Young stars Paris and David on a National Breakfast Show!!!
Our very own KMP young writers Jamie Khoo (Paris) and David Lai were featured on the NTV7 Breakfast Show with celebrity hosts, Daphne Iking and Nazrudin Rahman (Naz).
Both hosts struck up a great conversation with Jamie and David, asking just the right questions to reach out to today’s modern audiences about the relevance of spirituality in the world today.
Our young writers were very good on the this interview. I am very proud of them…please watch this ten minute video. David has been with me for around 7 years already and Paris around 6 years. They are talented young writers and great dharma teachers too. Their books are gaining more and more popularity. I have heard many times that people say their books give so much more insight into their relationships with their spirituality. And it has helped many people with their own journeys. How beautiful!!!
David will be a young Buddhist Pastor later.

A Star-Studded Breakfast
Looks like our very own starlets, David Lai and Jamie “Paris” Khoo are gaining more and more fame in the city! This Monday, they were interviewed live on the NTV7 Breakfast Show.
On air for a full 12 minutes, David and Paris had the opportunity to talk about what life was like before they stepped onto a spiritual path and how Dharma has made a difference to their lives. The interview was centred largely around their books, Call Me Paris by Paris and There’s No Way But Up by David, and what makes them so different from other young people.
Celebrity hosts, Daphne Iking and Nazrudin Rahman (Naz), struck up a great conversation with both of them, asking just the right questions to bring out the best of David and Paris and give them good opportunities to talk about the extensive work of Kechara and H.E. Tsem Rinpoche.
Naz and Daphne also highly recommended the two books to their audience so David and Paris have been very well promoted live to the whole nation! Look out for more stories of stardom soon from our very own Kechara celebrities. In the meantime, follow their personal journeys on their blogs at www.davidlai.me/ and http://theeffortlessbeauty.com
Nice write up with pics to share with everyone…

Wow. The interview is too short. Haha 🙂 Also the radio interview is very enlightening, very practical Dharma for everyday man and woman on the street.
What a great idea YS. Imagine the audience we could reach with that! And I do agree with you 100% that they looked very confident and natural! In fact they looked and acted very much like themselves! Which is important as that is how people that know them can relate to and those that dont will be able to see the sincerity in it too.
How amazing to have these amazing shining stars in Kechara! Each of us can be just this if we put our minds to it. Let us Kecharians be a galaxy or universe of stars to light the way for people to Dharma!
David, Jamie you guys are ‘au naturale’. You could have been at a regular Sunday Manjushri Class, even with all those big camera’s pointing at you, there was no difference.
You guys should film an “Introduction to Buddhism” video. That would be awesome.
But it’s not all about the fame! Yes it is!! Haha… Finally you surrendered David and you trusted Rinpoche and look how it all turns out. I am very proud of you two, since the day I met David, I thought what funny guy who has so much passion for Buddhas. And Paris, you’ve always had that Star quality being a huge chicken that doesn’t stop talking and asking all those journalistic questions to Rinpoche when all of wanted to kill you cos it’s like 6am and we all wanna go home!!! LOL! You guys really prove to all the samsaric friends of ours that it ain’t bad and DHARMA IS LIFE! The message you sent out to so many young professionals is that hey you can be who you are, and still do Dharma and it is rewarding. And that it is not tomorrow but now, start now cos half your life is already gone and wasted. You guys stuck in thru thick and thin, good and bad times and I admire your tenacity and your sincerity. You guys ROCK!
These two young ones are just incredible and arent we proud of them and all the hardworking Kechara members! With such strong Guru devotion to Rinpoche, no wonder they are everywhere you turn your head to look. They both wrote a book each with amazing stories about themselves, had book club meetings and now they are on National television. And they are really friendly in person, hardworking, always smiling and helping out in whatever they can. Not only having commitments to Kechara Media & Publications full time, they are also the youngest Liaisons to Rinpoche, helping to promote Kechara and Rinpoche whenever, wherever! Read more about them here(http://www.kechara.com/rinpoche/liaisons/meet-the-liaisons/).
What can you say about David & Jamie- they’ve been there, done that and now they’ve settled down to doing far more. Cool! They are a fun bunch and quite opposites of each other in certain areas and completely alike in others. Working with them is like a roller coaster, you want to laugh and scream at the same time. No! I’m kidding, they are not a headache at all. They are very responsible and with all that’s on their plate they still have 110% commitment to Kechara Media & its publications. We are all so proud of their achievements. They have a great journey ahead of them and I wish them the best.
It’s inspiring for people who are younger than Paris and David when they first join Kechara. Some people think that Dharma teachers are only old, wise-looking and probably retired. Take a look at Paris and David! Young, funky, exciting and good looking 🙂
I think that they fill in the gap between the old and the totties in KH quite well. They’re knowledgeable and if younger people get inspired, they would be the reason why there will be more Dharma teachers in the future. How wonderful! May KWPC be filled with hip, young Dharma teacher’s! Pavara & Jutika (http://blog.tsemtulku.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/2010/07/pavara-wants-to-be-a-liaison.html) would make a good Dzambala & Setrap-focused Dharma teacher 🙂
Who and what Paris and David are today is a reflection of our Rinpoche. Rinpoche showered tremendous amount of time, effort, finance, care and love on these 2 young people. They are extremely fortunate young people going the right direction under the guidance of Rinpoche. They can and will inspire other younger generation to Dharma and benefit them in turn. I would say their are our future in Dharma work which will extend to Kechara World Peace Centre. I would say that are worth Rinpoche’s investment… ha… ha…
Paris and David’s book are available both in Kechara Paradise http://www.kechara.com/kp and Kechara Media and Publication http://www.kechara.com/kmp
Terima Kasih Rinpoche!
These 2 stars of KMP and Kechara deserve all respect and accolades!
Their hard work and persistence have paid off but most of all, having gone through their 2 signature books, and compared to who and what they are now, great milestones have been attained thanks to the ever guiding and patient Rinpoche.
I sometimes think what would have happened if they had gone to other Dharma centres, would something so life changing have occurred?
But I guess their causes and conditions have brought them to Rinpoche’s lap and the rest is history…
Syabas! and Sadhu! to both of our Dharma stars! Kechara’s stars!
Two young budding writers from KMP appearing on National Television. Your parents must be very proud of you! Both David and Paris will set the path and be the pioneers in promoting buddhism to the younger generation particularly in this region. I remembered both of them admitted that they were spoiled brats, waching DVDs, partying around and weren’t doing much in their lives until they met Rinpoche.
It is the phobia of most parents to see that their children never grow up. I truely see the power of Dharma here in both of them. The transformation from being two spoiled brats into two mature, responsible caring adults, the Dharma imparted onto them by Rinpoche has worked wonder!
David and Paris, congratulations to both of you. May you continue to inspire the young and the reckless and bring Dharma close to them.
thank you so much to Paris n David.they took the 1st step n will lead more youngsters to the path to enlightenment n Dharma…
Dear Rinpoche and everyone who has been so kind to post these comments,
We got in front of the cameras and lights, but it would never have been possible without all of Rinpoche’s kindness and belief in us, and the amazing Kechara family who kept us going and help to bring us up. Our books were outwardly about ourselves, but actually, they were about experiences in Dharma that I believe are a part of every Kecharian! (the history, the “training”, the ups, the downs, the funnies).
The books are also about how a spiritual path can be a part of anyone’s life, no matter where you come from or what you’re doing. They are about overcoming your fears and limitations and the teacher’s tireless efforts to awaken the best potential in his students.
And most of all, it is about all the best lessons that we have learnt in Dharma through the extraordinary example of our own teacher: kindness, compassion and deep, passionate tenacity. Thank you Rinpoche.
The “lights, camera, action” were fun, but like I said in my book, Dharma presents a different sort of style and a way of living that is truly glamourous and the most fulfilling.
Having watched Jamie and David from early on in their Dharma path, I can tell you that to see them on national television promoting their books is soo inspiring. Congratlutations both of you, you guys ROCK!
Really, honestly, I am soo happy for you! You went through all the “training”, or teachings and come out the other side looking like this, what more could you ask for. A close relationship with your Guru, precious teachings taken to heart and practiced sincerely brings about this change in you. I hope you guys know what an example your are to many, not just here in Malaysia but soon to be all around the world. See what happens when your books start filtering out into the world.
The depressed teenager, the battered wife, the over achievers, the under achievers, the housewife, the executive, the wallstreet trader. You never know who’s going to pick up your books next, and what they will take out of them.
Thank you Rinpoche for seeing the potential in them, the nurturing and teaching that makes them who they are today.
Both Paris and David are really doing a great job in promoting dharma. Their books ‘Call Me Paris’ (http://www.kechara.com/publications/publications/biography-series/call-me-paris/) and ‘ There’s No Way But Up’ (http://www.kechara.com/publications/publications/biography-series/theres-no-way-but-up/) had touched the lives of readers, stirred up their curiosity in wanting to know more about Rinpoche and Kechara and most of all, DHARMA.
Being the only child of their parents, one might think they are spoilt brats. Well, both our celebrities are totally opposite! They spend hours sitting behind their laptops transcribing Rinpoche’s dharma talks; participate in meetings planning for the growth of the whole organization, share dharma with members and friends etc. Every seconds and minutes of their time is spent on benefiting other. An excellent example for others to emulate!
Both their parents are extremely proud of their achievement and this is clearly showed in their faces and eyes! What better to repay the kindness of our parents by benefiting others!
Well done, Paris and David!
David and Jamie aka Paris are two of the younger Liaisons to Tsem Rinpoche.
Both are single child to their doting parents. In Malaysia, where the mass awareness of Buddhism as a career is still at its infant stage, their dharma career met with some resistance from the families initially.
However, after seeing the transformations in their children and having understood how meaningful is their career, the parents gave them their whole hearted support.
I know Uncle Lai, David’s father, quite well as we served in KH Work Comm for the past 2 years. Uncle Lai is a very honest and straight forward person. Like most men of his generation, he rarely shows his emotions outwardly. When David’s book “No Way But Up” came out, Uncle Lai was so proud of David’s work he literally caressed the book with joy.
Keep up the good work kidos !
I have known Paris since the day she walked in to Kechara. What a bright young lady who has progressed from being Paris to a responsible Jamie Khoo!
Through Paris and David, many more young people will be influenced to Dharma. May more young people come to Dharma now and may world peace grow!
Yaay for David and Paris! I’m so proud to know them, and call them my friends. They have really grown since meeting Rinpoche, and are a wonderful testament to the benefit that Rinpoche and Dharma can bring to everyone…and you don’t have to change who you are to be spiritual!
