Leshan Giant Buddha
UNESCO World Heritage Site
Built during the Tang Dynasty (618–907AD). It is carved out of a cliff face that lies at the confluence of the Minjiang, Dadu and Qingyi rivers in the southern part of Sichuan province in China, near the city of Leshan. The stone sculpture faces Mount Emei, with the rivers flowing below his feet. It is the largest carved stone Buddha in the world and it is by far the tallest pre-modern statue in the world.

Its such a beautiful place to combine travelling and holidays with spirituality to collect merit, plant Dharma seeds and be blessed, as advice by Rinpoche.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing .
Leshan Buddha was created to pacify the waters in a turbulent river, to make it safe for the ship vessels and it has been watching after the safety of the people using that river ever since. May the chinese government help preserve the this icon for future generations.
This is such a beautiful place to visit! I never ever thought I’d one day like to visit China… but with so many holy pilgrimage sites like this and Wu Tai San where Manjushri comes from… I would not mind to do a pilgrimage to China one day.
You can see here a video of Tsem Rinpoche visiting the holy site of Le Shan Buddha http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7DczsOQdz4
It is enormous and the scenery is so breath taking!!! I am so glad that China have opened up and being more and more supportive towards spirituality, spiritual places and if I may say so from my own observation… they are not only reviving their own spiritual heritage but also Tibetan Buddhism. This is a good sign indeed, as Dharma may arise again from the East!
