Designer Eric Choong Teaches DIY Fashion at KSA
Kechara Saraswati Arts Dept is one of the 13 beautiful departments of Kechara House. It is our arts/crafts/painting/sculpture/tailoring dept…we do it all in house…We can paint/repair statues, brocade/repair thangkas etc….We are the only traditional Himalayan/Tibetan arts centre in Southeast Asia….I love this Dept. I received an update from Liaison Paul Yap that our good friend Eric Choong (Malaysian Haute Couture Fashion Designer) ran a “Do It Yourself” fashion class in Kechara Saraswati Arts. I’m so happy that he gave his time out of his busy schedule to kick start the creative engine of KSA’s young and old. By the looks of the pictures below, everyone had a good time.
Eric showed our Kecharians how, with a little DIY, they can recycle their old fashion into something new and trendy. In this intimate class, Eric guided a group with little to no experience, sharing the tips of what they could do, and… should NEVER do with their creations. With lots of DIY examples presented in his slideshow, the students were let loose to design away and fashion themselves something new.
I hear there are plans for more classes in future with our local fashionista. Check out the photos Paul sent me from the class. Thank you Eric Choong, thank you Paul!

Class begins 11am. Eric introducing himself and explaining a bit about fashion theory. The question was “What is the difference between Style and Fashion?” Eric shares that Style is very personal, and is all about your character, living background, beliefs. Whereas, fashion is about seasons and trend. |

Wow! Didn’t realise a t shirt can be redone in to so many designs. Eric is very creative. What a great idea to recycle our old clothes into something new and trendy. The participants look like they had lots of fun especially the kids.
Helena’s t shirt design looks great! I wouldn’t have know it’s recycled. Thank you Eric!
