An Auspicious Omen in Kechara Forest Retreat
Recently, several mushrooms were found sprouting in the private garden of H.E. Tsem Rinpoche in Kechara Forest Retreat. Phenomena like these are considered to be highly auspicious and they indicate the arrival of good news or that something good will happen soon. Tibetans believe mushrooms growing spontaneously is a harbinger of good news and activities.
The mushrooms grew spontaneously, and no one planted them or did anything at all. They grew out of the blue, and they have been increasing in size for the past few days. The mushrooms are as tall as one’s hand and quite big in size. Some of them are as big as one’s palm! They are growing right next to Tsem Rinpoche’s window where he sits to do his mantras daily. Nowhere else in Kechara Forest Retreat are mushrooms growing as far as we know. This has happened many times wherever Tsem Rinpoche resides.
In Tibetan culture, these signs are considered to be highly auspicious, and they represent the Dharma will grow very fast in the near future. Eminent and seniors monks from Gaden Monastery also said that if a mushroom springs forth from a statue, near or in a temple, or a lama’s residence, it is a very good, auspicious omen of growth and success.
In the past, mushrooms and Bodhi trees were found sprouting in Tsem Rinpoche’s residences. The sprouting of Bodhi trees is considered to be a good omen especially in Buddhism, wherein the Bodhi tree is held in high esteem. The Bodhi tree’s association with Buddhism and enlightenment can be traced back to the historical Buddha Shakyamuni. The Buddha achieved enlightenment when he was meditating under a Bodhi tree in Bodhgaya, India, which gave the tree a sacred and symbolic significance ever since for all Buddhists around the world.
Many Buddhist temples and centres will import Bodhi trees to be planted on their grounds around the world in remembrance of Buddha’s enlightenment. However, Bodhi trees will spontaneously sprout right outside Tsem Rinpoche’s window area and some grow tall very fast. This has been observed many times by senior students around Tsem Rinpoche. It amazes newcomers because why do these trees sprout as saplings on their own and grow into trees wherever Tsem Rinpoche lives, they always ask.
As Bodhi tree is not native to Malaysia, there is no reason for them to grow spontaneously and so frequently here and, at the same time, always so close to Tsem Rinpoche. According to the Tibetans, it is said that Bodhi trees will manifest where holy beings reside or where holy activities are being conducted. Bodhi trees have spontaneously grown in four of the past residences where Tsem Rinpoche resided. Some of them grew from under the cement walk, turning into small saplings and breaking through the cement to keep growing. These Bodhi trees have already been transplanted into pots and kept at Kechara Forest Retreat land. Some have been planted on the land to continue growing. People are quite surprised we have so many Bodhi Trees growing on our land.
Here are more pictures of the mushrooms that sprouted recently next to Tsem Rinpoche’s window where he sits to do his mantras daily
In the past, there were similar incidents of mushrooms and Bodhi trees sprouting spontaneously near Rinpoche. Below are just some of the examples to share with you.

How wonderful and very auspicious for mushrooms and Bodhi Trees to grow around H.E. Tsem Rinpoche’s residences. A great sign that Dharma will continue to grow and spread in the area. Very great omens for Kechara Forest Retreat! 🙂
Thank you, Your Eminence Tsem Rinpoche, Pastors, Blog Team, etc. for the immense work you all do to bring the Dharma to the world! Many blessings to you all.
It’s amazing to see mushroom sprouting from a Buddha statue. We are fortunate to be able to see this picture. May Rinpoche’s wish continue to flourish, dharma continue to grow and spread to all directions.
It’s indeed a great sign. As far as I can remember anywhere Rinpoche goes there will be Bodhi tree grows and mushroom sprouted. If you are not familiar, it’s really an odd incident to experience as it grows out from nowhere and it just there. For the Bodhi tree, it even grows and breaks the cement floor. It’s really amazing. I believe all this for a reason and definitely a sign for us as Kecharian.
I have seen mushrooms growing on the ground all around H.E. Tsem Rinpoche’s former cabin in Kechara Forest Retreat. That happened a few years ago. The mushrooms were small and there were many of them. Also, when I was staying with two Dharma sisters in an apartment in Petaling Jaya about 8 years ago, three bodhi trees grew from the cracks along the sides of the balcony, two on one side of the door and one on the other side. Our apartment was on the 15th floor! Why would bodhi trees sprout at such a height and from tiny cracks along the side of the balcony wall? The only reason I could think of was the “throne” we had set up for Rinpoche which was placed by the side of the wall next to the balcony. So, my conclusion is, a high lama does not need to be physically living in a particular place for auspicious signs to occur. All it needs is his holy blessing!
I have heard people telling me whenever there is a holy being, there will be signs such as mushrooms and Bodhi trees growing spontaneously. These mushrooms in the pictures are big and tall compared to those grew in the past. Perhaps it is an indication that Tsem Rinpoche’s Dharma work has flourished even more!
It is true that Tsem Rinpoche’s Dharma work has flourished in the past 20 years. Kechara Organisation started in 2000. At that time Tsem Rinpoche used to give teachings to people in students’ houses. After 20 years, Kechara is now located in Bentong in a 35 acres land. It is now the most important site for Dorje Shugden practitioners in the world because Kechara is the only organisation that provides the most comprehensive information on Dorje Shugden practice.
I personally have benefitted from Tsem Rinpoche and Kechara Organisation. If it was not because of the information they have provided on the internet on Dorje Shugden, I would not have known about this practice which leads me to practice the Dharma. Even though I do not go to their center but I am still able to do the practice at home according to the instructions kindly shared by Tsem Rinpoche on the website. If I have any question, I can write to ask Kechara pastors and they are always available to answer my questions. I would like to thank Tsem Rinpoche and all the people in Kechara who are working so hard. May Tsem Rinpoche stay healthy and continue to turn the wheel of Dharma.
It’s really wonderful to see so many beautiful and cute mushrooms suddenly sprouting out around Tsem Ladrang.?Hope to hear more auspicious omen of growth and success in Kechara Forest Retreat in the near future.?May all Rinpoche’s works in Kechara Forest Retreat manifest swiftly and spread to all directions.??☘️????
Kechara Forest Retreat is a holy land which H.E. Tsem Rinpoche has created for Malaysians and international guests to go seek blessings from Protector Dorje Shugden and to seek peace of mind, just an hour away from bustling Kuala Lumpur.
It is not a surprise to see and witness such auspicious omen in Kechara Forest Retreat. Many of my guests who have visited have found grounding and bearing to their spiritual path.
May the Dharma and propagation of Dorje Shugden grow exponentially to benefit many sentient beings.
If a small tiny plants or mushroom appeared from nowhere, its definitely a good omen recording to Tibetan culture. It could be something good or activities might happen or coming to us. Well this is not the first time after all tiny plant had appeared where our Guru resides , witnessed by many at kechara forest Retreat. It is a very good, auspicious omen of growth and success. A good news indeed. May all Rinpoche works manifest swiftly and spread to the ten direction. May Kechara Forest Retreat grow in size with more people coming to pay homage to the Dharma protector Dorje Shugden , have great wisdom and never be separated from Dharma.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.
The first thought that came to my mind was ~ Wow! It’s so big and tall! It’s nice too. Look at the pictures (especially with the hand as comparison). Unbelievable. The growth of Dharma must be massive in future then! I do hope so ?
The very purpose for a Lama to stay with us here is to disseminate Dharma and making sure Dharma will stay for a very long time. By turning the Dharma Wheel, many sentient beings (not only human) will be able to hear, practice & progress in Dharma (even a little at a time) and eventually be liberated. From there, it will give birth to lineage holders as well. I hope Rinpoche will be happy to see this positive sign.
As for us, the followers, we should try our best to practice whatever we know and at least to hold our basic vows well. That will at least making sure that the efforts that Rinpoche (and many other Lamas too) has put in will not go to waste. A Lama will be most happy seeing that His students progressing well, even if it takes time to see the differences. May Rinpoche always be happy ?
