Kechara Forest Retreat open for visit
Once a month for all to come and relax
Beautiful Bentong now has better development opportunities as many religious and overseas organisations specially prefer to purchase the agriculture lands in Bentong to build their religious activities centres and resorts that expedite the development of tourism in Bentong.
Located at Chamang Road, Bentong, the Kechara Forest Retreat (KFR) – central of the Kechara Buddhist Organisation – has completed the building of its Phase 1 project. KFR will be opened for the public to visit on every second Saturday of the month, starting from April.
KFR was conceptualised and built by His Eminence Tsem Tulku Rinpoche. Since the beginning of 2012, he spent a few months searching for suitable lands, and finally decided to purchase this 35-acre land owned by five different owners in April of the same year. Then he planned for the building of Kechara Forest Retreat. After the completion of various administrative works, many pujas were conducted to bless this land.
Pastor Chia of KFR mentioned during the interview that KFR is a place for people to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, to rest and relax, as well as to be re-energised.
Meditation Camp Next Month
Pastor Chia said the building of KFR has been divided into a few phases. After approximately three years, Phase 1 has been completed. Apart from the regular onsite activities, they will also be opened once a month for the public, to attract more people to visit and to find their inner pure land.
Pastor Chia said tourists can now visit Wisdom Hall, where a 13-ft Buddha Shakyamuni (the founder of Buddhism) statue and Malaysia’s largest Dorje Shugden statue are placed. There is also a souvenir shop there. Outside Wisdom Hall, there is a 8-ft Lama Tsongkhapa (the founder of the Gelugpa) statue and a Vajrayogini stupa.
According to Pastor Chia, “The aviary and the herbs garden are also open for visit. There is a proper and structural designed aviary with greens, Buddha statues, heating light, proper lighting, toys and huge feeding platform. The facilities are considered quite complete.”
KFR will also conduct meditation camps that fall on May 16-17, May 30-31, June 27-28.
If you are interested to visit KFR, you can contact their person-in-charge for necessary arrangements to be made. Tel: +6012 389 2239, +6012 206 1790 or +603 7803 3908. Or email them at retreat@kechara.com.
Kechara Organisation started from a small shop lot
Kechara Buddhist Organisation was established in 2000. When it first started, it was just a small shop lot with a group of spiritual practitioners who wished for change in order to bring peace to the neighbourhood.
Kechara started as a small Buddhist outlet but to date, it has developed into many departments, including a soup kitchen, publishing house, Himalayan arts studio, production house and vegetarian restaurants.
The Kechara Conscious Community is formed by people from all walks of life from around the world.
In Kechara, the Buddhadharma is being actualised in a series of daily activities and services. Through joining the Kechara activities, not only can you bring out your own potential and transform your life, you will also discover that the ability to love, to be happy and to obtain calmness is unlimited.
The actual scene resembles the postcard from Mongolian monk
Around the time Tsem Rinpoche started conceptualizing the Kechara Forest Retreat, a postcard arrived from a Mongolian monk, featuring the image of a monk meditating under a lone tree, set against a backdrop of mountains. During the search for a suitable location for this project, a piece of land was found that featured the exact same view as was depicted in the postcard, with a lone mango tree against a background of lush green hills.
When Tsem Rinpoche and his assistants came to survey the land, they were greeted by a light drizzle – an auspicious sign in Tibetan Buddhism – further confirming that this was indeed THE right place for the Kechara Forest Retreat to come into fruition.
Today, that lone mango tree is fondly called the “Iconic Tree” and a stone Shakyamuni Buddha was placed there to commemorate this significant omen and as a reminder of where it all began.
