Is Dato Ruby the Greatest Woman of Our Time?
Every year, Women’s Weekly holds an event called the Great Women of Our Time Awards. The awards highlight Malaysian women who displays leadership, excellence and performance. The judges and event organizers aim to show to the public how these women really excel in what they do – they are the women of tomorrow!
Last year (2010) there are 18 women who have been nominated for the award. There are 6 categories in the event: Finance & Commerce, Arts & Media, Design & Style, Education & Public Service, Science & Technology, Health and Sports & Wellness. Readers of the magazine and the open public are able to vote for whoever they want via SMS.
This year, my long-time student and friend Dato Ruby Khong has been nominated in the “Education & Public Service” category! This is in recognition of her work as President of Kechara Soup Kitchen! One of our 13 Depts of Kechara. Since I asked her to take over Kechara Soup Kitchen and be it’s head a few years back, she has given her all to make this dept grow and benefit so many. I am indeed proud of her and to show how spiritual foundations can reach us deep within ourselves and in turn touch many people’s lives. Ruby is a very devoted and sincere member of Kechara and I am proud of her hard dedication towards this dept.
Ruby has worked very, very hard to make Kechara Soup Kitchen what it is today by sheer willpower, perseverance and her tremendous faith in Buddha, Dharma and Sangha…beautiful… Every day over 150 people walk in through KSK’s door to receive food, wash their clothes, receive medical aid and consultation. KSK not only distributes food, but they help the homeless find jobs, shelter and reconnect back with family members.
On average, about over 1200 homeless and urban poor Malaysians receive dry and wet food every weekend on our rounds. It’s good how Women’s Weekly has recognized how she has benefited the community. It is wonderful the media recognizes when good work is being done.

COngratulations to Dato, she has good guru devotion. I can feel her happy energy and loveliness.
I know Dato Ruby for many years. We almost lost touch with each other until we met again in Kechara. Then we became good friends and even work together in KSK. She is one lady that I always look up to as she always has new things for me to learn. She is so energetic and full enthusiastic when comes to anything to do with Kechara. She is full of ideals and she can think so quick when comes to helping others. Of course, After so many years of well trained by such a high lama H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche, our spiritual guide, she is highly alert and sharp. She is a very firm person yet she has a very kind heart. She always think for the best solution for us where she always think for long term benefits. I can’t say enough of her good. I feel fortunate to have her in my life. Thank you Dato Ruby for being my dharma sister.
So many wonderful women of our time! Gone are the days when women in most part of the world were treated as second class citizen (although in some countries, sadly, still are)!
Advertisements were made with women in mind, as they are recognized as the decision-maker when it comes to purchasing! Girl power!
We are proud to have our KSK president to be amongst the most successful women in Malaysia.
