Resolve Depression
From TheBuddhism.Net
Excerpt from Lama Yeshe’s talk at VajraYogini Institute, France, September 5, 1983:
“In Western cities nowadays, you can see, the older you are the more problems you have. When we are young, not so many problems, but then there are drugs and sex, and eventually they become dissatisfying, then more depression, more depression.
So, as your body becomes bigger and your brain becomes wider, you have more and more problems and become more and more depressed. The more money you have the more problems come. You can see this.
You only take care of your body, you never take care of your mind, and the result of this imbalance is depression.
For most western people this is the case: only the body is reality and they don’t care about the existence of the mind, the soul, the consciousness. They don’t believe they can change their minds. They can change their nose through an operation, but they don’t believe they can change their mind. And when you believe this, then no way can you resolve your depression.
Our thoughts, our mind or consciousness are mental energy and cannot be localised in the body. It cannot be touched; it has no form and does not travel in time and space. We cannot touch it or grasp it.
What is important to understand is that the view you have of yourself and the view you have of your environment are based on your own mind; they are the projection of your mind and that is why they are not reality.”

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this teaching with us. When we were young, there was less worry and less responsibility. As we grow older, we have more responsibility, we have more desires. What we want did not make us happier. We become more unhappy when we cannot get what we want.
Happiness is a state of mind, not how much we material possession we have accumulated. As we are chasing after a relationship, material possession, we tend to forget to take care of our mind. This is when people suffer from depression.
We have to understand nothing is permanent, material possession cannot give us long-lasting happiness. Most of our problems are created by our mind. If we can control our mind, we can control how we feel and not suffer.
Depression is a feeling of something that is too hard to forget. The imagination of past, enjoyment moment, time and money that has gone in sudden. This slowly take over a person appetite, being very lonely, unhealthy and ill.
To resolve depression, one has to spend time to talk and to divert the mind and their imagination. Consult and get friends to look for ways to help them. To look for interesting topic to talk and to spend time to take them for outing by changing the environment and meeting people. Depression is an action that need to be change. To accept tragedy and to control the feeling aside. The mind has too be very strong. The best and the only way that gives a good results is to talk to them about spiritual, teach them to meditate and pray.
Thank for the sharing, I too have helped people who have gone through their difficult time by listening to their problems and paying them a visit with friends.
That is very true we can’t just take car of our bodies. Besides the mind is eternal not the body so which one should we place more to. Actually this is something that should be very obvious to most pimple who belive there is something after death, but not many people realise or abide by it. Our lives will change if we realise this fact.
