I-Phone 4
Dear everyone,
I had Jean Ai do a critique on the new I phone 4 and let me know the plus and minuses. Well, you can see up here, she did a very thorough job. So I thought I’d share it with everyone else since it is such a craze…personally I don’t know if I should stick to my current Nokia N86 because I like the camera, or switch to I phone or blackberry. The good camera helps me to snap pics for my blog here. And I phones and blackberries do not have high definition cameras so far.
Which one will make me more efficient for KH. I am not into technology and do not enjoy all these new phones, but I like efficiency. So this forces me to learn up. Forces me to learn up.
She can be a phone critic in the future…hehe. She is very good.
The opinions above are our own opinions, we mean no bad advertisement for the I phone 4 in anyway, nor are we promoting it either. It is just to share with friends our personal research in accordance with our persoanl needs.
Thank you Jean Ai for such a thorough job as usual.
Enjoy the review.

Problems
- Most commonly reported problem is the drop in reception/ signal on the phone. Apple has acknowledged this issue, and says it is due to the way some users hold their phones.
- Rear camera stops working.
- While the glass on the phone is strong (some have dropped it from buildings and it hasn’t broken), there have been reports of people managing to break the glass.
- Due to the touchscreen’s sensitivity, some users have reported their cheeks and ears activating different functions during phone calls, or accidentally muting or hanging up the calls.
- White balance on camera stops working (making photos appear overly yellow).
- Does not support Flash which makes viewing some websites quite difficult.
- Edges on the phone feel a bit sharp, and not as comfortable to hold as the old iPhones
Solution: change the way we hold the phone, or get a casing for the phone
Solution: take to Apple to fix
Solution: get a casing for the phone
Solution: none as yet

Apple iPhone 4 sales strong in China
More than 200,000 Apple iPhone 4s have been snapped up in China within days of going on sale while waiting lists stretch to the end of October, state media reported Wednesday.
About 100,000 units were sold in the first four days and another 100,000 are on back order in the world’s largest mobile market, the China Daily newspaper reported, citing Apple’s mobile operator partner China Unicom.
“The sales of previous versions of iPhones created a solid foundation for the iPhone 4,” China Unicom senior vice-president Li Gang was quoted as saying.
The 16-gigabyte version of the smartphone, which has wireless Internet capability, costs 4,999 yuan (744 dollars) with the 32-gigabyte selling for 5,999 yuan, Apple has said.
The phone — which made its world debut in June — is being sold at Apple stores in Beijing and Shanghai, China Unicom outlets and other consumer electronics stores.
Unicom, the country’s second-largest mobile phone operator, reportedly took nearly 50,000 pre-orders for the iPhone 4 on September 17, the opening day for reservations.
The phone debuted in China on September 25, just a week after Apple officially launched the iPad in the country, with some customers queuing up for several days to ensure they got their hands on the tablet computer.
Both products have been available for several months on China’s grey market, which has been booming thanks to great demand for Apple goods.
The earlier version of the iPhone only officially went on sale in China in October — more than two years after its US launch.
China has at least 420 million web users and is also the world’s largest mobile market with more than 800 million subscribers as of the end of June, according to official data.

I am looking forward to watching, hearing, smelling, and learning again from the Tibetan monks who are making a World Peace Sand Mandala in San Luis Obispo California. The Fire Puja is considered the most powerful with Tibetan Buddhism. It’s one of the most spiritual things I’ve ever experienced. Mimi Goldberg
I like iPhones mainly because of the various applications. For example, there are so many aps you can download for the camera. One of my favourite is the lomo camera effects. I’m fine with the touch screen. It’s just not as fast as a keypad. The advantages of a touch screen is you get bigger screen which means better viewing of webpages and YouTube video.
I would like to add that one of the major issue most people have with the iPhone 3G/3Gs is the short battery life span … especially if 3G data and WiFi is turned all the time. However, it has been reported that the new iPhone 4 can last up to 38 hours on heavy usage. Not too sure how true is that though.
Dear Rinpoche,
I would strongly suggest to get Iphone4. The camera resolution is very good plus the shutter speed is very fast. Good for snapping candid shots without the blurry effect of normal phone camera. Plus it takes video in HD (flip of finger).
Some phone cameras takes high resolution pictures but is very slow.
Also easy to update both your blog and twitter with Iphone’s limitless apps.
Dear GK Ham,
Thank your for your suggestion. I like what you wrote about the camera resolution and also the quickness of the shutter speed. The shutter speed on our Nokias are too slow for many things. I like the fact it is easy to update for blog. Much appreciation, Tsem Tulku
i just got a samsung, it’s very basic but it has a camera and i can charge it from my laptop so i don’t have to use more than one plug.
i like phones a lot, they are big attachment for me. i can take pictures all day long. sometimes i cant say things in words. a while ago before i met you, i was so sad… i couldn’t really even express myself in words… and i would just shoot pictures from my camera phone all day. i think visual representations are better.
i want a droid i think. i dont really want to support at&t. right now u can only get an iphone at at&t in the USA. I like having choices and everyone carries droid phones.
Hi Rinpoche,
With regards to the signal reception, it appears that not all sets have the reception problem (nicknamed the death grip by its users) and it can be solved by using an additional case. Apple will also provide a ‘bumper’ for the phone free of charge once it is reported to them.
the touchscreen sensitivity would not happen most of the time as the phone has a sensor that will detect if your face is near and will switch off the screen automatically. Certain sets have a defective sensor and can be exchanged with Apple.
Thank you
Dear Rinpoche, thank you for asking Jean Ai to do this and posting it. Really helps to have a unbiased 3rd party review. Thank you Jean Ai and Shin for a good review. Rinpoche, I look forward to reading your blog. When i get angry or upset with someone at work, i go to your blog and esp on the posting about how we should treat our colleagues or people we intereact at work. At lunch when i am in the office, i read your blog. Its very interesting, informative and best of all, i receive teachings every time. On the iPhone, they say if you are a blackberry user, you will not like the iPhone, and vice versa. I have a Samsung touch screen phone given to me and i dont like it. I prefer my blackberry because it is efficient and touch screen is just too cumbersome for me to navigate. The camera on blackberry is not that great, but the pictures are acceptable quality.
That review was the best one I have seen on the whole internet.
I’m not into cellphones, mainly because I’m poor (in money, not spirit). Also, I really don’t like to be called all the time, I really don’t! I hate being able to be reached at any given moment. I think this comes from my struggle with anxiety disorder. I like to know what is coming at me, so I can prepare. That’s definitely anxiety. Migtsema recitations and wearing a Buddha pendant really has balanced my energy though. I am so much better than I used to be last year, 2 years, 3 years etc. I could cry. That is why I have begun to develop strong Guru Devotion. Because the medicine really works, and it’s not pills! Sorry I ramble alot!
Those Smartphones do amazing things, though. I will eventually have to pick one up, because it’s soo much more than a PHONE.
Some of the iPhone problems are solved in the HTC Desire HD Handphone, example Flash program, plus many nice and cleaver features too.

I like my BlackBerry phone, for fast texting purpose and simple navigation to do what I want. 🙂
