(By Tsem Rinpoche)

Dear special friends around the world,

Thank you for visiting today. I have a very special treat for all of you. This is by special permission and I am excited to share with you all something profoundly close to my heart and beneficial for countless beings.

The interesting story of how Dorje Shugden arose as a supreme world peace protector is blogged here for your learning pleasure and blessings. He was many great beings in his previous lives prior to arising as the protector Dorje Shugden. In ‘Music Delighting the Ocean of Protectors’ which is written by His Holiness Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche clearly reveals how Dorje Shugden arose as a dharma protector. When you understand this historical account, you will realize Dorje Shugden is no ordinary being but a enlightened being manifesting as a supreme protector. This story recounted here in the video and graphic novel are based on the history of how Dorje Shugden arose as a dharma protector according to His Holiness Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche in ‘Music Delighting the Ocean of Protectors’. Accuracy here is guaranteed.

‘Music Delighting The Ocean of Protectors’ is a complete volume which explains the practice, lineage, rituals, mandalas, meditations, history and benefits of Dorje Shugden. It includes retreats, how to make tormas, even practices for deeper retreats on this supreme Dorje Shugden. His Holiness Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche personally wrote this text out in order to preserve the practice for future generations.

When Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen was killed by the then Tibetan government due to jealousy of his fame, his future incarnations were outlawed and his ladrang (estates) confiscated. His incarnations continued to appear but without his official name and title until present day. All records of him and his written works numbering into many volumes were destroyed as well. His writings and works have been preserved in present day Mongolia. Many lamas have suffered the same fate by the Tibetan government in feudal Tibet. But thanks to the writings of the erudite scholar Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche we have an accurate account of the beginnings of this great protector.

I have sought and received permission to post here and share with the world the incredible history and background of how Dorje Shugden arose as a supreme Dharma protector. I thank the people who allowed this.

Tsem Rinpoche

His Holiness Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche the tutor to the 14th Dalai Lama for over 30 years. Trijang Rinpoche passed down many practices, lineages and transmission to H.H. the Dalai Lama as well as tens of thousands of monks in Drepung, Sera and Gaden Monastery. The senior masters and scholars of the Gelug world all have taken teachings from Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche without exception. Trijang Rinpoche was a scholar of the highest order, master of sutra and tantra and seasoned practitioner with pure attainments of the higher realms of meditations.

The two root tutors or gurus of His Holiness the Dalai Lama for over 30 years. (Left: His Holiness Kyabje Ling Rinpoche Right: His Holiness Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche Centre: His Holiness the Dalai Lama.)

His Holiness Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche meeting the then Pope as a representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama

His Holiness Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche was extremely close and good friends with His Holiness the Karmapa. Karmapa would visit Trijang Rinpoche and vice versa. Karmapa never had an issue with Trijang Rinpoche’s strong practice and proliferation of Dorje Shugden. Karmapa predicted there will come a time when many will need the assistance of Dorje Shugden. Even the current Karmapa never criticizes Dorje Shugden.

‘Music Delighting the Ocean of Protectors’ is a whole volume of text solely devoted to the history and practice of Dorje Shugden written by His Holiness Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche. Trijang Rinpoche predicted there will be ‘obstacles’ to the growth of Dorje Shugden in the future after he has passed. When that time comes he has penned down accurate information on this supreme protector so we can all refer to this text. He composed this text for those to learn more on Dorje Shugden. Looks like the time has come. This text has 555 Tibetan pages.

His Holiness Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche, His Holiness the 10th Panchen Rinpoche and His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. Both Trijang Rinpoche and Panchen Rinpoche practiced Dorje Shugden their whole lives. Masters of sutra and tantra. Beautiful photo.

The two gurus of His Holiness the Dalai Lama for thirty years were exceptionally close, friendly and highly respectful of each other. It was their good relations that worked hand in hand in educating the young Dalai Lama to be the great scholar he is today. Their Holinesses Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche and Kyabje Ling Rinpoche were scholars, meditational masters and writers of the highest caliber. Tibet would not have chosen any lesser to educate the Dalai Lama.

His Holiness Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche or otherwise known affectionately as Kyabje Dechen Nyingpo. Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche was the root guru of both Their Holinesses Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche and Kyabje Ling Rinpoche. Trijang Rinpoche and Ling Rinpoche held Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche in the highest regard. Their lineage all stem from Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche’s teachings. The majority of the Gelug school of Buddhism stem from this great master and lineage holder Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche.

Beautiful Dorje Shugden story in graphic novel form, for easy understanding. All people from children to adult will definitely love to read this. A true story been told of how Dorje Shugden arose as a world Dharma protector to benefit all sentient beings . This historical account, according to HH Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche in ‘Music Delighting the Ocean of Protectors should be reveals to all to understand better, clearing all the odds . Dorje Shugden is an enlightened being and not evil as claimed.
Thank you Rinpoche for this wonderful sharing.

Telling Dorje Shugden story and origins using comic is a great method for many to understand. Many people capture information better by visual and remember it longer. Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this article. Dorje Shugden is clearly an enlightened dharma protector. No one will teach another person the way to murder themselves. I hope everyone will do more reading and not be influenced by all the baseless allegation that Dorje Shugden is evil.

This comic book is a brilliant idea. It is very suitable for children and even adult because there are not many words but yet it delivers the most important information to us. Thank you Tsem Rinpoche for always make things so easy for us to learn.

I am amazed with Dorje Shugden’s previous incarnations. All of them were great masters and they did not show any sign of degeneration from one lifetime to another. In fact, every incarnation has done great deeds to the preservation and spreading of Buddhism.

Since Dorje Shugden’s mind stream is the same as all his previous incarnations, he cannot be an evil spirit. Besides, when he made the promise to become a protector, it is based on the motivation that he wanted to protect Tsongkhapa’s teachings and also to help the Dharma practitioners. So to say a highly attained mind stream suddenly degenerates and becomes an evil spirit, it just does not make sense.

    Dear friends,

Tibet has produced many powerful meditations, rituals and guidelines to help us gain spiritual protection, gain wisdom and higher states of consciousness. In general Tibet has produced many powerful methods for the growth of our spiritual evolution. Dorje Shugden is an angel, a saint, a powerful spiritual protector-warrior who originated 350 years ago when a highly awakened Tibetan Lama fulfilled his vows to become a special being to grant protection, wisdom, material needs, safety when travelling (normal and astral travel) and spiritual awakening. Both the Great 5th Dalai Lama and the current His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama composed short yet effective prayers to invoke upon the power and blessings of this special saint and protector. One can recite either one of the prayers that you feel suits you, anytime or even daily. When you feel a special need for help, you can recite either prayer anytime. When you are feeling down, afraid or just need a blessing, you can recite them. After reciting either invocation, it is good to chant the mantra of Dorje Shugden: Om Benza Wiki Bitana Soha.

You do not have to be a Buddhist or practitioner of any religion to invoke upon the blessings and protection of this special enlightened and awakened angel Dorje Shugden. He helps all without discrimination or bias as he is filled with compassion and love. Divinity has no boundaries, they help all who call upon them.

Enclosed are the prayers in English, Chinese and Tibetan.

May you be safe, protected and blessed.

Divination (‘mo’) Text by Dorje Shugden

This is an important divination (‘mo’) text composed by Dorje Shugden himself. Dorje Shugden took trance of the Choyang Dulzin oracle lama, the senior oracle of Gaden Shartse Monastery, and instantly on the spot composed this text within two hours.

The divination text contains information on how to use dice to do divination for the future and is known to be highly accurate. When practitioners use this text, they will be in direct contact with Dorje Shugden to get answers to questions about the future. It is for those who have good samaya with Dorje Shugden and are free of the eight worldly dharmas to be of benefit to others in divining the future.

His Holiness the 10th Panchen Lama

Tibetans commonly refer to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and His Holiness 10th Panchen Lama as the “sun and moon” of Tibetan Buddhism. They are the center of Tibetan Buddhist civilization, which draws to its sphere of influence millions of non-Tibetan practitioners. The Panchen Lama’s incarnation line began with the 16th abbot of Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, Lobsang Chokyi Gyeltsen (1570 – 1662). He was bestowed the title of Panchen Lama by His Holiness the 5th Dalai Lama after being declared as an emanation of Amitabha.

After being given the title, his three previous incarnations were posthumously also bestowed the title, making Lobsang Chokyi Gyeltsen the 4th Panchen Lama. He became a teacher to many Tibetans, Bhutanese and Mongolian religious figures, including His Holiness the 4th and 5th Dalai Lamas, and the 1st Jetsun Dampa of Mongolia. A prolific author, Chokyi Gyeltsen is credited with over a hundred compositions, including a number of commentaries and ritual texts that remain central in the Gelukpa tradition today. Along with his role as a teacher of the Dharma, the Panchen Lamas are usually responsible for the recognition of the rebirths of the Dalai Lamas, and vice versa.

The 10th Panchen Lama, Lobsang Trinley Lhundrub Chokyi Gyeltsen (19 February 1938 – 28 January 1989) continued both the spiritual and political roles of his predecessors. His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, his contemporary, was even heard to say and echo the Panchen Lama’s own words that the Dalai Lama would safeguard Tibet from the outside while the Panchen Lama would safeguard Tibet from the inside, as he never left Tibet after the political troubles of 1959. He was truly loved by the Tibetans, all the way until his passing. When he taught, thousands of people would attend, not only from his own Gelug lineage, but masters and practitioners from all traditions of Tibetan Buddhism.

At his sprawling monastery of Tashi Lhunpo, he has a special chapel specifically dedicated to Dorje Shugden, where prayers and rituals are performed on a daily basis. In his great omniscience the Panchen Lama held Dorje Shugden as the principal Dharma protector of the monastery. He also personally propitiated Dorje Shugden among other Dharma protectors, and even wrote extensive prayers and rituals to Dorje Shugden. These rituals and prayers are contained within his ‘sung bum’ or collected works, which are provided here. As such a great lama, with an erudite and clear understanding of the Buddhist scriptures, a teacher to millions in both Tibet and China, from an established incarnation line and an emanation of the Buddha Amitabha, he could not be mistaken about his practice of Dorje Shugden.

His Holiness 10th Panchen Lama is known for his composition of commentaries and practice texts that are still in use by contemporary Buddhist practitioners both in Tibet and across the world. One of these is a powerful ritual composition propitiating the compassionate Dorje Shugden.

Upon the request by Acharya Lobsang Jangchub to compose a shorter version of the prayer (sadhana) for the exhortation of activities of Dorje Shugden, Panchen Lama immediately composed an abbreviate form of Dorje Shugden’s Kangsol. This text is entitled “Manjunatha’s (Tsongkapa) Lineage protector Dorje Shugden and five forms wrathful propitiations and confessional prayers and fulfilment of activities rites” or “Melodious sound of Accomplishment of the Four Activities” for short. Once the prayers were completed, he had signs and strong feelings that Dorje Shugden has been working hard to protect the Buddhadharma in general and the lineage of Lama Tsongkhapa specifically.

Mirroring the abilities of one of his earlier incarnations, Khedrub Je, a disciple of Lama Tsongkhapa and master of both sutra and tantra, the Panchen Lama used his compositional skill and poetic prowess to create a masterful sadhana. Worthy of note is a praise in which the first letter of each verse is a Tibetan vowel. Such compositions are rarely seen, and have historically only been used when propitiating senior Dharma protectors such as Palden Lhamo and Kalarupa.

The Panchen Lama also stated that while composing the Dorje Shugden sadhana (prayers) he was filled with a sense of happiness and bliss. He ends the composition with not only his official title but his ordination name, Tenzin Trinley Jigme Choje Wangchuk, endorsing the validity of his work. He composed the sadhana in his own Tashi Lhunpo monastery while in the Hall of Clear Light and Bliss.

For the first time available, Dorje Shugden and his entourage of 32 assistants of his mandala.

Dorje Shugden is a powerful protector deity who is also an emanation of Manjushri, a wisdom bestowing Buddha. Therefore, he has great ability to help us to progress further on the spiritual path. He does this by helping us to overcome obstacles and problems for the modern individual.

Due to his enlightened nature, Dorje Shugden is able to manifest 32 deities and within the same abode resides Setrap and Kache Marpo:-

    1. 5 Dorje Shugden families or emanations. They consists of the following:-

    – Dulzin Dorje Shugden, which performs activities to eliminate inner and outer obstacles.
    – Shize, which performs activities to pacify all illnesses and disease.
    – Gyenze, which performs activities to increase all desirable material and spiritual wealth.
    – Wangze, which performs activities to control difficult people and circumstances.
    – Trakze, which performs activities to wrathfully eliminate all insurmountable obstacles and life-threatening situations.

    2. 9 Mothers. They represent protection of the five senses and developing control of the four elements. These are all attributes that signify their ability to assist tantric practitioners with their higher meditations.

    3. 8 Guiding Monks. They represent the Eight Great Bodhisattvas (Avalokitesvara, Manjushri, Vajrapani, Samantabhadra, Maitreya, Kshitigarbha, Akashagarbha, Sarva-nivarana-viskambini) and they bring about the growth of the Dharma, through the Sangha, Dharma practitioners and Dharma establishments.

    4. 10 Youthful & Wrathful Attendants. They represent the ten wrathful attendants to avert inner and outer obstacles. They are beings who are from Mongolia, China, Kashmir, India, Bengali, etc.

    5. Setrap. He is a senior Dharma Protector from India and an emanation of Amitabha Buddha. He had enthroned Dorje Shugden as an authentic Dharma Protector. Therefore, he also resides within the same mandala of Dorje Shugden.

    6. Kache Marpo. He is not an emanation of Dorje Shugden but he is still an enlightened Dharma Protector in his own right. He was originally known as Tsiu Marpo of Samye Monastery. However, he has placed himself under the service of Dorje Shugden as his chief minister, performing many activities in order to protect and benefit practitioners. Therefore, he stands guard at the main entrance of Dorje Shugden’s mandala. He often takes trance of qualified mediums to speak.

    7. Namkar Barzin. He is the reincarnation of an old Mongolian monk and when he passed away in Phari area of Tibet, his spirit was placed as a powerful assistant of Dorje Shugden. He guards and protects buildings and great institutions especially those that benefit others. He rides on a mythical Gyaling animal that resembles a goat but with scales.

These sacred images are available on *Vajrasecrets. They are made of high quality alloy and are one of a kind. They are based on the lineage of His Holiness Panchen Rinpoche’s monastery, Tashilhunpo in Shigatse, Tibet. In fact, the iconography of these statues are based on detailed photographs taken by H. E. Tsem Rinpoche during a trip to Tashilhunpo’s protector chapel. These are based exactly as the 10th Panchen Lama’s personal collection.

    Dear Rinpoche,

As I read this story again, it reminds me that Dharma is not something that is nice to see only. To serve a greater purpose, one must even sacrifice one’s life for the benefits of many. Thank you for this graphic novel as it helps me to remember the story line better.

    Thank you again.

This is a powerful picture of Geshe Tsultrim Gyeltsen, Kensur Kyabje Lati Rinpoche and the current incarnation of Trijang Rinpoche meeting together in the year 2000 when Trijang Rinpoche was 18. All three lamas are Dorje Shugden practitioners. In fact Geshe Tsultrim Gyeltsen was the one that first encouraged my practice of Dorje Shugden when I was 16 years old when I joined his beautiful Thubten Dhargye Ling centre in Los Angeles. I lived with Geshe Tsultrim Gyeltsen for 8 years before proceeding to Gaden Monastery in South India. Later Kyabje Zong Rinpoche came to our Los Angeles centre and granted sogtae (permission ceremony) to practice Dorje Shugden for life as requested by Geshe Tsultrim Gyeltsen. Geshe Tsultrim Gyeltsen had tremendous faith in Trijang Rinpoche. Kyabje Lati Rinpoche was innovative, dedicated and very much focused on bringing dharma to many. He had tremendous faith in Dorje Shugden as I had the honour to meet him many times. He would seek advice from Dorje Shugden many times via the oracle of Gaden Monastery. Geshe Tsultrim Gyeltsen and Kensur Kyabje Lati Rinpoche have since passed away while the current Trijang Rinpoche is a perfect lineage holder and practitioner of Dharma while he keeps Dorje Shugden as his personal protector as he has done so for many lifetimes. This is a powerful and beautiful picture of three great lamas of Buddha’s lineage and also of Gaden Monastery.

Dorje Shugden is an enlightened being and arose as a dharma protector as indicated clearly in ‘Music Delighting the Ocean of Protectors’, written by HH the 14th Dalai Lama’s root Guru, HH Kyabje Trijang Dorje Chang.

By having this illustrated story & graphic novel of Dorje Shugden, many people will learn and understand the history of Dorje Shugden especially in the area of how and why he arose as a dharma protector.

Thank you Rinpoche for this wonderful sharing. May Dorje Shugden always helps, guides and protect the sincere practitioners from all lineages. May Lama Tsongkhapa and Dorje Shugden practices and teachings spread to the ten directions to benefit all sentient beings.

Dorje Shugden’s tale and origins are told in so much detail, the rise of Dorje Shugden came about under very stressful circumstances, so it is a surprise that so much details can still be passed down to us till this day.

Dorje Shugden rose at a time, outside military forces to Tibet started to exert their influence on Tibet like the Mongolian forces. Soon Tibet’s larger neighbour China also fell under the Manchus who conquered China. So it was a time of much strife.

Tsem Rinpoche has worked very hard over the years to provide accurate and important information about Dorje Shugden to dispel the malicious disinformation spread about the Protector. It is fantastic that Rinpoche’s efforts have translated into many people such as the commenter seeing the beauty in Dorje Shugden’s practice. Also Suzy has an interesting opinion about why His Holiness banned the practice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vl-4lIwxph4&t=11s

Trode Khangsar Chapel in Lhasa, Tibet

Over 400 years ago a great and learned lama Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen was famed in Mongolia, Tibet, Nepal and China for being very saintly and compassionate. He resided in his residence (Zimkhang Gongma Ladrang) in Drepung Monastery. His root guru was H.H. the Omniscient 4th Panchen Lama and his close dharma brother was the 5th Dalai Lama.

The 5th Dalai Lama and Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen had a very close and dharmic relationship and often went to receive teachings together from the 4th Panchen Lama. They were close in age. They both became very learned and well known. During this time, the Dalai Lama was enthroned as a Dharma King of Tibet. But more people went to see Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen for teachings, initiations and divinations. This made the attendants of the 5th Dalai Lama feel threatened that Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s fame might usurp the power of the 5th Dalai Lama. So they had a khata forced down his throat. At that moment, Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen dissolved his psychic winds and generated the wish to be a great guardian of Buddha and Tsongkapa’s teachings. As his consciousness dissolved, he entered ‘bardo’ as a dharma protector of the highest order (jikten depey sungma). Many signs were seen throughout Lhasa at this time and the earth was said to have shaken in Lhasa. This event was already predicted to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s previous incarnation when he was one of the 8 main disciples of Lord Tsongkapa the Supreme Master and he served Tsongkapa directly by building Gaden Monastery.

When the 5th Dalai Lama heard what his scheming and power-hungry attendants had done, he was very distressed. He was very sorry Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen was murdered and dishonored as he was a great dharma master. The 5th Dalai Lama composed an apology to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen. In Lhasa, tens of thousands gathered for the cremation of Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s holy body. During the cremation, the 5th Dalai Lama’s apology was read out at which flames spontaneously arose from the body of Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen commencing the cremation. From the body, during cremation, a powerful whirlwind of smoke tunneled into the sky for all to see as this was an indication Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s consciousness has arisen as the Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden. The Dharma Protector Setrap immediately recognized this new protector Dorje Shugden and ‘enthroned’ him as a powerful Dharma Protector in the realm of the Buddhas. From this, Setrap and Dorje Shugden are closely connected and very close working hand in hand always. After the cremation, the great 5th Dalai Lama built a Dorje Shugden chapel on the spot the cremation took place and named it Trode Khangsar. The 5th Dalai Lama commissioned the statue of Dorje Shugden in this chapel and had monks installed in the chapel to do continuous propitiations to Dorje Shugden. Trode Khangsar Chapel was a commemoration to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen who was wronged and also a celebration of his consciousness arising as the World Peace Peace Protector Dorje Shugden.

This Trode Khangsar Chapel still exists now in Lhasa where many make pilgrimages there. It is in good condition and was recently renovated. It is over 400 years old and a testimony to the respect the Great 5th Dalai Lama had to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen who arose as Dorje Shugden.

I have visited this holy chapel in Lhasa years back. I’ve never heard of it till I was in Lhasa and by chance, I was told about it which I was happy to visit. I could not find the place but strangely a bunch of pilgrims from Amdo told me they would show me how to get there in Lhasa.

This short video is a short clip of this holy Trode Khangsar Chapel in Lhasa today commemorating Dorje Shugden, built by the great 5th Dalai Lama. The great 5th Dalai Lama even composed a prayer to Dorje Shugden which is still available today and we can recite to invoke the blessings, protection, and assistance of World Peace Protector Dorje Shugden.

    HUM
Though unmoving from the sphere of primordial spontaneity,
With wrathful turbulent power, swifter than lightning,
Endowed with heroic courage to judge good and bad,
I invite you with faith, please come to this place!

Robes of a monk, crown adorned with rhinoceros leather hat,
Right hand holds ornate club, left holds a human heart,
Riding various mounts such as nagas and garudas,
Who subdues the mamos of the charnel grounds, praise to you!

Samaya substances, offerings and torma, outer, inner and secret,
Favourite visual offerings and various objects are arranged.
Although, previously, my wishes were a bit dense,
Do not stop your powerful apparitions, I reveal and confess!

Now respectfully praising with body, speech, and mind,
For us, the masters, disciples, benefactors and entourages,
Provide the good and avert the bad!
Bring increase like the waxing moon in spiritual and temporal realms!

    Moreover, swiftly accomplishing all wishes,
According to our prayers, bestow the supreme effortlessly!
And like the jewel that bestows all wishes,
Always protect us with the Three Jewels!

5 things I learned from the graphic Novel
    – Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen came from illustrious incarnation line of great scholar and yogi with attainments
    – During one of his previous incarnations, as Duldzin Drakpa Gyaltsen, he promised to arise as uncommon protector to protect Lama Tsongkhapa’s teaching
    – Out of compassion and to fulfill his promise, Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen allowed himself to be killed
    – Because the intent of Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen’s killer is not good, and for the heavy karma of killing a high lama, there were many calamities in the region after Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen was killed
    – Many high lamas including Dalai Lama could not destroyed Dorje Shugden with various pujas. This is a proof that DS is enlightened.

“If the Dalai Lama, if His Holiness the Dalai Lama can be harmed by Dorje Shugden, then we might as well not practice Buddhism anymore. If His Holiness the Dalai Lama can have his life shortened by a so-called evil spirit, any evil spirit, then can he be Avalokiteshvara? So on one hand you say, we say, I say, everybody says, he is Avalokiteshvara; on the other hand you’re saying that he can harmed by an evil spirit… Which one is it? Can he harmed by an evil spirit or is he Avalokiteshvara? Do you think Avalokiteshvara, Manjushri, Vajrapani, Tara all take refuge in something else to protect themselves from Dorje Shugden? How illogical is that? How illogical of people to say His Holiness the Dalai Lama can be harmed by an evil spirit, any evil spirit or “Dorje Shugden” evil spirit. How is that possible?” – Tsem Tulku Rinpoche

    Dear Rinpoche,

    I remember my Grandma giving me this graphic novel to read. 🙂 It was a great book, although, at that time, I didn’t fully understand it. Now that I know a little more about Dorje Shugden and his lineage, when I went back to reread the book, I found it much more interesting than the last time. 🙂 Everything about this lineage is very interesting. And I find it fun to memorise the Four Drakpa’s :-). Pancen Sonam Drakpa, Tulku Drakpa Geltsyen, … … well, I’ve forgotten two. ^^;

But I will go back and memorise them again. And in chronological order too. 🙂

    Your humble student,
    Keng Hwa.

This is a fascinating story indeed. This story really shows how holy and powerful the Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden is. I don’t see any reason there for The Dalai Lama and the CTA to banned Dorje Shugden’s practice. It is so pure and beautiful. Dorje Shugden practices are known throughout the whole entire world. How is it able for Dorje Shugden to be an “evil spirit” when he has taken so many reincarnations and most of his reincarnations are widely known throughout Tibet, China, Nepal and India. How can Dorje Shugden be an evil spirit event when he has been recognized as an enlightened dharma protector by the 5th Dalai Lama? I have been practicing Dorje Shugden for most of my life and I can’t find anything wrong with practicing Dorje Shugden, instead he has helped me, my family and friends in many ways. I totally believe that Dorje Shugden is a rea Dharma protector and he is not an evil spirit. No matter what other people say about Dorje Shugden, I will always continue to believe in him even after my death.

I love this! I have a copy of the graphic novel as well. When i was younger and had little knowledge about Dorje Shugden, i read the graphic novel. It is really a fantastic way for children and young adults to learn about Dorje Shugden. The pictures and the way it looks like a comic book, makes it appealing to everyone, especially the younger age groups. It would make them want to read on as there are more pictures! haha.

But what is most important is that people learn from the novel. Its not only fun to read but also fun to learn about Dorje Shugen. The message and story of Dorje Shugden is very well explained in the graphic novel and the language is also very easy for children to understand. It is a very smart way of spreading awareness of Dorje Shugden. I hope that many buy the graphic novel. Or at least come here to read it online.

Thank you Rinpoche for both the comic and the video with all of us here on the blog.

It is just such a great honour to be able to read the full story of Dorje Shugden. How has the previous lives of Dorje Shugden is like and how he manifested to be who he is. It is interesting to me that Manjushri manifested as a student of Shakyamuni’s time and also during Lord Tsongkhapa’s time.

From the actions that Dulzin Drapkpa Gyeltsen knowing that the dove that flew in during Tsongkhapa’s teachings, it has already shown the clairvoyance of this great master. I think it is really cool that the dove later appeared as Nechung in the form of a young boy when Dulzin Drakpa Gyeltsen confronted the dove.

From the fire puja not being able to subdue Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen it shows that Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen is not a evil spirit or even a spirit. Instead, he has already manifested to become a protector. Through the wrath that was manifested, it has aided him to become a dhrama protector.

with that, it shows that there is no wrong in taking refuge in Dorje Shugden or even practicing Dorje Shugden. Reason being that this great protector has agreed to become a uncommon protector of our times to help liberate us.

Today, I’ve finished reading the whole text. I never knew much of Dorje Shugden, but now I have seen the litht. As the famous picture of Aleister Crowley & the Lamp of Wisdom. I got a New Kadampa Tradition initiation of Yhe Tsongkhapa, I barely could gather the money to pay the fee & buy the offerings, but I have always loved Buddhism so much that I did it whole heartedly by the then whole Mexico’s director. Unfortunately, that monk was feeling isolated from the central, not receiving feedback from England & asked to leave Mexico, seems he was discharged as a monk, he asked to become monk again, but Geshelah seems to have denied him such privilege. Then a very brilliant swiss lady took his post, she could speak 5 languages, had a perfect exposition even in Spanish & I met her here in Mazatlán, México at my friend the 72-year-old Kkadampa nun Ani Kelsang Khachö. Also got initiations of Hayagriva by the Dalai Lama ambassors here in town plus one or two by a Nepalese monk also (he said “The Dalai Lama doesn’t like Dorje Shugden”.
    Regards, Guillermo Soelter Mora.
Post Stamp.-I pray to the the West protector “Archangel Michael & Kuan Yin” for Dorje Shugden affair to be solved.

Thank you so very much to everyone involved in this project. It saved me some money right now to have it free. I still want the book though…

This is Tsem Rinpoche’s compassion, allowing us to view this book freely… Who else makes books and then allows them to be published FOR FREE.

It makes me really feel like any money you DO give to Tsem Rinpoche or Kechara will be well spent. The proof is right here. There are a lot of people out there who don’t even have 8 dollars for a book, yet at the same time will benefit much from reading it. Here it is.

That MEANS something, you know? It does to me. Rinpoche knows (or he does now) I’m a cheapskate but he still takes care of me. I never really have to spend a dime on Dharma from Kechara. I try to, though, because that’s how laypeople collect merits. Im never forced to. Never.

This comic book is really a jewel to those who’s interested in Dorje Shugden. It is the fastest and most interesting way to learn about Dorje Shugden. From young until old also easy to read and understand. I love it because of the colourful illustrations. Not only that, it came from a very reliable recourses based on ‘Music Delighting the Ocean of Protectors’ which is a whole volume of text solely devoted to the history and practice of Dorje Shugden written by His Holiness Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche.

H.H. Trijang Rinpoche even predicted there will be ‘obstacles’ to the growth of Dorje Shugden in the future after he has passed. When that time comes he has penned down accurate information on this supreme protector so we can all refer to this text. He composed this text for those to learn more on Dorje Shugden. I do hope more and more people will find the truth of Dorje Shugden who is the true protector who has benefited countless people. Please do not discriminate those who love Dorje Shugden and follow the practice. I solute those who hold on to the practice and go all the way despite of all the hardship and hurtful experience that they faced due to the ban. My prayers with them always. I sincerely request HHDL to remove the ban.

“World Peace Buddha and Protector Gyelchen Dorje Shugden” (?) If there ever is a protector, we need it now. Seriously, the above photo of HH Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche & Roman Catholic Pope meeting help connect the dots I’ve been looking for, thanks. Possibly a initial clue as to why Shugden practice was banned considering Vatican in Rome, is the seat of global power & control. Shugden practices doesn’t comply with their beliefs & agenda, it’s the opposite.

Knowing the background of Dorje Shugden which is from “Music Delighting the Ocean of Protectors” composed by Kyabje Trijang Dorje Chang, I have no doubt for the authenticity from our lineage master.

It’s very informative and make sense that Dorje Shugden is an enlightened protector as if he’s a spirit he would be subdued or killed during the fire Puja. This point is unarguable.

How kind of H.H. Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche to write down the practice, lineage, rituals, mandalas, meditations, history and benefits of Dorje Shugden in “Music Delighting, The Ocean of Protectors”.

I cannot imagine how a such a holy lama was killed due to jealousy and his future incarnations were outlawed, and his ladrang confiscated. All records of Him and His writings were destroyed. And many lamas suffered the same fate. May this never happen again!

A BIG thank you to Rinpoche and the people who allowed this to be shared with people around the world.
But most of all, a BIGGER thank you to Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche for writing ‘Music Delighting The Ocean of Protectors’ with such accurate information for without this we and the future generations will not be able to understand the whole story.
The illustrated story practically sum up quite a lot of information for new people and especially children who love to watch stories rather than reading. I really do hope that this will bring much clearer picture for the people who have wrong views of Dorje Shugden.
May the misunderstanding and ban be lifted ASAP.

May Dorje Shugden be recognized officially by His Holiness Dalai Lama as the protector of our time.

Wow, this graphic novel is a quick and easy way to learn about the story of Dorje Shugden. The illustration story is also an interaction method of learning. Thank you Rinpoche for sharing them on Rinpoche’s blog. It is easy to share Dorje Shugden’s story with people, even young individuals, using this material.

Personally, it is awesome to read about all the renowned Dorje Shugden Lamas of the Gelugpa lineage whose work has caused the Dharma to flourish outside of Tibet today. These Lama’s who practice Dorje Shugden are the most illustrious of our time. In fact, their reincarnations have all returned to continue turning the wheel of Dharma. This shows that Dorje Shugden is practiced by high Lamas over several lifetimes, which in turn means that the practice is one that has a track record of tangible and accountable benefits.

Another factor that stands out is that Dorje Shugden is a only Protector i know of that especially arose from a High Lama to become a Protector. In fact, a lot of effort was put into the manifestation of Dorje Shugden from the lifetime of Dultzin Dragpa Gyeltsen. Unlike Dorje Shugden, other protectors either arose from unenlightened beings that were tamed by Guru Rinpoche to protect the Dharma or are emanation of enlightened Buddhas, e.g. Setrap is the emanation of Amitabha. If all the great masters and “servants” of Dharma would plot to create the cause for DOrje Shugden to manifest, Dorje Shugden is an extremely special and important Dharma protector.

This illustrated story of Lord Dorje Shugden video and graphic novel is profound and easy understanding. I personal like the comic,i hope at future can make the comic in 3D movie, i believe many people will like at watch it again and again.

Thank you Rinpoche and who involve creating this beautiful comic book and video sharing to many friends in the world.I had more understand and clear about Dorje shugden lineage, ritual and how his practice has passed down from Tagphu Pemavajra who received the practice from Dorje Shugden directly and pass down to Kyabje Pabongka Dorje Chang and Kyabje Trijang Dorje Chang who composed “Music Delighting the Ocean of Protectors”.

Thank you Rinpoche for this wonderful comic of Dorje Shugden. It is very nicely illustrated and makes us easy to remember the story of Protector Dorje Shugden. Since this comic is based on “Music Delighting the Ocean of Protectors” by Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche, I will have no doubt on its accuracy. On the other hand, it is very sad to know that the then Government of feudal Tibet had destroyed all records and written works. But we are very lucky to have Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche to preserve the practice of Protector Dorje Shugden and many high lama to spread this very beneficial practice around the world. Thank you Rinpoche.

This is a beautifully illustrated story of Lord Dorje Shugden which is easy to understand and shows clearly the lineage and authenticity of Dorje Shudgen. It also shows how faultless this authentic practise has been carried down to us of this present time. The Gurus are faultless as are the dharma they taught, therefore their practise of Dorje Shugden would be faultless too. Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

  49. DR on Mar 11, 2015 at 6:39 pm

The producer of the video has put in much research and thoughts into producing it. The lineage and history is all ‘packed’ into a 29min video. One of the things I appreciate most about the video is that although it is produced in the West (judging from the narration), it has Chinese subtitle too that will benefit the people in China as the practice of Dorje Shugden is very popular in mainland China.

As I watched the concise video again, it’s baffling why the anti Dorje Shugden people are still in denial and creating so much animosity towards the practitioners when the history and lineage is undisputed. I have heard repeatedly from critics saying that Dorje Shugden practice shortens the Dalai Lama’s life. Even in the most simplistic thinking (without going back to the history), how can Chenresig on earth (as the Dalai Lama is often referred to as) be affected by an evil spirit? And even IF Dorje Shugden is an evil spirit, then why can’t the great masters in the monastery and monks do a ritual to dispel the spirit? So to me, it all just doesn’t make sense.

The conflict on Dorje Shugden practice has gone beyond just politics and denying practitioners of religious freedom. It has escalated to the stage where practitioners are denied of even basic human rights imposed and inflicted by those from the anti Dorje Shugden side resulting in families and friends breaking up, children being denied of entry to schools, the sick denied of medical facilities, etc etc. It is so sad to see that something as pure as a Buddhist practice can become so painful for the sincere practitioners.

May many more be educated and enlightened by this video and comic and bring an end to the conflict soon. Thank you Rinpoche for always bringing the Truth to all sentient beings in ways that the mass can relate too. This is one of the many qualities of Dorje Shugden as symbolised by his curved sword: using skillful methods in helping those drowning in the ocean of samsara.

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this graphic novel that tells so clearly the story of how Dorje Shugden arose as a Supramundane Protector and of the illustrious Lineage of incarnations of Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen from whom Dorje Shugden arose. The graphic novel is based on the historical account as given by Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche in “Music delighting the Ocean of Protectors” .

This gives all readers the blessed opportunity to learn from an authentic source the whole story of how and why Dorje Shugden arose to serve specifically the needs of this degenerate age – to protect the profound wisdom teachings of Je Tsonghkhapa -based on Nagarjuna’s unerring Middle View of Emptiness, the correct view. The illustrated story allows even children to understand the story of Dorje Shugden.

This illustrated story of Dorje Shugden is based on H.H. Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche’s “Music Delighting the Ocean of Protectors”. Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche’s work is very useful to understand and appreciate the reasons Dorje Shugden arose as a Protector. The concept of rebirth has a long association with Buddhism. Rebirth in Buddhism refers to the teaching that the actions of a sentient being lead to a new existence after death, in an endless cycle called saṃsāra. One will begins a new life in a new body that may be human, animal or spiritual depending on the moral quality of the previous life’s actions. What they are reborn as depends on their actions in their previous life rather kamma. As a Buddhist we should believe in rebirth but still many people don’t . Buddha taught us that choices of rebirth make a difference and can shape many lifetimes. Buddhists believe that nothing that exists is permanent and everything will ultimately cease to be. Against the odds two inspiring nuns fought all the way to become ordained, fighting for their rights to practice Buddhism . Interesting read of how they went through , bringing equality for women in Thailand. Buddhism is the predominant religion in Thailand. Officially, only men can become monks and novices in Thailand under a Buddhist order. The country does not recognize female monks or novices. In recent years, more Thai Buddhist women seeking to become full-fledged female monks, have been defying the tradition getting ordained overseas, in Sri Lanka or India. Buddhist women have been fighting for years for equality and social acceptance in Thailand. They just can’t be ordained by Thai monks. Ven. Dhammananda, 68 year old former university lecturer and activist became Thailand’s first Theravadin bhikkhuni after going the odds. Inspiring read biography on Ven. Dhammananda and Ven. Dr. Lee. They had gone through great hardships, discrimination and against the many odds in bringing equality to women in Buddhism in Thailand.

The unseen things are spiritual realities that are eternal and invisible to our physical eye. There are many forces and phenomena that are not visible to the naked eye. There are many things that humans cannot see yet there are some could see. For what is can be seen is only. Things do exist even we can’t see, believing their existence is our choice. Things that we can’t see in the world opens up a curiosity and exploration by some. Whether through scientific inquiry, or spiritual exploration, the pursuit of knowledge about the unseen can lead to profound insights about ourselves and the universe.
Malacca City is the historic capital of the coastal state of Malacca, in Malaysia serving as a link between east and west for over 500 years. Famous for breath-taking sights with rich heritage, ancient dark culture and history with many old centuries buildings with an interesting past and a colourful ghost story. For that reason alone it is worth visiting as is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site owing to its well-preserved historical center. There’s many historical mansions been passed down generation to generations and with many ghostly sighting by the locals and visitors. There’s the reason many unseen beings loitering and attached to these places. Such an interesting and incredibly creepy watching the video in this blog host by Li Kim. Vajrayogini symbolizes the wisdom of all enlightened beings and embodies the impulse of inspiration that drives the Buddhas to attain the perfect enlightenment. Vajrayogini is one of the most effective practices for people today. We can make offerings such as gold or jewel offerings and so on. The offering of gold helps us to collect merits, spiritual attainments, gain a deeper connection to Vajrayogini. It also creates the causes to attain a Buddha’s body.
Make Offerings to Vajrayogini in Kechara Forest Retreat at Bentong is such an meritorious way for us to collect merits. All thanks to our Guru having conceptualised the idea of having a statue of Vajrayogini for everyone . Recitation of Vajrayogini mantra can be a powerful tool for self-transformation, healing and liberation from samsara.

Thank you, Rinpoche for sharing this insightful article. Life is short, and if we enjoy every moment of every day, then we will be happy no matter what happens or what changes along the way. What ever matter to us at the time of death is nothing. In the end, it’s not the years in our life that count it’s what you leave behind that matters. A great soul never dies. It brings us together again and again.Death is the golden key that opens the palace of eternity. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time. Learning Dharma and practicing dharma is the our choice that’s matter. Some of the key points to take notes, read, study the Lam Rim and apply it, engage in Sadhana daily and consistently. No one will help us at the moment of death but ourselves. Spiritual practicing is the best choice.

Well the size of Buddha statues in Tibetan Buddhism is important because it represents the Buddha’s immense ability and vast knowledge. Hence the Buddha statues hold the symbol of satisfaction within, peace and happiness. They are a symbol of inspiration for every human being. When we focus on the Buddha statues, it gives us inner peace that our mind, our heart and our soul gets enlightened.
We have are so fortunate seeing and circumambulating where the 9-foot Dorje Shugden statue and with 500 mantra stones engraved with Dorje Shugden’s sacred mantra. As Rinpoche had said before the bigger and more Buddha statues helps in planting seeds of enlightenment in people’s mind-streams. It also help us to generate as much merit and purify as much karma as possible. Merely by seeing all those big statues at Kechara Forest Retreat is a blessing.
    Thank you Rinpoche.

The 4th Tagpu Pemavajra Jampel Tenpai Ngodrub, most commonly known as Tagpu Dorje Chang, was a highly accomplished yogi Highly attained lama who had many authentic visions of the Buddhas and even travel astrally to receive direct teachings from them. His recognised line of incarnations stem all the way back to the 14th Century. He is generally regarded as such amongst Gelug lineage holders. He spent most of his time in a hermitage located above Sera Monastery, gave teachings and transmitted many vital practices and lineages to his foremost student Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche. Besides receiving the complete instructions of Dorje Shugden’s practice, Tagpu Dorje Chang had many other mystical experiences throughout his lifetime. n Tibetan culture, it is a popular and customary practice for families to invite monks to perform spiritual ceremonies such as Trusol rituals. The monks have had the opportunity to offer such ceremonies for individuals or their families. Such ceremonies purify the elements of the environment which helps those living or visiting there to experience good health, success and well-being. The sacred ritual of ‘bathing’ the Buddhas and consecration through which negativities, sicknesses and obstacles will be cleared. Where by filling those areas with positive energies and good vibes through this Trusol consecration puja. Water is an essential part of this puja and symbolises the cleansing of all negativities and impurities. Through this puja it also pacifies local deities and other unseen beings in the surrounding areas. We are indeed fortunate that Tsem Rinpoche has taught Kecharians this practice and it has benefited many.

Reading this post had me gain some knowledge of Shifter Werewolves. Any article regarding rare creatures or paranormal articles are of my interest since young. In European folklore, a werewolf is a man who turns into a wolf at night and devours animals, people, or corpses but returns to human form by day. They have the ability to transform from an ordinary human appearance to a partially-lupine form with pointed ears, mutton chops, claws and fangs, and a ridged brow . Wow… werewolf tends to be vicious and unable to control his blood thirst. Their underlying common origin can be traced back to Proto-Indo-European mythology. In many depictions, these bloodthirsty beasts are evil where they kill animals and innocent people. They are humans who transition into wolf-like creatures, after being placed under a curse. In folklore, most werewolves originate from being cursed or bitten by another werewolf. That’s what they do believe. According many enthusiasts, there’s many different type of werewolves such as Alpha wolves, Beta wolves , Deltas, Elders, some survive as loners while others move in packs. How true it is no one knows. I do believe their existing . Many interesting stories related to these wolves in the past history.

Beautiful Dorje Shugden at Malacca. One should pay a visit there, located at a busy tourist place. It was such an auspicious occasion that a grand Puja was held there. Dedicated students and volunteers were there getting the place ready for the grand puja. Well the Grand Dorje Shugden puja was conducted by very own Kechara puja team to commemorate the chapel’s 3rd anniversary. Many people attended the Puja that’s wonderful to receive the powerful Protector Dorje Shugden blessings. More people will make a connection and get to know Manjushri, the Buddha of Wisdom, in the form of a Dharma Protector. May Dorje Shugden’s practice flourish to benefit those tourists and locals.

Venerable Geshe Rabten Rinpoche is a highly realised meditation master known as a debater, scholar, and meditation master, was the first Tibetan Buddhist master to introduce the complete Vinaya-tradition. He had also introduce the study of the five major topics of Buddhism to the West. He became the ‘path breaker’ of the complete and complex teachings of Buddhism in the West. Many masters, who are famous in the West today, were Geshe’s students. enerable Geshe Rabten. Geshe Rabten wrote the beautiful and Manjushri’s prayer called Gangloma and gave a profound explanation. We are so fortunate to learn about this Manjushri’s sacred prayer. May all be blessed by the practice of Lord Manjushri and Geshe Rabten’s explanation.

The begging bowl or alms bowl is one of the simplest but most important objects in the daily lives of Theravada Buddhist monks. The alms bowl still stands as an emblem of how all Buddhas, as numerous as grains of sand in the Ganges, practiced to end their desire. All those who receive the alms bowl should focus their mind to act with self-control and self-respect. Almsgiving is a tradition of Theravada Buddhists, majority in Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Laos. In those early days of Buddhism, monks would take their bowls and go out begging for food. As today in Thailand one could see monks woke up before dawn every morning and carried his bowl through the roads or paths wherever he was staying. Local people would place food in the bowl as a donation, through the generosity of lay people. They accept whatever food is offered for them and eat whatever been given, serve as a blessing for the giver.
One bowl has held the food of a thousand families. A solitary monastic travels on his journey of a hundred thousand miles seeking liberation from the cycle of birth and death.
Thank you H.E. Tsem Rinpoche for explaining the meaning of begging and gave us more reasons to be vegetarian . Create a awareness among us not killing animals to be one.

Ajahn Siripanyo, the son of billionaire Ananda Krishnan, chose to abandon his inheritance and become a Buddhist monk in pursuit of spirituality. A Thai-Malaysian monk born in London and educated in UK. He was ordained in Thailand and lived there, leaving behind a life of immense wealth and privilege. He did surprised many and his choice was unexpected. Initially as a temporary measure, but somehow later evolved into a permanent way of life. Ven. Ajahn Siripanyo is now the Abbot of hermitage Dtao Dam on the Thai-Burmese border in Saiyok National Park, Thailand.
He was in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia years back giving an enthralling Dhamma talk on the timeless teachings of Ajahn Chah.
Thank you Rinpoche for this inspiring sharing.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.
~Tsem Rinpoche

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
