My Pictorial Bio book is out
Today, I received 20 copies of The Promise, a pictorial biography of my life newly published by Kechara Media & Publications (KMP). It was offered together with a bouquet of flowers and a card from Sharon, Paris and Fang. All three of them work under the direction of Phng Li Kim (Liaison and CEO of KMP).
One of my teachers insisted on my coming out with an autobiography of my life which I really did not want to… but since my teacher insists, ok… this pictorial book is a smaller version of the more detailed bio coming out.
This book covers my life thus far: from my birth place in Taiwan… to where I grew up in America… to where I became a monk in India… and my current place of residence, Malaysia. Packed with pictures they collected from my personal collections and friends in US, Taiwan, etc…
Sharon, Paris and Fang, together with many others, have worked very hard and very long hours with much research to put this book together. It is an incredibly beautiful and well-put-together book. I really like the book and thank Fang, Paris, Sharon and KMP for doing such a good job….They are REAL PROFESSIONALS!!!!
Do watch the video below produced by Kechara InMotion (KIM), in collaboration with KMP. Even the video they put together is so well done although it’s about silly me…..
Thank you team for your quality work done with care, love and attention to detail. And to launch it on October 24th was very poignant.

A Tsem Rinpoche Biography – THE PROMISE
Letter from Paris (Jamie)
Dear James,
On behalf of KMP, I wish to offer up 20 copies of The Promise, Rinpoche’s pictorial biography, to Rinpoche, together with a flower offering and card from the three of us: Sharon, Jamie and Fang.
The book arrived from the printers this week, but will only be officially released on Monday 24 October, in conjunction with Rinpoche’s birthday. The book has been promoted via social media and of course among members of Kechara. Many members and friends have already begun to place orders for the book, which they can pick up on Monday. KMP has also arranged for full-page adverts in Sin Chew and The Star newspapers on Monday 24 October, for promotion of the book.
If Rinpoche wishes to have more copies of the book, we would be happy to arrange delivery to Ladrang or Haven as Rinpoche requests.
Thank you, James.
Love,
Jamie

“Dear Rinpoche,
On behalf of KMP, we are very honoured and happy to present and offer to Rinpoche “The Promise” – Rinpoche’s pictorial biography. May this book touch many, bring them Dharma and inspire their lives just as Rinpoche has so kindly inspired ours. By our small effort, we dedicate this book that countless others will have the chance to meet Rinpoche, incredible teachings, the 3 Jewels and find tremendous transformation.
With much gratitude,

In August 2015, a few of us travelled to Italy to have an audience with His Eminence Kyabje Gangchen Rinpoche. During the audience, Gangchen Rinpoche reminded us that of the many instructions he has given Tsem Rinpoche over the years, one of those instructions was for Tsem Rinpoche to get his biography done and that the stories in it would be very important. Gangchen Rinpoche said he had been very happy to see the pictorial biography and looked forward to the more extensive work.
Since The Promise was first released (it is currently in its 3rd edition), many people have written in to say that Rinpoche’s story has touched and changed their lives. They say they can identify with the rejection that Rinpoche experienced throughout his life, that they are inspired by Rinpoche’s triumph over difficulties, and that they learn lessons from observing Rinpoche’s application of Dharma to deal with his pains.
Their feedback matches some advice we have receive in more recent times. Another lama of very high ranking advised us that in this day and age, it is not necessary to have a high rank or title to benefit others or to have a positive impact on them. He said that modern people don’t necessarily respond to or are impressed by this; what they DO respond to is results and seeing how someone works to benefit others.
In this way, Rinpoche is a very unique, special combination of someone who IS of a very high rank and incarnation lineage, and yet whose story remains accessible to the everyday person. I liken this to Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche’s skill in teaching complex philosophical concepts using layman’s terms; Rinpoche’s life story teaches Dharma lessons in a manner relevant to laypeople.
I think it is very important for Rinpoche’s students to have a copy of this book, to study it up well and to understand what our lama has experienced throughout his life. On understanding this, gratitude for his kindness develops easily. On understanding this, we also see how when we go through similar experiences, how we respond to it is our choice. Do we use our experiences as a reason to cause pain to others, thus creating more karma for us to experience it again in the future…or do we use our experiences as a reason to take pain away from others, knowing first-hand how much they are suffering?

This may seem like “old news” now that the 2nd edition is already out. However the topic at hand is always current. It is how Rinpoche stuck to a promise come what may. And the promise was not even for a selfish reason but for one that far surpasses our selfish needs… One that transcends even our wildest dreams… our liberation from our suffering. Thank you Rinpoche and thank you KMP!

This book is the Jewel of KMP as it describes pictorially Rinpoche’s life and all that he has gone through. Many of the early photos of Rinpoche shows him with a smile that is poignant because it belies all that he has suffered for the sake of his wish to be a monk and pursue a life of spirituality.
This is truly a remarkable book and I would never tire in flipping through the book to see the beautiful pictures. I have learnt that there is new edition to this book where new information of Rinpoche’s previous life that was told to us by students of Rinpoche’s previous life. This is a must read and must have. No self – respecting Kecharian should be without this book.
The biography of Rinpoche The Promise is awesomely done, there is alot of unseen photo by Rinpoche, and every moment from the birth and journey of Rinpoche is captured in still images, and every moments is like a story line of awakening for anyone who read this book. It was nicely done, congrats to KMP for such a great compilation of this biography of The Promise.
its quite true when this sentence goes: Pictures speaks a thousand words. To me its more than words, it compassion in action.
I do hope many other biographies of Rinpoche will emerge to highlight the different aspects of his life. And may all the difficulties that Rinpoche went through inspire people to spirituality and to seek the truth. Knowing that the search for the truth is really worth it.
