Nicole Lee’s Drawings
Nicole Lee is the 8 year old daughter of Any Loke and Bean Lee. She’s a very active girl whose parents are themselves active members of Kechara House. She follows her parents 2-3 times a week to help clean the gompa and help set-up for pujas. Although people could see her as just a little girl tagging along…she’s always the one begging her parents to let her stay longer when they want to go home!!
Most of you might be a little surprised, but this 8 year old is a regular attendee of the weekly pujas in Kechara House…like the Setrap, Medicine Buddha and Dzambala puja…She can even memorize quite a few mantras and the 100-syllable Vajrasattva mantra!
Not only can she recite, but she can also do serkym offerings (black tea offerings) very well according to other puja attendees!
No one forces her to do it, she wants and likes to be part of the prayer and not just be part of an audience. Good for her!
Below is the card that she drew for me for Chinese New Year! What a sweet girl who was creative enough to also draw my Mumu darling into her card…Thank you! I have attached a photo of her (top right, click to enlarge) receiving her “Best Lantern Design” prize during Wesak Day Fair from Henry Ooi (Vice-President of Kechara House). I guess Kecharians are noticing her drawing skills too!

“Gong Xi Fa Cai” is a Chinese New Year greeting, meaning: Happy increase of wealth! (“Gong Xi” means wishing/blessing, “Fa” means enlarge(ment) and “Cai” means wealth).
Thank you Nicole so much for your wonderful artwork….I appreciate it so much..

MKC is really benefitting children from very young age. A very good example we can see is in Nicole Lee who is the only daughter of Any and Bean. Nicole is very lucky that her parents are very interested in Kechara House. When Any and Bean came into KH2 only Any was interested in the activities and Dharma. Then we encouraged Bean to come for Setrap pujas and all other pujas. At first only Any will come but later followed by Bean bringing their daughter Nicole. Bean at that time had long hair looking like a hippie guy. And within a very short time the family of three had been transformed and today Any, Bean are full vegetarian now and Bean has cut off his long hair and very clean cut now. Although they have not taken Refuge with Rinpoche yet. They are very devoted to Kechara House activities and pujas. So Nicole has been benefitted because of her parents.
What a wonderful offering. How nice that such a young girl can even think to draw this as a gift to Rinpoche, at an age when most kids are usually just preoccupied with themselves, Pixar movies, computer games (and all other things created nowadays to make kids even more selfish and self-absorbed).
I do think the MKC (manjushri kids class) has a profound effect on opening the minds of children to something beyond just games, play and toys. It’s nice to see how these children are putting what they learn into action. Well done Nicole 🙂 (http://www.kechara.com/kechara-house/education/kids/)
So uplifting to see this page! Her drawings, her smile and personality just warms you up! And yes, her love is infectious too… especially her love for Rinpoche & Mu Mu!
Nicole is spontaneous, fun and very creative. She is expressive and loves drawing and arts & crafts. It is a joy to be able to spend time with her ( plus her parents of course! ) and you get to learn, discover things that light up that special bulb in your brain and heart.
Sometimes you even get those profound one-liners, questions from this lovable girl – that make you think ( really contemplate ) be it in or out of class. Now that makes one buck up even more!
Even at her young age she inspires people around with her love, kindness, patience, efforts – to learn the Dharma, Pujas, Mantras; to sit still and remain focus; plus helpfulness and mindfulness as picked up from her parents Any and Bean who are always volunteering and helping at Kechara House.
And her aspirations as I have learnt ( if I am not mistaken ) is to work for Kechara (KSA) when she grows up! She is already thinking how to benefit people… how beautiful is that?

Nicole is really a very nice little girl who’s very help in any ways. She wished so much that she could get to play with mumu.
I’m really happy that she’s involved in dharma at such a young age, how lucky!
This is so artistic and thoughtful of Nicole! Such a good girl, sweet too (:
