Dorje Shugden was one of Kechara’s dharma protectors. However that does not mean that Rinpoche is lying, Rinpoche had practiced Dorje Shugden for years, it is just that he said it was not one of our Dharma protectors. In fact both Setrap and Dorje Shugden is our protector it was just that no one said a thing about it, it was not to say that no one did DS practice. Therefore you can’t say that Rinpoche is lying.
It is really great to see that we are now putting effort to stop the ban. The captions are also great, it does not offend anyone nor do they use profanity. This way we can move people to help pressure the Dalai lama so that the ban will end.
But we must remember that whatever we do to put pressure on the Dalai Lama we must do it peacefully and without violence. Even Martin Luther King JR encouraged non violent protest, why? Violence won’t get you anywhere and it gives the people more reasons to call you names and have you arrested. If we do things peacefully the people will have less reasons to call us names and even less for them to arrest us for causing trouble and hurt.
For a long part of Kechara’s history Tsem Rinpoche has not openly discussed Dorje Shugden as it is a very sensitive topic. In fact I did not even know about Dorje Shugden until this year. It is not that Rinpoche was being sneaky and trying to fool everyone. As he says, he and many other Dorje Shugden practitioners have suffered in silence because of the prejudice and lack of ability to discuss the ban at an queal level.
I don’t feel left out of the loop, in fact I feel positively sheltered from the prejudice arising from the ban but that I was also able to learn and be connected with the Dharma and Rinpoche. It is very a hard and compassionate thing to do, suffering in silence for others. The thing is he could stop practicing Dorje Shugden and forget it and be on the side that doesn’t get discriminated against but that would not be compassionate and that would not be a good example of guru devotion. The reason why Tsem Rinpoche is so positively influential to so many people in Kechara and beyond is because he walks the talk and that inspires people.
I have never experienced the suffering of Dorje Shugden practitioners due to the ban so I cannot fully understand it but having been on the receiving end of some racial slurs, it is not nice. There have been times where I was angry because of it but I didn’t really grasp how little and insignificant that kind of suffering is until later on. My suffering was very small in comparison to many others as Rinpoche has described here and the way forward is not to retaliate because even if it produced results, it would not be for very long and it would not be willing so there would be a lot of resistance which produces more conflict. Instead a diplomatic solution as Rinpoche suggests would be the most effective because it is long term and it is accepted together meaning there is harmony in the Buddhist community which is what it is so well known and looked up to for.
