Brahma – The Hindu God of Creation
Brahma (Main figure)
(Top to bottom): Brahma and Dorje Shugden
Deity: Brahma
Alternative name: Tsangpa (Tibetan)
Brahma is the Hindu god of creation and hence, he is the first god in the triumvirate or Trimurti. The Trimurti consists of Brahma, the creator; Vishnu, the preserver; and Shiva, the destroyer. In Hindu cosmology, these three gods represent the divine forces of creation, preservation and destruction in the universe. Brahma’s role is the creation of this world and all the creatures that inhabit it. Brahma uniquely has four faces which are believed to represent the four Vedas, the earliest and more important of Hindu scriptures. He also has four arms and is usually depicted with a beard. Brahma’s consort is Saraswati, the Goddess of Knowledge.
Deity: Dorje Shugden (Tibetan)
Alternative name: Vajra Rudra (Sanskrit)
Dorje Shugden is an emanation of the Buddha of Wisdom, Manjushri. He took the form of a Dharma Protector in order to safeguard the Buddha’s teachings, especially the important teachings on the Middle Way View. Reminiscent of Manjushri’s form, Dorje Shugden carries a meandering sword and rides a snowlion that represents the fearlessness of a fully enlightened Buddha. Furthermore, he carries a jewel-spitting mongoose and a vajra hook to symbolise that he has the tremendous ability to bestow wealth and resources. He has great strength to overcome obstacles of the body, speech and mind, and create suitable conditions for our spiritual practice to flourish.
