3,000kg of rice for Bentong & YB Dato’ Sri Dr Liow Tiong Lai
On the 15th September 2012, the Kechara Soup Kitchen (KSK) committee, a few KSK volunteers and our Malaysian Health Minister, YB Dato’ Sri Dr Liow Tiong Lai, traveled to the outskirts of Bentong where 325 aborigines lives. The mission for the day was to distribute 3000 kg of rice between families living in two aboriginal settlements called Kampung Sungai Dua Hulu and Kampung Sungai Dua Olak. These two settlements are located approximately 10 km from Bentong town.
A nearby school called Sekolah Kebangsaan Kampung Sungai Dua kindly allowed KSK to use their property to host the event. A total of 92 families were each given rice packets, the Ministry of Health conducted free medical check ups and there was even a telematch for the local aborigines. Many prizes were given to the winners… how fun!
It is great to see that the event was a successful one. I would like to thank Malaysia’s Health Minister YB Dato’ Sri Dr Liow Tiong Lai for gracing the event. I heard that Dato’ helped to carry the heavy packets of rice to distribute to the people. I am also very happy to see so many of KSK’s dedicated volunteers helping out, loading and unloading 3000 kgs of rice to be distributed!
Ever since KSK launched their Food Bank project, KSK has been distributing food items such as biscuits, cooking oil, rice, milo and other food stuff to families that are below the poverty line and also to under-funded NGOs. The Food Bank project is extremely good and have benefited many people ever since it was launched in May 2012. May KSK continue to benefit others and for more people to step forward and offer their support to KSK to improve the lives of the poor in Malaysia.
Kechara believes in Community service very much!

Congratulations Datuk Ruby and KSK for really championing in alleviating hunger! Every year KSK grow bigger not just in the projects and amount of food they give out but you guys also grow bigger in heart. Definitely it is an awesome milestone to witness from when Rinpoche started feeding the homeless back in India, to buying packets of food to give out on random night here in Kuala Lumpur city… and from Rinpoche one single prayer and wish to have a soup kitchen… it has manifested to become this huge amazing NGO that feeds no only the homeless in KL but now venturing to other part of the country. Bravo guys! I guess Bentong town will definitely see more of us 😉
Great news indeed! The homeless enjoy the nurturing from the caring team of volunteers and staff off KSK.Many people turn a blind eye toward the problem of homelessness but KSK chose to do something about this problem.Congratulations to Dato’ Ruby and team.
Thank you Rinpoche, for sharing with us this news.
Kechara Bolih!

As the saying goes, “HUNGER KNOWS NO FRIEND BUT ITS FEEDER.” So wherever hunger is you find Kechara Soup Kitchen (KSK). As always taught by our Guru, “Commitment and integrity are two of the most important ingredients to fulfill our wishes and projects.” Eversince KSK launched their food bank project, KSK has been distributing food items such as biscuits, cooking oil,Rice, milo and other food stuff to families that are below the poverty line and also to under-funded NGOs. Many heartfelt thanks to our Health Minister Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai for gracing the aforsaid event with such tiredless enthusiasm in helping out our KSK to distribute 3,000kg of rice between families living in the two aboriginal settlements of Kampung Sungai Dua Hulu and Kampung Sungai Dua Olak.
It was a great idea of ksk to have agreat idea to have a food Bank at bentong. I m sure that it will benifit more people tban kl. i hope that one day will have one food bank in jb as well, niw our ksk activity can distribute 30 pktsif food each week, we r short if volunteer, I wlll try my best to do it n hope that if u got friend n relactive in jb, pls let them know we have ksk activity in jb too, yr help will be much appreciated.
It wasn’t just the giving out of the food but a special outing for the Orang Asli. The KSK Team did something good and special for the people and it showed on all their faces. Dato’ Ruby did a fabulous job and delivered a great speech in “posh Bahasa”. I especially appreciate how the Minister took time and made real effort to solve the villagers’ problems. We do take a lot for granted.
Congratulations to KSK for yet another great feat.
3 tons of rice. It is really a lot of rice but these are for 325 aborigines living there. Very inspiring. KSK staff and volunteers went to almost their doorsteps to deliver the food to them. Thank you Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai for helping us out there. It will show a good example to others that we can help the unfortunate by being there and helping out. 🙂
Wow… KSK has been tirelessly bringing food to those needed it very much. This is not just about food but loves and cares.
More and more people joining this great meritorious act and more more and people realize the important to share their time and effort for benefiting others.
Great work KSK and team!
Thank you Dato’s Ruby for the wonderful news, KSK is benefiting more and more people. Rejoice 🙂
Great work KSK and Dato Ruby, you guys are bringing food to those who are in need of it. Hope KSK expands in terms of the benefit that it gives to the many people.
We are not rich but we share with those without whatever we have.
I just like the idea of Food Bank! Congratulation to Kechara Soup Kitchen, Dato Ruby and her team for again live up the motto of KSK – “Hunger Knows No Borders”, for we did not see age, gender, race, religion, or politics or any background, when we lend a hand to help.
Congratulation again!
Thank you to all Kecharians and volunteers who helped make this event a success.
I want to draw everyone’s attention to Joe (look at last picture, the Indian gentleman at far left) and his team (the two Indian young men who were not in red KSK t shirt). Joe and his team was hired to transport the 3,000 kg of rice, meal grains, buntings and bottled water from KL to Bentong.
We told joe to come alone with his lorry, as no expense was budgeted for extra labour to save cost. Little did we knew, joe brought his team and the three of them work very very hard to load everything (with the help of all volunteers) onto the lorry, unloaded them when in Bentong. And they took active parts in the distribution of rice!! All these with no extra charge but a big smile on their faces.
After the event, Joe called to thank KSK for giving him and his team a chance to help and he asked us to please include them in any future events that equire they services.
Thank you JOE, We LOVE you!!
Very nice to see that KSK has spread it wings of kindness to Bentong and those Orang Asli there.
Orang Asli is truly a minority group in Malaysia. Their presence and voice are usually dismissed. I believe this round of rice distribution ease off quite a bit of burden off their shoulders and hence give them much happiness and warmth.
Nice to have see the presence of Dato Sri Liow Tiong Lai as well here….
KSK truly has gone a long way…
Dear Rinpoche,
Thanks for sharing this with us. How wonderful! How inspirational!
Kecharians touch so many lives in so many beautiful ways everyday.
I salute Dato’ Ruby and all Kechara volunteers who contributed their time and effort, and also Dato’ Sri Liow and the Malaysian Ministry of Health for having such a big heart!
I’d really like to know more about the Kechara Food Bank.
