Perfect practice equals perfect rebirths

His Holiness the current Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche on the left. His Holiness the current Kyabje Zong Rinpoche on the right.

His Holiness Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche and His Holiness Kyabje Zong Rinpoche had lunch together in their previous lives and now in this life they meet again and have lunch together!!! Nice pictures I wanted to share. The connection is spiritually very strong and ancient between them spanning many lifetimes. They have both returned many times since the time of Lord Buddha incarnating in many forms to benefit sentient beings. Both their incarnations as high beings began from the time of Shakyamuni Buddha when both Trijang and Zong Rinpoches was Buddha’s direct disciples. Here they are again, together, friends and very close. They had a very powerful bond and close relationship throughout their previous incarnations. Very close on many levels.

In their immediate previous incarnation, Zong Rinpoche was a disciple of Trijang Rinpoche. Both from Gaden Shartse Monastery.

Both Trijang Rinpoche and Zong Rinpoche had perfect dharma practices themselves gaining supreme realizations and everything they taught was accurate, flawless and bore mystical results for so many tens of thousands of students who loyally practiced their teachings. Their knowledge of sutra and tantra was without mistake and they had taught many high lamas, teachers, geshes, yogis and masters of this and last century. Majority of masters of the Gelug tradition today in the world are their disciples directly or indirectly. They were highly sought after scholars of the highest caliber as well as hidden yogis culminating as Mahasiddhas (enlightened meditation masters). They perfectly practiced and emulated the King of Dharma and Lord of Three worlds, Je Tsongkapa. From their perfect realizations and dharma practice they can control the timing and occasion of their deaths and return perfectly in new incarnations as and when they please among many other spiritual accomplishments. Their current unmistaken incarnations recognized by H.H. the Dalai Lama and many high beings proves whatever they had practiced, taught and lived in their previous lives was without any fault or error. We can trust, rely and follow the lineage and teachings of these two great masters. The lineage, teachings and practices of their Holinesses Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche and Kyabje Zong Rinpoche are perfect without fault and bereft of error. We can take full refuge in these masters, their teachings and achieve high results as a result of consistently practicing what they taught. They have proven it beyond a shadow of a doubt by their perfect incarnations returning to us. If their teachings were wrong, then how can they return to us in perfect form teaching again? Illogical.

Keeping our samayas clean with each other (students of same teachers), our gurus and with all beings is very important. Having words of honor and integrity will gain great spiritual fruits which will lift us out of our personal sufferings, pains and fears. We all want and deserve happiness and here is our chance by really following our teachers.

We will reincarnate. We will take new bodies. We will die and take rebirth for sure. Where we take rebirth is up to our motivation extending into actions now. We are the authors of where we go and how we experience and react. Every action ‘big’ or small’ will culminate in results and we must be fully aware of that and live our lives and produce actions in awareness of cause and effect without miss. Don’t complain of sufferings when you are the author of them, do something about it. Practice the holy dharma now. Really practice now. Be like Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche and Kyabje Zong Rinpoche!

Tsem Rinpoche

His Holiness Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche (left) who was the tutor of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama for over 30 years lunching with his close disciple and friend His Holiness Kyabje Zong Rinpoche (right). They often dined together as they were very close. They shared so much and visited often.

His Holiness Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche’s current incarnation (left) and His Holiness Kyabje Zong Rinpoche’s current incarnation enthroned in Gaden Shartse Monastery. The sangha are offering the two great incarnate masters long life puja and requests to live long.

Without the guru you would never hear the dharma. Without the dharma there is no practice. Without practice there will be no sangha. Without practice there is no Buddhahood. Without Buddhahood there will be no more Buddhas. Therefore without the Guru there is no Buddha, Dharma and sangha. Be loyal, consistent, genuine and caring with your guru. Be honest and real always. Your guru tells you what you need to hear and not what you want to hear. What a blessing. The guru will be the one who will bestow upon you the most supreme gift of Dharma which leads to enlightenment. This is the most precious being in your life you should never abandon for no reasons.

what a beautiful relationship they have… in many more lifetimes to come, am sure.

  12. Li Kheng on Mar 12, 2014 at 1:28 am

It is beautiful to witness true friendship that spans beyond a lifetime between 2 special beings who have dedicated their lifetimes to benefitting others. This shows that serving others and sincere and consistent practice of pure dharma is the key to a good rebirth.

Although it is not pleasant to see the victim story we write for ourselves, it is empowering to know that we can change the story simply by changing ourselves. We do not need to wait for others to change, take action or even help us. We get to help ourselves and re-write our future through the choices we make today.

I believe strongly that Trijang Rinpoche and Zong Rinpoche will keep returning and remain close for many lifetimes to come in their commitment to benefit sentient beings.

Thanks for Rinpoche’s sharing . This is really a good teaching which we have to remind ourself. It was truth that we are the author of our current life and next life, without mind transform and we still reacted in negative actions, we still have to facing same suffering we have now, we will never go wrong by follow all spiritual teacher’s path.

  14. Uncle Eddie on Mar 6, 2014 at 4:20 pm

In today’s degenerate time, true and pure morality, or ehtical restraint is the source of all happiness. It is said to be the main cause of higher rebirth. It is the foundation upon which all other practices are developed, and is therefore said to be the basis of all realisations and powerful attainments. Nagarjuna encourages the practice of ethics by saying “Ethics, as the earth supports the moving and unmoving, is the foundation of all good qualities, it is said”. But not knowing what is proper proper ethical conduct and what is not, creates the first door to immoral behaviour and its resultant sufferings! As said by Rinpoche, the actual practice of ehtics is, in essence, to avoid giving up “Dharma”. As to the results, it is said that although liberation arises directly from wisdom, wisdom itself depends on concentration, and concentration depends on ethics. All three training are said to be needed to attain liberation. At this point of time, like Rinpoche said, “we can quit in everything, but not Dharma, nothing will bring us truly to the suppreme Goal. We must stop looking for the light, but be the light now, and go all the way like all the Buddhas and Boddhisattvas do!!! Om mani padme hung.

  19. Joy on Mar 5, 2014 at 1:12 am

    Dear Rinpoche,

It is beautiful seeing this TRUTH about incarnations, high Lamas, Mahasiddhas who comes back again and again on this earth to benefit the world, giving us more conviction in our faith, my faith in my Guru and my spiritual path that I have definitely not chosen wrong and am so fortunate to have this karmic opportunity to be close to Rinpoche. I thank Rinpoche for always caring for me like a big brother, father and most of all teacher. I will never ever abandoned Rinpoche and from the bottom of my heart never “quit” believing in Rinpoche and will do my best to keep my samaya with my Guru clean always for this and all future lives. I must have done something right in my past to have this relationship with Rinpoche and I hope to do the same for my next life. Yes Rinpoche you are right, I am most happy “working” and “serving” Rinpoche. I do not see anything else to be more important than that.

Family and friends come and go, and I have my life experiences to attest to that. Sometimes friends and family back stab, cheat and even treat you like “strangers”, use or abuse you… it happens as we hear this all the time in media. Just look a Princess Diana, the lady who had everything… I just saw a movie of her, so sad how she was so attached to having someone loved her back made her so depressed and lonely. I thought if she only had a Guru and Dharma, she would probably not be so sad and could achieve more. In the end, one of the world’s most powerful, loved lady, died in a car crash with a feeling of unloved. Poor thing! So it is a false delusion to think and focus just on the current life/family/friends/relationship/situations etc… and when we focus so much on it, we actually lose life and discover more pain and suffering, most of the time from our own ignorant attachments or permanence.

But a relationship with a Guru that can bring one to great goal of Enlightenment, so seize suffering for oneself and others… I have always wanted to seek that and when I met Rinpoche, I think I found my answer. So thank you dear Lama. I know it is something bigger and higher… it is from past, present and future… I know it does not end here, I know all the many times Rinpoche made us “CHANGE” Rinpoche’s room, re-decorating at 3am was for a GOOD reason of realisation… nothing is permanent… everything can change… and RInpoche sure knows how to make us experience this haha. I loved it, as crazy as it may sound… yes it was all worth it and I am no sucker cause I know I can be a very difficult cookie to crack but somehow with Rinpoche there resonates truth, so even the wrong is right.

So I pray I will always have this luxury of being a close disciple of Rinpoche. Thank you for finding me and bringing me home.

With a lot to learn still, gratitude, and love,
    Joy
P.S. I miss Rinpoche very much and hope to see Rinpoche soon!

    • David Lai on Mar 5, 2014 at 5:21 pm

      Dear Joy,
I am very moved by your answer and devotion to Rinpoche. I really appreciate what you have realized about your spiritual relationship with Rinpoche. The truth and care in your words really reverberates through and I am particularly inspired that you have been through so much with Rinpoche. On the other hand, I particularly agree that you are a tough cookie to crack and don’t fret… I am not any easier cookie to crack either.

We are all tough nuts due to our own egos and warped sense of priorities and attachments. It ain’t easy for Rinpoche and I always think this is because of Rinpoche’s particularly powerful prayer for the most difficult and problem-filled students to come to him. I believe such prayers have brought us, the most difficult of spiritual-seekers to Rinpoche.

On the subject of quitting, I have thought about it countless times just like a flighty bird. But I just couldn’t do it because of the thought of how it would affect others would come to mind and stop me. It is odd but I do care and its sometimes contradictory to what brought me to the dilemma in the first place. Intellectually, I know that there is a future life (and previous lives) but my conviction does not lie in that fact. My conviction in doing Dharma lies in people I care and cherish. This may not work for some people but it has certainly worked for me and it has kept me on track.

In fact, what Rinpoche shared here is very much part of the Lamrim teachings. It is a proof of future lives and to develop conviction on it based on the results of these great lamas. Coincidentally, Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche is the one who wrote the Namdrol Lamrim (Liberation in the Palm of One’s hand) based on Kyabje Pabongka’s teachings. And Kyabje Zong Rinpoche, a great scholar and peerless debater and logician. These are masters who had made the lamrim a feature of their existence and not just a verbal teaching. Incredible.

      • tsemtulku on Mar 6, 2014 at 1:37 am

David, You are indeed a great writer. You are also someone who also has gratitude and cherish those that have loved and cared for you. You look like someone who does not forget about kindness shown to you. That is precious. That is great! Keep that quality because it make you human and real.

Leaving dharma is leaving all causes of happiness for oneself and others. Imagine every single monk leaving Gaden, Sera and Drepung because of difficulties financially, or scolding from teacher or being assigned difficult jobs? Tibetan Buddhism would collapse. Many monks get huge and difficult assignments from their teachers that go on for years such as building a new prayer hall. Or being in charge of the kitchen and cooking for 1,500 monks daily or working in the field for two years, etc.

There were monks who quit and when I talked to them later, they deepy regretted and are ‘stuck’ with their decisions. I have witnessed monks who did not quit and they become the great elite Geshes, teachers, scholars, masters, tutors and siddhas. They are the Lati Rinpoches, Kensur Jampa Yeshes, Gen Nyimas, Gen Jamyangs, Kensur Konchok Tserings, Trijang Rinpoches, Pabongka Rinpoches, Geshe Rabtens, Geshe Ngawang Dhargyes, Geshe Tsultrim Gyeltsens, Domo Geshe Rinpoches, Zong Rinpoches, Gen Gelongs, and hundreds more too numerous to name. They are the backbones, the flesh and meat of Tibetan Buddhism that has spread into the world. They are the people who we look to with tears in our eyes of inspiration and prod us onto enlightenment. We read their writings, study under their feet and pray to them for inspiration and blessings. We enshrine them in thangkas and statues we enjoy collecting for our altars. The funny thing is they were just like you and me in the beginning. They never gave up.

Imagine if Buddha Shakyamuni gave up because his parents/wife protested and he stayed back in the palace and continued to indulge the senses?
Imagine if Buddha gave into Mara at the last moment of his enlightenment. How about all the difficulties Milarepa endured with his very wrathful teacher Marpa? How about Naropa’s trials and tribulations? Compared to them we are just mama’s boys if we quit because we endured very little although we make it big in our spoiled ego centric minds. LOL. How about the great King himself, Lord Tsongkapa and how much he endured to learn and practice and retreat. We should think of them. We should be committed to the path since we came this far ad we should have great guru devotion. Daily we must visualize our guru as Tsongkapa without fail for a few moments clearly, recite Migtseyma and request him for blessings during the visualization. This would be powerful. Go all the way!!! Stop looking for the light, be the light now!

Thank you for your thoughts David and Joy. I was happy to read them.

You can quit everything but not dharma because nothing will bring you truly to a supreme goal. Tell all the Maras in your mind internally and externally to please take a long vacation and don’t come back!!

        Tsem Rinpoche

Thank you so much for sharing these pictures with us, Rinpoche. For the past weeks I have been sickly but when I saw this article in my Facebook, I have realised that ordinary beings like me always worry and put so much concern for our body. In contrast, highly beings like both of the Rinpoches only concerned where to take rebirths, their missions and on how to benefit beings! Although they are highly attained and yet they have to take on the path again and again just to benefit us. Besides, it is not easy especially in controlling death and rebirth. When thinking about this, indirectly it shows the kindness of Rinpoche as well, having taken a rebirth but in a rather difficult journey of life. However, without this extraordinary journey, layman like us will never benefit from Buddha’s teaching at all! What’s more when a Rinpoche that can speak in our language.

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this article with us. Trijiang Rinpoche and Zong Rinpoche are high attained lamas. Many great masters had became their students in the past. It is rejoice to see both of them are here again to continue turn the wheel of dharma. May their teaching can benefit many people again in the world.

Thank you Rinpoche for a teaching on the perfect examples of how one should practice perfectly the awareness of realizing and living by cause and effect.

Both Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche and Kyabje Zong Rinpoche lived many lifetimes of faultless practice and teaching of the Dharma.
With that they have been able to control their rebirths into lives lived in service to the Dharma and to benefit others.

Just as in previous lives, they lived and worked closely together to teach others and to serve and benefit them, so too did they spend the early years of this lifetime together, being recognized and enthroned by HH Dalai Lama and placed in Gaden Monastery.

Wat Rong Khun better known as the White Temple, is a Buddhist temple in Chiang Rai province, Thailand. The gold symbolizes how people focus on worldly desires and money. The white building represents the idea to make merit and to focus on the mind. It is owned by a succesful Thai businessman who opened it to visitors in 1997. Awesome….This temple stands out through the white colour and use of pieces of glass that sparkle in the sun. The white colour signifies the purity of Buddha while the glass symbolizes Buddha’s wisdom. Located 3 hour drive from Chiang Mai built to honour and pay tribute to sacred Buddhist figures. Over time, temples grew in prominence and is one of the famous temples to visit in Thailand. I have visited years back its simple stunning temple which truly love the design and architecture .

Sak Yant, a traditional Thai tattooing practice, involves sacred geometrical and animal designs. Its often accompanied by Pali phrases, and is believed to offer power, protection, charisma, and other benefits to the wearer. Sak Yant tattoos are deeply rooted in Buddhist and spiritual beliefs, with each design and symbol carrying specific meanings and purported powers. Many designs are believed to provide protection against evil spirits, misfortune, and danger. Sak Yant tattoos are traditionally applied by monks or masters using a needle and ink, and the process is often accompanied by chants and blessings. I personally have not seen one yet . Sound interesting.

With her visit hopefully more people will get to know more of our Kechara . She had made a video with and Pastor David Lai all about Buddhist Arts. She openly admitted interested in Buddhist art . Buddhist art pieces have given her home a contemporary edge. Art was important to Buddhist religious life. It was not only part of ritual and worship but also served to transmit religious ideas, and artistic styles between cultures. Do agree with her statement ,…..if you want to change your life, change the way you think, because everything begins with you.”

n their theoretical model, rudeness has this impact on our ability to think because it engenders negative sadness, anger. Researchers have found that common negative behaviours can spread easily and have significant consequences. The best way to avoid rude people is to meet their acts of rudeness with kindness. Exposure to neurotoxins in society is not new. Children today are raised in an environment that is much different from those days. Nowadays they are exposed to behaviours, profane language, hostilities and stress from which we adults, raised a generation ago. Studies have shown that children exposed to serious psychological trauma during childhood are at risk of suffering increased psychiatric disorders. Interesting read.
    Thank you Rinpoche.

Revisit this blog again . Reading comments in this blog Rich people have substantial assets and income, providing a sense of security and freedom from financial worries. Owning high-end cars, designer clothing and everything they want with their money. Rich people often have more time for leisure, hobbies, and travel, allowing them to pursue interests and experiences. They may live in large, luxurious homes and have or apartments, often in desirable locations and having personalized services. The fundamental difference in mindset between the rich and the poor is, the rich have understood a very simple principle money makes money. Rich people see money as an opportunity, while poor people see it as something to be earned. Poor people work hard for their money. It is the heart that makes a man rich. He is rich according to what he is, not according to what he has. Not he who has much is rich, but he who gives much. The primary difference between rich people and poor people is how they handle their wealth. My thought been rich in this world it is not what we take up, but what we give up, that makes us rich.
    Thank you for sharing Rinpoche.

Found this old post …disturbing. Having a name especially a Bar linked to Buddha to be disrespectful towards Buddhism. After much controversy the owner had it removed. The Buddha Bar located in Sabah by a young owner which opened without much thought had many people complaining. Later was forced to have its controversial name changed to ‘Peacock Garden’ and had apologised for the controversial name. As a devout Buddhist, the name ‘Buddha Bar’ which serves alcohol, is disrespectful to the revered Buddha.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

Siberia, considered the heartland of shamanism inhabited by many different ethnic groups, and many of its peoples observe shamanistic. Many of the indigenous communities reclaiming their traditional spiritual and healing practices . Interesting. Siberian shamanism is often called Tengerism, involves various rituals, including drumming, chanting, trance states, and offerings to nature spirits and ancestors. This religious practice has deep roots in Siberia and Central Asia in recent years with roots in the Turkic and Mongolic cultures. Many who have been live in a remote part of Russia, have preserved their shamanic traditions due to their isolation. Many customs of Tengrism are still been practiced where they emphasizes a deep respect for nature and its various spirits, including those of the earth, water, and mountains. They do believe in the continued existence of souls and the importance of honouring their ancestors.
Thank you Rinpoche sharing this ancient religion.

Everyone of us has an unforgettable different experience, a different destination and itineraries. The journey to Shar Gaden Monastery back in 2019, making offerings to the sangha , by the Kecharians hold special moments and memories. They were on behalf of His Eminence the 25th Tsem Rinpoche and Kechara in making an offering to all 650 monks of the monastery. On this fruitful trip the Kecharians had the honour to catch a glimpse of the normally-covered holy statue of Dorje Shugden . Awesome this holy statue of Dorje Shugden was handmade by HH Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche and HH Kyabje Zong Rinpoche. The team was also granted an audience with H E Domo Geshe Chocktrul Rinpoche. Having the opportunity to make offerings to the monks was indeed meritorious. Rejoice to them. Looking at those beautiful pictures paints a thousands words. Thank you Rinpoche and team for this sharing. Merely looking at it is a blessing especially the Holy Statue of Dorje Shugden.

Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly. We can’t let our failures define us. Defeat is not the worst of failures. Not to have tried is the true failure. Success is never permanent, and failure is never final. Failure is another stepping stone to greatness .Sometimes just reminding ourselves of the temporality of failure enables us to forge ahead and stay focus looking forward . Failure isn’t something many of us can handle gracefully. And even though we know it’s a common human condition, figuring out how to stay motivated in the face of failure .
Thank you Rinpoche for this profound teachings.

Finally HH Dalai Lama said we can practice Dorje Shugden. After all these years of deep frustration felt by the Tibetan people. They who lack religious freedom been denied and been exploited in all sectors of society. More than 60 years the Tibetan leadership has cause the sufferings of those in exile who had propitiate Dorje Shugden. Dalai Lama did reiterated although he recommended not worshipping Dorje Shugden as it is a personal choice and freedom. Interesting read.

Working in a private hospital before ,having witnessed many personal tragedies faced by the living and dying patients. Many of these poor people faced their death with fear, with misery and pain before departing this world. With the images of all these in my mind, on occasion feeling sad and grieve at times when those we have cared .But nonetheless we should recognise certain truths. All of us are going to leave this world at one time and leaving those we love. In the teaching of the Buddha, all of us will pass away eventually as a part in the natural process of birth, old-age and death and that we should always keep in mind the impermanence of life. Along the journey of life, we are reminded of our own inevitable ends in waiting and everything is a blip of transience and impermanent. Be responsible, good and positive for ourselves and towards others. This leads to calmness, happiness and an outlook which contributes to a calm and controlled mind at the time of death. We have to remind ourselves the importance of rebirth and taking time to prepare for their own demise before its too late.To cultivate the good karma, our good actions are an excellent way prepare for our death. Having lead a responsible and compassionate life and have no regrets when death approaches enables us to surrender without a struggle. The life that we all cherish and wish to hold on. We are doomed to the endless cycles of life and death, we should learn and practices Dharma teachings .We are given a chance in life and choice to determine our future, to determine where we will go for rebirth. Spend our time on earth wisely before its too late.
Thank you Rinpoche for this great sharing.

The Eerie Enigma of the Mothman are refer to the legendary, humanoid, winged creature as said by the locals as where is was been sighted. Since then it had sparking a blend of fear and fascination among the locals in the Point Pleasant, West Virginia area. This creature became an eerie symbol of fear, tragedy, and fascination for decades to come since the stories are so enduring and pervasive . The first reported encounter in 1966 in West Virginia and to the most recent one in 2024 in Kane, Illinois. In the quiet town of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, the mysterious creature had igniting one of the most puzzling legends in American folklore. Witnesses described this creature standing over seven feet tall, with a wingspan that could rival a small aircraft, glowing red eyes, and a human-like figure. This interesting, could it be real no one knows, there’s something out there for sure.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama is considered the incarnation of the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara and therefore he is an enlightened being. H H Dalai Lama has strongly discouraged the practice of Dorje Shugden worship within Tibetan Buddhism. Dorje Shugden is a prominent deity in the Gelugpa school of Tibetan Buddhism. Many highly attained Lamas have been relying on this Powerful Protector for centuries and even Dalai lama previously do propitiate Dorje Shugden . It cannot be wrong and its wrong to view it as a form of “spirit worship”. All his previous 9 reincarnations practiced with devotion, all of the Dalai Lamas teachers practiced Dorje Shugdan as well . The Tibetan community is torn over this issue and this has been the cause of much suffering and unnecessary prejudice. Dalai Lama is without doubt an enlightened being that surely cannot be tricked by a spirit. Dalai Lama did composed a praise to Dorje Shugden while at Dungkar Monastery . Interesting article , may more people read this and to understand better regarding this controversy. In 2020, the Dalai Lama made a Uturn by saying we can practice Dorje Shugden . Thats’ wonderful and relief for many practitioners.
Thank you Rinpoche for this great sharing.

Butön Rinchen Drup, 11th Abbot of Shalu Monastery, was a 14th-century Sakya master and Tibetan Buddhist leader. Butön Rinchen Drup a Tibetan great scholar and translator, known for systematizing the Tibetan Buddhist canon containing the Indian scriptures based on the spoken words of the Buddha. He also compiled the Tangyur collection that contains the Indian and Tibetan commentaries of these teachings. He wrote a famous text, the History of Buddhism in India and Tibet, which many Tibetan scholars utilize in their study till today. He remains to this day as one of the most important Tibetan historians and Buddhist writers in the history of Buddhism and Tibet. He was not merely a capable administrator but he is remembered to this very day as a prodigious scholar and writer and is Tibet’s most celebrated historian. After his death he strongly influenced the development of esoteric studies and psychic training in Tibet for centuries. Interesting biography of a great scholar.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.
~Tsem Rinpoche

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
