Kechara Oasis wins a HAPA Award!
Kechara Oasis meets HAPA’s requirements in terms of service, restaurant ambiance and food quality…hence they won the award. It’s not surprise that Kechara Oasis is in the Top 10 as not only would you not realize that their food has no meat in it, but there is no salt, MSG or gluten to make up for the lack of “flavour”!
Kechara Oasis makes vegetarian..or any type of cuisine..healthy, delicious, exciting and available to everyone. They provide a beautiful place where people of different walks of life can come together to enjoy a different culinary experience, which subtly promotes non-animal abuse…why not eat good food in a nice place and save a few animals lives?

Although comparatively young next to the stalwarts of the Kuala Lumpur culinary scene, Kechara Oasis has received positive review after positive review. Their latest accolade is grabbing a spot in the Top 10 for Best Casual Dining Restaurant at the Hospitality Asia Platinum Awards 2010-2012 (HAPA)!
Established in 2002, the HAPA Awards is held on an annual basis, to support and recognise excellence within Asia’s evolving hospitality industry. Known as the Oscars of Hospitality, Malaysia and Singapore takes turn to host the event. This year it was in Malaysia! Held at Royale Chulan (which is at the heart of Kuala Lumpur city!), the proceeds from the tables bought went to Taman Megah’s Handicapped & Disabled Children’s Home.
The HAPA Awards committee prides itself on recognizing the crème de la crème of the hospitality industry at all levels. They recognize different establishments within the following categories: Department Awards, Restaurant Awards, Establishment Awards, Personalities Awards, Recognition Awards, Major Awards and Special Recognition & Major Awards.
Under Restaurant Awards, there are 7 different awards that were given out. Kechara Oasis came under HAPA Best Casual Dining Restaurants. They won as part of the Top 10!
Being only 2 years old, Kechara Oasis competed against well-established named restaurants in an intensive and potentially cut-throat industry. In a country where majority of the population are meat-eaters, Kechara Oasis proved that hanging out and being spotted at a vegetarian restaurant is both chic..and that the food WILL satisfy your taste buds!
Kechara Oasis has a wide range of vegetarian dishes on their menu. According to many Kecharians who eat there, the crowd favorite is ‘butter mushroom’ which is a crispy yummy deep-fried oyster mushroom with thick butter sauce drizzled generously over the top. They have plenty of signature and special recipes and dishes that resident chef, Chef Au, created.
HAPA surprised Ms. Irene Lim (Liaison and director of KO) when they nominated Kechara Oasis for the award earlier this year. She was notified via email, and expressed that she was happy just to be nominated…little did she know that Kechara Oasis would be in the Top 10, in Malaysia!
HAPA states that their goal for giving out such prestigious awards is that they are recognizing restaurants by, “Focusing on the people who strive ceaselessly to give guests a hospitality experience bar none, this (the award night) signature soiree has become a much-anticipated event for hoteliers as well as businesses who work with the hospitality industry..”. They are also “Dedicated to recognizing and rewarding people and establishments who have shown drive, dedication and passion for the hospitality industry..”.

Dear Rinpoche, It’s amazing how Kechara Oasis grow so fast. I loved the food at Kechara Oasis, they are super delicious and you won’t feel thirsty after eating the food. I’m a very picky person when it comes to food and I’m also a vegetarian so that makes me a picky vegetarian. Haha Lol! I recommend customers to try butter mushroom, fried rice and the curry fish (It’s vegetarian). The desserts are fabulously tasty. I feel like eating at Kechara Oasis right now.
First of all Congratulations Kechara Oasis on winning a HAPA Award!!!
Wow!!! Nice to know that our very own Kechara Oasis is getting more and more recognition and awards from HAPA and so on.
It shows that a restaurent does not have to serve high class and expensive meats to garner such awards.
It would be good for more and more people to become vegetarian and thus slowing down the slaughtering of meat as well in future for a meat free world as well as the freedom for all animals to live.
As usual nothing beats a good meal of Kechara Oasis’s food.
Here are a few dishes I love:
1. Petai Fried Rice
2. Fried Momo’s
3. Tsem Rinpoche Hotpot
Basically the Hotpot is the newest and at the same time the best.
When dining in Kechara Oasis one can not only enjoy casual dining but also affordable dining.
I heard they have a weekday lunch set that come with a main dish as well as a drink for only RM9.90…. Not bad indeed!
WOW! Congratulations! Its nice to know that there is an award winning vegetarian restaurant in Malaysia. And i think that KO really deserves this award. They have the most amazing vegetarian foods. And im sure that at this event the food that they served made people agree that they did indeed deserve these awards.
Thanks Guru for this post!
My family love KO food especially my
daughter she love KO food. I m very happy
for them keep it up the good job.
CONGRATULATIONS to Kechara Oasis, Irene, Chef Au, Jeffrey and the entire KO team for winning the Top 10 award for Best Casual Dining Restaurant at the Hospitality Asia Platinum Awards 2010-2012 (HAPA. Their vegetarian food is simply the best – innovative, delicious and healthy food! The ambience is good with friendly service.
It is heartening to know that they are catering to more and more functions these days. I hope Kechara Oasis will open up more outlets so that more people will get a chance to savour their food.
We look forward to tasting more new and delicious recipes from Chef Au.
Congratulations to Irene, Chef Au, Jeffrey and the hardworking KO team.
Kechara Oasis not only provides good food, good service and ambiance, it also promotes vegetarianism.
Wow, Congratulations to Irene, Chef Au, Jeffrey and the team at KO. The food at Kechara Oasis is excellent and comes with great service. KO has differentiated itself from other vegetarian restaurants with its environment, menu and food presentations. Even the canapes served and presented during Gompa opening was a very nice surprise. KO has certainly distinguished itself.
Congratulations to Kechara Oasis on their winning the HAPA awards. This will be able to make Kechara Oasis become famous. When KO becomes famous, many people would be going there and when those people eat, they are indirectly supporting a concept of compassion to animals as they are reducing the amount of animals that are being needed to be taken to slaughter to satisfy our taste buds. Kechara Oasis is the best vegetarian restaurant I have ever been to in my whole life. Their food is very exotic and tasty.
CONGRATULATIONS! It’s wonderful of Kechara Oasis to help people nourish not only the body, but also nurture the heart (of compassion); by abstaining from meat. Any plans for expansion?
I LOVEEE KO’s food and especially the food catered during the grand opening of Kechara House New Gompa. Unfortunately, I didn’t have much but tasted a few canapes and it was really good. I can see why KO was given this award and I really believe that the award is due to the hard work of Ms Irene Lim, Liaison and director of KO along with her sidekick, Jeffery, the marketeer and all-in-one wonder who works extremely hard to support Irene.
Kudos to them and I heard there are plans for future expansion… I am really excited about that and salute their dedication and hard work for making Kechara’s name more popular and synonymous with good clean wholesome food that does not harm any animals in the making. It is amazing that they are making Rinpoche’s very own hopes and dreams a reality.
