H.H. Kyabje Zong Rinpoche Explains Dorje Shugden Initiation and Benefits (With English Subtitles)
Dear everyone... This is a good condensed talk I gave on Guru Yoga of Tsongkapa. This is the one you should share with others when they are interested in a not too lengthy explanation. It is the perfect practice for everyone who wants simplicity yet effective blessings. You can share this with more people, it will be good.

"We need another and wiser and perhaps a more mythical concept of animals.... We patronize them for their incompleteness, for their tragic fate of having taken form so far below ourselves. And therein we err, and greatly err. For the animal shall not be measured by man. In a world older and more complex than ours they moved finished and complete, gifted with extensions of the senses we have lost or never attained, living by voices we shall never hear. They are not brethren, they are not underlings; they are other nations, caught with ourselves in the net of life and time, fellow prisoners of the splendour and travail of the earth."

“If one does the recitation of the Lama Tsongkhapa guru yoga prayer for even one month using one of the visualizations for great or clear or quick wisdom, one will definitely see development of that wisdom. It is proved by experience. There is no doubt that by doing the Lama Tsongkhapa guru yoga practice one can meet Lama Tsongkhapa’s teachings from life to life. And furthermore, it gives one the opportunity to be born in the pure realm of Lama Tsongkhapa, Tushita, whenever death happens.”

That was a very special year as I met His Holiness Kyabje Zong Rinpoche and received innumerable precious teachings and empowerments from Him at Thubten Dhargye Ling Centre in Los Angeles, California. "His Holiness Zong Rinpoche stressed the need to continue to practice even when we come up against obstacles, and that we should continually review our progress. It is amazing how much this dog could benefit people. The training he received and the talent he had, saved many lives. Such a powerful message that this dog did so much for others that he was buried with full honours and the ceremony was attended by all.
Thank you for sharing this inspiring message.
Zanjeer was a Labrador Retriever who served as a detection dog with the Mumbai Police in Maharashtra state of India.
This courageous heroic dog’s has extraordinary detection skills Who saved thousands of lives in the 1993 Mumbai blasts. Zanjeer was one of those sniffer dogs that have risked their lives to save others. He was part of Mumbai Police team and was the best bomb detector in the squad.
Thats amazing. This heroic dog died in 2000 of bone cancer, was given a full honours and buried during a ceremony attended by many.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing.
Dogs are famously known as men’s best friends, and sometimes hero as they willing to sacrifice themselves to protect their owner and the owner’s family members. Salute to this hero! May he rest in peace and quickly be reborn in human realm, in a conducive environment to hear and practice the Dharma. Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this wonderful story.
Zanjeer may be a dog, but he is no ordinary dog. He is a hero and its good news to know that he received the recognition that he deserved and was buried with full honours!
May Zanjeer take a better rebirth!
When I saw the picture I thought why was the Zanjeer given a human funeral ceremony. A human funeral for a dog does say that he deserves the respect as a human because of his deeds. At the same time most of us view animals as lower than us and does not deserve respect or we automatically doesn’t respect them as much as we respect humans. And from disrespect we act out the disrespect by using, abusing them for our own ends for food, labour, and entertainment.
Zanjeer is not an ordinary dog, he is truly a hero dog. He saved so many lives and i am glad that he was buried with full honors. This showed that the police force really appreciated Zanjeer’s service and he deserved this respectful funeral. May he will take a good rebirth. OM Mani Padme Hung.
Zanjeer, the hero dog, do rightly deserved a full police burial honour ceremony when he died of cancer in 2000 (as informed), when he had saved thousands of lives during the Mumbai serial blasts in 1993, by detecting more than 3,329kgs of explosives and many other live amunitions and detonations. Supporters of animal rights believe that animals have an inherent worth – a value completely seperate from their usefulness to humans. We believe that every creature with a will to live has a right to live free from pain and sufferings. Only prejudice allows us to deny others the rights that we expect to have for ourselves! If we wouldn’t eat a dog, why eat a pig? Dogs and pigs have the same capacity to feel pain, but it is prejudice based on species that allow us to think one animal as a companion and the other as dinner. Such prejudice is morally unacceptable! So when you are wearing leather, going to circuses and zoos, pls take vital steps to cut thoughtless cruelty to animals, and please educate others around you too…….on behalf of the animals I thank you all, for every life saved.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this touching story,Zanjeer’s story really inspired me and touch my heart !! He is true HERO,he saved many lives and glad to see that Zanjeer was buried with full honours.May this story inspire more people to stop harm animals and be vegetarian.
Om mani padme hum….May Zanjeer reborn as human and can learning dharma in future live !!
Amazing indeed that Zanjeer, only a canine, could save thousands of lives by detecting explosives, detonators, hand grenades and ammunition in the 1993 serial blasts in Mumbai. If Zanjeer can do this much, a human should be able to do much much more.
He truly deserved the honor shown to him when he died. He was buried with full honors. May he have purified his negative karma with his bone cancer, and may he go to a good rebirth as a human.
Thank you for the sharing Rinpoche.I am glad that Zanjeer got the recognition and the respect that he deserved as the community which he have saved did not forget his deed even though he was not human. It is very obvious to see that the feeling of compassion and gratitude transcend all forms of lives. We should be appreciative to anyone or any being who have assisted us in anyway without any agenda in mind.
Thank you Zanjeer, may you have a good rebirth to learn the dharma.
Zanjeer , you are super hero , saved thousands of lives and show a very good example to human . May you have a good rebirth and learning Dharma in next life . Thank you Rinpoche to share this touching story and may this story inspire others to stop trading dogs meat , eat dogs meat and love dogs much much 🙂
Amazing !! Zanjeer indeed a hero which have save so many lives.Glad that the India government is recognized his hard work and contribution. May his have a good rebirth..
This post is so amazing!!
It’s so wonderful that a dog can save thousands of life. I have never heard of any dogs that rescued thousands of people. Dogs can sometimes help people in various ways. It is really surprising that this little dog, Zanjeer can save so many lifes by detecting the explosives.
Zanjeer deserved to be recognized as the Hero of India.
Yes he is a true hero!!!! Tribute to Zanjeer, he will always remembered and loved by all of the ppl he had saved! May he RIP and always be blessed by the 3 jewels. Om Mani Padme Hung.
Dear Zanjeer, thank you for your most incredible contribution to the society.. Because of you, those explosives were detected! Good job, boy!
May you be reborn as human and be near the Dharma in your future lives.
Rest well, Zanjeer. Om Mani Padme Hum..
Thank you for sharing, Rinpoche.
Another touching example of how dogs are men’s best friend. Zanjeer showed us again how extraordinary animals can be and why we should never ill treat animals for they have great potential just like us humans.
I love reading stories about animals that make a difference… there are so many animals (especially dogs) that have saved human lives countless of times… in fact, some dogs a breed and trained since puppy to assist people with physical disability so that they can move around more independently. These are one of the reason’s why I love dogs so much… However, this is the first time I’ve heard a single dog saving so many lives… Zanjeer truly is extraordinary.
I hope that many people will gain the awareness that being cruel to animals a terrible deed… May cruelty against animals, that happens everyday all across the world cease and stop.
Zanjeer is such a wonderful dog, managed to save thousands of lives before he dies. Dog are really man’s best friend, it will do anything the owner asks to. Sometimes I still do not understand why would people hurt the dogs/animals. They did nothing wrong to deserve to be treated so badly…
May Zanjeer take a good rebirth and may he learn Dharma in his next life. He died as a hero, people will always remember him.
Thank You for sharing Rinpoche.
Love, beatrix.
This is a good awareness to raise about animals who do so much for humans, who created the problems in the first place. If not for people who created the explosives and guns, brave dogs like these don’t have to risk their lives. There are so many animals out there who also help clear landmines, planted by humans, so that other humans don’t lose their limbs. What kind of world do we live in. I am glad that Zanjeer did not lose his life while in service of humans, though he suffered from cancer. I hope some of his negative karma is cleared by his illness. We should have compassion and appreciation for all animals – especially those who serve human beings, who often do not deserve it.
Awwwww Zanjeer is truly truly a hero! This is a clear indication that animals are beings that can benefit others especially dogs. They definitely can feel and they definitely can appreciate kindness, compassion and they are very very loyal. Sometimes even more loyal than humans really.
I am happy to see that Zanjeer was buried with full honours and glad to know that people have gratitude! So do we still believe that animals are below us… if anything they are probably equal and sometimes better when we think about how humans treat animals.
Dear Rinpoche,
Wow!! Though Zanjeer is just a dog he has managed to save thousands and thousands of lives in Mumbai, India.
It is just wonderful how dogs may just be animals but yet a lot of dogs like Zanjeer, Hachiko and many other dogs have not just saved one live but hundreds to thousands of lifes.
Though we regard animals as animals I believe that we should not take for granted that they are lower than us because most of the time animals turn out to be smarter ones as well as the hero.
Once again in the history of animals saving people’s life and soon… another story is added.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this short yet very touching article on Zanjeer.
Love
Jutika
A true hero, He saved so many lives! It is amazing. We always underestimate all the other sentient beings. Heroes come in all shapes, sizes, colors and breeds. I am glad to know that he was buried with full honors during a ceremony attended by all. Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this post.
For me, Zanjeer is a true national hero who have saved many lives potentially taken by explosives. This is a clear example on how everyone can actually benefit the society including animals. It is heart warming to see Zanjeer’s contribution is being recognised here. Animals for me are supposed to be treated correctly and cared for unlike what we see these days more and more news of animals being tortured or killed for human pleasures.
It is great to see that India is honouring their sniffer dog with nice funeral. The dog has contributed in saving so many lives. Without him many people would have lost their lives.
This is so different from Malaysia which recently caused a stir in the animal lovers community when they put down the older sniffer dogs because they claim that the cost of maintaining them is too high. They could have put them up for adoption but did not. It’s a pity that the dogs have to live a shorter life after serving the nation. Such a disgrace.
Deeply respect to Zanjeer, wish him have a good rebirth to become a human to continue his previous life works. World do need more kind Humans and Animals.

“Policemen who die a martyr’s death get accolades, but canine members go unnoticed,” Mohite told the newspaper.
How true and sad that the heroic deeds of our furry friends are rarely highlighted.
Zanjeer saved thousands of lives and he deserved the full honours funeral.
This is Amazing and this dog really fully respect of all people 🙂
It is so touching me that he saved a lot of people away from explosive. What a Hero dog Zanjeer..
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this post.
WOW. What an amazing life Zanjeer lived and it is most touching to see how the people he served with and the community showed gratitude to Zanjeer. I like this news very much!
If a dog can be so beneficial to society, I think as humans we can too. We don’t have to directly defuse bombs and save lives to benefit others, we can do it with our own practice of non-harming and expanding our awareness of others. That’s why Buddhism is so powerful because we can all change our perspective and change our situations around no matter how difficult or impossible it may seem at the time. With faith and prayer, we can do almost anything. Thank you Zanjeev for this most precious of examples.
Om Mani Padme Hung!
Its so beautiful how Zanjeer got such a respectable funeral. Its show how much everyone really appreciated and loved him. Dogs are truly a man’s best friend, capable of compassion, companionship, loyalty, fun and friendship. More people should be treating dogs and animals like this because they too, do deserve the equal rights as human beings do. A clear example is Zanjeer. Helping save so many lives, all dogs can do the same. I hope people would stop buying animals from petshops but rather adopt those that are homelss. Thank you for sharing this story Rinpoche. I hope Rinpoche is well.
I first come across this reporting through FB and found it to be very beautiful. Instead of just chucking the dead body aside, the Indian officers honoured Zanjeer’s works with very nice ceremony. It is sad that smart dog like this was afflicted with cancer and had to pass away so soon, but I am glad that he received a nice ceremony.
Zanjeer have saved so many precious lives, I truly wish that Zanjeer can take rebirth as a capable officer in his next life and continue to do the many kind works that he had done in this life time.
Although a dog but Zanjeer is marvelous! He saved so many lives! I am glad to know that after all his services, they gave him a respected full honors funeral. Below is what was written of him.
May Zanjeer always be Blessed.
The dog died of bone cancer in 2000, the Pune Mirror reported. He was eight years old.
In the photo above, a senior police officer lays a wreath of flowers on Zanjeer as he was buried with full police honors at a widely-attended ceremony.
Mumbai’s police dog squad has been operational since December 1959, the Times of India reported. It began with just three Doberman Pinschers, who were used for tracking criminals.
A labor union leader and dog lover Dilip Mohite told Mid-Day that Zanjeer’s extraordinary detection skills deserved recognition.
“Policemen who die a martyr’s death get accolades, but canine members go unnoticed,” Mohite told the newspaper.
