This is a touching story. This is something private and intimate, but I wanted to share this because it will benefit the readers. This is my purpose. To benefit others in any way. These are the messages between myself and Pastor Yek Yee. I wanted to share with you her compassion, hard work and dedication. She humbles and inspires me. Pastor Yek Yee works very hard. She is always available to be of service to the public 24 hours a day. She is not required to be available 24 hours, but because she cares she is available. When she took on her Buddhist Pastor’s vows, she told me she will go all the way with it. She is true to her Pastor’s vows. She is true to her word. Some people have criticized her due to jealousy or competitiveness in the past, but she never argued back but just kept working for others. Now she is very respected, loved and sought after. She gets better with time for sure. This has been the opinion of many.
Buddhist Pastor Yek Yee blesses babies, baptizes, animal liberation, rituals, prayers, does funerals, consoles the sick, listen to people’s relationship problems and inspires the many people around her to be more and do more for others. I will pass her more lineages in the future so she can pass to others. Yek Yee came from a journalistic background and from the time I met her till now she has just moved forward to be better and challenged herself to victory again and again. She is a inspiration to so many. She is a comfort to so many also. She is someone who does not blame others for problems or difficulties. No tantrums or flippant mind. She is firm and steady. She is a loyal friend, true spiritual person and lives by the code of compassion.
I wish Mr. Thai Hung a powerful and productive rebirth. I am sharing this beautiful story because I respect the courage of Mr. Thai Hung and family also. I can only imagine what Mr. Thai Hung felt when he received the news of one week left. I wish him the best and I am so pleased that he was able to find peace just before he passed by the kindness of Pastor Yek Yee of Kechara. Thank you Yek Yee so much.
Read her wonderful account below of what happened recently. When she messaged me updates of her work as usual, I was very touched. I told her to write it all down and I will blog it. Please read and share your thoughts. Share it with others. Give your prayers for Mr. Thai Hung and family. Give your words of love and encouragement to Pastor Yek Yee who surrenders herself to the holy dharma and service to others.
Sincerely,
Tsem Rinpoche

by Pastor Kok Yek Yee of Kechara
One afternoon last week, I received a phone call from an active volunteer of Kechara House, Mr. Hee. He sounded anxious and panicky, and told me that his elder brother Mr. Hee Thai Hung was hospitalized. The doctor pronounced that he only had 1 week to live (due to terminal disease) and advised the family members to be prepared for his affairs after passing away.
Mr. Hee said his brother Thai Hung totally could not accept the truth and reacted very negatively, because Thai Hung had been going for full body checkups every year and the results were always OK and he didn’t have any health problems either.
A few days ago, he went to hospital for a checkup because he felt uncomfortable. He felt like his stomach was bloated and then the doctor pronounced that he only had 1 week to live! The tragic news affected Thai Hung greatly.
Mr. Hee said, “I’d like to help my brother the Buddhist way, so that he can accumulate some merit and eliminate negative karma”. But Mr. Hee was in a dilemma because he wished very much to have Kechara pastors go to the hospital and pray for his brother, but was worried that his brother might reject this.
Mr. Hee told me that his brother is very strong-headed, like an ironman. In his brother’s dictionary, there was no word for “defeat”, therefore he would not easily listen to the advice of someone younger or in a lower position than him. On top of that, Mr. Hee and his brother both had stubborn streaks, so they were not very close with each other, and this worried Mr. Hee even more.
I thought about the situation for a while, and told Mr. Hee that I would not mind if I were to be rejected by his brother, because Tsem Rinpoche has always said that when we help others, we would sometimes be rejected but their future lives are more important than our own embarrassment of being rejected. Even if I were to be rejected, at least I tried.
Thai Hung was a high-level executive in a corporation in Malaysia and Mr. Hee told me that Thai Hung managed more than a few hundred employees. Thai Hung was very strict and disciplined towards himself as well his subordinates.
One Sunday afternoon, another volunteer Frederick Law and myself met Mr. Hee at Gleneagles Hospital. When we went into the ward that Thai Hung’s was in, it was full of people and I did not know anyone of them. At that time Mr. Hee went downstairs to receive his other brother who had come from Melaka to visit, while I took a quick glance at Thai Hung on the bed. He did not react at all and had a cold expression, and that started to worry me. So Frederick and I left the room to wait for Mr. Hee to come up.
After a while, Mr. Hee returned and he told me that we could do prayers in the room! So the three of us went into the room. In the beginning it was hard for me to open my mouth, so I just asked in a simple manner “How are you feeling? Still OK?” Thai Hung replied, “My stomach feels bloated, very uncomfortable…” Then I asked “Can we recite prayers? What prayer do you know?” Thai Hung replied directly “I don’t know! OK, you can do prayers.” So the three of us started the preliminaries, followed by the Praise to Lama Tsongkhapa (Migtsema), followed by the mantras of Setrap, Medicine Buddha, Chenrezig’s OM MANI PADME HUM, and Guru’s mantra. It lasted more than half an hour.
Throughout the session, Thai Hung was seen folding his hands and lightly closed his eyes and sat quietly on the bed until we finished the prayers. In the middle of the prayer session, I gently placed the pastor’s Buddha pendant on Thai Hung’s forehead, and he did not reject it at all. After the prayers, Thai Hung was very tired. I thanked him and asked if he felt better. He said he felt very comfortable. So I asked him to rest and I left the room.
Thai Hung folded his hands while I placed a Buddha pendant on his forehead
Then Mr. Hee came out and told us that he was shocked at his brother’s transformation to accept today’s arrangement. Compared to two days ago, there was a change in him. Mr Hee said when the brother knew that his other siblings decided to sponsor five sessions of Medicine Buddha puja for him, his attitude changed slightly towards the better.
Seeing the transformation in Thai Hung, I quickly gave him the pictures of Lama Tsongkhapa and Setrap, together with Tsem Rinpoche’s holy image, a pocket-size Setrap card, and a small Tsongkhapa tsatsa made of incense. I told Thai Hung that he should keep the pocket-size Setrap card with him, keep the Lama Tsongkhapa tsatsa for himself, while the rest he could give away to others to accumulate merit for himself. Surprisingly he agreed to all of this.
Towards the end, I boldly ask Mr. Hee to ask Thai Hung that if Thai Hung were to pass away unfortunately, could I conduct the final rites for him? Without hesitation, Thai Hung nodded and said OK! Mr. Hee was very pleased with the changes in his brother. Later Mr. Hee also told me that the day after we did the prayer in the hospital, Thai Hung signed his will, which he had refused to sign before. Mr. Hee knew his brother’s character very well, and he said that for his brother to do that was definitely not easy at all.
I gave Thai Hung some holy images of Buddhas
Two days later, we visited Thai Hung again for the second time. It was also in the afternoon, and when Jeffrey Khor and I entered the room, it seemed like Thai Hung had been expecting us for a long time. Mr. Hee and Jeffrey Khor knew each other from Kechara and are good friends. In fact Mr. Hee started volunteering in Kechara due to Jeffrey’s recommendation.
Thai Hung smiled upon seeing us, and wanted to sit up from the bed. Initially I thought he wanted to go to the toilet, but realized that he actually got up to show respect to us, and he wanted to sit on the chair. Coincidentally three of his relatives were also visiting him at that time, but Thai Hung told them firmly that he needed to do prayers, and asked them to wait outside.
After finishing the prayers, Thai Hung told us that two days ago after the prayers ended, he felt very comfortable and peaceful, and his appetite also became good. And today he also felt the same.
I asked Thai Hung if he could accept his current state now, he nodded and smiled, and said that he could accept it now. I went on to explain to him that from the point of view of Buddhism, death is not the end, it just means our current life’s body is spoilt, but our mind stays alive, therefore he should not be attached, but should let go. Although it might be very difficult now, but the mind has to let go. Thai Hung nodded again and said he understood and accept.
Mr. Hee was very concerned about his brother, and asked me to explain to Thai Hung the benefits of making offerings. I told Thai Hung that, no matter if he believed in karma or Buddhism or not it did not matter, the most important fact was that he felt very comfortable upon hearing the prayers, and that was good enough. I went on to tell Thai Hung that the person who made it possible for Mr. Hee, Jeffrey Khor, Frederick Law and myself to be there and recite the prayers for him, was my guru His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche. Because of Tsem Rinpoche, he could meet us, and although the meeting was a short one, it was very precious and auspicious. I told Thai Hung that it was because Rinpoche always told us that it is very rare to be able to come across Vajrayana Buddhism, and it was not a coincidence for him. I told him that he must have a lot of merits to be able to come across this.
Mr. Hee (left) and his brother Thai Hung
I recommended Thai Hung to make an offering to the guru within his ability, because making offerings to the guru is the most direct offering with the greatest merits. With the urgency of his situation, he should create an affinity with Rinpoche so that the affinity could ripen in his next life. I also told Thai Hung that the guru’s blessing and the imprint of Dharma will not diminish, but will persist life after life. He seemed to able to accept all what I said, and when he did not understand, he would ask questions.
On August 25th, 2013, around 3pm in the afternoon, I received a call from Mr. Hee that Thai Hung’s condition had already worsened, and he had difficulty breathing. On the way to the hospital, Mr. Hee called and said that Thai Hung was still alive. Upon arriving at the hospital, I saw that Thai Hung was still alert, just that he could not open his eyes much. I touched his hands and realized that they were actually cold already, and he had big dark rings around his eyes, but he said he felt very hot…
I asked how was he feeling, he said he was suffering quite badly. I asked if he wanted us to recite prayers for him, he said yes with a willing and peaceful expression. Amidst the prayers, I felt an extreme sadness, I saw that he tried fold his hands together but could not do so. So I immediately told him that it was alright and that he could just stay lying down. After finishing the prayers, he extended his two arms trying to sit up, and his two sons helped him, he just wanted to say thank you to us.
Before I left the hospital, Mr. Hee passed to me a red envelope (a monetary gift in a red envelope) for Rinpoche, he told me that Thai Hung had it prepared 3 days ago, and was just waiting for me to collect it.
Thai Hung making prayers while holding his offering to Tsem Rinpoche, and looking at Tsem Rinpoche’s photo in front of him.
This was just two hours before he passed away.
Half an hour later, on the way back home, Mr. Hee called and said Thai Hung had passed away, in a very peaceful manner, so I immediately turned back to go to the hospital.
I believe Thai Hung must have a lot of merits, because when he was passing away, his brother could allocate quite a large and quiet area for me to perform the final rites for Thai Hung’s body. The ward room was very quiet, and three of us recited prayers while Thai Hung passed away peacefully.
Mr. Hee (center) and Kechara members doing puja at Thai Hung’s funeral
After I made the necessary arrangements, I updated my guru Tsem Rinpoche on the phone, and I felt very happy for Thai Hung, because just two hours before his passing away, he could make his first and also his last offering of this life to a high lama like Tsem Rinpoche, and I rejoiced tremendously. Thinking back, it was Jeffrey Khor who encouraged Mr. Hee to become a volunteer in Kechara, and because of that, Mr. Hee was able to make the best decision for his brother Thai Hung. And I myself also gained a lot of wisdom from this experience.
Most importantly, every time I stepped into Thai Hung’s ward room, I visualized Tsem Rinpoche and the protector as one, and from the bottom of my heart thanking Rinpoche that because of his love and blessing, I could do something meaningful with my life.
Thank you my guru Tsem Rinpoche from the bottom of my heart.

Pastor Yek Yee is a great lady with a strong compassion for helping others. Her kindness and compassion inspired us all.Pastor Yek Yee has shown me a very great example of benefiting others spiritually.
Pastor Yek Yee has shown to be an immense help for Thai Hung in his last days, helping him to accept his condition and spend his last days with a peaceful mind.Thakyou fo sharing this article.
Imagine if you have been living a healthy life and have not had serious illness before and suddenly the doctor announces that you only have a few months to live, how will you take it? I will be in shock, perhaps feel angry because there are so many things I have done. I will also feel scared, not knowing what will be next, what is it like to die.
For Mr Thai Hung, he was lucky to connect to Dharma and Tsem Rinpoche before he passed away. He was open-minded to listen to Pastor Yek Yee and found the peace of mind. This is very important because how we feel in our last moment will determine where we will take rebirth in.
We can be rich or poor but when it comes to death, it is the same. We can’t bring anything with us, not our family, not our wealth or possession. What we can bring with us is our karma, the habits we have developed over the years. If we want to live a better future life and be happy, we have to cultivate good qualities now and be mindful of what we think and what we do.
My hearties condolences for the loss of Mr Hee and their family, I pray that Mr Thai hung recieves a really fortunate rebirth. I’m so moved by the words and deeds of pastor Yek Yee and all the other pastors. I was especially moved when pastor Yek Yee talked about not caring about being embarrassed when she could help benfeit Mr. Thai Hung in his future lives. I’m so happy that I could come to this platform and meet such virtuous and holy pastors.
A very touching story and remind us how fortunate we are to be able to meet and learn dharma. We are thankful that there are many dedicated pastors and Kechara team members to help those who are in need. It can be really chaotic in time of emergency. Thank you Rinpoche for setting up Kechara and Pastor Yek Yee for your dedication towards dharma and benefiting others.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this beautiful article with us. Pastor Yek Yee is a great lady with a strong compassion for helping others. Her kindness and compassion inspired us all.
Thanks again Rinpoche and Pastor Yek Yee for sharing this article even it happen few years back.
It is nice to read this 3 year old article of Pastor Yek Yee’s compassion at work. Her dedication to her responsibilities is a fine example of guru devotion. She made a promise as she received the blessings from our Guru during the Pastorship conferment and she had kept her promise over and above her call of “duty”. Now 3 years on and she has taken on more responsibilities willingly. Whenever a call of help comes, she will arrange for you, be it a puja, a blessing and many many funerals. And all these whilst managing the operations of Kechara House. She really is a good reflection of our Guru’s teachings and compassion. Thank you Pastor Yek Yee and thank you Rinpoche, for without you we will never have Kechara and Pastors like Yek Yee.
This article is almost 3 years old, but reading it still bring a lot of emotions. It has been almost 3 years on, and Pastor Yek Yee is still ever hardworking, travelling to places to do puja, consultation, teaching, hospital visits, blessings, perform last rites, etc. Her Guru devotion is very strong, and everything Rinpoche asked her to do, she will do it without hesitation. She also has strong compassion towards others, and I feel that’s why she has never complained about her long hours and crazy schedule.
It is also through the kindness of Rinpoche that Rinpoche created the Buddhist Pastors system in Kechara. These pastors work tirelessly for the benefit of others in various ways. Some teach the Dharma, some perform rituals & blessings, etc etc.
Woa I just got the chance to read this blog post… I am deeply moved by this whole story especially about Mr. Hee and his final offering to H.E. Tsem Rinpoche. I am just so relief that he did not reject what Pastor Yek Yee advised him and embraced it all and trusted Pastor Yek Yee. Yes it is correct that the highest form of offering is actually offering to the Guru!
This story also strongly reminded me and allowed me to have a tiny glimpse of what Thai Hung was experiencing at the time of his death when Pastor Yek Yek went to see him and his hands was cold, and his eyes had dark circles and he was feeling “hot”. Like it was mentioned in the Lamrim on the stages of death, it has started for Thai Hung. I cannot imagine how he felt at that time… lost, scared…? All I know is that he is indeed very very fortunate to still have some good merits to connect with Dharma and hence Kechara/Pastor Yek Yee before his final great journey.
This story reminds me of my own immortality and I, we, will all go on this final journey too… when that happens nothing really matters, not our family, friends, love ones, attachments, branded fashion, material possessions, hang ups, likes, dislikes matters. Nothing really matters and Dharma is really all we need. Hence it is so fortunate for Mr.Hee that on his final journey, just 2 hours before his passing he could connect with Dharma by making offerings to Rinpoche! So so so lucky, so bless, so relief for him.
Thank you Jeffry for introducing Mr.Hee to Kechara which connected dharma to Thai Hung and thank you Pastor Yek Yee for your selfless, kind, compassionate act of serving others at the time of death. I hope when I die, you will be the one to say prayers for me too 🙂 hope I have the good merits. This is one of the many reasons why we need to support the Kechara Pastorship so that lineage will continue growing for future generations. https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/kechara-13-depts/support-the-kechara-pastors.html
Thank you Rinpoche for the sharing. I am grateful to have opportunity to volunteer in Kechara in Puja Team, learning from Pastor Yek Yee and the Puja Team members. This is so meaningful and special in my life’s journey.
I was very moved by this story of Pastor Yek Yee’s dedication and fearless determination to help this dying man. I am also quite saddened by his situation. It is really not easy to come to terms with news that we have only got a week to live. Many people have talked about what they would do if they only have 7 days left but no one truly understands what it would be like to understand what is going through his mind.
Therefore, great work Pastor Yek Yee, Mr Hee and Jeffery Khor for allowing this man some peace of mind just as he is about to take his greatest journey. It ain’t easy to do so and his ready acceptance of Buddhism and of his own mortality is incredibly moving. I guess one would say he had not choice. But he could have chosen to fight it. Whatever it is, I am just so moved by this story that it has spurred me to think about my own mortality. Who knows? It might be around the corner.
It is just so sweet that Mr Hee is able to meet the Dharma just right before he passes away. Mr Hee was able to meet the Dharma because of Pastor Yek Yee’s commitment to helping others.
I am so happy that Pastor Yek Yee is doing so much in order to serve and help others. I thank Rinpoche for having pastors among us in order to help all of us and others that we may have not met that would need our help.
My condolence to Mr Hee’s family.
Pastor Yek Yee has shown me a very great example of benefiting others spiritually especially at the very last and important moment that we need it. Very compassionate & touching.
I rejoice that Mr Thai Hung able to be closed to Dharma before he die. May he always be with Dharma and have a good and swift rebirth.
My condonlonces to Mr. Hee and family, may Mr. Thai Hung rest in peace and have a swift rebirth to met the Dharma again. Thank you Pastor Yek Yee for the prayers and comfort words.
This is very touching story and really hard to accept if suddenly doctor said that you have one week life only, what can do during this
7 days? So fortunate Pastor Yek Yee have sharing Dharma knowledge to Thai Hung and he also accept for it. Thank you to Pastor Yek Yee did a good example and benefit others ,only Dharma can bring us peaceful and let go our suffering. May Thai Hung have a good reborn.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this real life situation and Dharma teachings.
Its really sad and disheartening to receive news like this especially by their loved ones. But this is the reality of life and that death is inevitable.
Pastor Yek Yee has shown great compassion and went all the way to help Thai Hung face this unacceptable truth. She tirelessly and patiently ensure that Thai Hung needs in this most difficult situation is handled with great care and love. Pastor Yek Yee practices the Dharma and wholeheartedly surrenders herself to serve and benefit people in times of difficulties. This is attributed by her strong guru devotion and samaya with Rinpoche to love and care for all sentient beings.
Thai Hung initially could not accept the truth. His achievement of high level position, material fame was only for this current lifetime and are just temporary fulfilment of this life which will become empty when plagued by illness or death. He was more acceptable when Pastor Yek Yee gave an explaination that death is not the end and the mind stays alive, therefore he should not be attached. He also looked forward to Pastor Yek Yee and team revisits to conduct prayers for him. Thai Hung actually felt better and peaceful each time after a prayer is done. He was receptive to the prayers and receive blessing of the Buddha.
He was also able to make offerings to the guru which is the most direct offering with the greatest merits. Making offerings creates an affinity with our Guru so that it could ripen in the next life. With Guru’s blessing the imprint of Dharma will persist life after life. Thai Hung had great merits to connect with Rinpoche during his most crucial time of needs which was attributed through his brother Mr Hee who is a volunteer with Kechara House. Mr. Hee wanted to help his brother to collect more merits and purify his negative karma for his future life.
All this is made possible beacuse we have a guru His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche to guide and teach us the Dharma. Rinpoche is very kind and compassionate. He goes all the way to ensure the recipient gets the necessary needs to alleviate their pain and suffering. Through the offerings of Rinpoche’s pictures and gifts, Thai Hung will be able connect with Rinpoche and the Dharma in his next life. Dharma is the medicine to comprehend our suffering and to have peace and harmony with oneself and everyone around us. Dharma is the best gift to treasure.
I sincerely pray and wish for Thai Hung to have swift and good human rebirth and meet the Dharma & 3 Jewels in his future life. I also wish to pray for Rinpoche’s good stable health to remain and continuously to teach us the Dharma.
With folded hands
Rena
This so touching and brought tears to my eyes. For someone who is not religious at all throughout his life accepting a totally brand new religion towards the end of his life, is very very rare! What is most rejoicing is the fact that he accepted the kindness of the Lama through Pastor Yek Yee and immediately have faith for H.E. Tsem Rinpoche. The last act of making a red packet offering to Rinpoche is the direct proof of this! Thank you Pastor Yek Yee for always be ready to receive others at the most needed time! By doing so, you are directly manifesting care, love and compassion of Rinpoche and lead others to a higher rebirth! Thank you so very much!
Rinpoche setup the Pastors system which is unconventional and ground breaking within the Gelug world. Is it to allow lay people who have a greater appreciation and sense of the dharma to serve others, to share their deeper knowledge of the dharma and rituals. They also hold vows to guide them to do their work better amongst the lay community.
Most people who are not very religious or spiritual their deaths is one that is filled with fear and anxiety and they do not know where they are heading to and what lies ahead. even before death sets in the person who is facing death will not have an ideal mental state at all. We all know our last thoughts are what determine where will take another rebirth. Based on the system set up by Rinpoche, people who face death have a better chance to die in peace and a better chance to have a better rebirth. Thank you to Pastor Yek yee and other pastors for helping people make that last final journey.
This story was extremely beautiful, we all always knew Pastor Kok Yek Yee was a really compassionate person who has been known to have transformed a lot since the first day she came into Kechara. It is amazing the work she does out of compassion for others and tries to help whenever she can even if it were to be rejected/ridiculed/embarrassed. She shows great example and inspiration for other. Thank you for sharing this story Rinpoche and for giving Pastor Kok Yek Yee the authority to act as Pastor. She really does a lot of good work. My deepest condolences goes out to Mr Hee and his Family and I wish Thai Hung a good rebirth close to dharma.
Pastor Yek Yee is so caring and inspiring. May Pastor Yek Yee be the sunshine to more people and bring immense benefit. Thank you Pastor Yek Yee you are an extension of our Lama.
Pastor Yek Yee could be a similar future master Cheng Yen of Tzu Chi foundation of Taiwan in the making in Malaysia! Master Cheng Yen is often being called “Mother Teresa of Asia”. Like master Cheng Yen, Pastor Yek Yee has pledged to do her level best to serve all humanity on a 24/7 basis. Perhaps similar to master Cheng Yen, Pastor Yek Yee’s many past experiences and karmic feelings might have made herfelt for a higher calling, through which she could have envision that we are all living in a World of kindness, Joy, compassion, sharing and equality in all beings. Yes Rinpoche, all of us pledge our words of love and encouragement to Pastor Yek Yee, and wish her every success. May she be greatly blessed to be ever conscientious to practise ever possible virtue taught by our Guru, perfecting all realisations of the Path, so as to gain enlightenment swiftly to benefit all sentient beings. Om mani padmi hum.
A lama’s qualities can be seen when embodied by the student. Here, Pastor Yek Yee embodies the tenacity and passion of His Eminence Tsem Tulku Rinpoche to spread the Dharma and come to the aid of the needy. P. Yek Yee here is celebrated here because of her trust and devotion to her Lama to continuously help alleviate the sufferings of many people whether terminally ill, struck with social problems and even at the last leap of the journey for someone.
Whenever we think there’s security in money, love, relationships and family, we ought to reflect on life again. at the point of death, nothing matters. The value of life is measured by how deep a good mark we left in life.
I pray that Pastor Yek Yee be endowed with good health and happiness always in undertaking her Lama’s instructions, teachings and wishes.
Thank you Rinpoche and Pastor YekYee for sharing us a real compassion. I feel touch when I read this blog post because the true compassion is being practices to someone we do not know or we never meet before. Thank you Rinpoche for staying with us and may all Rinpoche wishes be fulfill .
Thank you Rinpoche for the sharing. In deed Pastor Yek Yee is a compassionate and determine person with only the sole intention to spread the benefit of Dharma to all.
We had heard stories that she would go all out to help others will little concern for rest for her self. She is in deed admirable and should be followed as an example if we are serious to help others and spread the precious Dharma the same time.
Thank you Pastor Yek Yee for your guidance and compassion through effective means to lead us through to reach the ultimate jewel (mind transformation through Dharma)!!!
I can’t imagine how Thai Hung must have felt when he was told that he only had one week left to live.
All future plans vanished, all unfinished business will remain unfinished, all that was not started will not start…
This must have been an extremely difficult ordeal to face.
Pastor Yek Yee has shown to be an immense help for Thai Hung in his last days, helping him to accept his condition and spend his last days with a peaceful mind rather than with an angry and excited mind, helping him also to keep looking forward, even though he was dying.
Pastor Yek Yee was empowered to help in this way thanks to the beneficial actions of Tsem Tulku Rinpoche.
My sympathies go to the late Thai Hung’s family and his brother, Mr. Hee. This account of Thai Hung meeting and accepting the Dharma in his final days in quite moving. It is when we see someone lying on the deathbed rather helplessly that we are again reminded how futile virtually all of our samsaric pursuits are. Death is one certainty that very few are prepared for and if we were to look at the things in life we place significance on, it becomes clear that we live as if death is never going to touch us. We have all been through the dying process many times before and if somehow we could remember the process, we would all quickly seek the Dharma a soon as we take rebirth. Of this I am very sure.
When Tsem Rinpoche created Kechara’s Pastorship, it is so that many people can come to benefit from the Dharma and Pastor Yek Yee fulfills Rinpoche’s vision very well. News of how Pastor Yek Yee has helped so many people selflessly is quite a regular occurrence these days and she has become an excellent ambassador for Tsem Rinpoche, Kechara House and the Dharma. By her compassion and very noble acts, many more will come to know and experience the Buddha’s teachings and she is a true personification of Rinpoche’s advice for everyone to live their lives in kind service of others.
my condolences to Mr. Hee Thai Hung and family, and to Mr. Hee for his dearest brother demise. Although it does come as a shock to the family members when Thai Hung suddenly was diagnosed with such conditions, but at the moment before he pass away, Thai Hung was able to receive blessing from Pastor Yek Yee, and on top of that he also made offering to Rinpoche, which created a cause to meet the Dharma in the future rebirth, and collected vast amount of merits for a Good Rebirth.
On the first visit when i went with Pastor Yek Yee to visit Mr. Hee Thai Hung, he was very calm, and agreed very quickly to the request from Pastor Yek Yee that we do a prayer for him, to the surpise of Mr. Hee, who told us he was surprise that his brother was very calm and even agree that we do prayers for him. After the prayer, Pastor Yek Yee even gave Thai Hung Buddha card to keep by his side, and he also accepted it with open heart, i believe Thai Hung feels the sincerity of Pastor Yek Yee to help him which is the reason why he is able to agree and accept prayer done for him even though it was his first time to get to know us through Mr. Hee.
Pastor Yek Yee very skillfully thinks and uses every situation to benefit the person that she meets, in this case Mr. Hee Thai Hung and his family member, and her dedication as a Pastor to serve the sentient beings holds true to her philosophy of Guru Devotion which is inspire from Tsem Rinpoche.
May future Pastors able to poses the qualities and devotion and also the compassion of what is being carried now by Pastor Yek Yee, so that Dharma and H.E Tsem Rinpoche Dharma activity can benefit even more sentient being all over the world.
Awesome! Very inspirational.
Thank you Rinpoche and Pastor Yek Yee sharing. It really touching and glad that Mr. Thai Hung able to meet and accept Rinpoche at his last moment. Every thing is not coincidence, It need a lot of merits and efforts to make it happen, Pastor Yek Yee really show true kindness and compassion which taught by Rinpoche by helping others. I was inspired by this statement “when we help others, sometime we are being rejected but their future life is more important than our embrasessment being rejected. ” I have learned from this sharing.
Although it is very sad to hear of Mr. Thai Hung’s story, at the same time, I am also happy that in the final days and hours in this life he had accepted the Noble truth of suffering and embraced Buddhism and left this world in a peaceful manner.
May Mr. Thai Hung have a swift and good rebirth to continue his practice.
It is always inspiring to hear of the work that Kechara do all the time to help people gain peace and happiness. In particular many thanks to Pastor Yek Yee.
My experience with Pastor Yek Yee is that she is such a giving person, nothing is too much nor difficult for her to do a kind and caring act. Thank you Pastor Yek Yee.
Thank you Rinpoche and Pastor Yek Yee for sharing with us this wonderful story. It is amazing how powerful the pastors are when it comes to benefiting others through communication. A pastor is a student like any other except for one quality. Their exceptional guru devotion. That guru devotion empowers them to be capable of helping others be guided through their worst bit of their lives – Death.
I rejoice that Mr. Hee helped his brother by calling the pastors and I rejoice that Mr. Thai Hung accepted the prayers and moved on peacefully.
I hope that Thai Hung’s future life will be able to meet the Dharma early on. Allowing him to collect more merits.
Thank you Tsem rinpoche for sharing this article with us. I feel proud and touch on the efforts that Pastor Yek Yee contributes for those who’re needed.
Unlike us, normally we will feel proud on ourselves after we involved in any kind “charitable activity”. Besides that , many of us might also hanging around our “charitable activity” story with our friends etc.In addition, some of us might started to complain to the others about our tiredness after involved in the “charitable activity” But, how many of us can act like Pastor Yek Yee??? She is a real dharma practitioner who is 24 hours non-stopping practising the dharma in her life with a pure motivation. Instead, although she might feel tired, but she always put the priority on those who’re needed.
Yes, perhaps we’re still cant act accordingly like Pastor Yek Yee at the moment, but at least we can do our best to help those who’re needed because it eventually will promote the harmony in society .
Thank you Pastor Yek Yee! Jia you Pastor Yek Yee! . May Mr. Thai Hung can have a good rebirth!
When I was listening to Pastor Yek Yee telling this incident, I can feel her sincerity from her words and she is indeed very grateful for Rinpoche’s blessing and guidance. While listening to this I’m very glad that Mr. Hee’s brother finally accepted Buddha in his life and has then pass away very peacefully and without fear. What’s even more glad is that the last action of his life is showing gratitude and paying his respect to Rinpoche’s holy images. We are never too late to prepare for our death. It can just strikes anytime, as for Thai Hung, he was fortunate enough to prepare for death even it’s only just a week. He listened and accepted Buddha in his final moments in life which is just one short week. A miracle! May he has a good and swift rebirth and be able to learn and practice the Dharma in young age. Much prayers to him. Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this, and many thanks to Pastor Yek Yee who is always tirelessly in service for others.
As I read the heartfelt account of Pastor Yek Yee, I am pleasantly surprised at her humility and her total faith in Rinpoche. She is indeed a wonderful Dharma sister, the quintessential Buddhist Pastor but most of all, a true practitioner!
She is also an epitome of resilience and calm when it comes to situations where most of us would be “freaking out”. I rejoice for her journey and her inspiration she gives us all!
And of course thank you Rinpoche for being that beacon of light for us all that we may emulate and free ourselves from our own self made sufferings!
There are so many important points to learn from this wonderful sharing.
Firstly, there is no saying when we will die, even when we go for yearly medical check ups and receive a clean bill of health from the doctors. Preparations for our deaths and the journey after must be done now, cannot procastinate.
When we introduce people to Dharma we cannot forsee immediately the magnitude of benefits that can be generated. In this situation due to Jeffrey Khor’s initiative to introduce Dharma to Mr Hee, Mr Thai Hung benefitted from the Guru, Dharma and Sangha. May he have a good rebirth in his next life.
Pastor Yek Yee was a journalist who had the opportunity to meet the 3Jewels through the course of her work. From the moment she left her
secular work and started working full time for the Dharma, there was no turning back. All she had in her she put into her studies and practice of the Dharma. Her Guru was her sole devotion. She did as she was told and ride through all her challenges silently with no drama or complains. Wherever she failed, she tried her best to improve and move on. All she cared for were the “OTHERS” around her. She has no ego on her acheivements and strive all the time to do more and better. What a rare jewel she is ! And all this she achieved because she believed in her Guru and his guidance.
We are all very very blessed to have met such a wonderful Guru as Tsem Rinpoche. From his guidance and teachings he has produced many heros in Kechara who are empowered by his love and compassion to go out and benefit many . In the future, many more will benefit from Rinpoche’s works and teachings. Thank you Rinpoche. May you have good health and long life to continue benefitting many.
Despite her busy schedule, Pastor Yek Yee always accommodates to the needs of others. Pastor Yek Yee is indeed a beautiful person with a beautiful heart.
It must be a relieve for the Hee’s family that Pastor Yek Yee was around to conduct prayers for Thai Hung to prepare for his last journey. May Thai Hung take a swift and good rebirth.
It is all due to Pastor Yek Yee’s guru devotion that she is what she is today. From the 1st day I met her, guru devotion is what she always instills in me. She teaches me what guru devotion is and how important it is in our spiritual practice. She has demonstrated that with 100% faith and devotion in one’s guru, we can benefit many and be successful. If you compliment PYY, she will just tell you straight that without Rinpoche, she will not be able to do what she is doing now.
My condolences to Mr.Hee’s family..
Thank You for sharing Rinpoche, Pastor Yek Yee is truly a very kind and loving person, she spent most of her time helping others without complaining, what she wanted to do was to benefit others so they feel better. May Pastor Yek Yee have good health and long life so she may continue to benefit many more.
Thank you Rinpoche and Pastor Yek Yee for sharing this with us.
The entire time I was reading this, I tried to put myself in Thai Hung’s position and felt really sad. I can’t imagine how I’d react if I was told I have only 1 week left to live and it’s very inspiring to see Thai Hung accept his situation and let go, even to the point of fully trusting Pastor Yek Yee.
Pastor Yek Yee is indeed a very hard working and kind person, I was fortunate to meet her and see her in action at KFR. Truly and inspiration to all of us.
I especially like the way Pastor Yek Yee comforted Thai Hung, explaining that when we die, it’s not really the end, just that our body is rotten and our mind stream needs a new vessel.
Kechara has so many good people. I think that Rinpoche has brought up a lot of amazing kecharian hero’s. It must have been a very difficult
moment for Thai Hung. I am glad that pastor Yek Yee did the final rites for Thai Hung.
Dear Pastor Yek Yee
As I read this story, I am genuinely touched by your kindness. I am very happy with your dedications to your role as a pastor. I particularly like your determination and the fact that although you know you may have been rejected, you tried anyway knowing that Mr. Thai Hung needed your help. I totally understand your feeling as I have risked it many times in my Dharma work and secular work. I am very happy knowing about your work and you know it really helps someone like me knowing that I am not alone. You really inspire me to do more.
Much love and care
Valentina
With her compassion and determination,Pastor Yek Yee had relieved pain and distress of a person who is dying.
She offers support and prayers all the way to Mr Thai Hung so that he can passed on with a calm mind, with spiritual and positive thoughts uppermost because she knows that the state of mind at the time of death is vitally important and plays an important role in determining what will happen to the person after death. She is very inspiring indeed!
I thank you Rinpoche so much for sharing this incredible news. With Rinpoche’s kindness and blessings we have Pastors such as Pastor Yek Yee.May more be inspired by her beautiful heart.
I rejoice for Thai Hung that at the end of his life, he received the last prayers from our Pastor Yek Yee. I respected Pastor Yek Yee very much because she always ready to help and she helped quietly. That’s how sincere she is. Yes.. we need more more more pastors like Pastor Yek Yee who willing put herself aside and put benefits of others up front. This is through faith and kindness of our guru.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this with us although it is private. Its is very touching how she is so kind to other and we can learn from this. I hope to grow up and be as kind to people as Pastor Yek Yee is.
Thanks Rinpoche for the sharing. I am so fortunate to have change to go for out call puja at Johor before. Pastor Yek Yee is truly a selfless person. Help and serve the others is always her priority.
Thanks again for the sharing
This is a most touching story indeed. It shows how a normally unbending and stubborn person when facing his death, has the great merit to receive the most powerful help of all- the blessings of the Dharma and the Three Jewels from a most compassionate Kechara pastor. Pastor Yek Yee has shown time and again her selflessness in serving others in need at all hours. The thing that drives her, as she says, is her Guru Devotion and the example of a Guru of infinite love, compassion and selflessness.
Mr Thai Hung passed away in peace and gratitude, holding an offering to Tsem Rinpoche and looking at a picture of him.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this beautiful story of selfless Pastor Yek Yee’s dedication to dharma and also of Mr. Thai Hung’s meeting the dharma just before his passing. May he have a good rebirth.
Pastor Yek Yee is always working hard to bring dharma to others and this is a wonderful example of how she is always ready to do so, even when she knows she might face resistance to her helping hand.
How wonderful it is Mr. Thai Hung to be able to meet Dharma in this lifetime. May he have a good and swift re-birth!
This is very touching. As long as we have faith in our Guru and Protector, we can benefit others, we can make a different. It is really Pastor Yek Yee’s style when she said:…even I was rejected it doesn’t matter…She put her embarassment lower than another person’s benefits. She put her “sturbornness” in a good way. And Mr Hee has made a wise decision for his brother. May Mr Thai Hung has a good rebirth.
This is not an ordinary story where we read daily.. it is based on true story and real experience. It is truly a very touching story. Pastor Yek yee is such a wonderful wonderful person where she always thinks of how to benefit others no matter what.
It’s really rare that a person who’s about to pass on will transform so quickly and accept all the tings that Pastor Yek Yee and others did. Being able to help someone and to introduce Buddhism and Dharma to a person who’s gonna pass on is definitely something that’s hard to do. But lucky enough for Mr Thai Hung to accept all of these. May he have a good rebirth and meet the Dharma in his next lifetime. Rejoice for Pastor Yek Yee’s hardwork.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this story. _/\_
Thank you Rinpoche and the Kechara puja team and especially Pastor Yek Yee who work tirelessly for the people and the Dharma. Rejoice to Mr. Tai Hung who finally managed to meet Buddhism and except his condition before he passed on peacefully.
May Mr. Tai Hung take a good rebirth.
Thank you Pastor Yek Yee for showing us what it takes and mean to bring peace and acceptance to someone in their final moments.
Thank you, Rinpoche for bringing Dharma to us. _/|\_
Thank you Rinpoche and pastor Yek Yee for being compassionate in touching everyone heart when they needed the most.
Thank you
Thank you very much Rinpoche for showing us what is dedication of a Pastor and the hardwork and effort put in to bring happiness and others as demonstrated by Pastor Yek Yee who tirelessly serve others through Dharma. _/\_. Condolence to the Hee family on the other hand I am happy that Thai Hung is blessed by the Three Jewels and and accepted it. May he have a swift good rebirth may he meet the dharma in his next life. Here I learn is no matter how other reject it is how to go around the problem to solve the problem.
Thank you Pastor Yek Yee for showing the way to benefit others whole heartedly. _/\_
It is very sad and difficult for Mr Hee’s brother, Thai Hung, to receive news that his life will be over in a week. At the same time I am very happy that Pastor Yek Yee has done to her best ability to improve the situation by relieving Thai Hung of his mental suffering through prayers, explaining the Dharma, and making a connection with Tsem Rinpoche. More importantly it is because of every one being there for Thai Hung that he has being able to let go so quickly. Pastor Yek Yee shows a very good example to follow for all Pastors and aspiring Pastors to be.
My condolences to Mr Hee Thye Sang (and his family) on the demise of his beloved brother the late Mr Hee Thai Hung.
I am extremely touched by this sharing by H. E. Tsem Rinpoche.
Life is truly fragile. Mr Hee Thai Hung’s final departure has shown us the importance of preparing for death. There is no warning whatsoever when death strikes us. The reality is not many people are well prepared for their death! Knowing what to do ensure we have a smooth transition to our next life. Only by engaging in Dharma practice sincerely NOW can at the very least ensure our safe passage.
What strikes me most is Gratitude. Everyone of us have since beginingless time have benefited from the kindness of so many living beings. In this case, the late Mr Hee Thai Hung has accumulated much merits to create a connection with H. E. Tsem Rinpoche and the precious Three Jewels (Buddha, Dharma & Sangha) at the last moments of his life. This ensures in his next life he will be able to meet Rinpoche and The Three Jewels again.
It is a blessing indeed that the late Mr Hee had let go of his prior preconception about Buddhism and accepted Pastor Yek Yee’s assistance to perform prayers for him. We can see that the late Mr Hee had benefited from the prayers performed for him. We are certain the late Mr Hee will take a good and swift rebirth through the blessings of our kind lama H. E. Tsem Rinpoche.
The late Mr Hee is very fortunate to have a caring brother like Mr Hee Thye Sang who is a member of Kechara House. Mr Hee knows Tsem Rinpoche and Kechara can help his late brother at that critical last moments. Thank You Mr Hee for your faith in Rinpoche and Kechara.
Due to the kindness of H. E. Tsem Rinpoche, we have pastors like Pastor Kok Yek Yee. She exudes an immaculate example of a bodhisattva. Thank You Pastor Yek Yee for your kind service to the late Mr Hee.
Many others have extended their help here in one way or another notably Mr Hee Thye Sang, Frederick Law, Kechara Puja House team members and Jeffrey Khor
All of us are inter-connected and we definitely have benefited from another persons’ kindness. It is only right we repay their kindnesses. We should help others at all times because they had helped us in the past.
Thanks all for sharing. Sadhu, Sadhu, Sadhu
This is what Buddhism or the purpose of religion is all about. It is the teachings of the Buddha that we learned, practice, transformed for us to be kinder, caring and become wiser to benefit others by relieving their burden or worries, etc.
These are the deeds of a sincere Buddhist practitioner ie. Buddhist pastor like Pastor Yek Yee who goes all out to share with others, what Buddhism is all about. With direct guidance from our spiritual guide, Tsem Rinpoche – we can all go very far with what we’ve studied, learned and eventually to emulate and practice the teachings of the Buddha to be able to help others.
Mr Hee’s brother Thai Hung had been very blessed to receive merit to be able to remain connected with Tsem Rinpoche before his passing, not only in this life but in future lives too.
I like the part where Pastor Yek Yee said “Most importantly, every time I stepped into Thai Hung’s ward room, I visualized Tsem Rinpoche and the protector as one, and from the bottom of my heart thanking Rinpoche that because of his love and blessing, I could do something meaningful with my life.”
The family and relatives of Mr. Thai Hung must be joyful and relieved that he accepted prayers to be done for him that helped him greatly as he prepared for his last journey in this life. Thanks to Tsem Rinpoche, Pastor Yek Yee and team, and Kechara.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing and thank you Pastor Yek Yee for your selfless act of compassion . Kechara is truly blessed to have someone like Pastor Yek Yee. May Mr Thai Hung have an excellent rebirth and be always close to the Buddhadharma.
Thank you Rinpoche, thank you Pastor Yek Yee for sharing and showing us the meaning of life is to benefit others. May Guru Rinpoche, Buddha, dharma and Sangha be always with us. I made a vow to serve people the same like I love and taking good care my Parents and my Grandma at home right now. OM MANI PADME HUM.
Dear Yee
I am deeply touched by your unconditional love and care for others, especially at crucial time, when someone is known for his/her death. I do not have much to say, I just would like to express my heartfelt wish and prayers for the deceased to have good rebirth to have greater opportunity for him to practice dharma. For yee, I would like to encourage her to keep up the same spirit, she is exhibiting the true guru-disciple relationship! _/\_
With deep respect and appreciation,
sam10, Bhutan
Thank you Rinpoche for the sharing.
We are very lucky to have Pastor Yek Yee in kechara house.
She really work hard to spread the dharma and rinpoche teaching to all of us. No matter how many day left for a person. She will do her best and go all the way.
May Mr. Thai Hung have a good rebirth
Pastor Yek Yee is definitely all of the above. She is one who has not just studied Dharma and let it remain as dry intellectual knowledge but has internalized it as clearly shown by all the cases of sick and dying people she has helped.
I have personally not once heard Pastor Yek Yee complain of irregular and long hours. A few years ago, several factions criticized Kechara when Rinpoche appointed afew Kecharians and gave them the vow and blessings to be Pastors. Three years on, and to date our Pastors have helped so many on their dying beds. Their families are also relieved of pain and fear knowing that their loved ones will be fine.
I love what Pastor Yek Yee wrote: I thought about the situation for a while, and told Mr. Hee that I would not mind if I were to be rejected by his brother, because Tsem Rinpoche has always said that when we help others, we would sometimes be rejected but their future lives are more important than our own embarrassment of being rejected. Even if I were to be rejected, at least I tried.
Fear of rejection is already a step to failure because you have failed even without trying. How many could have been deprived of some form of help and by the time you overcome the fear, it could have been too late.
I hope Kechara can have even more Pastors so that we can reach out to more who need their services. Rinpoche is only one, but our Pastors are the spiritual arms and legs to extend help and relief to others. Kudos to Kechara’s spiritual ambassadors!
Why on earth (& on other planets and galaxies) would someone criticize the empowerment to carry out the work of compassion? I just read about Mother Theresa, whose small order began in 1950 with 13 members in Calcutta and by 1997 it had grown to more than 4,000 sisters running orphanages, AIDS hospices and charity centres worldwide, and caring for refugees, the blind, disabled, aged, alcoholics, the poor and homeless, and victims of floods, epidemics, and famine. _/\_
Condolence to the Hee’s family, may he take a good rebirth and able to meet Dharma again.
Thanks Rinpoche for sharing, this moment every reader will meet one day so we need to know how and what we should do before and after this moment.
Pastor Yek Yee with Rinpoche blessing not only good in action hence she also convince Mr Thai Hung to receive the blessing by 3 jewels. Thanks all the participants also that help Hee’s family.
Dear Rinphoche,
Thank you for sharing that beautiful account of Pastor Yek Yee’s work. Pastor Yek Yee is indeed a beautiful person that radiates gentleness, kindness and compassion. She has such a calming and comforting aura about her that not many people possess. These are the qualities that strikes out when I first met her.
To Mr. Hee and family, my heartfelt condolences and may your brother, Thai Hung have a better rebirth. Thank you for sharing your personal story with us.
Very inspiring incident, and this is one of the very good virtue deed that Pastor Yekyee does daily to benefit others. The messages by Pastor Yekyee touched me a lot , especially below paragraphs:
“No matter if he believed in karma or Buddhism or not it did not matter, the most important fact was that he felt very comfortable upon hearing the prayers, and that was good enough. ”
When we are at the juncture of death/near death, prayers with deep conviction and faith help tremendously. Pastor Yekyee has 100% faith with Tsem Rinpoche , her compassion, love and care towards others is genuine and she is working hard for dharma, she put in effort consistently, hence her prayers shown power of blessings and results.
Thank you Pastor Yekyee always bring peace and happiness to others.
May Mr Thai Hung has a good rebirth.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this touching post.
Sadhu Sadhu Sadhu
This account of Pastor Yek Yee’s act of compassion shows what people in Dharma can do to help others. Pastor Yek Yee does Dharma work tirelessly and I’ve witnessed many times, she would go out of her way to relieve others of their suffering, be it in hospitals, people’s houses or at funerals. She has inspired many young people to volunteer and do Dharma work, either full-time or part-time. We are very lucky to have Pastor Yek Yee in Kechara House.
My condolence to the Hee’s family..
This real-life event is very touching indeed and it shows the quality of dedication, strong faith and compassion of Pastor Yek Yee. She is very hard working, knowledgeable, yet very humble. She works very hard and don’t complain. While I rejoice reading the article, it puts me to shame as I know I am very attached to my comfort zone while people like Pastor Yek Yee is willing to give up her attachments for others.
May Thai Hung have a very good rebirth and in his next life, he will be able to contribute to the Dharma at a younger age.

Thank you Rinpoche and Pastor Yek Yee showing us the meaning of life that’s to benefit others.
It brings tears to my eyes reading the progress and Pastor Yek Yee did a wonderful job to comfort and connect people to Dharma. Pastor is a normal person like us but what make them so powerful is their faith to their Guru and the determination to do the best for others.
Glad that Mr.Hee did a good thing for his brother, by understanding more knowledge, not only can help ourselves, we can release others from suffering too. I think that’s the purpose to sread Dharma because we wish for less suffering in this world.
Thank you all for making this possible and may Mr. Thai Hung rest in peace, have a good rebirth to meet the 3 precious Jewels! _/\_
