How nice it is to see Dr Chong and Dr Ming’s names here! We’ve missed them since they’ve gone to Ipoh as they were becoming a well-loved and regular presence and family around the centre. Dr Chong also provided quite a lot of medical assistance to friends around the centre; I remember him rushing to the aid of one of the ladies who had quite a serious medical attack when we were in the middle of Kathmandu, in the middle of the night. He stayed with her throughout the evening, and was back at the hospital in the early to ensure she got the right medicines and was okay.
It’s always quite inspiring to see doctors in a Dharma centre because their very profession is about helping others and relieving their physical suffering. It’s really interesting to talk to them about Dharma because they usually are already coming from a basis of wanting to help others.
Though they’re now in Ipoh, Dr Chong and Dr Ming have been quite central in helping to set up another study group there. This has been growing pretty steadily over the past few years and they’ve even been the first group to to start with the recycling initiative. It’s certainly very inspiring to hear that although they’re far away, they’re still connected to us by their efforts to promote and share Dharma with others where they are… as well as to continue their own noble work in the hospitals.
Come back to visit us in KL some time, we do miss you!
Dr Chong and Dr Ming are very sincere students of Rinpoche and they are both very highly skilled and respected doctors in their field. They have given quite a number of Kecharians treatments and refuse to charge them for money. He is generous and very sincere as if he has practiced Dharma for many lifetimes and he’s just resuming it in this life.
What is nice is that they are practicing the 50 verses of Guru devotion by giving statues and books, to give offerings to your Guru is better than making offerings to all the Buddhas. Simply, because the Guru is the person that has benefited us the most and will make sure that even our gifts benefit others in the most profound way.
