Won 2 Awards!
Now this is a post I really enjoy sharing with everyone. We all know Kechara Soup Kitchen has done amazing work due to the combined efforts of so many gracious people. This award is a message that the efforts of these people are highly appreciated by others. I feel humbled and proud too. I would like to especially congratulate very hardworking Mr. Justin Cheah who really gives it his all to serve the homeless in many ways besides offering food. I am so happy his work within Kechara is recognized as he really deserves it. Justin does not ask anything of his job except the satisfaction of serving the public. I am so glad he has been recognized although he seeks no recognition.
Kechara won 2 awards at the Iskandar Malaysia Social Hero Awards (IMSHA) 2014!

Justin Cheah (Project Director of Kechara Soup Kitchen) received the Iskandar Malaysia Social Hero Award 2014 and Kechara Soup Kitchen won the ‘Poverty & Hunger Relief‘ Hero Organization award! This was given in recognition for the humanitarian works done by KSK Johor Bahru which started in 2011. How wonderful…
This inaugural event was held in La Grandeur Palm Resort, Johor and graced by our former Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Tun Abdullah bin Haji Ahmad Badawi and the Johor Menteri Besar (Chief Minister), Datuk Seri Mohamed Hj. Khaled Nordin.
Over 400 NGOs and 170 individuals were shortlisted for this event. Each nomination was studied and analysed by the judges before the winner for each category were selected.
Malaysia is truly a wonderful nation for continuously recognizing community work and the kind and hardworking people behind it. The collective effort from an organized NGO, such as KSK, only serves to benefit the Malaysian society. Justin Cheah has been with Kechara for over 6 years, and has from day 1 untiringly and whole-heartedly worked for others. He has gained the respect from the hundreds of volunteers who participates in Kechara Soup Kitchen. They respect his passion, sincerity, selflessness and dependency.

Kechara Soup Kitchen was a charity organisation in Malaysia conceptualised by Tsem Rinpoche 10 years ago. The main objective of this organisation is to serve the homeless community in Malaysia. Over the years, the charitable works Kechara Soup Kitchen is doing has expanded to different areas.
They have a food bank now where they will collect the surplus perishable items from the supermarket to give away to the urban poor community. There is also a program called Zero Food Wastage in collaboration with the Princess of Selangor state to give away the surplus food from hotels during the Ramadhan period to the underprivileged. Every week they also have a team of doctors giving simple diagnosis and treatment to the homeless.
Kechara Soup Kitchen has contributed a lot to the Malaysian society especially in relieving the poverty and hunger. In recognition of their contribution in making Malaysia society a better place, they were awarded the Iskandar Malaysia Social Hero Award 2014 and Kechara Soup Kitchen won the ‘Poverty & Hunger Relief‘ Hero Organization award. Please keep up with the good work!
Congratulations, Justin! Your unswerving duty to serve the disenfranchised, homeless and hungry is an inspiration to many. I remember your kindness and dedication to your misssion to serve the homeless when I volunteered in the early days of KECHARA Soup Kitchen. KSK has many dedicated volunteers who work quietly in the background and no less deserving of the accolades given to KSK. Well deserved recognition for your dedication!
Congratulations Justin and thank you for your love and passion to serve others.
Hope you can continue to inspire and motivate more people to contribute both time and money to help the unfortunate group of people.
A profound teaching given by Rinpoche “In life, it’s not what you take or get or receive, it’s what you give.” As such, the more you help others, the better self you will become.
Wow !

I rejoice that KSK has gotten recognition for all the good work that they are doing. Thank you for the efforts to read al on the street so that they would have food to keep themselves full and not be hungry.
Even when they are at the lowest points in their lives they are still able to fill up their tummies before they regain that confidence and be able to contribute to the community again.

My sincere congratulations to you, Justin, and the KSK team! 🙂
Congratulation Justin & KSK! It’s a great news that your dedication and effort are recognised.
Justin has been working very hard and very humble. He always think about how to help and support the homeless and get them out from the street. I have learned a lot from him especially on how to help others selflessly and without agenda.
KSK is one of the first departments of Kechara that I get involved in and it is also the place that I first met Rinpoche and heard him shared on his vision and why and how he started KSK. From Rinpoche, Dato Ruby & Justin, KSK has grown from KL, to Penang, to JB too!
Great job Justin & KSK! May KSK have all the resources and support you need to grow big and able to benefit more people!
CONGRATULATIONS TO KSK AND JUSTIN CHEAH !!
My family and I are some of the very fortunate volunteers who have worked with Justin and the other very dedicated staff/volunteers of KSK. KSK has benefitted countless of people, both the homeless and the poor, plus volunteers like myself too. Thank you dear Rinpoche for conceptualizing this idea from your very own experience living as a homeless in the USA. Thank you Dato Ruby for working so hard to make it such a great success in helping many.
Justin totally deserves the Social Hero Award; he is a super hero to the homeless and volunteers. His consistency, dedication and understanding towards the needs of the homeless is remarkable. I am always amazed how he can just plonk himself on the pavements to talk to the homeless; this body gesture shows genuine care and removes any fear or intimidation which the homeless might feel. Irrespective of rain or shine, time of the day, lack of sleep/rest etc, super hero Justin would be available. Words alone do not justify his virtues, one must come and work together with him to understand why he IS the Super Social Hero !!
Congratulations to Justin Cheah, you are showing compassion in action! Thank you 🙂
Congratulation Justine Cheah and KSK. You really deserve this award as recognition for years of your hard works.
