Kechara Oasis goes for a movie!
I often send Kechara staff and volunteers to the movies or an outing to appreciate all of them. I really care about all the people working for Kechara.
Last week, all 33 staff from Kechara Oasis (KO) went to the HBO cinema to catch the movie, The Dragon Lady. I thought that it would be nice for them to take a break from all of their hard work!
Amongst the group was Irene Lim (Director of Kechara Oasis), Jeffrey Gan (Marketing Manager of Kechara Oasis) and Eddie Teoh (Restaurant Manager of Kechara Oasis Viva Home).
All 33 received a pack of pop corn and a drink each too. And for some of them, this was the first time that they got to hang out together…
Bryan Ho from Kechara Care helped to make the necessary arrangements. He said that everyone had a very good time and bonded more as friends. This is good to know as, every 2 months, they will be going for a movie together as a department!
It’s always good to appreciate other people’s hard work. Many departments in Kechara are successful because of every individual within it. They put in their effort and pull their weight to make things work. With Kechara Oasis opening their 2nd restaurant… they must be doing something right!
While they were waiting for the movie to start, Bryan thought that he should interview a few of them. He said that it might be good for my blog readers to know a little more about the people behind Kechara Oasis. What a good idea!
Below is an interview of 3 people in KO: Chef Choi, Jordan Yap and Xu Xiang Ling. Do take a read and get to know some of the people behind this successful restaurant…
Tsem Rinpoche
1. Chef Choi
is a 51 year old from Perak. Having lived in KL for 20 years, he has spent all of his time here working within the culinary industry. He hasn’t got much experience cooking with vegetables only… especially without any MSG!!
Although it is difficult, he said that he has learnt a lot from KO’s Head Chef, Chef Au.
Being with KO for a month now, he feels excited to be part of KO as he finds Kechara very impressive. He likes how everything is for benefiting others and he wants to be part of it too.
Chef Choi says that KO is a very comfortable environment for him to work in… he feels like he’s cooking in his own kitchen! He describes Irene as being very caring and feels that not much has to be said between the two of them as there is an underlying understanding.
He feels very good to not kill any animals for food. It also reminds him about what he has done in the past. He says that KO provides a clean and healthy environment for him and he’s very interested in coming up with new recipes in the future.
In 5 years time, he sees himself learning more dharma while working, changing to be better and sharing Dharma with others.
2. Jordan Yap
is a 21 year old guy who joined Kechara Oasis right after graduating from high school! He has been with the original team since KO (in Jaya One) opened.
He says that the new Kechara Oasis restaurant at Viva Home is another new chapter in his life! His new role will be as a kitchen assistant. While he helps out the current chefs, KO will be providing a space for him to learn and work at the same time.
His dream is to become the best vegetarian chef in Malaysia! Irene has agreed to sponsor a culinary course for him to become a qualified chef.
He says that he is very lucky to meet Irene. The experiences that she has provided is immense. He has followed Chef Au and Irene to Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Genting and Taiwan to explore different cultures and Asian fusion vegetarian cuisine.
He sees the vegetarian market growing bigger globally and says that vegetarian food may be main stream within the culinary industry. It is healthy, delicious and interesting.
He describes Chef Au and Irene as being generous and kind. He appreciates them very much and says that they teach and guide him all the way.
3. Xu Xiang Ling
is an 18 year old girl. She is currently the youngest worker in KO and is employed as a restaurant host. She says that she loves working in KO because she loves animals a lot. She feels a deep sense of pity when she sees animals being killed in restaurants that she has worked at before.
For her, being vegetarian is good for the skin, health and it practices good ethics.
She really likes how her bosses and staff are like a tight-knit family. They sometimes go shopping and have dinners together.
In 5 years time, she would like to be promoted to floor manager. To do so, she will be taking up an English language course to improve her fluency in that language.
She told Bryan that the relationship between her and colleagues became closer after the movie.

Dear Rinpoche,
Thank you for your kindness in taking care of us. You had always showed generosity and kindness to us as an example.of how we should treat the people around us. Despite of Rinpoche’s hectic schedule , you still can remember our needs and give us the support we needed. Generosity is a trait that we need to cultivate.
Humbly,
Chris
Rinpoche not only treat staff to movies, but, volunteers too. Rinpoche is always very mindful in caring the staff and volunteers in KEchara. As a volunteer before, i felt Rinpoche care. Thank you Rinpoche.
I went to Kechara Oasis, not only for the good food, the ambience also i can feel harmony around K.O. Reading about the staff’s comments about Irene, i think she is a very caring person. She not only care for the staff current welfare but their future. As a person in Dharma, she not only practice as a vegetarian but “melt” Dharma in her by showing her care to the REstaurant workers.
The movie outing YEAH !! This is one of the way that Rinpoche take care of someone. Rinpoche always appreciate someone’s hard work, and Rinpoche understand most of the foreign workers are here to earn money for their family in their hometown.
A lot of them will save almost 80 % from their salary and send the money back to their family, basically they will have not much money left for themselves.
Rinpoche hope that they can still feel at home even-though they are hundred miles away from home, and we should show our care to others.
Thanks
congratulations and welcome to our kechara family..
Rinpoche always take a good care of people surround him. Kechara Oasis staff are work very hard and they deserve it. Its very inspire of Irene who know nothing about restaurant but can manage it and now expand to the 2nd branch.. i proud of her.
