Gurus love their students
Just before Lama Yeshe passed away, his guru Kyabje Zong Rinpoche came to the hospital to do last rites and prayers. Although Lama Yeshe was paralyzed physically, his mind was lucid, alert and full of devotion for Kyabje Zong Rinpoche. Lama Yeshe did not lose any control of his powerful mind.
Lama Yeshe had praised His Holiness Kyabje Zong Rinpoche as highly attained and without any mistakes or faults in the past and was the first lama to invite Kyabje Zong Rinpoche to the West and to his centres. Lama Yeshe received so many teachings from Kyabje Zong Rinpoche. So many of Lama Yeshe’s students were blessed with teachings, initiations, oral transmissions and protection from this enormously perfect master who was a master of the highest calibre of Sutra and Tantra. A seasoned teacher of teachers.
We should be just like Lama Yeshe and follow the teachings of H.H. Kyabje Zong Rinpoche’s lineage or our personal gurus perfectly without doubt. We should be devoted to our teachers just like Lama Yeshe was.
This picture is very touching and beautiful and one of my favorites. His Holiness Kyabje Zong Rinpoche had flown in especially from Switzerland where he was teaching at the time to California to Lama Yeshe to conduct special prayers in the hospital room. Shortly after Lama Yeshe’s holy mind left his body. Tsem Rinpoche

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing these precious pictures. It shows so much about Guru Devotion and a very close Guru and student relationship. The love and care of a Guru to his students are unlimited.
Wonderful example of Lama Yeshe showeing us how to take care of own Guru.Lama Yeshe and his many students were blessed with H.H. Kyabje Zong Rinpoche’s teachings, initiations, protection and so forth.
They has benefited from the teachings taught.Lama Yeshe had praised H.H Kyabje Zong Rinpoche as highly attained and he was devoted to him.
We should follow the teachings of H.H. Kyabje Zong Rinpoche’s lineage without doubt.
At the hospital when Lama Yeshe was so sick yet he was able to think clearly, rationally and full of devotion. When visted by his guru Kyabje Zong Rinpoche to do last rites and prayers. Lama Yeshe’s holy mind left his body after the special prayers. Thats wonderful…its show a teacher ‘s love for his student.
Just like Rinpoche taking care for his students, which i could noticed in many ways.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing these articles and beautiful rare pictures.
Thank you Rinpoche for the sharing. I feel admire in the guru-student between HH Kyabje Zong Rinpoche with Lama Yeshe, and with Rinpoche. Please forgive my ignorance. How can one truely develop the strong Guru devotion ?
Just like the perfect holy master His Holiness Kyabje Zong Rinpoche who loves his students, I am blessed to be love by my perfect holy guru His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche.
Rinpoche watches over me and takes care of me in more ways than I can imagine. Rinpoche truly loves all of us.
Thank you my perfect guru 🙂
Dear Rinpoche
We are fortunate to able get to know and read this article posted by Rinpoche. Some how my heart feel very touching….Thanks
It is extremely fortunate to have one’s lama to help with one’s final passing. Lama Yeshe is extremely devoted, loyal and dedicated to Zong Dorjechang. The current Zong DorjeChang is ready to teach now, how wonderful if the Zong Chocktrul Rinpoche would be going back to FPMT and carrying on the tradition of educating the students of the dharma once more. FPMT started in Kopan due to the hard work of Lama Yeshe and Lama Zopa who built it up with the aid of western students.
Lama Yeshe showed the perfect example of how to take care of his own Guru.
Thank you for sharing this picture with us.
Thank you for sharing this with us Rinpoche. We should never take our Guru’s love for granted.
Thank you, dear Rinpoche for posting this.It makes me cry to see the wonderful Guru Zong Rinpoche. How fortunate I am just to be able to hear his name. You are his worthy son. Many blessings for your activities and your good health xxxx
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this.It was a very touching picture and our guru’s Love is full with compassion .
Gurus are so full of care and love, and this here is a fine example. In my opinion anyone who has a guru no matter where that guru is, he/she will always care for you and be there for you in any need.
These photos struck me when I open this post and bring tears to me. I must be touched by love of a Guru and devotion of a students. These pictures are so powerful, by just seeing them with the words written by Rinpoche.
If a Guru’s love towards his/her students is something “by default”, did I as a student do the same? We might “accidently” or subconsciously thinking our Guru’s love or attention for us is not enough or not there… In fact it’s there, even it’s not seen or shown outwardly. Because they are Gurus, a qualified Guru is just like this. Looking for proof how our Guru loves the students/us is not hard at all, if we really feel with our heart…
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing the post.
With folded hands,
Wah Ying
Guru devotion is a key idea necessary for the flourishing of dharma for the student. The love between a teacher and a student, is undying and unconditional. I admire those who can keep such a perfect samaya with their guru. I rejoice and wish to attain the same.
It is very obvious from the attentiveness and body action of Lama Yeshe that he was totally devoted to his Guru Kyabje Zong Rinpoche. It shows in all the photographs above, right to the very last moment of his life ! How precious his Guru must have been to him !! With this devotion he received the merits to have his Guru perform his last rites and prayers for him before passing on. I totally rejoice for him . The love and care he received from his Guru was undoubtedly clear and real.
This is yet another very precious teaching from my Guru, Tsem Rinpoche. Thank you Rinpoche.
How blissful it is to have a qualified root guru like His Eminence Tsem Tulku Rinpoche in this degenerated time. A time that fulled of pollution & sins. Even I did not personally meet Rinpoche and directly received teaching form Rinpoche, but I believe one day I will have the merit to meet Rinpoche. if I followed Rinpoche advise without any deviation.
This picture is very touching indeed, where a loving compassionate Guru is giving his most devoted student his last rites, prayers and blessings, before Lama Yeshe’s holy mind leaves his body. We pay tribute to Geshe Lama Thubten Yeshe, who has worked so hard to bring the light of Dharma to the West, which led to the development of “The Foundation for the Preservation of Mahayana Traditon”(FPMT). It is said that at present, there are more than one hundred FPMT activities in twenty-one countries Worldwide today! Lama Yeshe’s devine wisdom, insight and compassion radiate from every word of his precious teachings, from whom in turn he had learnt perfectly well from his favourite “Guru of Gurus”, H.H. Kyabje Zong Rinpoche. “We should be devoted to our Teachers, just like Lama Yeshe was”, said our guru Tsem Rinpoche. All must learn and remember this valuable lesson till death for our own good! Om mani padme hung.
When a student loves his Guru 100 percent, like Lama Yeshe loved Kyabje Zong Rinpoche, and goes all the way in following his instructions, it generates a continuous flow of love between the two(as the Guru at all times loves all his students with full and unconditional love). The flow of blessings to the student will spontaneously be generated.
A student should show love for his guru by teaching his students all his Guru’s teaching and transmit all the initiations and oral transmissions he himself had received from him. Thus do the Kyabje Zong Rinpoche’s blessing pass down unremittingly through a pure and devoted ‘vessel’/student, Lama Yeshe, to his students.
We should learn from Lama Yeshe(the perfect student) and love and be devoted to our Perfect Guru, as Lama Yeshe loved and was devoted to his Perfect Guru, Kyabje Zong Rinpoche.
I have seen this photograph many times before and it always leaves me with an extremely strong impression that I will not forget.
To me there are two important things going on here. First, the almighty Kyabje Zong Rinpoche is administering the most powerful “medicine” of all. Second, his “patient” the omnipotent Lama Yeshe, while receiving the “medicine” is also learning how to administer.
You can see the level of concentration in both of them – one the “doctor” or teacher, the other the “patient” or student. Powerful, powerful, picture.
I feel that Rinpoche have the same quality with Kyabje Zong Rinpoche, Rinpoche always giving His love and care without agenda to all Rinpoche students…
May we able to gain more Merits help to succeed all Rinpoche projects as a offering to repay Rinpoche kindness…
What a valuable and touching moments. All gurus are noble as once they received you as their student, they will put you in their heart, no matter where you are. Just like Tsem Rinpoche always keep his students in his mind. It was touching and inspring with the strong guru devotion of Lama Yeshe towards Zong Rinpoche.we need to learn from him to have clean samaya with our Guru.
It was a very touching picture and our guru’s Love is full with compassion …. Love without agenda…. It’s never change.
Tsem Rinpoche give us the precious gift in our life on our mind transformation that save us from suffering and realize on impermanence . Once in our life we met our precious guru, it just like a light shine in a darkest night. A hand hold us and show us the direction when we are blind.
Thanks Rinpoche….
What an epic picture this is showing so many things… a Guru’s ultimate love to his student, a students ultimate devotion to his Guru, the trust between two attained minds, the bond of sacredness and the power of the mind. Even though Lama Yeshe was paralysed, his mind was sharp and clear and he stared at H.H. Zong Rinpoche with devotion. What a blessing to witness these enlightened minds and their compassion.
Lama Yeshe is also a highly attained Lama, yet so humble and shows great devotion to his Lama Kyabje Zong Rinpoche even at the time of his passing. This is something we as students can learn from… his great devotion to His Lama. He obviously did not centre hop, did not boast a list of great Lamas as his Gurus, did not question or once doubted Kyabe Zong Rinpoche, in fact He saw Zong Rinpoche as a living Buddha, and that was made his devotion so pure.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this wonderful picture with us. I think we should not doubt about our guru because he has teach us the holy Dharma that no one in this world has taught us even our own parents cannot teach us something that so profound that will change your live that will give the happiness that we have been looking for, hence our devotion to our guru is the ultimate source of our happiness our guru have give us a meaning in live why we are here.
With Folded hands

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this picture. Although this picture was taken in a hospital but for me, it was like two great minds joined together. Look like Lama Yeshe trying to put all his effort to gaze upon his Guru. Devotion is the key to success. There is no doubt for the devotion that Rinpoche has for his own Root Guru,H.H. Kabje Zong Rinpoche. Hopefully, Rinpoche will have many devoted students too.
It also reminded me of a similar scene whereby Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche flown in to meet H.H. Karmapa (sixteen reincarnation) when H.H. was also in hospital.
Thanks Jacinta for writting exactly what was in my mind.
Love of a Guru to his students is the ultimate love without agenda nor conditions.
As a low level person, I have many short comings due to my ignorance, but the love and compassion from my Root Guru, Tsem Rinpoche, I have managed to be a little better as a human being.
Most of all, my Guru’s love have enabled me to take the ups and downs of my life with better perception and get out of unnecessary self pity at full speed.
I love this picture posted, as it was then that HH Kyabje Zong Rinpoche was giving Lama Yeshe the perfect gift. Beautiful!!!
