The Snake personality
Dear friends,
Since this is the year of the snake, I thought this snippet on snake year and personality from Sun would help you and if anything entertain. Sun newspaper has high circulation and very interesting articles I enjoy.
See how you fare in the year of the snake and do you know anyone born in this sign and would like to understand them better? For more in-depth understanding of the snake personality and their relationships with others, please go here.
Tsem Rinpoche
POLITICAL wizard, philosopher, wily financier or theologian – the Snake person is the deepest thinker of the Chinese zodiac. Those born in the Year of the Snake are complex, unusually intense and very deep. Graceful and soft spoken, these people love good books, music, food and the theatre. They will gravitate toward all the finer things in life.
Being the enigma of the cycle, the Snake person can either be deeply religious or totally hedonistic. The Snake people are secretive by nature – they treasure their privacy and will have many secrets locked up within them.
They also have insatiable lust for money and power, and they usually lead dangerous lives full of intrigue and excitement. The snake has always been regarded as the supernatural creature by the Chinese.
In fact, many of the world’s most powerful heroes and most beautiful women were born in the Year of the Snake. Among the famous Snake people are Abraham Lincoln, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Mao Zedong, Mahatma Gandhi, John F. Kennedy, Brook Shields, Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Onassis.
The Male Snake
Most male Snakes are powerful. Their power combined with their intelligence and charm allow them to succeed in any field they dedicate themselves to. Attactive and irresistable, the Snake man is usually very influential on the people around him. Snake men do not communicate well with others and he relies only on his own judgment. He does not like to indulge in useless small talk or frivolities.
The lucky Snake man can be quite generous with money, but he is also well-known for being ruthless when he wants to attain an important objective. This merciless man will not hesitate to eliminate anyone who stands in his way. Being one of the most tenacious signs, it is never safe for you to draw a line and predict that this is how far the Snake man will go. In relationships, the Snake man is romantic and passionate but also very possessive.
The Female Snake
Born in the beauty of the cycle, the Snake lady is the femme fatale. She is not only beautiful, but her serene, cool and classic beauty will mesmerise those around her.
Sophisticated, confident and collected, the Snake woman loves luxury. She disdains costume jewellery and instead goes for real gems. Her taste and style are undeniable. As a shrewd thinker, she gives great advice and solutions and knows just how to help you get out of sticky situations.
Born with a sixth sense, her mysterious psychic feelings are usually right. Determined and thoughtful, the Snake woman takes failure personally and will not forget how others mistreat her. Her love for money and power is overbearing. No matter how powerful or rich her man is, she will be his biggest asset after they are married.
The Snake Child
The Snake child is a complex personality. Intelligent and alert, he has a quiet nature and is inclined to be particular. This hardworking child will be all too aware of his charms and likely to be the teacher’s pet.
Being the worrying type, he will take a pensive outlook on life, usually sulky, temperamental and vindictive when things do not go his way. Although he may be secretive and brooding by nature, he displays a strong sense of discipline. He is attentive and careful, and knows how to keep out of trouble.
He is also interested in solving problems life throws at him. Realistic, unrelenting and persistent, he sticks to a task until he masters or completes it. This little Snake is destined for fame and fortune.

quite interesting and true..
my zodic sign is snake and i find myself with many of the characteristics stated.i do believe what rinpoche has been stated.
I’m also a Wood Snake (1965) just like Rinpoche and find it amazing/amusing that each time I read about the Wood Snake’s character, find it fits me like a tee. All the paragraphs in the article relate to me, teacher’s pet and all, and I almost went to school with Brooke Shields (Princeton) got accepted but went to another school which gave me more scholarship $$. Have been delving in philosophy and theology all my life and recently my enlarged family had an interesting “chance” meeting with Riponche at a Coffee Bean. Since then, have been tuning into this website often, learning and absorbing and practicing. Hope that this Wood Snake will get a chance to meet the other Wood Snake more often and have a snake-to-snake chat! P.S. I once had a “chance” encounter with Madonna in NY in front of the building where John Lennon lived and got shot! How about that!
Interesting! My son is a snake but only half of what is written above is true. Hehe… He is no where near being quiet. I believe in the end, the above are just some of the basic info we can understand about a Snake zodiac person. Instead of just reading, we should get to know the person better by communicating.
I just read through the characteristics of the Snake personality and saw how accurate the descriptions are.
The 2 most important men in my life are Rinpoche and my husband, and both are born in the year of the Snake , though one cycle different.
Rinpoche : philosopher, theologian, deeply religious, deepest thinker of the Chinese Zodiac
My husband : wily financier, totally hedonistic, secretive and very possessive. ( I am really not trying to say anything negative about my husband, i am just merely quoting the characteristics as listed above )
This is a really accurate and interesting description of the snake personality. It is fun too , to see how relevant the description fits!!!
This personality analysis of the Snake is accurate in that Rinpoche manifests all the positive aspects. And i am not being biased! It is interesting that it says Rinpoche can be very religious or hedonistic. We certainly know which Rinpoche manifested. Rinpoche is a deep thinker, philosophical, powerful, generous, tenacious, intelligent and charming yet private. And i agree with Sean that Rinpoche is definitely a fantastic communicator, able to connect with people from different backgrounds and levels in order to guide and benefit them.
I think many of us have positive characteristics or negative – and it is our choice which direction we want to go in, especially in order to rehabituate ourselves so that we can develop better qualities in future. I always remember Rinpoche asking what is the difference between Rinpoche and us. The difference is that Rinpoche created the causes to be Rinpoche in his previous lives and we did not, but the beauty is that we now have the opportunity to create the causes.
The Snake Man’s personality really is like Rinpoche’s personality. Rinpoche is powerful and influencal. However, there is one flaw in the above statement when relating to Rinpoche, “Snake men do not communicate well with others and he relies only on his own judgment.” I do not find Rinpoche lacking communication skills but rather Rinpoche is the best when it comes to communication as Rinpoche gives precise instructions without fail. Also, Rinpoche does not always rely on his own judgement. Rinpoche allows ideas from everyone to help in any goals for the Dharma.
I am a Monkey but my ascending sign is a snake. That means 25% of my character is suppose to be snake-like. I don’t feel that way but I guess the only thing snake-like about me is the fact that I am very much into Dharma. Anyway, but I do know that Tsem Rinpoche is a snake though and he is very much the spiritual end of the snake spectrum.
Tsem Rinpoche could have dived into the hedonistic deep end, if he had decided to be an actor many years ago in LA. Fortunate for all of us, his imprints was very strong and he fought all urges to make it in LA and instead, he became a monk. He has not looked back since and I must say that all the qualities of the snake is present in Rinpoche if you know him like the way I know Rinpoche. However, Rinpoche is very much the result of his deep spiritual inclination and he would be what I would call a true Tulku because everything arising from Rinpoche seems to have arisen from his deep spiritual inclinations, practice or his devotion to his Lamas.
From the thousands of hours of being Rinpoche and listening to him talk, joke and explain, I would envision his spiritual qualities to be as deep as the deepest ocean and his care and compassion for others are like the highest heavens. I can’t think of another person in my life that has that depth and breadth of care and wisdom for others. This may seem flowery and obscure to you but it is not for me because it is arisen from observation.
Astrology has always been a part of my growing up days as my mother used to read it and explained to us the 12 zodiac signs and also tells me and my sister what are our characteristics. To a certain extend I think most Chinese families would believe it Chinese astrology for it must ring some truth. It is interesting to know your signs as it tells you a bit about your personality, your compatibility and why there are some people you get along with perfectly and some you don’t.
This ancient science we use is so popular and pervasive these days that it has become such a norm and that some people’s lives literally revolves around it. However, ever since I joined the Dharma I realise that even though it says the year would be bad for you, it is refreshing to know you do have a choice and you can change it. And also if you do have Dharma, nothing really matters because you are in control of your destiny really. I read astrology now more like a general information as not everything is set and stone but yes it is interesting to know what the year has installed for you so you can plan better and improve in areas you feel is your weak points.
The snake zodiac sign has such an interesting personality! Lol my nephew’s zodiac sign is snake and some of the traits is true! My nephew has a VERY complex personality. Persistent one too. Hehe I can learn more about other zodiac signs here which was written by Rinpoche some time back here:

Haha, I am a snake but I don’t find myself with many of the characteristics stated. Maybe my zodiac star play a strong hand. Anyway, its interesting and sure panders to my ego.
Sofi,
25 percent of your character is determined by your ascending sign and this sign is determined by the hour you are born. You can google to check it out further.

Dear Niky,
Perhaps you can check out other calculators we have on the website:
a) Double Zodiac “EAST MEETS WEST” where the combination of Sun sign (Western sign) and Chinese sign will give you further insight.
b) RISING SIGN
In Chinese zodiac, the hour of birth also plays an important role. The sign related to the hour of birth is called the Rising Sign in Chinese zodiac, and the individual will experience the effect of the Rising Sign in various degrees.
