The Launch of EAT HEALTHY, DAILY book
Kechara Media & Publications (KMP) has officially launched their first cookbook: Eat Healthy, Daily.
This book has 21 traditional Chinese vegetarian recipes which, if eaten 3-4 times a week, can improve your health and slowly heal your body.
Written by Dr Jiang, whom I have blogged about before, these 21 recipes are designed to fit our lifestyle. We have many random ailments today, and these problems are a result of our modern lifestyle e.g. poor eating habits and consuming too much processed food… like french fries!
According to Dr Jiang, vegetables are natural medicines and the recipes in this book are able to address those ailments.
In an event organized by KMP, both the press and friends came together to celebrate the launch of the book!
The launch included a food tasting session where Kechara Oasis prepared a few dishes from the recipe book, a viewing of the promo video from the “Veg & The City” series and a talk by nutritionist Yu Jin Wong!! Wow, what a full session…
Yu Jin Wong is a qualified nutritionist. He gave a talk on the health benefits of vegetarianism. Everyone truly enjoyed his speech as he occasionally added a few jokes in to illustrate how we really don’t think-outside-the-box!
The jokes were to prove how most of us are stuck thinking in certain ways, and this includes our opinion on vegetarianism. Yu Jin says that it does not have to be boring and repetitive.
He also gave many interesting facts, such as how Malaysia is the fattest nation in South-East Asia! I guess all that Malaysian mamak and yumcha doesn’t help… hehe
Another interesting fact given was about how almost half of our national population suffers from at least one major disease, e.g. diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer, or high cholesterol!
People found his talk very informative and the crowd was seen to be listening intently, particularly when Yu Jin talked about what is necessary for a balanced vegetarian diet, how to get started on a vegetarian diet, reasons why people choose to be vegetarian and the benefits.
As the owner of his own company, Wellness Simplified, Yu Jin really knows his stuff. He does NOT believe in being strict with your diet, but to enjoy and be smart with it.
After his talk, Li Kim (CEO of KMP) presented Yu Jin with a gift of appreciation.
Do take a look at the photos below. It was a heart-warming and beneficial book launch. Everyone who attended went away with a way to live a better life… by eating better food!
I have also scanned in some photos of the cookbook, including some sample recipes.
A video will also soon be available for everyone to view the cook book launch. In the meantime, Kechara InMotion has produced the first video of a 30 episode series called “Veg & The City”! It is very well filmed and our own Kechara actors are so natural!
It’s nice to see so many Kechara departments working together. It’s a good example of how people should never feel that they don’t know what part they can play in charities or non-profit organizations – every person has a role.

Vegetables Can Be Fun
A new vegetarian cookbook is encouraging Malaysians to shed the pounds and be kind to their health the delicious way, writes Sarah Rees

Did you know that 40% of Malaysians are overweight or obese? That’s nearly half the population! And, even more depressingly, according to statistics, Malaysia is the fattest country in Asia.
Unfortunately, people are often sceptical about adopting a healthy diet – “healthy eating is boring and bland,” they say. Not anymore!
Kechara Media and Publications (KMP)’s new cookbook, Eat Healthy, Daily, offers 21 simple recipes that are all not only good for you, but tasty too.
I was lucky enough to attend the launch and get my hands on one of the first copies, and a quick flick through immediately impressed: big, tempting pictures and clear instructions – plus, the recipes are in both Mandarin and English. Each dish also offers titbits of health information about what the various ingredients do for your body: who would’ve thought that tomatoes are thirst quenchers that nourish the stomach or that bean curd can help cool you down? Power to the vegetables!
And yes, you’ve guessed it: these recipes are all vegetarian, but meat-eaters should not panic and hide just yet. At the end of the launch, we were invited to taste a range of dishes from the book and, take it from a carnivore, they were delicious! The crunchy sweet potato chunks were sinfully sweet and satisfying, while the multi-bean and barley detox porridge was wholesome and comforting – the perfect meal after a long day.
All the recipes were provided by Dr Jiang Zhong, a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner who has incorporated his knowledge of herbal medicine into the choices to ensure that these dishes do wonders for your body.
Even nutritionist Wong Yu Jin, who spoke at the book launch, was singing the dishes’ praises. “There are so many benefits to a vegetarian diet,” he explained. “It can help lower cholesterol, lower blood sugar, reduce the risk of heart disease; in fact, the most intelligent man in the world was a vegetarian: Einstein!”
“We are not trying to convert people,” reassured KMP CEO Phng Li Kim. “This book is just aimed at anyone who fancies giving vegetables a try. But since turning vegetarian, I have really noticed the benefits to my health. And vegetarian (food) doesn’t just mean salads!”
Whether you want to spurn meat and dedicate yourself to vegetables, or simply looking for a way to lose a bit of weight and make yourself healthier, this is a great book to help you.
At RM20 for 21 recipes, it’s less than a ringgit per dish and your body will thank you for it! These lovely books can be picked up at MPH bookstores or direct from KMP. Get one and make sure you are not in that 40%!

This is a great vegetarian cook book. The recipes are easy to follow and the ingredients are also easily available in our local stores. The book even provides the benefits and side effects of a particular vegetable/ingredient so that people with e.g. gout will stay away from recipes that contains beans.
The beauty of a vegetarian diet besides its health benefits is the avoidance of killing another being for our sustenance.

I believe what Dr Jiang says. Eating healthy and losing weight naturally is not counting calories and restricting what you love to eat. It’s about knowing the right thing to eat. We actually need to eat certain food to burn fats. We need certain food to increase out metabolic rate and we need certain food for healing. This way we can still enjoy the food we like and reap the benefits. How great is that?
I went for the launch and tasted the food prepared by KO and it taste like any yummy tasty good. Most people would think that healthy food is not tasty. This wasn’t the case. I bought the book and tried out the recipe. It was really easy too.
Just made the cabbage dish just now. It actually tasted quite good. I’m surprised how simple and fast it was to make. I could really get used to this. I wonder if there’s more recipes coming out soon.
I am so happy to see this vegetarian book and I seriously I prefer vegetables then meat especial when I have to consume meat, the images of how the animals were killed flashes back in my mind and making it hard to sallow. Friends who nurses thinks that I not fit to donate blood but I prefer vegetables then meat but I can say I donate blood platelets once a month. That shows that I am health. I would like to purchase this book and gave them aways as Christmas Gift so that they can do away with the turkey and the ham…. he he he
Anyone can cook from this book titled ‘Eat healthy, daily’ as the recipes are made very simple, and nutritious. It is also good to know that there is a glossary section that explains on the healing properties of each vegetable by Dr Jiang.
Wong Yu Jin’s talk was very information and educational about how we can have a balance vegetarian diet. He also showed us some celebrities who are vegetarians including the historic figure, Adolf Hitler, can you believe it? Good news! Wong Yu Jin will be giving a health talk on Aug 13 at Kechara Lounge. Do join us!
Plants are producers in the food chain, they are the first stop to utilize the sun energy to manufacture food for the earth. Hence if we consume plants or vegetables directly in the food chain, we will get the optimum benefits of nutrients versus than cosuming animals who feed on plants, as when as go down the food chain, the nutrients retained at each level of the food chain become less and less.
That is to say, some people believe we must eat a piece of steak to obtain sufficient iron from our body, but why can’t we just take in vegetables such as spinach, morel mushroom, fresh parsely, backed potatoes, sun dried tomatoes, dried apricots, just to name a few, to obtain the iron necessary for our body?
The more we study about the benefits of eating vegetables (all the health benefits of healing our bodily ailments), the more I find being vegetarian is the way to go……
Thank you KMP and Dr Jiang for doing a wonderful job for coming up with a book that has 21 great receipes with different vegetables, I will have 21 days of less headache of thinking what to cook!
Congratulations! This is wonderful. I can’t wait to give some recipes a try. Thank you.
