Shanghai Nite
On 28 December 2012, Kechara Oasis (KO) organized an event called, “Shanghai Nite”. Everyone got the chance to join in the event and to dress up in their best Chinese traditional costume.
The guests enjoyed EIGHTEEN types of delicious vegetarian, Shanghainese food! They were specially created for the event: Braised Peanut, Sweet & Sour Zucchini,Braised Sweet Tofu, Braised Shanghai Gem, Braised Shanghai, Jewel Soy Mushroom, Dumpling, Shanghai Chic, Pickled Jelly Tomatoes, Seaweed Roll, Five Spiced Tofu, Shanghai Golden Duck, Scallop, Shanghai Mince Roll, Crispy Rice Biscuit, Sweet & Sour Fish, Shanghai Bun and Shanghai Pancake.
To entertain the guests, there was a live 4-piece band called Regal Orchestra which played old Shanghainese songs. According to Irene, Director of KO, the guests danced and sang along to the music. How fun…
After Regal Orchestra played, guests were eligible to win a prize in KO’s 3-round Lucky Draw! There was also a Best Dressed competition… and those who participated had to do a catwalk, and the audience selected the winner!
I heard from those who went that the event was filled with fun and laughter. I’m glad to see such fun events being held at Kechara Oasis. Who says you can’t hang fun in a vegetarian restaurant?
More and more people are coming to Kechara’s Vegetarian restaurant said to be the biggest in Malaysia! Many are booking their events at Kechara! I am so glad awareness of vegetarianism is spreading!

All 18 dishes looks so delicious. I wish i was there. It would have been an awesome opportunity to wear my Chinese Garb. LOL. I find the land image very captivating as it looks like it is smoking.
The food in Kechara Oasis is always extremely yummy and healthy. If anyone wants good vegetarian food, go to Kechara Oasis. Nothing can beat their expertise in terms of flavouring and cooking.. Oh, I feel hungry for Kechara Oasis food just by typing this comment. Hehe
It’s a fun night and I am glad to see all the participants are enjoy themselves in the nice food, nice ambiance, soothing singing performances, and fun games.
I believe good deeds can be fun too like what Rinpoche said. I hope more people find vegetarianism is not boring and can be very excited too.
Kechara Oasis is a well-known vegetarian restaurant . All the dishes are delicious and creative,is good for having lunch or dinner with family or friend . Feed back from our Kechara Paradise customers that they are like to having vegetarian meal at KO because of delicious meal and also comfortable place 🙂
This is a really happening night of the year…Everyone include our crews is having fun on the progaramme.
Personally, i do impress for the 18 dishes on a table, that I never see in before..so creative and interesting… and of course the food is soooooooo good, We keep refill for the food, and can see all guests busy with their foos, pity waiter..hehe…And there all do enjoy the show of the night, especially creative catwalk, that they need to choose 2 funny props and walk with them, and really really funny.
Thank you KO for their effort to promote vegetarian and have fun at the same time. And you will not surprise there is a lot of kind and lovely people always support KO and Kechara as well, Thank you so much for all your kind support. May their wish come true and get blessing from 3 jewels.
We look forward to KO next event…hehe
Vegetarian food will not be boring anymore with this type of yummy food nicely presented and served by Kechara Oasis. With its nice ambiance it is not a surprise that it is a sought after venue for private functions and weddings.
HOW FUN!!! Such a shame that I couldn’t go… I would’ve loved to have dressed up to the theme and enjoy the delicious food at KO!
Every time I see a picture of KO’s dishes, I salivate and get all hungry. I love how their food does not have any artificial preservatives, flavouring and MSG. It’s good ol’ healthy food!
Not many people would believe that good food can be healthy food. It’s a very difficult preconception to break; that greasy food is delicious, and not even vegetarian, but healthy food isn’t any good.
If you have that doubt in you, take my word – try Kechara Oasis’ food ONCE.
Just try, no harm 🙂 You can thank me later with a KO food voucher 😛
Looks like I missed a night of fun and great food! I totally love Kechara Oasis deco and food! It is the most modern vegetarian restaurant I have ever been to! I attended their buffet lunch/dinner and it was fantastic! So many choices so many attended as well just like Shanghai Nite! It would be great if Kechara Oasis organise more events like these and introduce the modern and healthy way of having vegetarian food!
Wow! I went to one of the earlier charity buffets by Kechara Oasis last year and it wasn’t as fun as this one. I am not really familiar with Shanghainese food but I am familiar with the Kechara Oasis quality of food. I am sure they would have been scrumptious and yummy. Anyway, from the pictures, I can tell that they were certainly delectable.
It’s really nice that we have Kechara Oasis under our umbrella and they certainly bring tremendous benefit to our organisation. And all these came because of Irene, one of Rinpoche’s oldest and most devoted students. She had single-handedly built Kechara Oasis in Jaya One and now Kechara Oasis in Viva Mall as well. I think she did a great job and because of her devotion, she was able to create this fantastic restaurants where people can dine and enjoy guilt-free vegetarian dining.
The dishes and presentations all look yummy. Am sure they taste yummy too. Kechara Oasis is not just an ordinary vegetarian restaurant. KO has the caliber to arrange theme functions and the decor and set-up are always beautifully set up according to the theme. Vegetarian lifestyle need not be boring as proven by Kechara Oasis.
It is nice to see people having fun and delicious vegetarian dishes at Kechara Oasis! Who says vegetarian is never fun and always dull and it is only for old people?
Kechara Oasis put in a lot of effortin making vegetarian dishes/food delicious and attractive to those who are going to be a vegetarian or those who are already a vegetarian. This encourages many to become a vegetarian. KO even held events to make vegetarianism fun for people. This kinda match with the vegetarian trend that more young people are considerate to go vegetarian, not just because religioun purposes, but also healthy life style and compassionate eating style.
Kechara Oasis has indeed come a long way… It goes to show that a vegetarian restaurant can be Hip, Trendy, Cool and Fun too… AND no animal life was sacrificed in the process.
The food choices are getting more varied and Irene always has these healthier options that she does research on and implements in the menu.
Everyone I have introduced KO to has loved it and some of them cannot believe some of the dishes are even vegetarian as it taste so good!
The 18 vegetarian dishes that was presented exclusively on Shanghai Nite was a beautiful and delicious dishes. You can’t imagine that the dishes were a vegetarian dish, no preservative and no MSG! And yet it was so delicious and nutritious.
The guest that present on Shanghai nite mostly are the patrons that support Kechara Oasis for long term. From the photos , we can even notice that they took part in the game and dance . To most of the patrons, Kechara Oasis is like another HOME for them, especially when come to everyday dine in.
Wow! How i just love all the 18 dishes displayed on the table. The food displayed was not only yummy, jaw dropping it was also vegetarian as well!
What Kechara Oasis is doing is very good because it not only promotes vegetarianism but also at the same time enjoy fine dining as well. Hopefully what Kechara Oasis is doing will inspire lots and lots of people to become a full time vegetarian.
The food in Kechara Oasis is just way to good and yummy and it is a must to go if people want to have fine dining at the same time be vegetarian too.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing.
Love
Jutika
Hahaha Jutika… you are right! The food sure looks yummy and they look like meat dishes too… who would have known it is not. That is why these days to be vegetarian especially here in Malaysia is so so easy! We cannot give excuses not to be any more unless we wanna remain selfish and indirect cause killing.
It is nice to see our very own Kechara Oasis flourishing and becoming creative in different events in promoting vegetarianism. What a fun night it must have been… having a good time, dressing up, looking good, and supporting a good cause. Who says you can’t have fun in a Buddhist organisation and who says vegetarian is boring 🙂
It is really very tempting to see all 18 dishes displaced on a table. How irresistible!!
Foods in KO are certainly good. I have been there a few times, and they are really very nice.
It is nice that through KO we are spreading the understanding that vegetarian meals can also be very nice, and perhaps even nicer than those meaty meals. Another plus point is the health factor, that we are not inviting harmful ingredients into our bodies that will do much harm to us on long term basis.
If you have not been to Kechara Oasis, do try it. You will be pleasantly surprised!
