I was informed Lili was making it for me and she made three attempts in one day before she got it to her satisfaction. On the fourth try, it came out as she wanted it and offered it to me. It is totally natural and organic. I had some and it is delicious. I love organics. I offered some of the bread on my shrine for Lili. How kind of her to make such an effort. I am very appreciative of this. I really appreciate it very much. She is so talented in so many ways.
I know Kechara can be such a wonderful place for her to express her talents to benefit so many as it is for many people who have joined.
I thank you so much Lili.

People may wonder why Rinpoche dedicates a whole blog post to a loaf of bread, but it’s always much more than just the bread. It’s always about the sincerity with which the offering is made, and the motivation of the person making the offering. You know, we offer so much to ourselves and the temple of our bodies. We offer the best foods, the best clothes, the best lotions and potions and ointments.
And yet, all our bodies do is betray us. It smells, stinks and rots. It breaks down and gets injured. It falls sick and needs treatment. Regardless of what a good friend we are to our bodies, and how much time we spend on it, our bodies don’t give us back the same amount that we put into it.
Would we put up with such a low return on investment for any other aspect of our lives? So why do we tolerate it when it comes to our bodies? So sometimes, it’s good to break out of that habit and offer the best to someone else instead. And that’s what making an offering to our gurus is about, breaking the habit of being generous only to ourselves and instead learning to focus out and onto others. Even if we aren’t religious, look – it only helps us and benefits our mental development to nurture the generosity seed within us. After all, serving and being generous to our bodies got us nowhere!
What struck me about this story is that Lili made the effort to bake the bread three times before it was good enough to offer to Rinpoche. Many people would just buy a loaf of bread and offer, not that there’s anything wrong with that, but it’s great that she put in the extra effort, bearing in mind that Rinpoche likes organic food. I’m happy that Lili made an offering for Rinpoche from her heart.
This is a great example of someone using their talents to make merits – Lili can bake, so she bakes to make an offering to Rinpoche. She can also paint and sculpt, so she works in Kechara Saraswati Arts. It’s exactly what Rinpoche envisioned for the 13 departments, to set up many ways for people to make merits using what they are already good or interested in. In Tibetan Buddhist terms, this is known as skilful means where the lama utilises any methods to bring the people to Dharma and to teach them the Dharma.
Lily its super of you and your efforts to offer delicious food to Rinpoche, and to offer clean, nice organic food to him as well. Thank you for showing a nice example to us all 🙂
Lili is truly talented. From repairing Zong Rinpoche statue, making Amitabah statue from clay to baking! Due to her love for Rinpoche, she patiently tried many times to make sure the bread is perfect before she offered to Rinpoche and I am sure it taste as good as it looks in foil.
Lili is truly multi talented!
Such patience and perseverance to get the bread right before presenting to Rinpoche. How wonderful!
Yes, Lili is another living and walking testament that Rinpoche’s brand of Dharma does transform within and without. She has used her talents to do so much good and that will go a long way to helping many people’s lives, not just hers.
I am so impressed with the whole recipe just by looking at it. Wish we could have an actual picture of the bread itself and not wrapped up in foil. Haha. I am sure it tastes great as Lili puts her heart in doing her craft.
It is a real pleasure to have Lili as a friend and a Kecharian. People like her and many others in Kechara are a real asset to Dharma and humanity.
It is very heartening and absolutely inspiring to watch wonderful people like Lili, using their talents for good – so wise of her; NOT WASTING the PRECIOUS HUMAN LIFE!
I am not surprised Lily has made a loaf of Organic bread specially for Rinpoche after the fourth try of baking. Because she is confident that she will get it right in the end. She is so talented in so many things. In paintings, in sculpturing, in creating acessories for ladies like making earrings to cooking etc. During my volunteer days with Kechara Saraswati Artsa or KSA. She will bring and treat us with her home cooking of western cooking and eastern cooking or blending the two cultures together. She will not give up until she gets the food right for taste. And always turns out to be very good. The point and lesson here is she is trying to tell us is never say you will fail. When you fail you try again and you will succeed.
