From TheBuddhism.Net
The Ruwanwelisaya is a stupa in Sri Lanka, considered a marvel for its architectural qualities and sacred to many Buddhists all over the world. It was built by King Dutugemunu, who became lord of all Sri Lanka after a war in which the Chola King Elara, was defeated. It is also known as Mahathupa, Swarnamali Chaitya,Suvarnamali Mahaceti (in Pali) and Rathnamali Dagaba.
This is one of the Solosmasthana (the 16 places of veneration) and theAtamasthana (the 8 places of veneration in the ancient sacred city of Anuradhapura). The stupa is one of the world’s tallest monuments, standing at 300 feet (91 m) and with a circumference of 950 ft (290 m). [citation needed]
The Kaunghmudaw Pagoda in Sagaing, Myanmar is modeled after this stupa.

The Ruwanwelisaya is a stupa, a hemispherical structure containing relics, in Sri Lanka, considered sacred to many Buddhists all over the world.
It was built by the great king Dutugamunu who reigned from 137BC to 119BC . Next to Sri Maha Bodhi, Ruwanweli Seya temple is the most venerated Buddhist site in Anuradhapura. Amazing this 140-BCE stupa is an ancient, sacred Buddhist site and is one of the world’s tallest monuments. It seem that there were many thousand of the Buddha’s relics in this ancient stupa. Hence painting of this stupa was and up hill task . What we think is impossible , itis possible,if we think positively.
