Relationship Compatibility for the Rooster
Which Lunar Animal sign best suits the Rooster, when it comes to relationships?
Relationship compatibility within the Chinese Zodiac mostly takes into account the general characteristics for each animal. However, every individual will place their own unique twist on the basic characteristics. That being said, it’s always fun to read about how well (or not well) you match with your partner!
Read on to learn the compatibility of the Rooster with other Animal Lunar Signs.
ROOSTER PARTNER + RAT PARTNER: 66%
This couple will not go well together. The Rat will be resentful as the Rooster goes about criticising the Rat’s shortcomings. The Rooster’s eccentric character and analytical nature annoys the Rat, who will find the Rooster ungrateful. The Rooster’s materialistic nature will also aggravate the thrifty Rat.
Both parties are controlling and independent in their own right. They like to control both people and each other. However, the Rooster has the tendency to preach, coupled with a bossy and inflexible character. This conflicts with the intelligence of the Rat, who thinks independently and is therefore less likely to follow the Rooster’s words blindly. The Rooster can also make the Rat feel inferior by the Rooster’s cocky and arrogant attitude.
The Rat partner will seek what the Rooster partner cannot provide, which is warmth, affection and tenderness. From the very beginning, the relationship is doomed for failure. The relationship has a better chance of success if the Rooster and Rat are more mature, as they are more likely to be more patient which each other.
ROOSTER PARTNER + OX PARTNER: 86%
The Ox likes the Rooster’s conscientious nature and the Rooster likes the Ox because the Ox is hardworking. Both are analytical and quite methodical. They like things that stimulate their intellect and are competent and organised. As both can handle criticism well, they will be a happy couple.
The similarities between the Ox and Rooster are what will keep them together. They both have the same goals and attitude towards long-term achievements in life, which are usually of a materialistic nature.
The gradual build up of a good relationship will lie in the difference between each other’s personalities. The Ox is reserved, strong and noble, whilst the Rooster is noisy, open and straight-to-the-point. It will be the Rooster’s hardworking and responsible nature that will appeal to the Ox.
The only thing that may pull them apart would be their temptation for material objects. Perhaps one or the other may pick money over… love?
ROOSTER PARTNER + TIGER PARTNER: 55%
This couple may be too self-absorbed to enjoy each other’s company. Both have signs of strong character and prefer to control the situation. They seldom want the same thing. The Tiger dislikes the Rooster’s nagging and critical nature and the Rooster doesn’t like the Tiger to panic unnecessarily. The Rooster is careful with money while the other is generous. The Tiger is outspoken while all the other partner cares about is being productive and following the rules. The Tiger follows instinct and gut feel while the Rooster follows logic. They could end up irritating than complimenting each other.
The Rooster and the Tiger are both driven by the passion and desire that they both possess individually and for one another. When married, they will be looking at a stormy but enthusiastic and spontaneously eventful life together. The Tiger knows how to cheer up the Rooster as long as they are free. With a little bit of diplomacy, the relationship can avoid trouble.
They are both stubborn and may not “sacrifice” or change themselves for the betterment of the relationship. The Rooster being proud and egotistical, conflicts with the fighting nature of the Tiger. The Tiger will not conform to a partner’s criticisms, which are not necessarily constructive, but highly descriptive. The reluctance and unwillingness to change their ways may be a gradual step towards going separate ways.
In a Rooster husband and Tiger wife relationship, he knows that he is not as smart as his mate; however he does have some excellent qualities that should be appreciated. She tends to be overly critical. He is loyal, jealous and controlling, while she needs freedom and will not hesitate to fight for it.
In a Rooster wife and Tiger husband relationship, both will be hotheaded and unwilling to see each other’s point of view. He is often arrogant to her, while she, knowing that she’s not as brilliant may try to be accommodating, which can lead to a horrible cycle of behavior.
ROOSTER PARTNER + RABBIT PARTNER: 55%
The Rooster is too straightforward, perfectionist and efficient to entertain the Rabbit’s playful character. They are both knowledgeable but in a uniquely unusual way. The Rabbit values solitude especially when worried over something; the Rooster on the other hand would not take the Rabbit seriously and instead of support, would make the Rabbit’s faults known to others. The two of them can make life very uncomfortable for each other.
The relationship is highly unlikely to work. Both individuals are poles apart from each other. The Rooster is proud, conceited and considers himself superior to others, whereas the Rabbit is sensitive, artistic and potentially vulnerable.
This conflict will be particularly apparent during arguments.
The Rooster’s lack of skillful means will cause nothing but pain to the Rabbit’s heart. The Rabbit will not stay for long, as the Rooster’s response will be to retreat and remain in silence.
In a Rabbit husband and Rooster wife relationship, he may be pessimistic and depressed. They both have very different views on life. Both are hardworking and realistic, and if they can work through their differences, the relationship may work.
In a Rabbit wife and Rooster husband relationship, he will often criticize her, which she will not take too well especially when it is about her daily tasks.
ROOSTER PARTNER + DRAGON PARTNER: 72%
This relationship can achieve great closeness but not without any challenges. The Rooster who is a perfectionist is prone to be insensitive with remarks but the Dragon has the ability to stay focused and not be affected by it. However, the Rooster must be aware that the Dragon does have its limits. With the Dragon’s initiative and Rooster’s eye for detail and conservatism they make an excellent team.
Both of them will be happier if there is a mutual agreement on which areas each should take control. They are both equally intellectual, but it would be good if they both try not to overshadow one another.
As long as they can ignore the other’s annoying traits, and keep matters fair at all costs, these two can make a perfect match.
ROOSTER PARTNER + SNAKE PARTNER: 90%
This materialistic couple has a strong spiritual and mental affinity for each other. The Rooster is a good housekeeper and the Snake is an efficient provider. Together, they will share the same dreams of influence and material security. The Snake will put up with the Rooster’s continuous rambling but ultimately the Snake will rely on his own wisdom to make decisions. The Rooster is grateful for Snake’s understanding.
The Rooster is vigorous, decisive and moves at a “hastening” speed. The Snake is patient, cool-headed and reflective. The Rooster may feel that he is being held back by the Snake while the Snake may feel he is being rushed into something by the Rooster. The Rooster has the ability to cheer-up the solemn Snake. Both can meet on an intellectual level. This marriage could go either way. Either their individual characteristics will cancel each others’ off and hence find a balance or they will conflict.
ROOSTER PARTNER + HORSE PARTNER: 58%
This is an absurd but sometimes functional arrangement. The Horse is amusing and skillful while the Rooster is serious and jealous. The Horse has the personality to dash off when bored leaving it up to the Rooster to clear up the mess, an attitude that is not tolerable by the Rooster. The Horse is too carefree to be annoyed by the Rooster’s outspoken and faultfinding attitude. The flamboyant nature of the Horse will not want to be tied down by the simple life the Rooster has planned. The Rooster wants to follow a straight road but the Horse wants to follow an adventurous path that is changeable and has no fixed plans.
One cannot understand the rationale of the other and when listening to conversations between them it will be clear that they are not on the same wave length. This marriage may only work if they are attracted to opposite personalities and find a special interest between each other.
ROOSTER PARTNER + SHEEP PARTNER: 42%
The kind-hearted and considerate Sheep will make a sincere effort at anything, while the Rooster tends to analyze and control other people’s lives. The Rooster’s optimistic, energetic and fearless attitude could intimidate the sensitive Sheep, who is pessimistic by nature. The Sheep finds the Rooster too straightforward, while the Rooster finds it difficult to be with someone so emotional and self-indulgent. These vast differences may prevent them from enduring each other’s characteristics easily.
The Rooster will need to know how to tame their sharp tongue so as to not hurt the sensitive Sheep. Despite what the Rooster thinks, it is an advantage to be around the sensitive Sheep. They are able to sense what others are feeling, and at times thinking. They are the perfect ear to share your worries with and a solid shoulder to cry on.
The combination of these two signs has a very low tolerance level for one another. It is only if they can find enjoyment with one another’s company, can they be a suitable pair.
ROOSTER PARTNER + MONKEY PARTNER: 75%
This is a rather rough one as both their commanding personalities may clash more than them being able to collaborate as both want recognition and praise. He cannot withstand her love for argument while she finds him too cocky to even bother about her, let alone abide by her advice. The Monkey likes to get his work done with no fuss. He possesses abilities of resourcefulness and distinctiveness. The Rooster lady may be efficient but fussy at the same time. She has the natural inclination to point out his flaws. Both will not enjoy this roller coaster ride unless they can let go of their ego while taking the middle path.
The only thing that will keep this marriage together will be from having common goals. This will create the want and desire to work with one another. Apart from that, both Animal signs will constantly conflict.
They both have the gift of speech, one having a more sarcastic tone than the other. The Rooster can talk in a structured and argumentative manner, whereas the Monkey may talk in a manner which will perhaps provoke the Rooster.
ROOSTER PARTNER + ROOSTER PARTNER: 33%
The compatibility between the both of them will be because, in essence, they are one and the same!
This will allow them to easily become acquainted, be friends and companions. However, the two strong personalities may clash. Both Roosters are loud-spoken and argumentative. When they’re unhappy about something, they don’t believe in beating around the bush. It requires a lot of time, which is something the Rooster would rather not spare! The friction between these two will gradually increase as they continue to provoke one another with their opinions and overly-passionate dialogue.
They are both able to speak intensely about what they believe in – however, what happens if their views are on either extremes? On the other hand, although both are responsible characters, both interests are the same and thus both likes will naturally be the same. This similarity may not necessarily be a good thing as when 2 people like the same thing… only one can truly own it.
There will be a lot of drama between one another until some much needed peace is gotten. Peace = Break-up?
ROOSTER PARTNER + DOG PARTNER: 63%
Both of these signs have the same set of good qualities: patience, restraint, self-assurance and integrity. They are also both outspoken characters that may not be a good trait as they both have sharp tongues too. If the Rooster nags, the Dog will bite. In this way, hurting each other may be the only result.
Their short-comings will be ignored by each other, but without recognition of their personal shortcomings, how would they improve? If the marriage fails, these short-comings will be the cause of it. In addition, one of them must be able to stand down when the other is spitting fire. This may not be the most ideal match for either sign who, on the surface, appear to have many shared traits.
Both partners are normally diplomatic and will work to see eye to eye but in this union, their more offensive traits are emphasised. Too overly critical with one another, both the Dog and Rooster will find themselves easily irritated by the other’s shortcomings and since neither will back down from a challenge, conflicts are possible. In the ideal situation, the easy-going Dog will be pleasant as long as the Rooster does not interfere too much. The Rooster must keep its normally righteous opinions to itself, however sincere they may be – how rigidly the Rooster sticks to its plans will bother the Dog, who will see the Rooster as being unaccepting of the way he is, and out to change him.
ROOSTER PARTNER + PIG PARTNER: 81%
Being so diplomatic and peace-loving, the Pig would rather skim the surface of an issue rather than risk offending a person. Conversely, the Rooster has no such qualms about making direct accusations, and is a busybody without any regard for others’ feelings. The perfectionist Rooster will be facing the open-minded, intelligent Pig. However, the Pig’s overly-trusting ways will lead the wily Rooster to offer protection – being so naïve, the Pig’s trust may otherwise lead to it being exploited.
Provided there is understanding and willingness to compromise, this could prove a workable pairing of signs. Like any relationship, conflicts are to be expected but given a mutual respect for one another’s personalities, they can be kept to a minimum. Compared to the Rooster, the Pig is governed by his emotions to a greater degree. This could pose a problem for the Rooster, who is too argumentative to love the Pig blindly. On a more positive note, the analytical aspect of the Rooster may be a boon for the trusting Pig, whose accommodating nature is in danger of being exploited. Likewise, the effects of the Rooster’s critical mind could be subdued by the Pig’s diplomacy.

Dear Alma Olaveria,
According to yours and your husband’s birthdays, both of you are rooster.
Having said that, there are ways to work towards a successful relationship. You can read more here: Ingredients for a successful relationship https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/students-friends/ingredients-for-a-successful-relationship.html
Thank you for this page. I loved the fact that you included the chance of success beside each potential relationship. That was a great touch. The thing that seems to be lacking is how each partner’s element interacts in combination with the signs. Would you be willing to include this on the page?
Thank you once again for creating this page! I look forward to receiving your response.
