Kechara Paradise Chinese New Year Dinner!
On Sunday night, Kechara Paradise (KP) had their annual Chinese New Year dinner for their staff of 16! Datuk May Phng and Dato’ Ruby Khong, who were invited as guests, joined them at Kechara Oasis for what would turn out to be a night of fun!
The event was held in the private room at Kechara Oasis (KO), which was decorated with typical Chinese New Year decorations. Starting off with the traditional Yee Sang, they continued eating healthy, delicious KO food all the way past half 9! …Don’t worry there was no raw salmon in the Yee Sang, it’s all vegetarian at KO! Hehe
After dinner, prizes were given out to those who had won the monthly staff incentive program. The winners, May Woo, Eric Siow and Lee Char Jazz, had the highest evaluation points. These points are assessed and given by their colleagues every month. The evaluation is based on the individuals’ hard work, friendliness, care and initiative…amongst other things.
The prizes (RM300 vouchers which are redeemable for KP outlets items!) were handed out to 3 people who had won for the months of September, October, November and December… and May Woo won twice!! Congratulations May, Eric and Jazz!!
Henry Ooi (Liaison of Kechara Paradise and Director of Kechara Paradise Outlets) then gave out ‘ang paus’ (they are red packets with some money in it; it is customary to give and receive them during Chinese New Year) to each staff member. This was Henry’s way of showing his appreciation towards the work that everyone at KP has done so far. It is also to encourage them to keep it up! This is done every year during KP’s annual Chinese New Year dinner…How fun!!
Albert (Outlet Manager of KP 1U) and Wan (Outlet Manager of KP SS2) were the organizers this year, and they really made it an exciting and festive event!
After all the prizes were given, the KP staff were split up into 4 teams. Team A (Girlie, Adrian and Junior), Team B (Chia, Giok Leng and Pamela), Team C (Davin, Jazz and Darren) and Team D (May Woo, Jack, Eric and Mitra) played simple games like Hangman, Charades (‘Act and Answer’) and Spot the Difference. They’re very easy games…but a whole lot of fun when you have an interesting crowd!! Hehe
‘Act and Answer’ was particularly fun as, during the game one person in the team would have to act out a funny and awkward action….for example, one of them was to act out Flying Vajrayogini!! In this case, the person would have to lift one leg up and pretend that they’re flying…I sure hope it’s not Albert!
Points were awarded for correct answers. At the end of the night however, there was a tie between Team A and B….but being Kecharians it was decided that both teams did equally well and should therefore both win!
The winning prize was 2 movie tickets per winner, for any movie of their choice. This way they can take their friend or spouse along with them. What a caring and thoughtful prize..
According to Wan, everyone laughed really hard throughout the entire night…so much so that some of them even lost their voice!! Hehe
This year, the KP Chinese New Year dinner was held a little earlier. In previous years they had been held a week before the 1st day of Chinese New Year, however starting from tomorrow (till the 1st of February) Kechara Paradise will be busy doing a KP roadshow at One Utama!
In the spirit of Chinese New Year, the items on sale at the roadshow are wealth vases and roos. It is very auspicious to invite home a wealth vase, especially for the Chinese who are starting their new year. Roos are very very good for protection, especially for young professionals who, when working in new or different environments, would be prone to being a victim of back-stabbing, making enemies..etc.
Do pop by to say ‘Hi’ to the KP staff at 1 Utama…they will be on the 2nd floor, right next to the escalator that goes directly up to the Golden Screen Cinemas! It is a 300 sq metre roadshow space, with lots of appropriate items for the New Year!
The photos below are of the fun KP dinner at Kechara Oasis…..do check out the last photo…it’s a must… hehe

Staff chatting and catching up before the food is served!
Getting ready to stir the Yee Sang. This is a traditional, must-have delight for Chinese New year! It is an auspicious dish, eaten at the beginning of the meal…
Here they all are…using their chopsticks to stir it all up! According to Chinese belief, the higher you bring up the different ingredients of the Yee Sang (to mix it), the more prosperous your year will be!
Staff of the month winners! Congratulations!!
