Ian Wright volunteers for KSK!
Internationally-acclaimed TV personality, Ian Wright was in KL recently for a visit and shooting stint for his new show called “Invite Mr. Wright”. Ian is most recognizable for being a host of the popular travel show Globe Trekker..He has been traveling across continents looking for interesting content to shoot.
During his stay in Kuala Lumpur, he was hosted by local comedian Joanne Kam who showed him around the city. Prior to Ian’s arrival, Joanna Kam mentioned Kechara Soup Kitchen (KSK)..he immediately responded expressing how he wanted it as one of the highlights of his show! Before appearing on the screen, Ian has had experience running a community centre with his wife back in London. I guess that it was only natural for him to think that KSK will be a meaningful cause to feature. How amazing of him..
Ian, together with Joanne, came to volunteer for KSK on 1st Sept. It is also the first day KSK started operating from its own building! With the help of the other volunteers, Ian packed the food before distributing out to the clients at our new KSK building. After doing that, he headed out to the streets to continue distributing food. Not only did he distribute, but he spoke to a few clients in the process.
He was impressed with KSK and hoped that with his show he will be able to help promote KSK and inspire more people to come forward to lend a helping hand.
I’m really happy to hear how someone of his calibre has taken an interest in a cause that really helps the homeless and urban poor of Malaysia. My students told me how he used to play an active role in many after-school programs for children, how he is also known for his works as a painter…and that he’s a vegetarian! I heard that he even has his own blog…hehe He seems to be a good guy who’s talented at many things besides being a traveling host!
May I express my thanks to Mr Ian Wright. Many, many people will benefit because you have taken the time and interest in KSK.
Thank you, Joanne Kam as well, for suggested KSK in the first place.

Haha, Shirley – KSK features Ian Wright, of course!
I’m glad to see such big celebrities supporting a Malaysian soup kitchen! Ian Wright is known to be someone who’s very into helping the local community, and he even started his own community center with his wife back in England.
I guess good attracts good, and like-minded people attract like-minded people!
I have watch Ian Wrights on TV for many of his travel shows. I like him because he is witty, and I’m sure he has a lot of fans around the world. With his popular show which is shown around the world, I am glad Kechara’s Soup Kitchen is featured as part of the program.
Kechara’s Soup Kitchen, under the current leadership of Dato Ruby Khong has grown many folds in a short span of time, and benefiting the community.
What I like about Kechara’s Soup Kitchen is that it is not just giving food, but the jobs after the food is given, such as providing medical treatments, providing jobs etc.
I hope KSK can grow even bigger and more celerities to join KSK activities to educate even more people about this very special and meaningful community work.
One of my favourite TV personalities! You know, for Ian to feature KSK on his programme which is watched by so many people around the world, it must mean that KSK is doing sincere work because Ian wouldn’t want to use his show to publicise or represent any cause that wasn’t genuine!
Knowing you Joanne I can definitely say you have a good heart and compassion. Thank you for promoting Kechara Organisation through KSK.You have been a long time student of Rinpoche. Your relationship with Rinpoche is very different from that of the other students. Although you never attend our Dharma talks or pujas. You still have your own way of supporting Rinpoche and Kechara and Dharma. You have introduced Ian Wright a traveling TV host to KSK that is one of the departments of Kechara. On 1st September Joanne Kam brought Ian Wright to KSK new building when KSK opened its doors for the 1st time. Ian and Joanne were hands on distributing food packets to the homeless just like all the other volunteers. Ian was very impressed by what KSK is doing and says he will help promote KSK through his shows. I hope he can influence more volunteers to help KSK. Even the producer of his shows is interested in KSK. And Ian is also a vegetarian.
This is really such great news!
Ian Wright features KSK, or KSK features Ian Wright – either way it is the cause that wins and that is the message of helping the homeless.
I think famous people, in general, should use their fame to support and raise awareness for a cause, or any cause, for that matter. There must be more to being famous than just indulging on oneself.
It is encouraging to learn that Ian has adopted an Orang Utan and had even ran a community centre in London with his wife.
What an interesting guy! he is not just quirky and funny – he has a heart of gold too.
Thank you for sharing your “stage” with KSK, Mr. Wright!
