How I yearn for thee
October 17, 2011
I woke up from a very vivid dream today. I was in South India on a road on the way to Sera Monastery. I came across vast tracts of land very green with beautiful lively mountains in the background. Behind the mountains was a large clean river. The mountains were not bare or too rocky but had trees and was not sparse. The whole place and seen was very green, calm and breezy. Not hot at all… I said to Dato’ Ruby in my dream I really like this place and asked one of the monks to find out the price. I wanted to build a retreat house there and live forever in the area. Even in my dreams I am looking for mountains and trees. A few days ago I dreamed I was driving in Colorado ( I think) and came across a house being built from stone with green roofs and with mountains in the background. Again Dato’ Ruby was with me and I told her I found the place interesting with the mountains in the background. Funny… two dreams of mountains and houses in the same week.
Since very young I have been attracted to pictures and writings about mountains. I have always wished to live in the mountains with a spectacular Buddha shrine in my room and views from my windows of the wilderness. Endless vistas, trees, deers and wildflowers is what I have been yearning for… I have that strong attraction now and it comes out in my dreams. I don’t know if I can ever get to live in the mountains as my work never allows me to have what I really want, but I guess I can live with that. My life is about service to others and not myself.

Dear Rinpoche, thank you for this post.
Of late, my troubled mind keeps thinking of a place to go and find peace. I love mountains, trees, lakes and lovely scenes of pristine nature too as a quiet resting place to recharge the spirit.
Like Rinpoche says, we can have such yearnings and dreams but we have still a lot to do to serve others. No time to rest.Robert Frost’s poetry comes to my mind often these days:
‘The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep
And miles to go
Before I sleep(rest),
And miles to go
Before I sleep…
Impressive thoughts. Often, I found myself in what you share with us and that is very impressive for me.
Thank You Rinpoche!
